After our insane adventure camping at the Atlanta Motor Speedway with NASCAR (that episode is here if you missed it: • WILL OUR 2500 DURAMAX ... ), we headed to Elkhart, Indiana, to get some work done on our rig and most importantly to get our torn floor fixed from when we were in Idaho.
The giant tear in the floor was our fault because of sitting on the couch while the slide was in and that caused a screw to break and catch the floor when the slide went out. The only option was to replace the entire floor. More on that process next week!
Luckily, our friends at Lippert kept us busy with a fun project while we were there!
Stay tuned for the next episode to see how the RV turns out! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!

YIKES guys!!! that is crazy!!!
It was pretty nuts but we are so happy with how it came out and excited to share our finished renovation soon! It is like a brand new RV!😊
Rise n Roll on St Rd 20 between Middlebury and LaGrange. Next time you’re in the area.
RIse N Roll is great as well! It think we have determined that we are pastry/filled donut people so Essenhaus has more of the kinds of donuts we like!
Love, love, love your positive attitudes...taking time to help others out in the midst of your busy project speaks to who ya'll are! And it really was an opportunity to redo and restart fresh! We spent a week in a hotel in Elkhart a couple years ago while doing a solar upfit on our TT and can honestly say it's a great day when you move back into your rig!! Be well!
It was a fun adventure but going back home is always the best!!
On 2 tire set ups hve 1 shock face slightly forward & other slightly lean back. 1 slightly lean outer & other slightly inward. 1 rebounding up, other rebounding down. Then on opposite end top or bottom hve shock hve "recessed" trampoline type effect. So a shock sitting in line w/spring, type open ended open section that has 4 0r 5 ish tiny small springs 3" or less connected to an end of the shock damper or emergency extra travel.
Normal travel trailers are designed for a two week vacation plus another 8-10 weekends per year or about 34 nights use per year. Each year you subject your trailer to 10+- years worth of wear and tear.. That being said, this slid issue being the first major issue, in over three years of on the road use, is a demonstration to the quality and workmanship of Grand Design.
We have been very happy with how our RV has held up and we attribute a lot of that to the build quality of Grand Design, but there is also an element of how the RV is cared for as well. How it is driven, how weight is distributed throughout the RV, etc. And this issue with the slide was our fault not anything to do with the build of the rig. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I ripped our floor last year. I cut it all out and replaced it with vinyl plank. It was NOT FUN to do, but really wan not too bad to do. Lots of angles to cut. It came out really good though. Adds a bit of weight, but not a crazy amount. I am hoping it stands up OK the cold winters here in Massachusetts. Time will tell.
So glad you are getting the entire floor replaced. Our very full Berkey fell off the counter of our travel trailer and the floor will never be as good again. It will be great for you to move back in with a new floor.
So sorry to hear about your floor! We are excited to show everyone the finished product!
It's so nice how you give back to the community it teaches the girls important values. Those donuts looked amazing. Can't wait to see the RV when it is all done.🙂🇨🇦❤👍
It is very important to us that our girls know the value of hard work and giving back so we wanted to have that as part of our travels whenever we can!
In floor panel add in floor outlet for powering diff furniture set up/layout. Or in floor floor safe box again so u don't hve to move out just repair.
She will be beautiful when totally done. I'm surprised you had to remove the couches yourself. When we had maintenance on our rig the company fixing our rig removed the heavy stuff. Then again, our stuff was put in their garage next to where things were being worked on. And well that's not a good thing because the stuff gets dirty. Good thing there was a nice storage unit for your personal items. You mentioned, if the warehouse was taller you could put your rig in there for storing. We lucked out, found a storage facility where you can store rigs and boats inside or outside. We rented a warehouse 14 feet by 40 feet. This saved us, we don't have to worry about sun, hail or water damage. The only problem, it's 45 minutes from home. Our goal, eventually store the rig at home once we can get a pad in, and roof protection.
Can't wait to see your finished rig. Donuts with a view......NOT FAIR!!!! Where's ours? LOL!!! Have fun!
You just wait until you see! The full renovation will be up soon! And they didn't have the space for all of our stuff and we didn't want it sitting in the shop. We would rather move it ourselves and store it in a clean place, so we were more than happy to do it ourselves! Glad you guys found such a great place to store you rig! And those donuts are amazing!
@@FindingOurSomeday Okay, I will patiently wait to see the reveal😊 Hugs to y'all, see you Sunday (video)
Wow that is a lot of stuff.
The repairs you are having done fits perfectly into your remodel. Hope you had them eliminate the carpet under the couch.
It was a lot but worth every minute for the job to be done well by Grand Design! Carpet removal couldn't be fit on this time but it is on the list!
One of the many things we love most about y'all is how you roll with the punches! Y'all are just the best!!
Thanks, guys! We sure try to!😃
Glad 😊 😃 to see 👀 🙏 🙌 your getting it taken care of. We will be waiting for more adventures.
Thank you for being here with us!
almost like a .5 acre of land is needed in the town where the factory resides where these repairs are done. Live in a rental rv on the .5 acre while RV is repaired
That is a great idea!
well thats why it good to have a dubble cab truck to pull the trailer
. At least you have a place to sleep out of
the weather when there is a major problem with the trailer !
First and foremost we are happy Lily and everyone is happy and well. Knowing it was a tough situation from the beginning, you held true to your belief that everything can be fixed. Further you guys didn't let it get you down, even went ahead and advanced your mission to give back when and where you can. You guys are inspirational in your caring for others even while facing your own situations Thank You.
Thank you! We are as well! And we are so grateful that we were able to have Grand Design do it at the factory and do it correctly. Thanks for being here with us guys! It means so much!
One good thing, it looked like that storage shed was pretty clean. Sometimes you find these storage units really dirty from the previous user!
The storage faculty and unit were super clean! It was a great experience! Thanks for watching!
2nd option is a work out mini tramp recessed under patched floor hidden away random spot in floor talking pnt or Grover idea.
Start a new trend w/cut out for infloor RV flower secure pot, or in floor mirror patch floor sq.
So lucky that you have to option of going right to GD for the repairs. You put a screen shot that you sat on the couch with the slide in and that caused the screw to pop? We do that as well when we've been waiting for a ferry and you can't put the slide out. Is that something you shouldn't do? Glad Lilly is over her attitude sickness.
Thankfully we already had planned to go up there for some work to be done with both Grand Design and Lippert. We did sit on the slide when in all the time when it was the dinette, but our custom couch is heavy and has different weight points on it. We usually would put it out just a couple inches so the floor of the slide would rest on the floor of the RV and the weight wouldn't be pulling on the side of the walls. I forgot and sat on the couch. I heard the usually pops and groans but didn't remember to check when we put the slide out. Totally my fault. It popped one of the screws and the screw head caught the floor. We won't forget again! 😉
It's a sad thing, and such a newer travel trailer that you have to replace the floor, I guess older is better, we bought a 2002 brand new, toy hauler and I'm barely replacing the floor 20 years later, and every thing still works.
I called grand design to schedule a repair on my 2020 solitude 5th wheel ( second one we've owned ). They didn't want to help. Selective customer service is a thing.
They ignored you, or couldn’t fit you in the schedule at the time you hoped for? I know they were crazy busy all last year. Are you under warranty still? I completely agree, customer service is definitely selective, it’s all how you approach a situation.
@@FindingOurSomeday Said they would call back, never did. Fixed issue myself. Out of warranty by a couple of months, have extended warranty. We full time as well so our schedule is super flexible.
Isn't it amazing how much you can fit in a trailer? I feel your pain! That bakery is the best - been there several times and couldn't resist the pies... Oh boy they were good!
It is absolutely crazy! And we love Essenhaus!
You could have cut a piece of flooring out from under a cabinet or bed to splice in at the tear.
In floor dolly cut out w/removable wheels, patch any where u need a fix, that's the best option.
U hve a pretty dolly patch on 1 side then flip over after pulling out & bottom is super Grover dolly best attach wheels back on, w/sand wide tires.
Sorry about your floor. I saw that video and was so devastated for you. But maybe the perfect opportunity to go through stuff and see what you don't need or use. Maybe finish the renovation while it's empty???
Next time you’re in Elkhart area…must try Rise n Roll donuts. Put a smile on your face (while increasing odds for diabetes).
We have been there, they are good! For the type of donuts we like we prefer Essenhaus though😃
I spent a night in a hospital while tripping through Arizona doing what Lilly did. Except I was sitting down at a rest stop on a mountain pass after visiting Tombstone. Never did get to eat that sandwich!
So sorry to hear this! Glad you were ok and hope you get back to that sandwich SOMEDAY!
@@FindingOurSomeday Since that was last May, that sandwich is long gone! But there will be more down the road.
Wow, what a process. I hope we never have to do that. I think perhaps we have the same floor with our 2016 GD 5th Wheel.
I hope not either but we are so glad that they did it the right way. The RV looks amazing!
I hear that... one guy, one dog , a 24 foot RV, too much stuff. You ditch some stuff, and then replace it... Liked the service project and the giving back idea growing to other areas for the community to participate. Been a long time since I heard and echo in my rig. Safe journey! Dave
We love following your adventures. You’re our new favorites.
Welcome to Elkhart Indiana where we live when not traveling. We live in the Country side with farm across the road from us.
Famous saying for Indiana is “there’s more then corn in Indiana” to which my hubby says “yup there’s also soybeans 😂”.
We hope to run into you on a road trip.
We love driving through the farm land there! Such a beautiful place to live! Hope to see you out here SOMEDAY!
So August of 2020 my travel trailer went in the shop for water damage that caused our floor to rot, and also hail damage to one side of the trailer. We didn’t get it back until February 2021 and was in a hurry and overly excited about getting it back, the next day we notice that there was several tears and the new linoleum. We finally got to take it back two weeks ago to get new flooring in the second time. We still probably won’t get it back for another two weeks. So I hope you guys have better luck than us.
I'm so sorry to hear about the delay in getting your rig back. We know so many friends who went through the same thing during covid when dealing with various dealers because of the lack of parts and labor available and so many people hitting the road. I hope your rig is back soon and that the floor doesn't tear again!
We got our rig back and they put in the wrong flooring!!! 🤦🏼😂 so for exchange they didn’t charge to install our LED awning lights.
I love that you guys serve the communities that you are visiting. You make this world a better place! God bless.
Oh my I'm textless . I don't know what to text. That was interesting what the trailer looks like empty. 200 pounds of down sizing that is 50 pounds each. That will be interesting what each of you through out. Oh and that size weight slip in was so cool. And how it was ignored. And it had to mentioned. Cool move. He thought he got away with lol. Have a great week. Have fun. 🇨🇦Ontario
It was exciting to get rid of so much! And I don't get away with much of anything! 😂
We hope to be full timers in about 18 months. One of our concerns is what we would do if we have to have a major repair a long way from home with 5 kitties on board. Enjoying ya’lls videos!
Been rving since 2000... had a cat, a dog, and an African Grey parrot. Best advice: honestly, get rid ofv them all. Our dog died at once, we gave the cat and bird to willing relatives.
A life on the road needs freedom. Animals constrict your life. Just my 83 year old opinion. Love your travel companion.
Traveling with animals is definitely a different kind of traveling as your animals need your RV to stay cool or warm throughout the day when you are gone unlike ours. As much as we love animals, Jess and Leila are very allergic to most furry creatures, so that hasn't been a part of this lifestyle for us. The other thing to be thinking about is the places that you might want to visit where animals are not allowed like at most National Parks. As far as having a major repair, there are hotels that allow animals and there are times where the best option is to stay with family who have the ability to take you and your animals. That is what we have been told by others. WE wish you all the best as you plan to hit the road!
@@FindingOurSomeday I did not know that about National parks. That will definitely effect where we go. Thanks!
Such great parents and great girls. Love your family. Can hardly wait to see you all each week. So glad Lilly is feeling better.
Thank you so much for joining us each week! We really appreciate it! And thank you for thinking of Lily!
The last photo of your rv, just wow.
That's how we felt, too! 😳
Ok so now i am freaked out because we just bought a new rv last sept. New to this whole thing.
@@musimowingmoreinc9031 don’t be freaked out. Just try not to sit on the slides when they are in (especially by the ends) and Just sweep before you pull your slides in and you will be fine😃
Wow having to empty everything I'm sure was a pain in the Tookus 😁 but I do love putting everything back ❤ It is so satisfying to me !! Safe Travels guy's 💙
Looking forward to sharing how it all went back together! Thanks for watching!x
bummer
Much better now though!
Das Essen Haus is good but Rise and Roll is definitely better. The cinnamon rolls are to die for.
We have tried Rise and Roll, but I think we are more pastry people than straight donut people! We love all the fillings! 😉
That look at the end was the same as mine! OMG!
It was crazy to see our home look like that!
Its great seeing you help out in the community and as a family too. Take care and have a great week. ❤❤🇬🇧
It has always been important to us that the girls learn the value of hard work and giving back. So when we hit the road we were excited to find ways to add that into our travels!
244: if not up grading or changing cabinet lay out I would not bother, just make it look like axxes panel, why it did not match.
If going w/tile fake good & lighter than ok, or heated floors or fake wood or no way till turning in changing rigs. Or till major work being done any way.
Hope it comes out nice.
Excited to share!
Your shot of the Amish carriage reminded me of some thing. I drove behind one in our RV and when it was safe to do so past barely going faster than a horse took a little video and a still photo. When I got to an Amish grocery type store I asked him about photos because I vaguely remembered some thing. They don’t like their photos taken they truly believe that it is stealing their soul. Now I don’t know if that applies to the buggy or the horse or not but just thought I’d share!
Maybe it's just me and I noticed this when it got torn , that vinyl seemed really thin almost like wallpaper . I used to own a 33' Terry Taurus bunkhouse model but didn't have it long enough to repair any flooring so I've only done home building and repair , I lived in it with my wife and 2 very young kids for 2 years while I built a house in my spare time . I guess it makes sense to make everything as light as possible I just didn't realize it went that far . Hope it all works out for you and you find another 200 lbs to get rid of , maybe pump helium into the trailer for travel ha ha then everyone would be talking funny at the first stop . I meant that as a joke but in reality if you could afford the helium you could lose roughly 60 pounds if you were hauling helium instead of air , just for grins I did the calculation but it would leak like a sieve LOL
The vinyl they use is normal thickness but when the screw caught the vinyl, it stretched it super thin before it ripped. That is probably why it looked like that. We have been super impressed with how durable the flooring before and after the rip has been! And getting rid of weight was awesome!
I thinks it's awesome you guys jump right in to do community help. It's good you are getting your floor fixed. Things like that can drive you crazy every time you look at them.
It's crazy what you guys had to do unloading the entire trailer! I'm impressed!
It was well worth it!
Great video! I know how you feel of being put out if your home(Rv). I’ve been put out of my house for two months almost three. Our water tank broke then the bathroom leaked. They are finally going to work on the house this week. It’s a crazy mixed up reason why it’s taking so long. You don’t have that much stuff really when you think about it. Glad you will be back in after two weeks. I’m glad Lily is doing ok. Hope you got everything fixed. Are you back in your home? Have a great day and see you all soon!
GOOD. LUCK GUYS
Thank you! 🙏
De-cluttering is so satisfying!!
I’m sure you had so much fun moving back into your “house”!!!!
Those donuts look AMAZING 🤩
The donuts looked amazing.
Essenhaus in Middlebury has some amazing donuts! Inexpensive as well 😎
Sorry had to wait to watch after the super bowl. Yay! Finally some donuts! Loved the video as always.
No worries! Thanks so much for watching!
Looks like Happily Ever Hanks you parked next to (at 3:35) when they had their tree damage fixed? 🤔😂
We wish! We would have loved to have been able to hang out with them while our rig was in the shop! We just missed each other!😊
I would hate to have to empty my trailer! Even though it's only a 22ft tear drop (Little Guy Max), it has a bunch of stuff in it!!!
We usually empty everything once a year for a good sorting and cleaning! It always feels great when it is nice and clean!
Corey's face at the end! Totally my reaction! What in the world is going on! They're tearing my house apart!
Ya why pay a hotel just set up the storage and shower at the camp ground and use a generator for power.
I had to send my Jayco back to the factory in Indiana. We had to remove everything from the rv. What a pain. I feel for you guys.
Talking about unloading weight, we have western swing to Tetons, Yellowstone back thru Devils Tower, Custer ect... . We are shedding lots of items from the our trailer, running lean and mean. We realize this is a different style of camping ! Its not like when you set up for a week in one spot and we won't be hanging around the camper lots during the day. Not gonna over do the sightseeing but not wasting time while were there either. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated on obscure sites to see or things or places to visit including of the beaten path places to eat, drink and be merry. We can't wait!! We will let you know how much weight we drop.
Wow that's a lot like work.
It was a busy few days , that’s for sure! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Too bad you could not have found the same model that was wrecked and you could have gotten the same flooring for a patch. Just wondering if they could have found a patch big enough under a cabinet or bed that could have been used. Kinda like a skin graft but a vinyl graft.
Great video as always! We had the slide on our 2021 Momentum 397th rip the floor during our trip to Sheridan and Glacier this past summer. She is in the shop getting some minor warranty work and the floor fixed. Looking forward to getting her back shortly for the start of camping season.
So sad you had to move out. So fun! Thats for sharing! Hugs to all!
Great video!
Thank you!
Wow...lot of work. Praying for you all. Blessings
I always over pack you just don't know what you may need. I'm shocked how much stuff you actually had in the trailer.
Same with Jess! We were a little shocked as well!
Your faces at the end were awesome 😎
It was a little shocking to see it gutted like that! 😳
I'm so glad I live and travel in a 2000 Monaco Dynasty. I sure hope I never have to move out of it for any repairs. I'm 2000 lbs under gross weight so I'm not taking the weight challenge. I like my stuff. 😁
me too in my 2001 Monaco Diplomat, 137,000 miles.
It was well worth it to get it done correctly and get everything tightened back up better than ever! And we are definitely jealous of your weight capacity! 💪
There are major differences in his and my Monaco Class A coaches and your 5th wheel. Ours really better if only 2 people.... your truck and 5th wheel fit your family.... glad each exists. Class A's just easier for 2 people... washer/drier, king bed, split bath, etc. and not having to stop to use the toilet for our passenger... or in the rain... plus the air bag ride and driver's chair are so much more comfortable. Btw, we tow a 4 door, 4x4, 1500HD Silverado, carry 2 Golden Buzzaround Mobility scooters and my Trek bike. Great additional storage capacity.... once in CA we sent home about 500#, not 50. Put it on a pallet and shrink wrapped it. Satellite tv as we drive down the road required pulling a hidden fuse. A neat thing long before today's cell phones. Enjoy.
Grand design…….quality built….gotta love customer loyalty!
When we watched the episode where this initially happened, we could feel your pain! Our fireplace just stopped working so we’re in the midst of figuring that out. 😅
So sorry to hear about your fireplace! Hope it gets figured out soon! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I'm confused, it's February in Northern Indiana, definitely NOT shorts weather.
Ayep, have to agree about that metallic silver paint color. 😁 It's good to see Grand Design is taking care of things for ya.
looking forward to see the repair!
We’re excited to share, thank you !
Have you guys ever went to Rise & Roll? It’s down by Elkhart. Best caramel cinnamon doughnuts ever.
We have been there, they are good! For the type of donuts we like we prefer Essenhaus though😃
@@FindingOurSomeday we’ve never tried them but are camping for a rally I. September and we will try it.
Its 12° out side right now I wouldn't be in any hurry to come back
Oh my gosh you guys I feel like I'm right there with you through this hang in there
Sitting on your couch with the slide in should never cause a screw to go into your floor. The manufacturer used the wrong screws obviously too long or that screw was removed and replaced too far in.
If it would not have interfered with the slide I would have considered going back with an engineered wood floor instead of vinyl.
I'm thinking paint while it's gutted!
The donuts in the top box were so big, my husband said that would take 50 lbs so off the RV! 😂
Great video and thanks for sharing! I'm curious... You said the screw came down when you sat on the couch when the slide was in? And that is what caused the issue? We sit on our couch slide all of the time when it's in; when we pull over for a break. My entire couch is on the slide.... Did they tell you that is what caused it?
Didn’t miss it this week!
Good to see you 😎
speaking of school... what curriculum/ on line program does your girls use? Our Daughter and her family are getting ready to go full time and they have 2 middle and high school daughters.
We use many different curriculums for various subjects for the girls. Have your daughter send Jess an email through our website: www.findingoursomeday.com and she can send her what we use! Thanks for watching!
You guys can even make the mundane fun! Glad the "baby" is now fixed! (And we have that much stuff when we go to visit Disney for a week! LOL! But the kids LOVE the carts!)
You can't go stay somewhere for any period of time with a family without having TONS of stuff!
If that was me and they had to pull the slide anyways I would have had them remove the gas/electric fridge and replace it with a new 12v fridge
Keep watching! 😉
Great video team, and your positive attitudes help you overcome obstacles. I hear you on the weight loss, we have gone from a TT to a FW and I am pretty sure my wife feels she needs to fill every space that exists. I guess I will toss items while she is distracted.
I knew there was NO way any married man would tell his wife she needs to go on a diet, especially on video!! I knew what he meant. Way to hang in there together thru all of this!
😂 Definitely talking about the RV not Jess!
@@FindingOurSomeday Big difference between having an RV and living in an RV!
Awesome elevator music!
That was a funny trip up to our room!
Nice video. Would love to cross paths someday and meet you all. Keep an eye out on a friend of ours in nascar, Haley Deegan. She will be a top contender one day, guaranteed! We also love KYD. Y'all are awesome. Keep the great videos coming. Stay Safe out there. Peace.
Thank you so much for watching and joining us on our journey! We will be watching out of Haley! And Marc and Trish are awesome!
That's a lot of stuff. But it's stuff you need. Right? The RV looks like a show floor apartment now when it's empty.
You're so adorable guys. Love your positive energy.
Thanks so much for watching and joining us on our journey!
I can't imagine sitting on the sofa with the slide in damages anything. Don't people do that all the time? Quick rest stop?
50 pound challenge? I have clothes in the closet I've never worn! Hotel room? Unlimited hot water!!!
We did do it all the time when it was the dinette, but our custom couch is heavy and has different weight points on it. 😉
Im sure itll be a huge difference once yall get it back
Not sure if you mentioned this or not.....Is Grand Design performing this under warranty? i am curious of their customer service.
Our RV is a 2018 and no longer under GD’s warranty.
Totally off subject to anything in this video but…I’m so impressed with the amount of things y’all can do in flip flops and slightly jealous 😆 Come on…moving a couch out of an RV going backwards down stairs…I most definitely would’ve ended this video in an ER 😂
Probably not always safe but we are always in flip flops, especially me! I even wore them to walk my mother-in-law down the aisle this summer! 😂
I spent most of my pre 40’s in flip flops…now I can’t seem to make it out the door with them on without rolling my ankle 😂
When we travel without our rig and stay in hotels my bride fills up "her" luggage cart with more stuff than yours had, and that's for one night!
Can't wait to watch!
We're not travelling per se yet but, volunteer stuff in Va, specifically within 100 hundred miles of Richmond VA, we're up for it if you could send us pointers?
We tell everyone looking for volunteer opportunities to put themselves out there on social media and to friends and families. Most of our opportunities have come through word of mouth. We also look for non-profits in the areas where we will be traveling and then look up their Facebook or social media accounts to see if there are upcoming events that we might be able to help out with. Thank you for watching and for giving back! 🙌
-A empty Rv with no FOS what about donuts?
It was a sad day! But we definitely had donuts! 😉
