- I'm thinking about getting a new hoist with alignment machine for my shop. As I'm just quickly running some numbers, thought this would make a good video for the consumer (and new shop owners) who wants to understand what kind of capital investment is involved with getting an alignment set-up. I am not from the USA, but in our country, the government does the wheel alignment for people who are below the poverty line. If you pay taxes and show that you are below the poverty line then you can take your vehicle to a government-owned repair shop and do the alignment free of charge. But if you are rich the price you pay is on a scaling chart and matches with your monthly income. The more you earn the more you pay. The less you earn the less you pay.

I paid $100 for a 2 wheel alignment at a Active Green Ross in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I got quotes for $100-$125 from other independent tire shops for 2 wheel alignment and this was just for toe adjustment on a Hyundai Sonata / Hyundai Elantra. I was told that if it was a more complicated suspension setup the prices would be more.
I just got a 4 wheel alignment for my Toyota Tundra. Paid 120 + 20 for switching the wheels from the back to the front. I thought it was reasonable. My dad flipped and wouldn't accept more than a 50 dollar alignment... I believe that in this situation you pay for what you get...
I got my 2 alignment lifts used and a new alignment machine and 1 used. Both work perfect just the new one is a lot faster. I charge my customers $80 for front wheel Alignment snd $95 for 4 wheel Alignment. Now if it’s European car the prices are a little different. But 95% of the time customers are happy with prices.
I would recommend trying first to go with used. If you buy new you will have to keep that machine moving with cars all day , all week. The payback actually comes from the front end repairs you will sell. Most cars coming in for alignment have problems with suspension and tires. Everyone out there seems to think that if a vehicle shakes, pulls or wears tires they must need a alignment. Well most likely they have bad tires, out of balance tires , worn or bent suspension components. Try to stick with imaging systems that you just do rollback compensation and if you can find it or upgrade it try touchless wheel clamps. Rollback compensation and touchless well clamps save a huge amount of setup time. The low cost of alignment you see with independent shops is because they are banking on the fact the car has problems requiring work, at the dealers they charge a lot because they will deal with mostly new cars that are not going to have further sales other then the alignment. Personally the low cost at inde shops I do not agree with as it makes the alignment equipment and tech nothing but a under appreciated whore. Unfortunately the public has no concept as to the cost of the equipment we buy to fix there cars, plus they think once it is paid for it is all free profit after that. They do not understand that these machines need software updates ,repairs and once it is all paid for half the time it is time to buy new.

$129 at my Hyundai dealer which has a Hunter WinAlign.
Unfortunately, i don't think that they did a great job now that i know more about alignment specs. A lot of it comes down to the tech.
Just as a fun experiment i decided to buy a lot of the tools necessary to do it myself. Wheel clamps, lasers to square everything, turn plates, precision angle gauges for setting camber, etc. etc. i am at about $1.1K now. But i think i've got a system that will let me take care of it and do it properly.

In Ventura CA I pay $160 for a custom alignment on my C5 Corvette track car.
It's hard to find anyone in the area who does this, and I can't find anyone for bumpsteer configuration.
I'm tempted to start a performance chassis shop in the area since you have to pretty much drive to LA for service.
What shop do you go to for custom alignment?

In most cases they don't need an alignment. If it needs one you must ask yourself what changed or moved. If something moved it's either bent broken or worn out. Basically you have a bigger problem.
I'm poor af an 120 for an alignment seems very reasonable I need one an am gunna find out soon an idea of the price cause I'm not sure yet but I'm from Midwest usa.
In UK All systems cost you around £15,000 and to do the alignment for a car it cost you around £60

You’ll need a 14k alignment lift. Those 12k lifts are a little too small for the f350 dually crew cabs.
I have a John bean v3300 which ran me 40,000 and haven’t had any problem with any car/ truck even with those big rim and tire packages

90-130 in the Northwest USA. In all honesty that’s cheap. You got a tech, a front desk person, and a lot of the time you can’t complete the job because of worn parts. Maybe you get an extra job out of those worn parts, but sometimes the customer pulls their order because they don’t want to pay for it. In that case it cost you all that overhead with zero return.
Why should it matter what the business pays for the equipment. He doesn't charge us any less once the device is paid for. 1000 jobs at 99 or more it's paid for.

Virginia USA my local franchise has $130 per alignment they also have a “lifetime alignments for like $200” I dont think is crazy expensive. My Tesla dealership charges $250 😂 which no way in hell I will pay.

Firestone offer lifetime alignment for like $250 as long as the car is in your name. I personally know someone who has it for years and it costed him $80 at the time he signed up 😂 it’s still valid

That shop will pay off that alignment machine in 6 months your not using all the money from alignment cost to pay for the machine your using the profit from the business to pay all the shops bills especially when you over charge customers on the labor 😮😮😮
lol, coming from someone that has no clue what a shop has to pay out in expenses each month. Most shops, especially small business shops have to take out a loan to pay for large equipment purchases such as this. It will take typically 3 to 5 years to pay off the the loan, not 6 months. In my case it will take me 10 to 15 years of doing alignments to break even on the overall purchase but will give me greater control of the product going out the door; also keeps me from having to drive the car to another facility to do a half ass alignment.
