How many miles was that and how much elevation gain? Did you have cyclocross tires on? I've found when it gets real bumpy that drop bars, when riding on the hoods, can jar out of your hands and be a bit difficult to grab brake sometimes. Anyone else have that problem or suggestions?
As it was my first proper ride on the Fargo, I guess I felt a bit more secure riding on the hoods. Braking and shifting is a bit easier that way too I think, but I have to say that I haven't really tried this route in the drops. I'll try that next time!
JBHD Thanks. I've found a good way to start is being in the drops for uphills first. It keeps you from getting that feeling of being too far forward. That said, it didn't really seem to hinder you in the rougher bits. If it's working, keep it up.
Jesse Foust I know that in my limited experience riding my CX bike on singletrack that the drops just feel uncomfortably far from the levers. Maybe that sensation will fade as a gain confidence.
Curious how those wood chippers would do on my Surly Troll
Im glad you know where you're going...lol.
Where's the trail? It looks like a lot of fun!
It is fun! It's in the south of the Netherlands.
would this kind of bicycle be able to handle bumpier, rockier, rootier stuff better than a pure cyclocross bicycle?
You can't compare the two. A cyclocross bike is basically a road bike with fatter/nobbier tires, the Fargo is a mountainbike with fixed fork.
What tires? Seems to handle trails really well.

I'm not sure how many miles/elevation gain. I think I was running stock mountainbike tires at that time: Schwalbe Rapid Rob's.
Cool
I notice you spend most of the time on the hoods rather than in the drops. Do you prefer the upright position, or is it something else?
