Such class. I’m amazed at the originality and creativity of her expression of response. Who on earth would ever have thought of using the f word, especially when there are so few clean and decent adjectives in the English language?
There was a real experiment type test where James Cameron did a “mythbusters” with 2 actors similar in size to Kate and Leo. They wore similar costumes and were given a prop board for both to get onto. They were In cold water too. Their body temperature was measured and when both actors got on board their bodies were submerged enough where their temperatures were decreasing.
I love how Kate is aging naturally.. and therefore looks like herself still.. so natural and gorgeous. Unlike the previously beautiful women who end up looking like caricatures of themselves- and all that remains, are those classic, tiny beaded eyes- filled with fear...
I agree! Bc even when was just Rose on the boat the there was already a layer of water on top as well. And the idea was to be out of the water as much as possible.
The Mythbusters tested this! It was a question of buoyancy rather than size. ‘Cause, if you remember, Jack did try to get on with her but the door tipped over
I've seen that episode Mythbusters also knew what they were testing, they knew what they went into and they could get out of the water right after Jack and Rose had no idea what they were in for, how to handle a situation like that and had to try and not freeze to death They weren't able to think of anything other than the pain of that water with hypothermia setting in
Yes and if you remember James Cameron addressed the issue in the Mythbusters episode saying that Jack was *always* going to die one way or another and his biggest regret was not making the damn headboard smaller so he wouldn't have to field this question over a thousand times since the movies release in 1997.
The mythbusters also used a ballistic jelly mold of Adam filled with copper piping to simulate a circulatory system and proved that if they had both been on the door the several inches of sub freezing water that they would have exposed to was enough to kill them both before the rescue boat arrived.
Not just them, it seems most people don't remember. That's why this dumb question continues to be asked even though it was clearly answered in the movie.

I feel like that scene in Titanic is like a litmus test of age. When i was a kid and saw the movie I remember thinking it was silly that she said “I’ll never let you go” and then literally let him sink into the ocean. As an adult I fully understand physically parting with someone you love and years and years later, holding onto that sentiment whether they are there with you or not. a child can never understand that type of deep lifelong hold. as a woman, I admire Rose for her courage to live
If you watch the movie, Jack did try to get on the door, but it immediately started sinking with both of them on top of it. So, he got off to save Rose. On the show Mythbusters, they addressed this scene, confirmed that the door would have sunk underwater with two adults on top, and discovered that the door would have been buoyant for two adults if they had thought to put their life vests under the door. Given that their ship had just sunk, people were around them splashing in a panic, the water was freezing cold, and neither Jack or Rose were all that knowledgeable about buoyancy, I doubt they would have thought to put their vests under the door in that circumstance. 🎤 ⬇️💥
Perfectly answered :) Yes, the scene of him trying to climb on is in the film. It never bothered me because they addressed the issue and like you said, even if there was another solution they wouldn't be thinking clearly in icy cold water with people screaming all around. Did everyone go blind at the perfectly clear scene when Jack tried to get on the door and it immediately started sinking so he decided to stay off?! That’s your answer! And what’s more surprising is that Leo and Kate don’t even mention that!
I think they forgot. I did also until people like you mentioned it they I remembered oh yeah he tries to get on then gets a worried look on his face then gets back off it.
I think the question stems from our deep regret and heartache that he had to die to save her. The whole world seeks an answer to that incredible loss we felt for all those who died. That is where this question really stems from. Our hearts can never accept such a great loss.
She's scientifically right. I'm a scientist and because of the water displacement, the door with both of them might have held them up buoyantly enough so they didn't sink all the way down, but the door would have been just underneath the surface of the water, which would have frozen them eventually. The reason Rose survived is because she stayed outside of the water but more importantly, she stayed dry (relatively speaking).
@@lacatracha8649 they were barely surviving. it was about staying dry and conserving energy. the thought of them wet and having enough energy to take turns is nice, but not realistic.

Jack not getting on that board made sure that other drowning passengers won’t compete for that board. Jack assured the stability and protection of the Board and her survival.
It's actually not even a door, but James Cameron did an experiment -- in recent years -- to prove that only one person could have stayed on that piece of paneling. A second person immediately starts to flip the paneling over and causes the entire thing to dip below the water, so it was absolutely impossible for Jack to get up there alongside Rose. Cameron finally did that experiment on camera, because he was tired of constantly hearing the "Jack could have lived/why didn't he get up on the 'door' with Rose" crap over the course of two decades or so. The entire episode is here on RUclips, and he does the experiment with the wood paneling and debunks a few common misconceptions, too. Another experiment he did with the lifeboats actually changed the way I viewed certain aspects of the actual sinking of the Titanic.
Thank God for the logic! Cause this is exactly what I always say. Jack initially does try to get on with Rose and it causes the door to tip over. So when he successfully gets Rose on alone he knows, with both on the door would've submerged or capsized.
I recall bill paxton address this 2 so many angry serious titanic fans, saying "i think jack would have fit the door, too, but the script says he has to die for dramatic effect. Anyway, calm down, guys,we're talking of 2 fictitious characters.." something like that.
Actually the Mythbusters show tested this. It was possible to fit both on the door, but the weight of them both sank the door under the water enough to expose them to enough cold water for long enough where they would both eventually die of Hypothermia. So yes it is possible, for both to fit, but almost unlikely they both survive.
I remember we tried calculating it in a physics class Assuming the door was either mahogany or oak, which are the most common types of wood used in that period, they could have stayed on technically, space-wise, but the board would have been a few centimeters underwater because of their combined weight

@Nor Qaisara Hazrin - It's not that he didn't like the movie but how would *you* feel being asked the same ridiculous questions over and over again for over two decades? Leo was 22 years old when he made Titanic and has acted in well over a dozen other movies in the 27 years since but everything always comes back to Titanic. I'd be pretty frustrated and exasperated at this point too, answering the same questions about the same movie over and over again.
I always wonder why Leo and Kate never ended up in real life. They seem to have so much chemistry and love for each other and a similar attitude towards this question. lol
I remember when this movie came out and all my peers would wear t shirt with the characters face on it. It's been so many years later and I still haven't watched that movie
Kate answered as she was still Rose and Leo is jack ,and as like the rose came to an interview... this shows how much the movie close to their heart and the bestest of their film career.
Hi, I know it's been 7 months, but i had to answer. The waters were below freezing temperature that night, and most people in the water died of hypothermia in about 15 minutes. If they took turns, they both would have died since getting back into the water would have accelerated Rose's hypothermia, and Jack was basically doomed by the time Rose noticed that it was getting quiet.
They keep saying "I don't know" but y'all can't tell me there's not one time they both sat on that door waiting for directions from the director/producer 💀💀😭 y'all were treading water the WHOLE TIMEEm
@Dana Guilbeau so you were there behind the scenes? I'm saying for behind the scenes they must have both sat on that door while waiting for directions or something. They know the truth they just don't wanna say
The point of the scene was never that they both couldn't fit on it. The point was the board wouldn't hold both of them afloat. That's why Jack doesn't get on it. I don't know why people keep saying that Jack could have fit on it when that wasn't even the point.
@@tabora_ considering they were in a swimming pool it’s absolutely possible they didn’t sit on the door whist waiting for directions, they could just stand in the water… or on the side… Also, the director of the movie said multiple times the piece wood could not hold them both, they tested it

For me Kate Winslet was and still is the most beautiful woman on earth
Without a question
Without a question
I love Kate so much, she’s so incredibly talented and hilarious in her normality
Leo seems so sick of that question.
😂 i'm watching this in December 2023, i saw Titanic in February 1998 and i can't believe that this question is still plaguing us 25 years later 😂
Kate, i definitely admire your sense of humour and distance 😍
I always wonder why Leo and Kate never ended up in real life. They seem to have so much chemistry and love for each other and a similar attitude towards this question. lol
Because he doesn’t date women over the age of 25
He prefers what I like to call: "women's best 7 years" (the years from 18 to 25)
Becayse Leo's gay
I like you
The door: "Yes. I got laid by Rose Dawson!! Bye, Jack." 🥶☠️
Love the earrings!
Kate has a great personality.
Genuine.
I love you, Kate! You are the real deal!!!
She is so cool and is aging so beautifully! Truly an inspiration for those of us who don't want to put needles or have surgery on our faces
Ahh Kate got real
That's just what rose has been telling herself for years to make her feel better for not moving over
Lol
It's a MOVIE
@@ohmthepoet8428 👍
To quote Murtaugh "I am too old for this shit"
After almost 30 years....thank u! I bowed down & say thank u Rose!😂❤ i told ya! & let that go!
I absolutely love Kate Winslet. Definitely my favorite actress.
I remember when this movie came out and all my peers would wear t shirt with the characters face on it. It's been so many years later and I still haven't watched that movie
Congrats
@@radhiadeedou8286 thank you
I think Jack didn’t get on the door on purpose because saving Rose was more important to him than saving himself.
Well obviously
Kate answered as she was still Rose and Leo is jack ,and as like the rose came to an interview... this shows how much the movie close to their heart and the bestest of their film career.
The way that Leo is sitting there cracking up and then says, "No comment" always gets me
Thank you for FINALLY settling that!!! Got it sorted❤
The real question should hv been" why didnt they both take turns on that door?
Hi, I know it's been 7 months, but i had to answer.
The waters were below freezing temperature that night, and most people in the water died of hypothermia in about 15 minutes. If they took turns, they both would have died since getting back into the water would have accelerated Rose's hypothermia, and Jack was basically doomed by the time Rose noticed that it was getting quiet.
If you think getting yourself wet and then lying motionless in freezing temperatures is a good idea you must live in a warm climate.
The fact that's she's aged this much, makes me realize how old I'm becoming
its amazing and terrifying at same time..
Whatever she needs to tell herself to sleep at night 😂😂
I love how he continues to ask the question after she's done answering it
I love her vocabulary so much.
She’s an intelligent woman.
They could have taken turns. He wouldn't have frozen to death
They had a hard time moving I don't think that would've worked out
They keep saying "I don't know" but y'all can't tell me there's not one time they both sat on that door waiting for directions from the director/producer 💀💀😭 y'all were treading water the WHOLE TIMEEm
They did not get on the board at the same time
@Dana Guilbeau so you were there behind the scenes? I'm saying for behind the scenes they must have both sat on that door while waiting for directions or something. They know the truth they just don't wanna say
The point of the scene was never that they both couldn't fit on it. The point was the board wouldn't hold both of them afloat. That's why Jack doesn't get on it.
I don't know why people keep saying that Jack could have fit on it when that wasn't even the point.
@@tabora_ considering they were in a swimming pool it’s absolutely possible they didn’t sit on the door whist waiting for directions, they could just stand in the water… or on the side…
Also, the director of the movie said multiple times the piece wood could not hold them both, they tested it
We do have this discussion regularly in our family so thanks for answering it Kate x 😂
I love what keke palmer says about this "girl, you didn't think to take turns?!"
They just needed a Tulkun whale…
The scene was conveying hypothermia and how incapacitated you become.
