So would you suggest a WOC with natural 4b/c hair use hair spray when curling? I found it dried my hair out a lil bit....so i just stick to serums is this bad .....*ducks from brittney's truth...
Hi Brittney could you please be able to do a video on how to cover gray hairs without needing to dye your hair I'm 32 and I have noticed some grey hairs in the past few months that are very noticeable I'm begging you please and thank you
Siren Thomas 😬 I know what you mean. My hair is a 3c and I hate using hairspray bc it’s drying but the truth is, there is nothing else that will hold the curl. So I save using hairspray for special occasions.
Brittney Gray : I would LOVE for you to give me Hazel's haircut and curling iron/pin curls to my *virgin* hair which is past my booty (grown out from a total shave after hair modeling). I am VERY mixed and my hair will not hold a curl for more than 5 minutes-seriously. It's the texture AND the all-one-length factor. I gasped when I saw how long Hazel's hair still looked and how lovely her curls were! Oh, I'd feel like my hair FINALLY had a STYLE! 😍Problem is, I suck at doing my OWN hair (even just using a curling iron) even though I find doing other people's hair easy! Thanks for the video, gives me a lot to consider! 😊
Pretty sure mine goes into this category lol. My hairdresser loves playing with color with my hair because my hair texture basically never changes no matter what you do to it. I literally just had my hair bleached platinum, rocked that for a month, and then got it dyed sunset (purple to red/pink to orange) and I swear it feels even better now lol
Yeah I’m beginning to think thats why mine won’t hold volume for more than half an hour no matter what I do.. like my only option is to tease it while it has hairspray on it but I dont like the look of that at all...
I just wish that she would have treated the hair the same way that way it could be a true side by side comparison. There was a lot of good information in this video though and im glad to know that i was right about my hair being too healthy and just not wanting to hold. My hair would have honestly looked worst than Ingrid because i curl it and it immediately starts to lose its curl even if i hold it in my hand until it cools. By the time i am done curling my hair both sides of my head look completely different.
Jessica Blair agreed. I also noticed that Hazels hair already looked super wavy and textured BEFORE she started styling. I want my hair to look like Hazel big time though!
I find it interesting that you said to work with clean hair, because years ago a hair stylist told me NOT to wash my hair beforehand (so it could hold)... I washed it anyway
depends on what you're trying to do and how oily your hair is haha! Mine is sooo oily, for an updo my hair dresser said, "Don't wash your hair a day before you come in." The next morning I walk in, and she takes one look and says, "Ok, let's go straight to the shampoo bowl."
mine only curls when dirty, i usually wash it then day 4/5 its ready to be attacked with texture spray and curled, then i gently separate and mist with hairspray, after that i just don;r touch
curvyquill Wellnot for days, but totally for one evening if you sleep on them the night before and leave them in until noon (the following day). Also, you have to curl them a lot tighter than you actually desire them to be since you have to calculate in that they’ll loosen up anyway within the period of time before an event.
Lol this didn’t work for me. With heat or without heat curls won’t hold. With heat they go down in like an hour and without heat they go down in like 30 minutes
Ariel Gutierrez I’ve seen a friend who has a similar problem put half a ton of some foam product into their hair when it was wet before curling and then secured it with like a bottle of hair spray... the lengths some people go to achieve curls, maybe this helps but it’s not really worth it for me personally to put in so much effort for half an evening with curled hair tbh
I'm definately Ingrid, I have super fine hair, that's too silky to do anything, I need half a can of hairspray or wax to keep a ponytail in for half a day
haha I have found my people in this comment section. The struggle is real! My hair always looks so flat and just blah. Plus I have sensitive skin, so most hair products break me out.
Sara Dowd I found that if I get a hair product on my skin (a spray protectant, hairspray, etc) that my face breaks out. Try washing your face after applying your hair products. I always wash my body as the very last step of my shower so there’s no conditioner sitting on it too.
5 hours? Girl went to the salon for a wedding, got curls with hairspray and pins to hold them, after being unfolded for the ceremony my hair went straight in 15 minutes tops! And my natural hair isn't even that straight, it's just too damn fine
@@Neseine that sucks i'm sorry. my hair was like that when I was younger. I'm lucky it now can stay for 5 hours. Well not always if it is humid they are gone in 1. Mine's just too healthy and heavy. Wish i had natural curls :(
OMG FINALLY I thought I was crazy!!! My has always been damaged and it will hold a curl until the next wash. If I didn’t wash it for five days, it would hold for five days. I grew my hair out to get it healthy and now I can’t do aaaaanything with it. By the time I finish curling my head, it has already fallen. I am thinking about coloring it just to damage it again so I can curl it.
I used to have blonde hair (naturally) and I would curl it, and it would last for days!! Now that my hair is dark, it’ll hold a curl for maybe a few hours
i have quite straight, very healthy hair. medium thickness, and a lot of it. A heat curl won't hold for long. But a wet set, brushed out with a bit of pommade, gives me beautiful curls that hold the whole day and give me a beautiful wave up to 3 days :) so, I'm sleeping with a pin curl set every now and then. Does not look sexy, but works!
Definitely! That’s the best thing that works. I’ve used Velcro curlers secured with bobby pins, then put my head in a large tote bag (the “greenie” ones you buy from a supermarket), then stick the hairdryer in to dry my hair. Takes about 45 mins to dry though. Another tip is you can make a curl setting gel made from linseeds. Apply to wet hair, then pin curl, leave to dry, and in the morning brush out curls. It doesn’t leave any sticky residue or anything, but you can get a bit of flakes if you apply it very heavily, but it’s no biggie.
oh, the linseed gel sounds interesting! I'm gonna look into it, thank you! I found a lot of interesting hair care products in mens lines. Especially kinda hipstery mens hair and beard brands. Love my Smooth Viking Pommade. my hair is too long for the velcro curlers. I pin it the slightly damp hair flat to my head with bobby pins in an X form, and sleep like that until dry. it gives quite tight curls, and needs some patience brushing out, but after that, I have a head full of 1940s curls. I love it ^^
Damn Brittney my hair is on life support no wonder it wouldn't curl for shit. It doesn't just not hold a curl, it doesn't curl at all. So much for that big wavy bob I dream of.
A) loving your braids!! B) I am one of those people who have “too healthy of hair” where it’s super silky smooth and shiny (not complaining) but totally cannot do anything to it (totally complaining). I have naturally straight fine hair but a lot of it so with the right techniques I can fake “thick hair”. I’ve dyed it a bunch of colours but never really seems to get damaged. Maybe a little dry on the ends in the winter but that’s about it. Round brushing volume or adding waves and curls look absolutely amazing.. for about an hour.. then I’m flat the the grudge.. good to know adding “a little damage” to it could actually be beneficial!! Really liked this video and appreciate that you talk about many different types of hair, not just one or the other. Very inclusive and interesting!! Your beautiful btw!! :))
Loving Hazel's hair! Cut, color, thickness.... Girl!!!! Green with envy!!! Because off my cut and processed hair, I hold curls like Hazel's. Thank God! Brittney you looking awesome!!!
My hair is 100% Ingrid, but maybe worse. I’ve been trying to curl my hair all week because I have a wedding tomorrow and I want my hair to be curly! I failed miserably all week, so tomorrow it’ll be straight, as usual. But thanks so much for this video because now I know it’s not me and the way I am curling it, it’s definitely my hair type. My hair is very fine, very long and very straight. Oh, and I also have no layers at all. What a shitty combination!!
Ditto here too. My hair is almost fingertip length and just straight and fine. Layers did nothing for holding a curl. I found only one thing that did and that's a perm. I wont do it now bc this is the best my hair has ever looked. You can always learn how to do braids. Or let someone practice on you. Just a thought.
I had this same thing at my wedding. My stylist had me blow it out the night before then she curled it as much as she could. Curls didn't make it past the isle. I never blow dry my hair, nor did I have layers and I have 2ft of hair for my wedding. We did a cool braid look on top so I was still very happy! Congrats btw!
Just want to say how much i appreciate your channel. I LOVE my hairdresser but every time I ask a question about hair she just says "I don't know." It gets really frustrating. I have learned so much from you, so Thank you sooo much for sharing your hair knowledge!!!
So glad you address the "clean hair curls best". I see so many videos online from nonprofessionals recommending curling their week old washed hair. Can you do it? Sure, should you do it? Probably not. If you're going to spend all that time curling it, clean hair is best for added insurance. Also your recommendation on another video about spraying bangs in place is spot on. So overlooked by most people but will totally transform your bang-game.
I think my hair goes into the "too healthy" category. It can cop a BEAT DOWN and also won't hold a curl to save itself. Haha. Like I went from black and red to platinum blonde in 8 hours with absolutely no trouble and it was in decent shape. It's also easily oily and bone straight :( Looks limp very easily.
Sooooo, you're making me think maybe my hair is that....too healthy. Imma have to give it a beating to see (never tried bleaching to go pale but have been itching for it lately)
My hair is unfortunately similar to Ingrid's, don't know if that is how you spell it🙄😏, but when my stylist curls it stays for a least 30 minutes. One time she used some type of Kevin Murphy product, that was in a small pink square, & it lasted for 2 hours! I have an all over color but my hair has few layers & is thin af.
Found your channel by chance and I'm soooo glad! Finally, someone who seems to know their stuff. Trichology, physiology, chemistry, architecture... All things "hair" that should be second nature to hair professionals. You've made my day. Keep it up, great work👏🏼💋
My hair is hella wavy/slightly curly (mostly 2C with some 2B & 3A and one section of 2A lmao) but it won't hold a heat-set curl. If I do a wet-set, it'll stay until my next wash! Either foam rollers or rag curls work best for me (21 year old grandmother lmao). Maybe that'll help others who have trouble with heat!
I gave up on curling my hair over a decade ago. I have NEVER worn curls/waves out in public before. Unless I hair spray, curl, hair spray again it does not hold, and then you get to enjoy crunchy thin, fine hair :( . Fine hair always seemed the obvious reason, but it's great to learn about layers and why not having them also makes curls drop out faster!
Can’t really demonstrate the difference the hair cut makes when you’re doing it differently though. That “bad hair cut” could have looked better if she had done it the same way.
Yes!Yes!Yes! Finally a professional that understands how hair can be "too healthy"!!!! I have a lot of fine, very straight, too healthy hair and have had stylist think I'm crazy for suggesting for them to damage (dye) it a little just so I can at least style it.
Totally have fine hair like Ingrid but I get layers put in and it's also pretty healthy. (minimal-no straightening/heat tools, no extreme hair dyes, daily leave in conditioner, etc) I gave up years ago on curling my hair for anything more than a few hours before the curl will undo. Thank you for the video, very educational =)
Thank you so much!! My hair has been blunt cut because of damaged ends and ever since I’ve been LOSING my mind trying to curl it. Literally feel so insecure without having a curl or wave in my fine straight hair. Booked an appointment to her layers. Blesssss
Thank you for this video. I’m a cosmo student with super long, one length, healthy hair that won’t hold a curl and I figured that was why but you just reaffirmed that for me. I’ll just be a straight queen for now :) until I get some color and layers.
I have a lot of fine hair that hates holding curls. The best way for my hair to hold a curl is for it to be dirty and I use texturizing hairspray. My fav is the Got 2b Mess-Merizing Hairspray. It is magical! I spray a little on each section, run my fingers through it in for some volume and then use a curling iron. After all of my hair is curled, I use Tresemme extra firm control all over. The spray is pretty light so your hair won't turn into cement.
I'm an Ingrid, and my hair has suddenly become more fine. It's quite long, halfway down my back. I have no layers, just face framing layers and sideways bangs. I'm going to follow your advice and get some layers, my longtime Hairdresser moved and I haven't found anyone else like her. Thank you for the advice, you're stunning!!
I'm blessed to have hair like Hazel's. I can curl my hair and it will hold a curl for like 3 days. My hair has some texture which I'm sure helps a lot! It makes it very frustrating for me when I try to curl other people's hair because I'm not used to it being so flat.
Every time I get my hair cut in layers and I curl it it never looks like the one you just did.Yours is just beautiful. I will try it like you did and see what happens. Thanks for this video!! I learned so much. My hair is like Ingrids..
i have the weirdest hair texture - my hair is super defined pencil-width curls, but its thin and very fine. so when i straighten it, it curls after about an hour, and when i curl it (after straightening it ofc) it goes straight after an hour! my secret weapon is Frizz Ease 3-day straight! despite the name it helps hold any type of heat styling and it extends my wear time to nearly 2 days! love it
Thanks.. I use ION styling starch but I have used Redken starch before I dunno if they make it anymore. Lately I’ve been using Fantastic Sams thick and full shampoo and I swear it’s doing something to my hair. I went to the beach and no frizz. My hair is naturally fine and wavy and very dense and heavy.
My hair has been super-thick for my entire life. I’ve never had problems with curling it. But I’ve had a lot of hair loss because of medical issues lately and I’ve discovered that apparently my hair _texture_ is fine because I can no longer get it to hold a curl or even the waves I normally style it in. After watching this, I kinda want layers cut in, but I’m scared it’s going to look even thinner than it does now.
As a fine haired girl, I have always gotten layers. Layers make hair look less heavy and more *voluminous.* The first time I got layers, I asked the stylist for long layers so that I could test out the haircut (only an inch difference from the bottom of my longest hair length). After that, I asked for shorter layers because they took off the weight of my hair while still adding volume. You can watch beauty school tutorials to see exacrly how different haircuts change the end result and figure out what works best for you . Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot! My hair doesn’t hold curl at all so I tought it was just because it was so straight and thin. Therefore I never got layers cause I tought they would make it look even thinner. Next time at the hairsalon I will definately try it out!
I have fine naturally curly hair and have spent most of my life straightening it. I now have a cut where I want loose beachy waves and I'm having endless problems getting curl to hold - it looks great for a couple of hours and then starts to fall. I've spent a small fortune on product in an attempt to over come this problem. This is the first time I've heard that clean hair holds a curl better. I always thought it was the other way around - particulary when it comes to product in the hair - I was under the impression that product in the hair was a good thing. When I finally discover what actually works with my hair I'm going to stick with it. Very frustrating learning curve I'm on here. And I thought I'd be ahead of the game because I'm staring with natural curl ...
A guy with really straight hair here, my hair won't hold a curl until day 3 after a wash... but lately it won't hold at all. Thanks for the tips I'll try them out
Got rid of my layers and it's craaaazy how big of a difference I noticed in my curls. Even though my hair is 15 cm shorter now and a lot less heavy it gets a lot less curly. I don't mind though, prefer the no (well, minimal) layers and the less curly hair, but I was just so amazed by what a difference haircut can make.
Oh I am Ingrid through and through! My hair is straight, fine and thin (thanks mom and dad for the wonderful genetics). My mother's brother was actually born completely hairless and my grandmother (their mom) was wearing a wig by 30 (I'm 31 and have two bald spots already). My hair refuses to curl no matter what. I've tried the hair cut, I've tried the overnight curl, you name it. I have however accepted my faith and will most likely just buy a nice wig when I get desperate ;p I think the only time my hair actually curled, I was maybe 7, my mom had used hot curlers and an entire bottle of strong hold hairspray for one of my gymnastic shows. It was wonderful and I thankfully still have pictures :D sometimes you just can't do anything about your hair type and just gotta embrasse it. So here I am......a straight hair mess!
yes yes! Finally! When my hair was natural (not dyed) it was impossible to style, I could never get a curl to last even when I had lots of layers in my hair. After I died my hair it became so much easier! No one believed me that dying your hair can actually help your hair be more manageable. However, I have very straight, fine hair, and I love it long but every time I get layers I look like I have even less hair on my head :((
My hair is long and fine but it does hold a curl very well WITH the right cut. Watching you makes me want to go get a nice cut again. I'm so casual that it's usually in a braid everyday anyway though.
I have 2c hair. I have always been told I have thick hair but the strands are baby fine. I have trouble managing it to be honest. I have sensory issues so using products, curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers can be difficult. I recently started using products by shea moisture. They have very mild smells, my hair is never crunchy afterwards and almost everything is in cream form as opposed to a spray, which make is easier for me.
If you find that your hair does not hold a curl, it may also be helpful for you to experiment with wet-set styling instead of heat styling. My hair is fine, long, and silky (probably falls into the "too healthy" category) and it's tough to get it to hold a curl. I switched to pin curls and old-school foam rollers and--after some trial-and-error--it works so much better for me.
Ty so much for this video. I love your technique of pinning the curls and I didn't know you needed clean hair to hold a curl. I look forward to trying this!
I’ve been struggling my whole life with curling my hair. I have had very healthy very long straight hair for so many years and I always wanted to scream because no matter what I tried it just didn’t want to stay curled. I am 19 and realized finally about 2 months ago that the reason why is because my hair has always been all one length so I took it upon myself to cut layers into my hair on a whim one night after so many years of being scared of them (idek why) and finally I can get a decent curl. And now after all that I find this video 🤦🏻♀️ wish I would have saw something like this years ago. I still can’t hold a curl well at all but at least I can achieve some body for 30 minutes. Before only my ends would curl
I’ve never heard about hair being too healthy to style but it makes a lot of sense now. I have virgin straight hair and I’ve always had a hard time styling it. It always falls.
My hair looks like a literal mane when I go for layers, and it's not a nice look at all. The hair's extremely fair though so even with some layers I can't exactly style it so it ends up looking unkempt and unhealthy to boot. So I've pretty much given up on it and now it's just long and boring. No curl for the wicked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I can attest that I have tried a lot of different things and have had a range of different layered hairstyles, even some short, and alas, the curls rarely last. The longest I had curls in my hair was when my hair was above shoulder length and even then they started to fall out pretty quickly. I've always been a little jelly of girls who can do beautiful curls even on long hair that seem to last forever. Now that my hair is long, it lasts maybe a max of 30 minutes and my hair is far from thin , I've given up on the idea I'll ever have super beautiful curls unless I do overnight ones lol
For me to straighten my hair. And it lasting longer than 20 minutes. Even when there is no wind and i move minimally. I require A LOT of hairspray. It is just frizz galore on my head. As soon as I wake up. Waves. Brushing it. Bland, hair triangle on my head of frizz. When i don't brush it that happens as soon as i start actually moving. I am jealous of straight haired people. I can't control my hair at all.. Be careful with what you wish for
Dutchik I don't wish to have any other type of hair, but my hair used to be like that when I went through puberty. I had a big hormonal change & my hair became frizzy, dry and curly. If you have curly hair, it's best to embrace it instead of trying to fight against it since most methods of trying to get straighter hair usually damages it in the process and can cause dry hair on top of everything else. Sulfate/silicone free shampoo and conditioner, oil treatments, diffusing your hair, sleeping on a satin pillow case, sleeping with your hair in a smooth scarf, and getting a good leave in product/oil that's not filled with protein if you're protein sensitive can help you hair be a lot more manageable :) Even though my hair is somewhat straight, I fought so hard to get it actually pin straight and dyed it many times and it in turn turned into a super damaged and dry mess that was crunchy all the time. I've noticed allowing my hair to grow longer and helping it (despite almost 5 years of hard work) it's allowed my hair to be heavier and its not as frizzy as it used to be
@@ladydough Yeah. My hair used to be a bit less frizzy. As a kid i just had these beautifull pipe curls. Puberty made it a lot less manageable. When i am wearing a ponytail. and i don't have to bike afterwards, i put hairspray or mousse in it, just to attampt to control the hair aura. If i don't i have the hair triangle.
Dutchik I completely understand that, I used to use mousse to keep my hair straight and the frizz down but it never worked. I wish I didn't keep trying to fight against it but when I was younger, nobody viewed curly has as pretty and everyone around me had straight silky hair. I had to do a big chop at age 16 to get all of the dead mess off my head. Now everyone wants curly hair and are finally viewing naturally curly hair as beautiful
My hair is the super healthy hair like you talked about, but I’ve been dying/bleaching my hair for 5 years and my texture to my hair never changed. What do you suggest? I have a hair appointment coming up, and I will suggest layers. Thanks for your informational video! I learned a lot!
My Dad gave me his very thick and healthy hair (he’s 50 and he still hasn’t gone grey) but I got my mom’s color. I remember I kept trying to get loose curls it it never... really... stayed. I bleached my hair once and it finally was able to hold a curl 😂. My hair still feels good though; I treat it right and my natural color wasn’t too far from light blonde in the first place.
Ok so with this video I thought I would ask. I tried to perm my hair. Twice. I went to a salon both times. And each time she used matrix. I wanted beach waves. And my hair is still pin straight. Why wont my hair perm?
@@monsutades9999 its jus6 so frustrating because she said shes never had someone's hair not take a perm. Like when I wet it now, it gets wavy, but as it dries it looks the exact same way it always did since the day I was born. And every stylist I ask is baffled that it didnt work.
@@soliriabridges1470 Have you ever had a Malibu treatment before? It could be mineral or other types of buildup preventing the perm from working. If you have hard water or swim a lot that could definitely be an issue. Malibu's can also help people with rather resistant hair in general if done right before the service. I have also used matrix perms. Although they aren't my favorite, they do perform pretty consistently so I wouldn't guess that to be the issue.
Corina Roof perms aka chemical wave is way more obvious when your hair is wet. If you want a beach wave it’s honestly really hard to style IMO but next time I would try maybe a smaller roller. I was nervous my perm would be too tight but next time I’m getting smaller rollers so based on your history I’d think that you could get away with a smaller roller and not end up with corkscrews
Do some research on band/ribbon hair. This kind of hair is flat like a ribbon. It is impossible to perm. You probably have this kind of hair. There are tests to see if you have this kind of hair. Some hairdressers will be able to test your hair. But not all hairdressers know enough about it.
Yes!!!! When I told my hairstylist that my straight, fine (medium thick) hair had quit holding a curl since I was growing it out, my hairstylist gave me some great layers. (Also, my complaint pre-haircut was that my hot roller curls fell right out! Layers fixed that.) It was worth losing some thickness and a bit of length.
My hair is fine and thin, but will sometimes hold curls very well depending on it’s mood and our crazy Houston weather/humidity. Before I started coloring it, it would hold curl but only on one side of my head (!). Now, it’s a bit more even but I do have to hold the curling wand for like 5 seconds longer on my right side (the thinner side) in order for it to accomplish a more balanced look. I’d LOVE to have that mannequin’s hair :)
I have super fine pin straight hair that’s never had more than a henna or glossing treatment. I also rarely heat my hair or use much more than salt spray for product. My hair scoffs at the efforts of curling irons 😂 especially since I live in Florida and the humidity finishes off the collapse.
Hi, my name is Ingrid and I look nothing like that mannequin 😂 I’m Latina with thick hair, and my hair can hold a curl for days 💁🏼 Love you Brittney, as a fellow hairstylist, I can honestly say I love watching your videos and I have learned so much from you. ❤️
Heaven help me. I'm an Ingrid. Fml. Bleach my hair and I am so afraid of severely damaging it that never going above a 20 vol results in a still greasy azz head of hair. My old stylist said it's too healthy to hold a curl. I laughed but now I see what she meant by that. Also. You look amaze a ballz!! Love the total look and your lipstick shade is so frickin pretty! Thanks so much for the info! Very informative.
I’m an Ingrid... it’s har for me to do the pincurls on myself. I like to use hot rollers but it always fallls... I think I will try putting the spray on before rolling and see if it helps!
Thank you Could you please prepare and use the same products on Ingrid ‘s hair as you did on Hazel’s hair? I want to make sure that we’ve got a chance even if we don’t have Hazel’s beautiful haircut. Thank you
When I do curl my hair it does not hold a curl. I had layers, my hair was washed, and I have natural wavey hair. I was wondering if there is such a thing as having wavey and fine hair? My hair is very oily naturaly as well, but I did wash it the day I wanted to curl it. I've also had issues with my hair holding curls. I also wanted to let you know I used heat protected spray. I don't like using hair spray. Is not using hair spray part of why my hair does not hold a curl?
Mine is like Ingrid. My hair is collarbone length, fine and a bit too healthy. Sometimes, when I try crazy colors, it won't stay. I have to bleach my hair and even when I do, it is healthy still. I don't have layers. I try to grow my hair out evenly cause it sucks having hair sticking out everywhere. I can curl it with a hot tools iron, you just stick the curl and turn until it hides inside the barrel. I put the heat to high, use loads of spray and it just won't hold a curl. I need to get my hair professionally done. Even my hairstylist is exasperated by my hair.
I have curly hair but it's both fine and thin, and an oily scalp (mostly due to the thinness) so it gets weighed down easily, and most of my natural curls fall into waves, especially once it's all dry. It's also longer, and I have bleached it, which the bleaching has actually helped with thickness and having texture, which gives my hair a bit more hold. I have been using rogaine and it's been helping too (on the days I don't forget to put it in). I'm afraid to get too many layers because of how thin/fine it is, so I feel really stuck on how to encourage my curls to come back, and encourage man-made curls to stick around, because they disappear within an hour of them getting done :(
My hair is definitely more like Ingrid... I have fine-medium hair texture. My hair is also VERY HEALTHY, something I've always been pretty proud of... Until now... I'm now considering getting it colored, just so that I can get it to hold a curl... I've never really done much with my hair, for a long time I would just straighten it or just throw it up in a ponytail, but now I'm really getting into wearing it curly and it's just not working well for me... I guess I need to ask my stylist for more layers and consider some color... Thanks for sharing this video and all this great info!
I will definitely be following these steps! However is there any shampoo that will aid my hair in keeping a curl? I’m getting married in a month and at my hair trial my stylist used a ton of hairspray and it still didn’t hold so I need all the help I can get.
I have such a difficult time doing anything with my hair. It’s super straight, thick, heavy, and course. I felt so bad for the stylist for my wedding, bless her heart, she did a great job, but she had a time getting it to look nice
I feel like I've done everything you say. Very clean hair won't hold a curl, 2 day hair won't hold a curl. Hot rollers left in for hours to cool, won't hold. Pinning hot curls up to cook, and spraying them before and after heat, won't stay. As a matter of fact, once i'm done curling one side of my hair, the first part is already gone. It leaves me with slight body, but that's it. I use very good products in my hair and color my roots every 6 weeks, with a slight trim with long layers. All i can think is that it's too healthy. Even if i go to bed with wet hair, it dries straight. I think i give up. It used to hold a curl for days and days in my younger years. I guess it's a hormone thing. Plus it's to m waste. Who knows!!
My hair won’t hold a curl because it’s thick and 1 meter long, sometimes I feel sad cause even though I love my hair I am “forced” to keep it the way it is, in its natural way I try to curl it, I even pin it to let it cool while being curled up, and then it falls down! But I love so much so...
@@nin4339 oh. I thought you said you were forced to keep it that long. And i am truly jealous it can grow that long healthily. Mine doesnt even half and it is dead. Completely dead it won't go as far
I have the "too healthy" hair. I don't use to many styling products, I wash every 2-3 days. I don't brush while my hair is wet, do not blow dry, or use heat, basically everything that you're suppose to do with hair.
Brittany I have fine and thin hair since birth . I had natural baby curls too but my mom would oil my hair and tie ponytail due to which it is now wavy and has no volume and I cannot go back to my old baby curls. Also I noticed that my hair in the front on top is kind of dry and damaged while the ones on back is very healthy. Also I have never coloured my hair since it is very fine and fragile. Can you please make a video of how to recover certain portion of hair ? How to avoid further damage? Or a video dedicated only to thin and fine hair ? No content on the internet is dedicated to it. Thank you I love watching all your videos . Great content, well explained 😊
My hair is like Ingrids. I currently have virgin hair that is very fine. It used to be board-straight, but as I get older, I am getting more wave to it. However, I still don't have much lift in the roots, so it just sort of falls flat. I also have super sensitive skin, so most hair products break me out as they touch my face/neck/shoulders/back through the day. Too many layers tend to make my fine hair look weird and choppy, so I go for minimal layering just around the bottom. Maybe that's why I don't seem to have much volume? Short layers just look awful on me, and make my hair look so thin.
Brittney could you do a video on how to curl a long hair? I feel like my hair is too long for a curling iron and idk what to do, should I invest in a longer wand or something?
I guess I need to start pinning my curls to cool. I never wanted to take the extra time honestly but it's a waste of time taking 30 mins to curl my long thick hair just for it to be straight in an hour. So i will definitely try it out.
My hair can hold a curl for a few days but a few years ago I went and got a perm. My hair is naturally wavy but stupid thick. I paid 150 for the double rolled perm and the curls didnt last a week. It was back to the natural way it waves. I had no color or dyes of any kind at the time. This perm was done at a salon that I had been going to for almost 10 years and by the same person who always does my hair so she knew my hair well and "said" she was dumbfounded as to why it would not hold a perm. I would LOVE to have curls all of the time instead of straightish hair. I have videos on my youtube channel if you want hair reference. Thanks for this video. It was helpful.
Sorry for the poor sound quality! My mic was not plugged in the whole time I was recording. 😩
Don't worry, I didn't even notice😘
I have straight silky hair and my hair looks cute at first when I curl it but a couple minutes later it already straight again. I hate it
Diana Ibarra legit me
Same!
Same :(
Same😭
Same!!! I can’t ever get my hair to hold a curl☹️
Finally someone mentions the "too healthy" hair thing It's a real thing
Forreal. So many clients don't understand that concept...
I'm jealous
My mom’s hair is too healthy so she hates how flat it looks but it’s nice hair
The hoops really tie your look together. You look gorgeous as always.
I am literally bald why am I watching this
Koko Rose 😂😂😂😂
@@YolandaReyesXO probably because of the wig in the thumbnail because same here😂
Bahaha same here! Wishful thinking I believe! ;)
I have natural curls idk why I'm watching this either lol
For your wig
Jessica Blair finally someone feels the pain
My hair can’t hold a curl to save my life. I love how you teach. We get the lecture and the lab.
That lipstick shade is so pretty on you. I love listening to you talk about hair. I wish I had Hazel's hair.
I find it interesting that you said to work with clean hair, because years ago a hair stylist told me NOT to wash my hair beforehand (so it could hold)... I washed it anyway
I was thinking the same thing.. My impression was that dirty hair styled better
depends on what you're trying to do and how oily your hair is haha!
TRY HEATLESS CURLS!!! trust me my hair never held a curl but once i did heatless curls and let that set overnight my curls could last for days.
wet sets for the win! :)
I was happy with them, but no, wouldn't think they'd last so long. At least got some curls in my hair though.;)
curvyquill Wellnot for days, but totally for one evening if you sleep on them the night before and leave them in until noon (the following day).
That feeling when you have Fine Straight Long one Length hair & u realize its hopeless😫😭😭😭
Mooooooooooood 😞
Have your stylist add some texture to your cut. I did it and it’s amazing. I still have a blunt straight cut but some texture pieces.
omg i have that same hair texture
Felt that😭😭
Saaaaaaaaaame.
Yaaass!!! Im so glad I'm not the only one with these issues.
My hair is fine, naturally straight, and the same length. I’m doomed 😫
me too😔😔
@@stefantipatescu Me 3 lol and now I know I am gonna get a cut!
My hair held curles so well when it was extremely damaged. I grew it out to be healthy and now i can't hold a single curl for longer than 5 hours
Same here!!
I used to have blonde hair (naturally) and I would curl it, and it would last for days!! Now that my hair is dark, it’ll hold a curl for maybe a few hours
i have quite straight, very healthy hair. medium thickness, and a lot of it. A heat curl won't hold for long. But a wet set, brushed out with a bit of pommade, gives me beautiful curls that hold the whole day and give me a beautiful wave up to 3 days :)
so, I'm sleeping with a pin curl set every now and then.
I love it ^^
I’ve got long hair and I use the Velcro rollers! 😎
Like I said, I just secure them with bobby pins
Damn Brittney my hair is on life support no wonder it wouldn't curl for shit. It doesn't just not hold a curl, it doesn't curl at all. So much for that big wavy bob I dream of.
I feel like I’ve seen you comment on Teals videos
same. I hate it 😭
A) loving your braids!! :))
I curled my hair put hairspray on it and it didnt even last 5 minutes
Loving Hazel's hair! Cut, color, thickness.... Girl!!!! Green with envy!!! Because off my cut and processed hair, I hold curls like Hazel's. Thank God! Brittney you looking awesome!!!
I had the "too healthy" hair then I dyed it for the first time and wow it works so much better my curls literally last for days now
My hair is 100% Ingrid, but maybe worse.
I have the same hair!! It's nice to find people who have the same issue for once, lol.
I wish I could have straight hair all the time. Curly hair is not easy to maintain. Its always frizzy and crazy.
Try a Paul Mitchell curling iron their the only ones that work for me and it dosnt damge your hair
Dear god, I needed this information.
I think my hair goes into the "too healthy" category. It can cop a BEAT DOWN and also won't hold a curl to save itself. Haha. Like I went from black and red to platinum blonde in 8 hours with absolutely no trouble and it was in decent shape.
It's also easily oily and bone straight :( Looks limp very easily.
mine is the same way.. it handles bleach like a champ but wont hold a curl
Sooooo, you're making me think maybe my hair is that....too healthy. Imma have to give it a beating to see (never tried bleaching to go pale but have been itching for it lately)
Ammie Cat lol same
My hair is unfortunately similar to Ingrid's, don't know if that is how you spell it🙄😏, but when my stylist curls it stays for a least 30 minutes.
My hair was exactly the same before I got a perm I still hate curling irons. Flexi rods all the way
I gave up on curling my hair over a decade ago.
I feel like this wasn't a fair judgement because she didn't put the curls on the one up in pins to cool so .....
Andrew Gillette yes she had too many variables
I feel like she did that to show the do and don'ts of curling hair.
The whole point was to show dos and don'ts
Can’t really demonstrate the difference the hair cut makes when you’re doing it differently though. That “bad hair cut” could have looked better if she had done it the same way.
Yh. I was looking for this comment. Now I’m not sure of my hair type.
Your hair looks cute love the braids! Tutorial 👀??
Thank you so much!! My hair has been blunt cut because of damaged ends and ever since I’ve been LOSING my mind trying to curl it. Literally feel so insecure without having a curl or wave in my fine straight hair. Booked an appointment to her layers. Blesssss
The one with the thick human hair, the color is gorgeous..
You kinda look like a mix between Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen ❤️
I'm blessed to have hair like Hazel's. I can curl my hair and it will hold a curl for like 3 days. My hair has some texture which I'm sure helps a lot! It makes it very frustrating for me when I try to curl other people's hair because I'm not used to it being so flat.
Every time I get my hair cut in layers and I curl it it never looks like the one you just did.Yours is just beautiful. I will try it like you did and see what happens. Thanks for this video!! I learned so much. My hair is like Ingrids..
Brittney, now you've got girls who have admitted their hair is bleached thinking their problem is that their hair is just "too healthy." lmao
Can you please do a tutorial on your braids its really sleek and cute 💖
i have the weirdest hair texture - my hair is super defined pencil-width curls, but its thin and very fine. so when i straighten it, it curls after about an hour, and when i curl it (after straightening it ofc) it goes straight after an hour! my secret weapon is Frizz Ease 3-day straight! despite the name it helps hold any type of heat styling and it extends my wear time to nearly 2 days! love it
alyssa ranieri is that a shampoo or spray? I need to try that
dinolemma it's a spray, you can find it at any drugstore! you put it on wet hair kinda of like a leave in conditioner
I have the exact same problem. Have to straighten it first and then curl, but my curls fall flat within an hour I'll have to try the frizz ease
yass i love that you named her Hazel! There aren't many of us left ahah
😱I want this hairstyle, the whole look 😱 minimalist perfection!!!
Thanks for the tips I'll try them out
You give so much more info then most people doing videos on this topic. Thank you!
Hazel's after hair is awesome perfectly styled bouncy layered curled style. :)
Your makeup looks flawless
If my hair is thin should I still get layers so that it will hold a curl? Or keep it one length to make it look thicker?
?
layers will actually make your hair look fuller because it won't be weighed down.
layers
Ugh that second mannequin hair is so pretty!
It's probably low porosity meaning it doesn't accept product well
@@monsutades9999 its jus6 so frustrating because she said shes never had someone's hair not take a perm.
My hair is Ingrid. I wish it was like Hazel's! Going to try these tips for sure, thank you!
I am totally Ingrid!! This video was very helpful! Next cut will definitely be layered. Thank you!
Thank you
Could you please prepare and use the same products on Ingrid ‘s hair as you did on Hazel’s hair?
Who knows!!
I just liked the video before watching! That's how much I enjoy your videos xx!
My hair won’t hold a curl because it’s thick and 1 meter long, sometimes I feel sad cause even though I love my hair I am “forced” to keep it the way it is, in its natural way
I try to curl it, I even pin it to let it cool while being curled up, and then it falls down! But I love so much so...
Why are you forced to keep it that long?
Dutchik I’m not forced, I love it that way!
@@nin4339 oh. I thought you said you were forced to keep it that long.
And i am truly jealous it can grow that long healthily. Mine doesnt even half and it is dead. Completely dead it won't go as far
Dutchik oh don’t worry! But I’m so sorry to hear that, I’m pretty sure that with a consistent routine it can grow back and be healthy! 😘
I have the "too healthy" hair. I don't use to many styling products, I wash every 2-3 days. I don't brush while my hair is wet, do not blow dry, or use heat, basically everything that you're suppose to do with hair.
Is it healthy to be so resentful towards a mannequins head?? Looking at you Hazel 'perfect hair' head! ;)
your eyeliner is perfection
Seriously SO in love with this look BG!! 🤤
Now I know. I need to get my hair cut. Thanks so much!!!
I have wavy hair and I clean it before I curled it I have no split ends and it still doesn't curle
Omg. Girl, I LOVE your videos. 😍
I've learned so much from you about hair, and I really appreciate it. Also, this makeup look is 💣💣💣
Brittney I have the long fine hair that will not curl. Thank you so much for this. I have learned a lot from your videos.
Hey Brittney, what's the best way to curl the hair and then sleep on it for the next day without losing the curls?
