    The device played by Mike Love (beard) is an electro-theremin, a device intended to reproduce the sound of a theremin but make it more controllable by direct touch rather than hand movements. 👍

    • @wolfgangwolf6060
      @wolfgangwolf6060 5 месяцев назад

      I have read so many comments that the device was a theremin. I knew that was wrong because the player was touching it. a couple of days ago I decided to research this. Besides electro-theremin the device can be referred to as a "tannerin" - named after the inventor.

    One of The Beach Boys' many, many masterpieces. The production, harmonies, and soundscapes are just so rich and complex. Completely paved the way for decades of later pop music. Pet Sounds is often in the conversation for the greatest album of the rock era. Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are two of the most beautiful, most perfect songs ever written. This particular song was released on the album after Pet Sounds that Brian Wilson had intended to be his magnum opus that was never finished as intended (the released album Smiley Smile was initially a flop, but has since become an influential critical and cult favorite). Still, this song stands as a testament to what could've been.

    The theremin was an early electronic synthesizer and had been used a lot in b-movie sci-fi and horror flicks as a spooky sound effect. The Beach Boys took it and used it to create hauntingly beautiful and psychedelic sounds. Good Vibrations was actually the second time they used it in a song. The first was slightly earlier on their seminal album Pet Sounds on a track called I Just Wasn't Made For These Times. A more sombre reflective tune and completely different from this one...

    Technically they used an Electronic Theremin, which is not a pure Theremin because (as you can see) they touch it. No physical contact is actually made with the instrument when playing a pure Theremin.
    As for singing like a Theremin, people think the theme for the Original StarTrek was done on a Theremin, but it was actually an opera soprano named Loulie Jean Norman who sang 'the Theremin' part. In some later episodes they cut her part to save royalties payments but later restored her voice to the theme.

Some classical recordings requiring a Theremin (film scores) used a woman to create the sound. You are one GREAT Theremin! My soundtrack label employed a real one when we recorded a classic sci-fi score. We should have hired you.

    This must be an extended version or album version. It's definitely not the radio version. Am I wrong?

    My god, but you are absolutely cute as a button. Your facial expressions as you react to the song are wonderful. And the fact that you can imitate the sound of the instrument is just crazy.

    At the time of recording, this was the most expensive song recorded due to all the over dubs. Many say this was the birth of Progressive Rock.

    You've heard the Theremin a thousand times, it's pretty much the main instrument in the origins Star Trek theme song.

    The Beach Boys did "California Girls", the Mamas and Papas did "California Dreaming"

    Seriously, add I can go the theramin part from Good Vibrations to your resume / showcase-option as a fun "look what i can do". If the hiring person is over, say, 40 they will instantly know what you are talking about and I can only imagine it would be a positive nudge in what they think of you. :)

    As if you weren't cool enough, now your a Theremin. You go girl!! They also did more than a couple songs about street racing and the southern Ca. car culture which i was apart of more than surfing. Great group, great music.

    That's why the title is " Good Vibration " as i can see you feel the vibration in the song nice . Your dress goes very well with the beach boys , kind of California beach dress .

    That instrument is a theremin, it uses electromagnetic fields to generate sound

    None of the guys in the Beach Boys photo you show are actual members of the band, The are probably a ' Tribute Band ' Tribute Band definition: A group of musicians who would never make it as themselves.
