I just started watching this video and thought it was a magic show, the stuff coming out of that bag just kept coming! I really began to think it was a trick bag with no bottom 😅 a great video.
Love your vids! for those who don't know, Decathlon sell a really great stainless steel 400ml mug that's great for boiling water in, boiled eggs, cooking baked beans etc, folding/butterfly handle, light weight, and best of all £3.49! cheers.
Hi Wonky Lommiter, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍. I will have to take a look at them. £3.49 sounds like a bargain. Have a great week mate, all the best, Mark 😀.
@@markbailey2981 Just wish they'd do a slightly bigger one at a similarly reasonable price, the 400ml one even has markings stamped into it at 100ml intervals, the handle stays cool even when water is boiling, a cheap 600 or 750ml version would be awesome.
Hi Shane, I hope you are well mate :) Yeah, I made a few of them about 10 years ago and they are still going strong. I bought a small sheet of holed stainless off eBay for a few pound. I cut it to the height and length and rolled it around a water bottle. Easy!! Thanks for watching as always. Take care mate, Mark :)
Mark Bailey a sheet of holed stainless 3mmx5mm (300x100mm) is now £7.99 . Well it was 10 years ago may still be worth it as long as don’t need any cutter to get right size. Very good idea though as it makes it a very lightweight. Many thanks and seasonal greetings to you. Think that looks the right size? Or you can buy the A4 sheet and make 2 if you can cut it like your original for a little more money
Hi Adam, many thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment :) I think you are correct with the sizes. I know the holes are about 3mm. If I remember correctly I think I paid about £5.00 for a sheet about A4 size. Thanks for the update on the price Adam :) Have a great day and all the best for the New Year. Mark :)
Great video, I'm watching a lot of this kind of thing while I'm in lockdown in the desert. I use Zebra pots myself, A good modification on the Zebra pots, it so dremel off the rivet and remove the bail, then replace it with Bowden Cable (Brake cable) It makes the pots a bit easier to pack, and the handle stays upright when cooking in the fire, plus Zebra also make bowls that match the pots, and nest on the recess on the lid (Zebra also make that MSR pot, and you can find it without the MSR branding for significantly less money) I also usually carry a couple of feet of brass chain (Sink plug chain) for hanging pots over a fire, infinite adjustment for cooking, and nice and light.
Hi Graham, I hope you are keeping well :) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I will have to try the mod on the billy pot. I have a Dremel and a couple of lengths of wire (a bit thicker than brake cable) but the same construction. I agree, it would make packing them easier. I sometimes use the canvas bags to store them in and its the handle that makes them awkward to get in. Thanks for the info on the pots. I will have see if I can find them. It is always nice to have another option. Thanks again Graham, have a nice day, all the best, Mark :)
@@markbailey2981 I got me one of the 14cm Zebra Billies from Firebox. (and the bag for it) ..Zebra near a work of art. The pan that comes with it I didn't want to drill holes in for steaming use..such the nice SS bowl it is. ~ I found that one of those cheap SS(10 bucks in US) 5" butterfly wing~esque folding steamers will fit, and opens just enough inside the 14cm Billy for steaming use. As said I got the bag for it from Firebox Stove folks which comes with an extra little bag to stuff things in, that fits below the handle in upright position when big bag closed for stowing. ~~ Other point being I use the little bag to store the nesting steamer, and steamer still fits snugly so to not rattle about inside the Billy. So the mentioned steamer can be wrapped with a dew rag cloth and still fit inside... ..still a bit of room below the nesting pan topside for small bits when closed up in your bag. The legs on them steamers are a tad short, even though they butterfly wing open to 9". One has to be careful not to boil off all that water below that can get away if not wholly monitored. I found a simple 3 inch round SS cookie cutter that nests inside of the steamer when closed/nested in the Billy. Putting the cookie cutter below the steamer gives me another 1/2" space for more water below. lol, and a cookie cutter if I ever try baking biscuits. Here's the steamer I'm talking about. If link doesn't work down unda search folding steamer basket if interested. ID of the 14cm Billy is 14.1 cm. 5.5 inch basket comes in at 13.9 cm. tips me hat ~ www.amazon.com/Vegetable-Stainless-Expandable-Steaming-Water%EF%BC%885-5/dp/B08QZCSX8D/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=5.5+inch+Vegetable+Steamer&qid=1616879407&s=home-garden&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzSjhMRU85Mk81SlMyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjY5OTUxMk9NSDlaWUsyVDVKTSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjM3MDUyUEo3VDQ1R1JCWU9aJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Hi Viviana, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) As well as dreaming costing nothing...…. having dreams is what keeps us going through life :) have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Hi WintaFresh, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I don't tend to carry it all at the same time. But pick and choose the various items for the kind of thing that I'm doing. Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Bereit18, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm glad you found the video useful 👍. I hope you are keeping well during these time. Take care, all the best, Mark 😀🌲🔥.
I have a 64 oz bottle from pathfinder to fit in my 48oz cup , just got a new 48oz French press thats the same pattern as the cup , it also will nest with the 64oz bottle.
Nice kit Mark I'm a fan of the Pathfinder cup as well i bought two with the bottles so i can keep one in my car for long journeys. thanks for the heads up on the 3 trees kit as well its quality. Merry Christmas and all the very best to you and yours for the new year. Colin.
Hi Colin, I hope you are keeping well mate :) Yeah the Pathfinder is good gear for the money. I have been looking at a few of the items. I particularly like the bottles. I'm hoping there is a 32oz one waiting to be opened in the morning lol. May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas too Colin, Have a great time, all the best, Mark :)
You can hang the MSR pots over the fire, just keep a Small stiff wire with Hooks on both ends about length of handle that will hook the handle end above the pot to the latch. I love the MDR pot, bit heavier than some bush pots but its a great latching Container, I do wish they made a better way to use the MSR pot lid as a small Fryer, I keep a grill but it doesnt have the folding legs, you just sit it on rocks or couple logs over fire, but I am liking that yours has legs build on it, and of course you didnt have a link to it haha
Fireboxstove.com, has clips for the zebra pots , ive metal clips on my 4 different sized pots , i mostly use my 16 mm mostly self reliance outfitters, has 8 inch skillets with lids 20usd ,the handles folds under .
Hi Roy, many thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I will check out the firebox stove website, I have been looking for some metal clips for a while. Have a great day mate, all the best, Mark :) :)
Hi Bigearedmouse17, I hope you are keeping well brother. Many thanks for watching..... I thought everyone would be out getting the last minuet shopping done lol. Have a great time when you go away..... somewhere nice I hope :) I hope you have a great Christmas and New year too. All the best, Mark :)
Nice cooking kits you have there, Mark. Thanks for showing them, always nice to see how people vary in ways of doing things. Love your frying pan...need to get one. I wish you a very Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 and as always Atb. Take care, Nikki.
Hi Nikki, I hope you are keeping well :) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment as always. Yeah both frying pans are great. The trangia is easier to deal with, but the Bromwell is a more tradition type that needs looking after but will last a life time. May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas too. Have a good time, all the best, Mark :)
Aye Mark nice kits. I have all kinds of stuff but I am not as organized as you. I have several sheet iron pans, all different sizes. I see you have your hot tea. Merry Christmas. Have a good time in Wales, have some Leek and Potato soup while you are there.
Hi Quinn, I hope you are keeping well :) Oh yes, you've got to have a cup of hot tea. Its the law here lol. I like leek and potato soup. I work in over in Wales and it always seems to be on the menu wherever you go. They make a nice Welsh cake called Bara Brith, It is like a fruit bread. A good thick slice and some butter...…. It would go down nice at one of your high tea's. Thanks again Quinn, you have a great Christmas too brother. All the best, Mark :)
Merry Chrimbo Mark Thanks for the informative video I have an MSR with a wood gas stove in, inside the wood gas stove is fire lighting stuff so storage in storage 👌🏻 Cheers Bud Hope you’re OK 👌🏻
Hi Michael, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. That is a great idea..... I've not thought about storing items in the stove too! I often carry birch bark to get it going, so I know where that will be kept from now on lol. It will save me using the stuff that I need to light my camp fire with. Thanks again Michael and have a great day..... All the best, Mark :)
When’s the last time somebody has went into the woods with nothing without their house on their back it’s ok to go in the woods without your leather tender pouch and kuksa it’s ok if people see you without these items you can just tell them how bushcraft you are
Cracking video Mark. As I say I picked up the MSR and Lixada Gasifier stove idea off you and it works a treat. The 3Trees canvas bags are cracking too if anybody is thinking of purchasing them. I have really enjoyed your videos and would like to thank you for the inspiration you have given me through the year. Merry Christmas and atb for 2019. Cheers Sel
Hi Sel, I hope you are keeping well mate and ready for the big day :) Your very welcome..... I should be the one saying thanks to you, for putting up with me!! May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas Sel. Have a good un mate :) All the best, Mark,
Hi Anthony, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) May I take this opportunity to wish You and your family a lovely Christmas. All the best, Mark :)
Hi Gerry, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Merry Christmas to you and your family too, I hope you have a great time, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Victor, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yeah the mesh rings are easy to make and come in handy. I used a small sheet of cheap stainless steel I bought of eBay. I simply cut it to size and rolled it around a water bottle. They can be stretched or compressed to fit any bottle, then open up again to fit around the stove. I hope you have a great New Year too Victor..… thanks again, Mark :)
Hi Shaun, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I'm glad the video was useful. Good timing!! I hope you have a great Christmas mate, all the very best, Mark :)
Awesome kit brother, all the bases covered for sure! What is it about us guys but we love looking at other fellas pots and pans haha😃. Hope you have a great holiday and we will see you on the next one buddy. 👊 Wade
Hi Wade, I hope you are well brother :) I know, I think we must be gear freaks lol. I would rather look at another mans tin mug, than his holiday photos anytime. May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas Wade. Speak soon, all the best, Mark :) P.S, I have re-seasoned the frying pan with the flax oil and it has turned out a treat. I baked it in the oven for a couple of hours. It was easier than standing out in the rain all day cooking bacon lol. Take care :)
Full play Mark - you certainly have plenty of options there that's taken a good few years to put together. Some great ideas and tips imparted. Thank you. Have a real cool time in Bala - no doubt it will be cool, Literally. All the best for the week and the new year. Mark
Hi Mark, I hope you are keeping well :) Merry Christmas mate!!!! Yeah, no doubt it will be chilly up there, but hopefully it will be a bit quieter than the Summer time. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Mark. Have a great day and rest of the week, all the best, Mark :)
Awesome video, and kit! I've tried to oversimplify my cook kits..but it's one area that suffers when I do! Thanks for the great info! Have a blessed holiday
Hi Brother, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I hope you guys have a great 2019, I look forward to watching more of your awesome videos :) Have a great night, all the best, Mark :)
I bought an MSR Stowaway on Mark's recommendation and it's been fantastic. I much prefer a saucepan shaped pot, where possible, for actual cooking, compared to a cup or billy shape. Just for boiling, even, it boils way faster on a broad flame spread bc of the base to depth ratio. Downside is size, weight and bulk, but I'm into camping not hiking, so it rocks. I even bought the larger size for if I have to cook for friends!
Hi Tom, I hope you are keeping well mate 👍. I'm glad you are happy with the MSR pot. Hopefully once all this lockdown is over I will give mine some good use again. Have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Nixon Bushcraft, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I'm glad the video was useful. Yeah the Billy cans are great. They are very well made and the stainless steel is good quality too. Have a great Christmas, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Andy, I hope you are keeping well mate. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I hope you and the family (including Rusty) have a great Christmas and New Year, all the best, Mark :) P.S, I'm just about to head over and watch your latest video :)
Hi Mark, many thanks for sharing, a great selection of items and combinations, frying pan on the wish list. Enjoy Bala and have a very merry Xmas , best wishes Mike👍
Hey Mark a great breakdown of your cook systems, cheers mate. I’m really interested in the jacob bromwell frying pan. As always when I look for something they are sold out lol. I’ll keep my eye on it 👍. Thanks again mate.
Hi Ant, many thanks for watching mate 👍. I was sent the Jacob Bromwell frying pans from Wade at Woodswalker65. They are a great pan if you can get hold of them. The only place where I have seen them for sale is on eBay. The guy usually sells them in pairs, but the postage was more than the cost of the pans. I think he wanted £40 postage from the US. I'm not sue what they are like, but I noticed on eBay that they sell steel frying pans made by a company called Garcima. They are about £15.00 each. I was looking at them myself, but I didn't really need anymore. They could be worth. If I see any of the Bromwell pans for sale I will let you know mate. Have a great day, all the best, Mark 😀🔥🍳.
Mark Bailey oh ok I’ll look in to the other brand then thanks mate. They have them for sale on Amazon UK but at the moment they are sold out. Thanks mate yeah if you see them give us a shout bud
Hi Mark! Thank you for showing your cook kit. Some very interesting items. I hope you have a lot of fun in Wales. Merry Christmas and a healthy 2019! ATB André
Hi Andre, I hope you are keeping well :) Thank you for the support you have given to the channel over the year, it is very much appreciated :) Yeah as long as the weather is OK I should have a great time in Wales. It is known for non stop rain lol :) May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas Andre :) Have a good one, all the best, Mark.
Hi Sean, I hope you are keeping well mate :) Merry Christmas to you and your family!! Many thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment...… have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Great video again Mark, it's always good to see different pieces and combinations other peoples kit, good job. I always look forward to watching your videos, it's always great to find someone like your good self Mark, especially with your knowledge base and the calmness you manage to put the information across. I find you and your videos very inspirational, thank you, Here's wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and healthy New Year. Thanks again Mark, all the best, Paul.
Hi Paul, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Thank you for the kind words my friend, it is very much appreciated. May I take this opportunity to wish You and Your family a lovely Christmas too Paul, all the very best, Mark :) Have a great day!!!!
Hi Survival Mindset, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) May I take this opportunity to wish you a great 2019. All the best, Mark :)
Great video, Mark! The problem I face when I want to go out (because I have soooo much gear) is what items do I want to take with me! I'm kind of a "gear junkie." I guess it's kind of like guns and knives...you can never have too much, lol! Anyway, thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and yours! Brian.
Hi Brian, good to see you :) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yeah its easy to keep buying gear. I have enough to last a life time, but still keep adding things. There are probably pills for it somewhere lol. But there are worse things to spend your money and time on :) I hope you have a great Christmas and new year Brian. All the best, Mark :)
Hi Flashman V, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) That is my thinking, once things start to need replacing then I will probably move over to some titanium cook wear. Especially for back packing trips and longer hiking sessions. Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
Thanks, the TI is a lot lighter, but it tends to have hot spots compared to the SS. Its a fair trade off for backpacking trips to reduce weight, but there is a slight disadvantage.
that american frying pan is called a cold handled pan i use tesco lard as a seasoner lump of lard melted in middle and tip backwards so goes into handle
Hi Vivian, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have got to nip out shopping later, so I will pick up some lard from the butchers. Thanks for your suggestion, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Can You, I hope you are keeping well :) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too, all the very best, Mark :)
Just a quick thought. You don’t need hand cleaner in your brew kit if you have a spirit stove as well. Just use a splash of bio ethanol to clean your hands....
Hi Tactical63, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I have used the bio ethanol a few times to clean my hands. Mainly for removing paint and solvents, but using it in woods isn't something I have thought about. Thanks for the tip :) I hope you are having a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Antony, many thanks for watching mate. I tend to use a few different sorts of dry bags. The main ones are Aqua Quest which are a decent quality. But for most of my cook kit I tend to use cheaper bags as they get covered in grease and ash. Amazon is a good place I think I got mine from there. Yes mate, Stoke accent. If you are local, I used to use Hanchurch woods for a few overnighters. I'm not sure what it is like now but it used to e a nice place. Cheers mate, all the best, Mark :)
Great video mate. Think I tend to use a similar set up depending on the plans. Don't get the chance to go out as often as I'd like at the moment but reassuring to see the similarities. Still love using my lixada folding twig stove with the option to also use the trangia with it should the need arise. I like to be as compact as possible when I can, it's so easy to over pack. All the best and have a great Christmas and new year.
Hi Dimitri, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Merry Christmas my friend :) Your right about over packing. It is so easy to carry way more than you need. Thinking that you may need something and end up not using it. Carrying all the extra weight can take the fun out of a good walk in lol. I like the lixada gear. They make some good kit and it's always well priced. Thanks again Dimitri and have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Like youre kit and a excellent video i am going to look at all your video`s this is the first one i have looked at i am ashame to say. But i subscribe inmediatly best wishes from the Netherlands
Hi Robert, many thanks for watching and for the sub, it is very much appreciated :) May I take this opportunity to wish you a great 2019, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Mark, great video. I’m looking to not waste money or space in my pack on a cooking set up. There are so many mfgs of kit and combinations of how things slot inside others. Looking for a comparison between pathfinder, stanley, life venture, etc etc or a suggestion of one brand does it all. I’m thinking pathfinder but, titanium has its obvious appeal.
Hi Alan, I was about to say, Pathfinder seems to have a good selection which seem to nest together. I only have the mug and lid, but have looked at the rest of the gear and it all looks well made. I tend to have a mish mash of things. If something fits into something else, it is usually down to luck lol. Zebra billy pots are a good pot to use and carry. Have you looked at MSR? they make some titanium cooking items, mugs, plates, etc. I like the Stowaway pot that they make. The handle folds over the lid and locks it place, so you can store other items without them falling out.
I like all the gear you have showed in this video. I’m Interested to know your thoughts of the military style canteen water bottles and cups nesting set which would save a little space.
@@AlanAlanAlanDave I have tried various military canteen water bottles over the years and they are great. I still have one here that I use from time to time. Like you say, it all nests together for storage and the cost of them are usually cheap. The BCB Crusader cups are supposed to be very good. I tend to stick with the taller skinnier bottles nowadays as it suits the types of pockets on the rucksacks. But I certainly wouldn't have a problem using military style bottles and cups :)
I always enjoy watching the cooking equipment videos mate. I often take the 775 'll seagull and the lixada wood gas stove. Did you get round to checking out that bushcraft boutique place I told you about. Have a good Christmas and New year mark. All the best chris
Hi Chris, I hope you are well mate :) Yeah I have spent quite some time looking at their gear. It all looks very nice and a decent prices too. I like the possibles pouches that they make and a few of the pot bags. I will get some things ordered in the new year. I'm looking at a new pack at the moment. Something to help the load on my aging back lol. Thanks for watching the videos over the past year Chris, it is very much appreciated, and I also hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year too. All the best, Mark :)
Cheers buddy. You must have more packs than soft Mick mate haha. How's the frost river pack holding up. I fancy one but their on the pricy side. I swap between my rush 72 and my karrimor st sabre 45
Hi Chris, I hope you had a nice time over Christmas mate :) Yeah the frost river pack is doing great thanks mate. I was out with it yesterday, blowing away a few mince pies lol. Like you say they can be pricey, but hopefully I won't have to buy another. I also use the Rush 72 a lot. It is my go to pack for most days out and is defiantly one of the best packs I've ever owned. Sometimes I'm amazed that the zips don't burst off it, but it keeps on going. I am looking for a larger pack for longer trips. I was looking at a Karrimor Sabre 75, but I think it will be too big. I'm not the tallest of people. So I am thinking of a Savotta Jaakari 40-60ltr. I haven't seen them before, but the size will allow me to use it as a large day pack and then it can be extended for the times I need more room. Roll on pay day lol :) Have a great day mate, and all the best for the New Year, Mark :)
You brought a chopping board along....and so many bushcrafters do.... Video making (and multi-day trips) aside, cos I get that it's cool to show the whole process....is there any benefit to preparing the food on site ? Vs prepping at home and carrying the prepped food in bags ? I'm not a newbie...and not a chef either...but I'm just wondering what's the point of a chopping board ? Enjoyed the vid.... All the best...👍
Hi mate, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I would say it is a personal thing. Some like to prepare and cook from scratch whilst out. A lot of the time if I am hiking as well I will eat MRE's, but I like to spend a nice afternoon preparing a meal if I am staying somewhere for a bit. I would say it is easier to prepare your food at home and carry it in that way. It would save on time, plus keep things clean especially if it is muddy out. Many thanks for watching, all the best, Mark :)
Great run down Mark, love the bellows, I could do with some of them lol. Ideal for helping when burning slightly damp wood ( which it is most of the time). I love the zebra pots, great kit. An excellent selection of gear and well thought our and explained as usual, a thoroughly comprehensive guide to quality cooking gear 🖒. I tell ya what those Buzzards were busy above ya. Love it mate, have a fantastic Christmas and New Year. I've got some footage from a trip I've just got back from. Might put it together later this morning 🖒🔥
Hi Rick, I hope you are keeping well and had a nice day yesterday mate :) Yeah the pocket bellows are well worth it. I think I paid £3 for them. They don't half blast the air out. Its always nice to hear the buzzards. There are a few pairs down in these woods. I think they hang around expecting a few leftovers lol. Yeah it would be good to see your latest trip mate. It's always nice spending a bit of time with you. Typical Boxing day blues here lol. Christmas is done and people are bored. I might put my boots on and have a few hours down the woods myself!! Have a great day mate and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. All the best, Mark :)
@@markbailey2981 Aye man, get out int forest. Men's mental health n all that 🖒. Sorts us out doesn't it. I'm in the fields n forest now with Billy. Might make a film when I get back if people are up and about and I've got access to the PC lol . Have a top day fella 🖒
Yeah, that's sounds like a plan :) I'm just finishing sewing a pouch together and I will get out for a few hours. Might take some grub and have lunch out. I will look forward to the video if you manage to get hold of the PC mate. Have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS Dave :) I hope you are keeping well mate. Wow that's brilliant thanks!!! It doesn't matter that it's not waxed, I can do that after I've made something. How one thing can lead onto another...… now I will be spending the day trawling eBay looking for a sewing machine lol. Thanks again Dave, it is very much appreciated. If you want to email me at markbay@hotmail.com sometime, I will give you my address and sort out the postage with you. Thanks again Dave and have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Thanks Dave, I have just replied to it :) Thanks again for getting the canvas, it is very much appreciated mate. I hope you are having a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Steve, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I made the fire ring from a small sheet of perforated stainless steel that I bought off eBay. I then cut it to the height that I wanted and rolled it around a water bottle to form the shape. Easy to do :) Have a great day mate, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Terry, I hope you are keeping well mate. The bag is a 5:11 Rush 72 pack. It has been a great pack. I will leave you a link to them. Take care, all the best, Mark. www.amazon.co.uk/5-11-5-58602-026-1SZ-P-Tactical-RUSH72-Backpack/dp/B00EKJ0CVO
Hi David, I hope you are keeping well mate :) I thought I forgot something lol. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too David, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Darryl, thank you for the suggestion :) Yeah, sure I can do a video like that if your interested. I have got a couple in the pipeline already, but I will try and do one over the next month. Thanks Darryl. all the best, Mark :)
Mark Bailey great! I look forward to it. Most reviews are of either single items or full kit but not of ranges of kit, except for some stoves. Sooner the better for me as i’m feeling a tad swamped by all the choice. So say for example a decent kit for a few hundred quid that will do the job but only for occasional use. A mid range for over twice that value for people who are into it but can’t overspend and a flat out ‘pro’ kit which might have less gear but will be a real insight into how kit evolves... i’m just thinking out loud, so please don’t take this as me telling you.. thanks and best wishes, Darryl.
Thanks, Mark. Once again, a really help full video. May I ask you a couple of questions? 1. Where do you get the foil ring for the triangia burner? 2. Does theTomshoo wood burning stove fit nicely into one of the zebra Billy pots (12 cm or 14cm)? 3. Is there a stainless steel water container that you could boil water in that also fits inside either the pathfinder or the titanium cup? Thanks for your patience Rgds Imran
Hi Imran, I hope you are keeping well brother :) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The ring for the trangia burner I made. It is very simple to do. I bought a small sheet of pre- drilled stainless steel and cut it to the height that I wanted them and then simply rolled it around a water bottle to get the required shape. I have had it for about 10 years, so they last a long time once you have made them. No, unfortunately the Tomshoo stove doesn't fit in the either the 12 or 14cm billy can. I was hoping that it would, but it is slightly too big for the 14cm. I don't know if it would fit in a 16cm pot as I don't have one to try. For the last question I'm struggling to think of any small steel water bottles that would fit in the mugs. It would be easier to find a plastic container that would fit in the pathfinder mug, and then boil the water in the mug. But if you are looking for stainless steel, then It might be worth having a look at the Klean Kanteen website. They make a large selection of stainless bottles and containers and could have something on there. I will leave a link to their website for you :) www.kleankanteen.co.uk/ I hope this helps Imran, have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Thanks, Mark, for spending such effort in your patient reply. I didn't get a 'ping' to say you'd replied so sorry for the delay in my thanks. I should have read the responses below as you'd already explained the triangia stove. Apologies. I've moved to wanting a stainless steel water bottle / canteen and nesting stainless steel cup so I have more options to boil water. Titanium is a bit expensive (and I'm trying to avoid aluminium). The pathfinder system looks great but is also pricey. ..but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. It's a bit of a shame the BCB crusader canteen just comes in plastic although they do do a steel cup. I have checked the Klean kanteen website as suggested and although the products look good value, the nesting cups seem limited. The nalgene stainless steel bottle with gsi nesting cup seems a good option but the cup sadly doesn't come with a lid. So the search continues. I really appreciate your approach to Bushcraft and the manner of your teaching. Thank you for all your efforts. Peace.
Your very welcome :)……… No worry about the late reply brother. I often miss comments and questions. I think its how You Tube works. Sometimes you will get notified, other times you don't. Yeah it can be awkward when trying to marry cups and bottles together. Like you say the BCB set is a great kit, the people I know who use it love it. They just boil the water in the metal cup or add water purification tablets into the bottle. The path finder set is also a great set. I know that they make one similar to the crusader style with a steel bottle, cup and nesting stove which is about £59.00 or they make the standard shaped cup and wide mouth bottle for around £40.00. The cup comes also comes with a steel lid. Your right, it can be expensive, but at least if you know what is available and the cost, it then gives you a rough figure to work out if you decide to buy a separate bottle and cup. Here are a couple of links to the ones I mentioned: (Standard shape) www.woodland-ways.co.uk/buy-online-pathfinder-gen3-stainless-steel-widemouth-bottle-and-nesting-cup-1395.html (Crusader Style) www.woodland-ways.co.uk/buy-online-pathfinder-stainless-steel-canteen-cooking-set-1394.html As for the titanium cook sets, I notice Amazon sell a lot of titanium mugs and bottle which are not too expensive. Here is a link to some of the cheaper titanium mugs with lids: www.amazon.co.uk/Lixada-Titanium-Portable-Camping-Foldable/dp/B0788KYBR4/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1546187322&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=titanium+cup&psc=1 I hope this helps. But if you need more info, please let me know. Thanks again brother, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Mark, Thanks for the video; very interesting as always! Just a quick question about the Trangia fry pan: does it have a proper layered/encapsulated base to help spread the heat or is it a simple single layer alloy construction?Hoping you and yours are having a good Christmas,Regards,Peter
Hi Peter, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I hope you are having a great Christmas!! The trangia pan is a simple single layer construction. It looks like it has been made from a single piece of aluminium and is the same thickness all the way through. I hope this helps :) Yeah we have had a nice quite one here. Ate too much like usual, so paying the price now lol. Thanks again Peter, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Mark, great vid as usual. I'm looking for one of those mesh fire rings you use, but can't find one anywhere. Did you make it yourself? Cheers mate....
Hi Jerry, I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Yeah the mesh ring was something that I made. They are very simple to do. I bought the stainless mesh off ebay for a few pound. I then I cut it to size and rolled it around a water bottle. Job done :) They last for years and years. Here is a link to the type of mesh I used. Thanks again Jerry, all the best, Mark. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3mm-Stainless-Steel-3mm-Hole-x-5mm-Pitch-x-1mm-Thick-Perforated-Mesh-Sheet/152128927226?hash=item236b9735fa:m:m6LDO8E960tPWh78DCVNFkg:rk:7:pf:0&var=451326569271
Hi Freeman Grace, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video :) I made the fire ring. They are easy to make. I bought a sheet of perforated stainless steel off eBay, cut it to size and rolled it around a metal water bottle. It does take a while to get the rounded shape, but once it has been used and heated it up you can form it to the correct diameter you are looking for. I may do a video on how to make one. I get a few comments from people asking where to buy them from. Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
@@markbailey2981 Thank you Mark for the detailed response. Many who use the spirit stove would love that little ring. It's compact and lightweight. Yes, a training video on how to make one would benefit many. I do believe that your fire ring makes the store-bought or homemade spirit stoves the smallest system on Earth. Congratulations you're a genius. I'd purchase one from you if you sold a ring that fit both the spirit stove and a small can of Sterno fuel. Thanks again Mark. Happy trails.
Hi Hatoonisar K, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yes the Tomshoo stove will fit in the 14cm billy pot and it will also fit in the 1.1ltr MSR stowaway pot too. I hope this helps :) All the best, Mark.
Hi Bruce, a couple of them I bought from ebay or if you go onto Ray Mears website he sells different sizes on there. Rays are nicer quality but at the end of the day they just get dirty anyway. Have a great day mate :)
Hi Tactical63, I have just done a video on how I like to make mine. But I have also been told that they sell them on the Pathfinder store website :) All the best, Mark :)
@@markbailey2981 Hi fella I thought so it's ever so slight but it's the odd words I can tell. What with being born and bred a Stokie myself. I'm keeping good cheers pal hope you're doing well? I will subscribe mate I'm just new to the wild camping scene yet to go but I'm just getting someday Somewhat of a kit together first. I might hit you up again if that's OK on some tips or advice locations etc. All the best pal 👍🏼 👍🏼 Matt,
Hi G P, I love alcohol stoves. I like their simplicity, ease of use, plus they are cheap to burn. I opted to go with a Trangia burner as I like how they have a screw cap and a simmer ring. If I fill the burner to it capacity I can boil quite a lot of water. The main thing is to keep them out of the wind if possible, then boiling times are reduced. Plus they are great for cooking. One fill of the stove will usually last for me to boil my pathfinder mug for a drink plus boil water to cook an MRE. I usually carry a small bottle that holds around 150ml, so I can top the stove up (once cool) or fill it up if it is burnt out. Once I have finished with the stove, I simply screw the cap on and save what fuel is left in to stove. They are a great addition to the kit. Have a great week mate, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Alan, funny you should mention it. I have order some steel to make one on video. A few people have asked about it. It is a simple process. I ordered the perforated steel from eBay, its 1mm thick with 3mm holes. But there are loads of different sizes available. Then you cut them to size you want and then roll them around a metal water bottle. Once they have been used a couple of times, they tend to loose their sharp edges and become a bit more pliable if you need to make any adjustments in the diameter. Cheers Alan, all the best, Mark :)
Hi Donald, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I find most supermarkets sell nettle tea nowadays. If I'm not harvesting my own, I like the nettle and peppermint that you can buy. Twinings tea make a few different types if they are available to you. Thanks again and have a great Christmas, all the best, Mark :)
Your welcome Donald :) I usually buy mine from ASDA which is a subsidiary of Walmart here in the UK, so hopefully you should be able to buy them from your work :) Thanks again Donald, all the best, Mark.
Hi Bill, many thanks for watching. If you let me know which bags you would like the links to, please let me know and I will leave them for you. Thanks, Mark :)
Wait! What? “On my water bottle, I like to use one of these little fire rings..” Well, you let that “little,” gem almost slip by! Where can one buy one of these elusive, “little fire rings?” Because yours looks suspiciously homemade!
I've been using the GSI Pinnacle Soloist for four years now. Review here: ruclips.net/video/VueoAm-4OzI/видео.html . I find it is a good balance between light, versatile, small packing footprint and super functional.
I just started watching this video and thought it was a magic show, the stuff coming out of that bag just kept coming! I really began to think it was a trick bag with no bottom 😅 a great video.
It comes down to this, what you plan to eat is what you take along with you....
Great review of many kit options. Thanks for sharing.
Hi mrwes100, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) It is very much appreciated. Have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Very comprehensive mark, I like the idea of the mesh fire stand around the bottle.
Mark Bailey great idea mark. I love original ideas. Atb to you as well.
Mark :)
Mark Bailey might be 5mm x8mm?
5.5 inch basket comes in at 13.9 cm.
tips me hat ~

Merry Chrimbo Mark

Hi Michael, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. That is a great idea..... I've not thought about storing items in the stove too! Thank you Mark, I took some good ideas from it. I have to say loved the mesh around the bottle. Happy New Year from Tx..

Hi Lucius, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) All the best, Mark.

I guess it's kind of like guns and knives...you can never have too much, lol!
That's a big kit, looks like you have everything covered. I moved away from SS pots about 3 years ago, replaced them with TI, big weight savings
Best wishes to you and yours .✌👍

Just a quick thought. You don’t need hand cleaner in your brew kit if you have a spirit stove as well. Just use a splash of bio ethanol to clean your hands....
Hi Tactical63, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) I have used the bio ethanol a few times to clean my hands. Mainly for removing paint and solvents, but using it in woods isn't something I have thought about. Thanks for the tip :) I hope you are having a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
Merry Christmas!
Hi Gringo, Merry Christmas to you too my friend, and I hope you have a great New Year :) All the best, Mark :)
Great video Mark. Where are the dry bags from?. Is that a stoke accent. Looking for somewhere local to wild camp
Nice one Mark!
Thank you Isaac :) May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a lovely Christmas. All the best, Mark :)
Mark Bailey thank you!
Sll the best to you too!

Nice
@@markbailey2981 Thanks for the reply ! ... That makes sense... Just been trying to lighten my load.. cheers for the info 👍

Yeah, that's sounds like a plan :) I'm just finishing sewing a pouch together and I will get out for a few hours. Might take some grub and have lunch out. I will look forward to the video if you manage to get hold of the PC mate. Have a great day, all the best, Mark :)
Merry Christmas Mark I've some canvas for you from another company not the waxed stuff but good quality and camo
MERRY CHRISTMAS Dave :) I hope you are keeping well mate. Wow that's brilliant thanks!!! It doesn't matter that it's not waxed, I can do that after I've made something. Merry Christmas Brother
Thank you Lawrence...…. and a Merry Christmas to you and your family too :) Have a good one Brother, all the best, Mark :)
Another great video Mark, thanks. Where did you get the fire ring from? Cheers Steve
Great job what bag is that your using to carry the items in

Hi David, I hope you are keeping well mate :) I thought I forgot something lol. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too David, all the best, Mark :)
I don’t mean to make work for you but would you consider making a video showing low/mid/high price versions of kit? Just an idea. Thanks, Darryl
That's a fine Stoke accent there my mate. A Neckender?
great video can you make a 2022 update video please ?
Thanks, Mark.
Once again, a really help full video.
May I ask you a couple of questions?
1. Where do you get the foil ring for the triangia burner?
2. Does theTomshoo wood burning stove fit nicely into one of the zebra Billy pots (12 cm or 14cm)?
3. Is there a stainless steel water container that you could boil water in that also fits inside either the pathfinder or the titanium cup?
Thanks for your patience
Rgds
Imran
You're a gentleman, Mark.
Thank you.
Looking forward to your next video.
Keep up your great work 😊😊
Hi Mark, Thanks for the video; very interesting as always!
Great video and thank you. Where can one get that fire ring or was it hand fashioned?

Matt,
What is your view on alcohol stoves? How long does small bit of fuel last? Good for boiling water (how long) or or can cook well with it?
@@markbailey2981 Thanks for the detailed response.
Any chance of details for the fire ring?
Hi Alan, funny you should mention it. I have order some steel to make one on video. A few people have asked about it. It is a simple process. I ordered the perforated steel from eBay, its 1mm thick with 3mm holes. But there are loads of different sizes available. Then you cut them to size you want and then roll them around a metal water bottle. Once they have been used a couple of times, they tend to loose their sharp edges and become a bit more pliable if you need to make any adjustments in the diameter. Cheers Alan, all the best, Mark :)
Thanks look forward to seeing the vid
