Good demonstration Laurence, I found a good sized bundle of velcro in the craft store I'm going to use for rebundling the wire harness the next time I rework a wire harness. It won't be sticky and it's easy to undo and redo and cheap enough to leave on there. Thanks again Laurence 👍
Been watching you a while, I began swapping my 95 stepside a few months ago, you've been a great help. What is the p/n for the 3-pin temp sensor your using? the one I purchased doesn't fit without an adapter and I don't really want to do that. Thanks!
The 3 wire coolant temp sensor wiring connector I used can be found on ebay..www.ebay.com/itm/123934748712 , the 3 wire sensor is ACDelco GM Original Equipment 12551708 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (on amazon at www.amazon.com/ACDelco-12551708-Original-Equipment-Temperature/dp/B005OVAUN2/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3SX4FWZJTW1A4&keywords=12551708&qid=1659846878&sprefix=12551708%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-2 )
Hi LAURENCE , i am working on a swap right now with a 89 chevy 1500 with the same dash gauges you have in your video . i put in a 2006 vortec but it has a 2 wire temp sensor . i bought a standalone harness and computer from psi and got it running no problem . im having coolant gauge issues . i still have (half) of my factory 89 wiring harness under hood . cut away what i could tell was no longer needed. Now im trying to figure out how to get the single GREEN 1 wire coolant temp sensor wire to work properly with my gauge . i have already bought the adapter to go on pass, side head with a single wire sender . but with no luck everytime i hook up the green wire to the sensor i get a pegged out guage . Any word of advice or help would be greatly appreciaated . thanks
Did it read 260 upon startup? Or did temp increase over a few minutes to 260? What specific temp sensor are you using? Was it working correctly prior to swap? Did you for sure wire per pinout and not color of wire? Lots of possibilities here…
In my case I bought a stand alone harness didn’t come with this plugs. When I started my swap I left the stock connector that plug with previous engine can I just use those ?
@@Sickwiddit2820 you need to look up a wiring schematic for that sensor that you’re going to use. And then match the plug to the wire and not pay attention to the color of wires that are on your actual plug but the actual wires coming off of your harness. This is kind of hard to do via texting. I’m not able to see exactly what you’re dealing with. When you’re working with an LS harness, OBS, harness, and an aftermarket harness, it can get very confusing. Are the easiest way would be to use the correct two wires for the LS harness from the PCM to the coolant sensor, and then find your third wire in your OPS hardest that’s for the gauge to connect to the third wire on your sensor.
Nice video OG you really explain it step by step thanks

Good idea. I decided to tape up way to early. Next time, I will maybe zip tie or velcro until I get everything just right.

I found it works best to use a 3 wire coolant sensor from a late 90’s Camaro v8. 2 wires go to the ls pcm and the 3rd goes to the gauge.
You can add a second sensor on the passenger side head and run your gauge from that.
Awesome stuff 🇨🇱
I did the same thing on my 94, but my guage just read 260 all the time, any pointers?

If you were able to reuse your stock sensor and wiring, I would say yes, as long as the correct 2wires interface with the ls pcm.
@@laurencevillegarage but also have complete harness of the ls engine can I just cut (obs plug) and solder the plug of the ls ?
@@Sickwiddit2820 if you mean use the ls plug soldered to the OBS wiring…yes for oil pressure but no on coolant sensor.
@@laurencevillegarage do know what wire is what. The obs plug has a grey, orange, and a light brown wire while the ls plug has red, grey, and black wire
