I just want to say his pronunciation of "undulation" is pretty entertaining! Australians are freaking awesome! He's a pretty funny guy to watch and his Butterfly is very beautiful. Dang I can't wait to learn this. I need to learn how to do that hip dive
Masterpiece I must say, I admire how I followed your tips without even watching your video. This just proves my butterfly training method does work ;)... thanks for the video.
Thanks for doing fly. Fly swum when tired 💤 ( and slow) is a killer it just fails. Also Thankyou for the reminder of chest down, hips up/ undulation ( kids don’t get that word ) and quick tempo. Certainly a pleasure to watch. What’s next ?
Only recently did I discover something that turned butter-struggle into butter-ease. What worked for me was counting my strokes and trying to reduce my spl.
thank you for the video. You're the first instructor I've seen address the tempo and how it connects and affects other technical requirements of this stroke. For the longest time I've struggled to keep my hips up and how fast or slow to tempo should be. I've seen The Shaw way to fly, where they go really slowly and gracefully with big undulations. and then there's the racing butterfly where the emphasis is on speed. Would you say that butterfly is easier done at faster pace than slower one? Again, thank you!!
Thanks for the video. I may just be getting too old and inflexible to swim that great, as I can see that during the catch phase of your stroke you exhibit much more shoulder flexibility than I have. It's hard for me to describe, but at the front end of my fly, my arms are extended overhead, but almost in line with my body and looking quite flat, rather than the exaggerated position you get into (most evident around 3:10). I'll keep practising and keep the three components in mind.
Brilliant technique and explanation. I am swimming butterfly and I am still unsure if my small recovery click is getting my hip high enough out of the water?! Frustrating as I do the kick but I feel like my hip isn’t rising like in your video
Yes! Personally, doing p90x over a 6 month period helped me a lot (upper body and core strength is essential here). I started as a turtle. Definitely developed a more powerful catch and faster fly swimming
your thoughts about the underwater catch? i've heard different opinions from coaches. seen a whole video about deep vs shallow catch, saying the shallow catch is more efficient than the deep one. also, should hands really come very close to each other during the "S" underwater phase? personally i find it just more tiring and it doesn't help my speed. a "waist" distance from each other works better for me...
Took me 6 months at least to master it as a professional. It requires practicing over practicing. Even after 10 years there are things to do better i suppose.
Good shape man. Must be doing gym a lot. Good set of priorities as well. I'd also add rhythm and timing as the crucial component here. Most newbies have no idea when do their legs have to kick relatively to the arm cycle. P. S. On 3:07 the shoulders and arms are dropped right after the hands entry (no high catch). This illustrates that the 5th component must be good flexibility which is hard to maintain with age.
Hey Phlex. Been away for a solid 2 months haha, cuz studies. Thanks for another vid on butterfly. Been trying for the better part of a year now and not getting anywhere so far. I was always wondering about undulation, cuz I've always approached the undulation part the way I do with underwaters, fast kicking with hyperstreamlining. Based on what I saw in this video, that approach seems to be wrong now, isn't it? Thank you so much for this particular pointer on keeping the hips as high out of the water as possible. Will try it when I get to the pool soon. P.S. Nice swim trunks Luke x)
Hey!! Hope all has been well! We missed you, but glad you are back. The undulation in butterfly is definitely a different dynamic than the normal stroke. You can refer back to one of Lukes past videos where he breaks down three steps to better feel for your butterfly to learn that undulation a bit better.
Please make a video on swim techniques that can reduce your belly . And secondly can somebody tell me where I can find the music that plays in the beginning..!
I just made my high school swim team about a month ago. This is my first time swimming competitively and I have to say, I love it. It seems butterfly is my stroke though, I have the second fastest time on the team for 100 fly already. I have to say though, this is definitely going to help me improve on my stroke and hopefully drop more time! Wish me luck at invitationals tomorrow :')
When i first tried butterfly stroke i could do it easily but not so good, but as time goes by i cant seem to do it as i did before 😆 Instead of getting better i get worse everytime 😆
I disagree "Butterfly is the most complex stroke out there". In fact, as a coach, its the easiest to teach. Freestyle much more complicated with "22 points to master and coordinate". Breastroke tough for even "breastrokers" to perfect. Backstroke is disconconcerting to most swimmers. Fly is natural and easiest
Nico Montinola as a professional swimmer its the hardest to master. I see how people struggle in first few months unlike the rest of strokes. It needs mass practice. I can say thay if you do not have special ability it takes a year to become a natural butterfly swimmer. Freestyle? No it takes max 3 months to swim coordinated
Excellent instruction, fantastic photography, and the worst background music ever. That's a tradition for all swimming videos: use the most annoying background music.
As one who is trying to learn this stroke, this explanation is the best I have seen!
Have you mastered it sir? Give us update 😂

Fantastic butterfly swimming. Thanks for showing~~
One of the most beautiful butterfly motions I've ever seen!
Masterpiece I must say, I admire how I followed your tips without even watching your video. This just proves my butterfly training method does work ;)... thanks for the video.
Love all your videos! I wanna master my butterfly with this beautifully done undulation!
Where is this guy from? He has a European accent that sounds like he picked up English around age 8-10, but still has some of it.
tenningale ... He sounds Canadian to me, probably from Québec
Perfectamente ejemplificada tu explicación. Gracias 💦
I'll get It. Thanks for the details. From Brazil.
Only recently did I discover something that turned butter-struggle into butter-ease. What worked for me was counting my strokes and trying to reduce my spl.
I can't say this didn't change my Fly because this vid really helped
Excellent video. Your fly is really very well done and very beautifull to see. More videos, please.
Really good visual on the undulation necessary - excited to get in the pool to give our a go. Great vid.
Thanks for the support! Let us know how it goes!
This may sound weird but I find butterfly easier than freestyle
Not weird at all, we find it our favorite stroke (when we are in shape! ha!)
Omg me 2

This is so awesome! Found my butterfly tribe

It would be nice if you added entry, turn and finish to go along with that Butterfly song (I listen to it while swimming to set the pace).
Covering all that iv been struggling with! Thank you!
Its 2021 , and this video helped me a lot thx

Dude your butterfly is awesome
Good one, instructions just the way I understand, clear concise complete, you got yourself a sub👍👍👍
Brilliant technique and explanation. I am swimming butterfly and I am still unsure if my small recovery click is getting my hip high enough out of the water?! Frustrating as I do the kick but I feel like my hip isn’t rising like in your video
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SPEEDO!
Thanks for the tips👍
beautiful technique
Any tips for building endurance in fly?
Matt F just keep swimming, if u get tired do one arm butterfly but don't stop
when I get so tired I cant do fly correctly I do one arm
Yes! Personally, doing p90x over a 6 month period helped me a lot (upper body and core strength is essential here). I started as a turtle. Definitely developed a more powerful catch and faster fly swimming
Do you breath on every other stroke❓ for 25m I don't breath on first two strokes then breath everyone there after
Hey Shaner! It depends on the race but we usually rotate between every other stroke and breathing every 3.
Damn what a beautiful butterfly 🦋🤭🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️I’m melting 😆😆😆😆😆

That’s a good example

Your speedos are pretty cool in that video. Where did you get them?
Hey Wright! We wear MP brand speedo briefs.
What is the song that plays when 'stroke clinic' comes on the screen?
Where can I get that brisket suit
Does anyone know if there is a jammer version of that suit
Hey,thanks a lot
I wish my butterfly looked like that
Nice, how much do you do on a 100 fly?
Him “Your undulation!”
Me “thanks Elvis!”
Would you make a video about your gym workouts?
We will definitely put it into future plans!
You look just like Michael Phelps doing Butterfly
beautiful head position!
Good shape man. Must be doing gym a lot.

I feel like I didn't learn anything from this video!

Please make a video on swim techniques that can reduce your belly .
And secondly can somebody tell me where I can find the music that plays in the beginning..!
i breath a bit high but trying to fix it.
When I take my time on Butterfly I go faster. But I can't swim this stroke fast.
It's so hard to get the breathing
Pls make a video about diving .
Dives or diving the sport?
Phlex Swim : I have a fear of diving into the pool .if you could explain that in stages so that would be easy for us to practise too.
@@PhlexSwim
He probably means diving to start off the length
the song at 2:18 im laughing so hard
agonswim florida gators suit should be weared by Mr. Torres
I cannot do butterflie kick :x
Does your head need to come up every stroke or can it stay in the water?
I wpuld suggest every 2 or 3 strokes for first 25 and then for the rest every 1 or 2.
wow am too bad at swimming that I waste too much energy passing 5m 😕 any tips

More on underwater next?

Looks good buy that guy should never do any tutorial because it is difficult to imagine worse explanation.
Butterfly is easy but the difficult part is the breathing
you're handsome😂💪
Immortal Firefly06 and you are beautiful
Another great video, where do you get those sexy trunks? This swimmer is a hottie with great fly rhythm
2:46
trust me, mastering butterfly wasn't as difficult as mastering breaststroke ok.
👍👍👍🙋👋👋👋👋❤️🇧🇾
he is so handsome
