Wild how this came back around 2 years later. Randomly found this channel recently and have been intrigued ever since. I've always enjoyed various canned meats & was interested in canned seafood products but was disappointed usually. Seeing these vids makes me want to try some better quality brands/variety.
I’ve been a proponent of sardines for years it’s so exciting to find this channel and realize I’m not alone. And for the record I mainly eat beach cliff sardines and they can be hit or miss but I enjoy them all the same. Love sardines on toast with scrambled eggs
Those kipper snacks are a great beer drinking snack on some crackers with hot sauce. The saltiness is fine when you've got a glass of beer in your hand to wash them down.
Random and off-topic, but I would really enjoy a whole video of just those city scenes you do with the synth tunes dubbed over them. I find them soothing, for some reason.
Thanks. They don't do well now that this is the Fish Show... Maybe when I get more subs and I can get a running start on spinning off a new channel, I'll do more stuff like that.
Long time subscriber here. Life long Sardines aficionado and former chef instructor. I love your channel and I truly love sardines. My wife of twenty eight years told me that if I opened one more can of sardines in the house. That she'd leave me. Women are so fickle. Really gonna miss her though. But I gotta be me. I've eaten Beach Cliff sardines before. I find, like you, just eating them straight out of the can to be a bit challenging. Having said that. I've had much worse. I still have the nightmares. But at least Beach Cliff sardines are from Canada and don't have that led warning you get on the Asian varieties. I'd recommend everyone looking at the label of their chosen sardines and make sure it doesn't have any warnings on the box. Especially "may contain led ". Holy shit! But Beach Cliff sardines are great smothered in mustard and slapped between two slices of good bread or toast. Pickle's and onions optional. Just please leave anything canned in China or Asia alone. Sardines are generally the healthiest, and most sustainable fish we can eat. If it comes with a warning there are always other nontoxic alternatives with the same price point. Keep up the great work and may all your sardines be Bristlings.

Beech Cliff Sardines: Memories of my late 50's childhood at the Appalachain Mountain Club's family camp on Echo Lake, Mount Desert Island, Maine. (Yup, I were a "summer puke"!) Occaisionally, the camp leadership would organize a tour of the sardine processing plant in Southwest Harbor. Huge bins of cans feeding the several packing lines with hundreds of women cutting off the sardines' heads and tails and placing 'em in the can. NEXT CAN! And then on to the steamer. What a fascinating sight to a kid... who's now in his late '70's and flashes back to those good 'ole days every time he see's a can of 'em. My dad would buy a case or two every time. I've also climbed Beech Cliff 'cause the cliff was directly opposite the camp and if I remember correctly, there were 7 ladders to climb on the way up the trail. Jimmy and I and some others slept on top to catch the sunrise. Echo Lake was named because one could shout from the camp's dock and get an echo off the cliff. Lobster boat rides up Somes Sound; The Hinkley boat yard; renting a day sailer in Manset for !! $ 2 per hour and sailing to Baker's Island for a lunch out of a basket!! I even rented a motor launch at $7 /hour to surprise a girl, Francis P. T., at the Ecole Arcadi french language camp (now something else). Lobster cook-outs on the Seawall. I will alway remember Beech Cliff and Mt Desert Island.... but the sardine packing plants are long deserted.

I got a couple cans of beach cliff in water at the big lots down the street from my house .. they were so mushy and barely had any flavor .. the first can I ate on its own .. the second I had to grab the triscuits and brown mustard .. they did the trick for my craving but there is def better cans out there for sure ! Thank you for this video! I would very much like to see a “battle royale of the crappy sardines“. Also, if you don’t have this already, a top 10 best and worst list is always fun!
Beach cliff in oil with green chilies from Canada are good. Another product I enjoy from time to time is Herring in an oblong can called Golden Smoke. My favorite is Season brand boneless skinless sardines in oil. I take them for lunch a few times a month. I add fresh cracked pepper and Himalayan pink salt to them and yes I do have miniature salt and pepper grinders in my lunch box.
Those are the only ones that I haven't tested yet. Lol! When we were kids my mother would heat up a bunch of oblong cans of California girl sardines in tomato sauce & serve it over rice. Haven't eaten it since then! Really enjoyed it at the time!
I just bought this brand at Walmart today. I haven't eaten any, yet. They were even cheaper than the Great Value/Walmart-brand ones! I also got some of those and some King Oscar for comparison. I've eaten sardines quite a few times before I discovered this channel, but this channel inspired me to buy more and review them on my own channel!
I just bought some Beach Cliff from my local store. The ones that I got were with hot green chilies and were from Canada. They looked a LOT better than the ones from Poland that you have.
I had a good laugh (laughing with you). I've done these and had almost the exact same evaluation. The Kippers are sometimes used in a cream cheese spread. If one has to buy on the cheap, buy the Walmart dines in oil and soak them overnight in olive oil refrigerated. Add black olive slices or whatever. The Walmart dines vary in size so you might get the tiny fish or the big jumbos. They're not as firm as I'd like but the ones I tried weren't as mushy as the BeachCliff. Great video, thanks...P.S. The Dollar Tree does get weird brands but they're usually on the bottom shelf under the BeachCliff (but be ready to spit scales).
Hey Dale, I think the cream cheese is a great idea. Somebody else brought up the notion that Beach Cliff's quality has fallen in recent years. I believe it. When I say I have eaten Beach Cliff before, I'm only now realizing that was 15 years ago. Time flies.
I take the beachcliff sardines in soybean oil I put them on a plate right out of the can. Scrape out is most of the oil as I can I take my favorite hot sauce shake all over the soybean oil and sardines. Then I mush it up with a fork. From there I take a saltine cracker. Place it on the cracker and eat it. Sometimes I take a little pinch of horseradish or a pinch of wasabi and mix it up in the sardines and soybean oil. And I'm drinking a can of Pabst Blue ribbon beer. And that is what I call a perfect lunch....👍

I just saw the Beach Cliff on sale for 79 cents a can the other day and was tempted. I went with some smoked dines from Bar Harbor instead. You need to do a Bar Harbor episode! They were awesome.
I live in the home town of DT (Chesapeake, Va). My local DT has a very luxurious looking brand of sardines in a raw cardboard box. I tried the ones in mustard sauce soon as I got home. They were good.
I'm posting here to tell you that the Beach Cliff "Fish Steaks" in Louisiana sauce is actually really good, top tier for me. Not mushy, actually really flaky like proper cooked fish would be, and good hot sauce flavor. Give those a try sometime if you see em
❤️ When did the stickers on top of the cans become a thing? I think I remember a time when the image on the top of the can was printed directly on the metal.
Try Brunswick Kippered Snacks Golden smoked sardines or Herring. They naturally smoked, and canned in water. These are a Canadian product, and they are the very best.
New to the deens. Love Bela, first ones I’ve tried, and then I tried King Oscar and it was Way too stinky and salty. I like your videos because they show that not every brand tastes the same. You’re awesome!
Ok, so you have to go back to the Dollar store. They are carrying a brand called, Casablanca. Skip the ones in water, but the ones in sunflower oil and the mustard sauce are actually pretty good ! Definitely worth a try. Nice taste, nice texture ....
With cheap sardines like Beach cliff they are improved a lot by pouring off whatever they are in and adding your own virgin olive oil. They are also good to cook with, to add to a spaghetti sauce for example.
Stumbled in here (to your channel) literally haha, but I'm enjoying this,.this is exactly what I've been wanting to do, try random but interesting canned fish
Don’t beat your self up man, beach cliff es no bueno. Have you reviewed Costco’s Wild Planet Wild Pacific Sardines in extra virgin? My missus bought me a few boxes and they’re reeel good. Big, firm and lightly smoked and salted. A real treat. I found the can to be a bit flimsy and a bit hard to open w/o making a mess but a small price to pay. Currently my favorite fish.
These were the first sardines I ever had, as a little kid. I don't remember what inspired me to ask for sardines, but I suddenly wanted them. My dad said I wouldn't like them and it would be a waste of money, damn was he wrong. Haven't had them since though, I'll stick to my King Oscar lol.
I was 8. I got a tin of Beachcliff plain sardines from a White Elephant gift game at a church event. Came home showed my parents. They laughed and told me my grandfather (who passed a few months earlier) loved sardines and ate them regularly. Told me how to try them. So in the spirit of carrying on his memory I tried them. I loved them.

I even am close to L ray packing was another brand Maine. Bumble bee is getting them packed cheapest closed all are plants . L ray been closed years but Brunswick was canning for him. I can tell you alot about them
You got lucky with that can of kippers. I bought a few cans the other day, 3 out of 4 were filled with what can best be described as "fish mush". And you're right. They're way too salty.
8:50 I bet the acid in the hot sauce degraded the protein bonds in the fish probably the case with the mustard too but it still sounds like it would taste good
9:34 cracks me up every time! For the record the desk vids are awesome but I do miss the random location shots in the videos. Not knowing where you’ll be sitting really gives it that special lil touch my brother🍻
Ive been watching an alfred hitchcock presents marathon lately and the 1:14 mark gave me such a mindfrick i had to rewind 😂😂 , i really love your presentation style etc. this is a hidden gem of a channel.
I've tried most of the Beach Cliff sardine varieties and I actually prefer the ones packed in water. I think you should waste one more dollar and give them a try.
I feel like we really are experiencing Matthew Carlson in his natural habitat now. When is he going to upload a VR video of him eating some dines so I can become John Malkovich, I mean Matt Carlson.
I like to dump the hot sauce ones in some brown rice and mix it all up, the mushiness becomes less of a problem then and it’s a very cheap and filling meal
I really love Pampa Sardines in Tomato Sauce from the dollar store. Comes in a large can. I havent had many brands to compare it to but I personally love it!
Hello from Norway o/ i just tried for first time deens straight from the can and with chopstick! it's amazing. I ate KO chilli sauce deens, they were good, and i had a feta cheese w/cilli snack pack on the side. it goes well together! Keep deening! o/
Lesson learned: buy quality sardines in extra-virgin olive oil, and if the mood strikes, add yer own hot sauce, mustard, marinara ... what have you. Leave the Dollar Tree sardines at the Dollar Tree.

@@squiginjrking Oscar are the best! Chicken of the sea sardines are good to and cheaper
@@skepticalmechanic yeah I like the hot sauce cots. Beach Cliff hot sauce ones are decent too.
@@squiginjrbeach cliff Louisiana hot sauce is better hot sauce than chicken of the sea Louisiana hot sauce in my opinion
You got lucky with that can of kippers.
I bought a few cans the other day, 3 out of 4 were filled with what can best be described as "fish mush".
And you're right.
They're way too salty.
Been wondering... Is that a cello behind you on the left? You rock a cello? A lot of music equipment surely you make music yeah?
It's a double bass, not a cello!
Yeah, I play the bass almost every day. It's been a while since I played out or jammed with anybody though, even besides the pandemic.
@@CannedFishFiles I bet you produce your own background sounds? I like it!
@@DJmicaiah Thanks, yeah, all the stuff that sounds like it was made by a guy in his bedroom is me.
Do you also like the original twilight zone?
@@comradeabby3141 yes, watched them all too ,at least all of the original series but newer interations too. Great writing, iconic as well.
I've tried most of the Beach Cliff sardine varieties and I actually prefer the ones packed in water. I think you should waste one more dollar and give them a try.
Haha, I bet I will.
OMG WE'RE OUTSIDE!!!
I feel like we really are experiencing Matthew Carlson in his natural habitat now. When is he going to upload a VR video of him eating some dines so I can become John Malkovich, I mean Matt Carlson.
Beachcliff is the equivalent of eating deenz out of a replicator. It's good, it checks all the boxes but there is still something missing.
I won't even go for Beach Cliff anymore, I've been spoiled. I finally tried Belas though! I'm about it! The ones with piri-piri oil are divine.
I love this channel oh my god
New to sardines here. I'm definitely gonna try some of the kipper snacks too
I love that I found this channel. Keep it up! Also, I'd love to see a canned fish tier list for maybe Ep. 50
I like to dump the hot sauce ones in some brown rice and mix it all up, the mushiness becomes less of a problem then and it’s a very cheap and filling meal
I got too excited about the first time mustard flavored sardines and ran through the screen door....again.
The herring is my favorite. It has the smokey flavor that I like.
These videos are getting better and better
I grew up eating beach cliff sardine sandwiches. Mustard sauce were the ones so ate with my dad.
I really love Pampa Sardines in Tomato Sauce from the dollar store. Comes in a large can. I havent had many brands to compare it to but I personally love it!
Those are the exact kippers I get. I love the smoke and salt
The best random RUclips rabbit hole yet.
Hello from Norway o/ i just tried for first time deens straight from the can and with chopstick! it's amazing. I ate KO chilli sauce deens, they were good, and i had a feta cheese w/cilli snack pack on the side. it goes well together! Keep deening! o/
Very happy to have a Norwegian watching, thank you!
I grew up on all Beach Cliff sardines, I enjoy them with white saltines
You are the Steve1989 of sardines.
Love your content. You’re the best
Lesson learned: buy quality sardines in extra-virgin olive oil, and if the mood strikes, add yer own hot sauce, mustard, marinara ... what have you. Leave the Dollar Tree sardines at the Dollar Tree.
Beach Cliff with mustard was my first sardine, haven't had them since I was little.
Your hair just keeps getting longer. I LOVE it
This channel needs to explode. Love this stuff...and I don't even like sardines.
It is. Mustard has vinegar in it,breaks stuff down.🤔
