    This video worked perfectly for my 2010 Malibu. I changed both of the solenoids this morning, Only thing with mine was that the Ecotec cowling on top was harder to get off, but if you lift it from the back first, the front will start coming loose. Excellent video lastmoto777, thanks.

    Thanks so much! My 2009 cobalt was running slightly rough at times (particularly a rough idle) and giving code P0010. I replaced both the intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valves and that fixed it. The parts were GM 12655421 and 12655420 for my vehicle (2.2 L ecotec engine, 2009 cobalt)

    just to add:
    P0010 & P0011 Intake valve
    P0013 & P0014 Exhaust valve
    but we always just replace both also once any of these codes appear since these are relatively high failure rate parts. Note that the 11 & 13 codes can also be an issue in their respective wiring harnesses.

      OK.. I cant give you an accurate answer for that one... This is a list of the possible causes of that code
      Causes may include: Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear Misalignment of timing belt/chain Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken Bad crank sensor Bad cam sensor Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged An improperly torqued crankshaft balancer A mis-built or mis-timed engine A loose or missing crankshaft balancer bolt The CMP actuator solenoid stuck open The CMP actuator stuck in a position other than 0 degrees
      That list is from GM

      I think they are trying to sell you a cam position sensor. That is the wrong part, you need a exhaust or intake cam position actuator solenoid . • @jorseirer
    @jorseirer 9 лет назад

    Did you notice any noise when this code came up? Over a year ago, I had this error code in my Pontiac G6 with 2.4 l Ecotec. By the time I got it into the dealer, the check engine light had dismissed itself and there was apparently no codes. Later on I started to notice a kind of knocking noise, it honestly kind of sounds like a small diesel engine, thats the best way I can describe the sound. It only makes said noise when 1.) The engine is warm at normal running temp. 2.) the car is coasting, coming to a stop. 3.) The car is traveling anywhere from 10 to 20 MPH. All 3 of these conditions have to be met for the noise to happen. When coming to a stop, if it is making the noise, once I get right below 10 MPH, the noise immediately cuts off. The super specific rules for reproduction made it a nightmare for the tech at the dealer to even hear it, so I stared taking detailed notes of when it happened. When I finally got it to reproduce for the tech, he had no idea what was wrong. His computer said that the timing chain actuator was increasing and decreasing properly, there are no codes and no check engine light. He even brought it up at some sort of convention and the only advice he received was to drive another car just like it and see if it made the same noise... it didn't. My car has made this noise for months and it is driving me nuts that no body has any idea on what is wrong with it.
    After the tech told me there was nothing wrong with it, I asked for it in writing so that if the engine blew up, they would be responsible... no such luck. The worst part is, it started one month after warranty expired, and I know I could of got a goodwill fix out of it, but now being over a year later, I'm sure it's on me.
    Sorry for the long post, but any help or advice you have is extremely appreciated.

    • @solutionone3777

      If your mechanically inclined you can do the job yourself.. It consists of removing the valve cover. The part itself is right around 60 bucks.. You should you decide to do it yourself a very very close attention to the timing works because everything has to go on exactly how you took it off. If you take it in the job should cost around $300

      You're a rockstar Mike Desj! What makes me really mad, is when I took it in to Mr. Goodwrench under warranty, I suggested they look at the timing chain and I was told (without them looking at it at all) that wasn't what it was. In fact the dealer (again without looking, just listening and checking for codes) told me my car was fine and just to drive it. Funny though, they wouldn't sign an affidavit to the fact.

    Are the wire harnesses different for each unit? .I've noticed on RockAuto one has a rectangle wire harness and the other has a mushroom shaped. I'm assuming that is so they don't get mixed up.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 лет назад

      I think there is probably is a difference, but both valve plugs are oval shaped and very similar. Thats why I did them one at a time to ensure no mix up. anyway good luck with it.

Sometimes my car will lose power for a couple seconds then will drive ok after a bit ran a diagnostic an this shows up do u think that this could be the reason my car won't start after sitting overnight? How long does this take to do for both? I have no way to do it myself but, if going to a dealer, I don't want to be overcharged for maybe 10 mins of labor.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 лет назад

      The dealership will charge for labor according to what their computer says the time should be. If for example it says 45 minutes, that's what they will charge you for, plus parts.I don't think it should take more than an hour for both.I encourage you that if you have any friend or family member with some tools to do it yourself. That will be the most inexpensive way possible.Order your parts online. ( they will always be less expensive that way.) I use GMPARTSIRECT.com . Whatever you do ,good luck with that Rebecca.

    • @yay4meluigi
      @yay4meluigi 8 лет назад

      That makes sense. We did the exhaust solenoid tonight on my friend's Chevy HHR. When we pulled it out, it was caked with metal shavings. We pulled the Intake one out as well because of what we found and it too was caked in metal shavings. I did some research and it sounds like these 2.4L GM engines are basically time bombs. My buddy only has something like 140k on the engine. It's very sad.
      Great video, and thank you for the response to my comment.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 лет назад +1

      Your car will run better. The variable timing will be able to adjust as it gets input from the computer. Depending on how poorly the one you have is functioning there can be a small difference to a huge difference ( like ours). I could really notice the change. It felt like new again to me. Either way at least the engine will be functioning properly ! Good luck with that.
