All lead vocals by Brian except: 1. Tag of Wouldn't it Be Nice (Mike Love) 2. Thats Not Me (mostly Mike Love w/Brian when in a higher key) 3. Sloop John B (Mike Love on 2nd and 3rd verse) 4. God Only Knows (Carl Wilson) 5. I Know There's an Answer (Mike Love opening line, Al Jardine middle line, Brian on the chorus) 6. Here Today (Mike Love)
Greatest album of all time in my opinion. What young people don’t get is the production wasn’t made on a computer. Each noise was what Brian heard in his mind. He had to figure out how to make that sound for the album. Brian Wilson is the Goat
No samples... no pitch correction... no replacement of individual notes with recording software... no sexual content... no violence... no hatred... no synths... no programmed digital drums... done with a 4-track tape recorder... all real instruments... key changes (never done in rock/pop music)... 3 brothers, a first cousin, and a good friend from high school. The Beatles tried to copy them, unsuccessfully. The instrument on You Still Believe In Me is a piano, playing the strings on the inside with a guitar pick. Unbelievable melodies along with harmonies. Not Bee Gee-like at all. Totally different type of harmonies and songs. This music is still way ahead of where we are now. Brian is called the Mozart of our lifetimes.
The Beach Boys became very famous because of their surfin and car hits... and they were forced to play them in concert through eternity... but the real music came after all of that. Capitol Records wouldn't promote their newer music. Wasn't commercial enough.
The great Paul McCartney calls God Only Knows the greatest song ever written. Sleigh bells are used to provide some rhythm. Brian has said that the song came to him from God... and that he wrote the whole thing in four minutes. I tend to believe him.
@@truthtransistorradio6716 I've seen that look before when trying to play a song or band to someone...either you never try to introduce someone to new music or everyone loves your music
@@johndoe-cb5ck There are other options there. She is hearing Pet Sounds for the first time. Because it is not the catchiest music, it often takes time to grow on people. I wasn't the biggest fan of the album at first either. While she may not have been blown away by the music, she probably enjoyed being in a podcast.
Many, many publications rank Pet Sounds as the #1 album of all-time. Rolling Stone has it at #2 behind Marvin Gaye's 'What's Goin On.'
The instrument at the beginning of “I Know There’s an Answer” is not a Sax, it’s a Bass Harmonica.
It's called melancholy. Most of the album. It tugs at your heart. The genius of Brian Wilson.
