You guys have just majorly earned my respect here. I lost a brother when I was seven and then in my late twenties I took care of my sister, the closest person to me in my life, as she died at home with me from cancer at age 32. I know to a lot of people what I've just written will sound grim and not appropriate for sharing. I'm confident you know that what I'm sharing here grew things in me that I am so grateful for. Avoiding these things isn't an option and the payoff for facing them with love and care is invaluable. Credit to you for not shielding your children from your father's illness. In the light of death all things shine and this fact is now a part of their frame of reference. It's a gift. Thank you for sharing your story.

It isn’t inappropriate to share, being with someone as they die is a privilege. To care for someone before they transition to a new realm deserves respect. 💕

Awe man. My dad also passed away from ALS. I quit my full time job to stay home and be my dad’s caregiver along with my daughter who was 4 years old at the time. I was a daddy’s girl, such a difficult time. I was honored to be able to support my dad, and spend his last days with him. My husband (John) and I will be full time RVers in May 2022. Camping with my dad was one of my favorite memories, soon to create new memories with my husband. You both have inspired us to take the leap to be full timers. Now to learn your journey this far, we feel even more connected to you guys! Hope to meet ya one day! Thank you for your inspiration!!

Christie, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. It brings tears to my eyes reading how close our stories are. I was a daddy’s girl as well and though the 4 years I spent caring for him where some of the hardest of our life, I wouldn’t trade a second. I got to know him so much better than most will never know their parents and that was an incredible gift. I’m so glad your daughter was able to be with you during that time as well. So much is modeled before our children when they see us deal with hard and heavy things. We are so happy that you guys are out finding your own SOMEDAY and hope we get to meet you as well! Sending big hugs. 😊 - Jess

As new RVers, we were excited to find RUclipsrs from Maine. We started a video Marathon of your channel. As we watched your episodes coming back to Maine, we relived our experiences. We have not been there since 2017 and it was only for one weekend. We have a house just outside of Kennebunkport and have not lived in it since 2007. So your videos in Maine were special.
I will retire from the military next year and plan to RV full time for 6 months and head to our home in Maine. The sad thing and most disappointing thing you said in this video was your dismissive tone of Old Orchard Beach. 😾
I know Old Orchard Beach very well, since I grew up there and graduated from HS there. It has 7 miles of beautiful, smooth, clean beach and a great pier over the ocean. Palace Playland is a fun place to go with kids. Please be kind, your trash (my words, not yours) is my treasure. I look forward after over 40 years in the military to walk the clean beach of Old Orchard Beach at Sunrise.

I should have been more clear. These were recommendations for experiencing Maine. OOB is not necessarily something Maine specific . Unfortunately the OOB your used to is probably not the same(by the pier, I’m only referencing the pier area) . The last couple of times we were there (2017) there was a lot of trash, a lot of drug use, and the over all vibe didn’t inspire safety or relaxation, this was during the day. I don’t even need to mention at night what goes down. Thank you for your service, and congratulations on the upcoming retirement! I hope some things have changed since I was there last. We used to go there all the time in high school . I don’t mean to bash OOB , but if someone is there with limited time to experience “Maine” it’s honestly not something I would recommend . In my defense I also didn’t recommend people go to my hometown and go see Sebago Lake. It also is absolutely stunning . Where are you stationed now?

      @@FindingOurSomeday
I’m Stationed in the wonderful state of Texas.
I have family and friends who still live and work there. I agree that the country in general has many areas, to include tourist sites, that have been laden with drug abuse.
However, I respectfully disagree with your general comment about OOB, but that is ok. We all have different life experiences and each view it subjectively. C’est la vie.

I just watched this video. I found your channel a few weeks ago. I enjoy watching your videos. We have something in common, my Mom passed away with ALS. It is rare for a female to have it. I also was not working and spent as much time as I could with her and my son was 4 years old and can remember some time he spent with her. I’m so great full to have that time with her. Robin

Thanks for sharing your story, I lost my dad to cancer and he's the one who cultivated a love for the outdoors. My wife and I homeschooled our five children and we have no regrets because our journey has never stopped. I am blessed because I was able to retire relatively young and we moved south to Florida and we travel regularly, haven't convinced my wife to go full-time but we love our land cruises. I also loved seeing Nathan and Marisa join you!

I’m so sorry your dad and your family had to go through ALS. My brother passed away almost 9 years ago with ALS. He was diagnosed at only 49 and lived with it for 3 years. Thank the Lord he had 5 siblings to help take care of him. It was hard to watch him experience such a horrible disease. He was such a brave soul. I will cherish every day I had with him.
Maine is so beautiful and your photography is excellent. We hope to visit there one day soon. Take care.

Thank you for sharing about your dad. My wife died 3 years ago at the age of 62. It was 6 months from diagnosis to eternal life. Less than 1 year before Cindy's diagnosis we upgraded our camper and had plans to travel. It was not easy to go out the first time but every time I head out I am grateful for our camper as it has made it so much easier for me. Our first camper was a hybrid and the current camper is fully enclosed. Life is short, embrace it.

Tough one. Lost my brother who was 58 just 3 weeks ago. There's such comfort in looking back and knowing you did your best and that you were there for them. It makes you want to go out and really live your life for them. I agree about the Maine winters, I'm about ready to leave here for the winters but the hubby isn't ready yet. I love Maine. I climbed out on the rocks at Bass Harbor light in November. There was a wreath on the light. I had the place to myself, but I couldn't take the "perfect" picture because the light was wrong. There were deer in the parking lot. I went all the way to Eastport and took a boat ride to Machias Seal Island to see the Puffins. Sat in 'blinds' and the birds forget you're there and come back to within 15'. The tides at the Bay of Fundy were 25'. Yikes.

Great story, and it hits home. I'm 52. I retire at 53 in less than 18 months, hence my channel name. I lost my dad to cancer at the age of 73 about 10 years ago. What was left with my dad that he wasn't able to pass on to me is just priceless. But everything he did pass on to me is also priceless. But he worked right up until that short time in hospice. Thats how my family is, tough as nails. But i'm changing that. I'll be fully retired at 53. God bless you guys. Enjoy every moment. Don't blink. Sorry i got suttin in my eye.

Loved this video my wife and I love Maine we have only been there three times in our fifth wheel twice to Naples where we stayed on long lake my favorite thing was the loons I love listening to them in the evening. In 2019 we went to Acadia national park it was gorgeous it was October the fall colors were beautiful! I couldn’t have noticing the General Dynamics Bath Iron sweat shirt my wife and I worked at the General Dynamics Electric Boat sister plant down the road in Connecticut we live in Mystic Ct she retired in 2016 and I retired in 2020 Covid kept us home last year and my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer this year she has had surgery and is doing Chemotherapy we are praying we are able to get her back to full health and take the cross country trip we had planned for when we retired. Thanks for sharing your beautiful story loved every minute of it and God Bless you for being there for your father I know how tough that can be my mother had dementia and passed away in March of this year!

What a blessing that you and your family were able to give such precious moments to your dad. I have a good friend that passed of ALS and her family and friends were so incredibly supportive. It meant the world to her. We loved the overview of Maine. We have been a couple of times but not long enough to really enjoy the area. I have had a sailing trip along the coast of Maine on my bucket list for a very long time. Time to plan!!

He was so blessed to have such a loving family to make his going home so meaningful. God bless you all for such a testimony of love. Enjoy your time with family. It was so good meeting you guys at the meetup in this video. My (Ken) knee is finally doing better and I'm hiking again with Cathy & no more cane!!! We agree about Higgin's Beach...and all the other places you mentioned. Jesse's story about her dad and all that you guys did to help is so like you guys!!!! That's what makes you guys so real!!
Working on the house again to make her sellable (she needs some tlc) then hittin' the road fulltime!!
We are headed back to the Black Hills the end of June and hopin' to catch a Rodeo in Belle Fourche around the 4th.
No Grand Tetons & Yellowstone in one day like we did last year... We're going to savor that when we can stay for a month or so when we get our rig!!

Went to Bar Harbor over 30 years ago with our boys and an older pop-up camper. Wasn’t crazy about the campground but loved the park so much and the smaller towns and bays in the area. It was a flooding rain when we left and the road was under construction with a huge drop off between lanes. It was scary, couldn’t see a lot of the time and there was no way we could stop at LL Bean. Loved the lobster, we wen out on a lobster boat tour. Crazy to see lobster rolls at McDonalds. Best wishes.

One of my most favorite episodes yet. I remember you sharing your dads story previously and I was already in tears as you started to talk about him. Such a beautiful tribute to him and your family that you all are living. We fell in LOVE with the entire state of Maine when we were up there almost 2 years ago and we have so much of that to thank you for. You kindly shared so much of this info with me then too, when we messaged you to let you know we were headed there. Portland Headlight with Tonys donuts is one of our top Maine memories. It's too bad this FL/Hawaii girl couldn't handle the rest of the year (I was freezing even in August) because it sure ranked on the Hawaii level of beautiful sights and people for us. We've even discussed many times owning a cabin up there or just returning with the RV for summers when we are done traveling. Sending big hugs and lots of aloha!!!!

Nice to see you in your natural habitat- Maine. We are from NH and have been to many of the places you show, including Portland Harbor and Two Lights. We will be back in NH in Sept to visit family for 2 months before finding our way back to Az. Lobster Shack is always a favorite place. We started full timing in 2004 and have enjoyed rving ever since. A lot of the places you travel to we have been to also. We have found new places to go to because of the You Tubers we watch. Our first summer full timing was 5 months of fun and work in Bar Harbor. We were too young to retire. I thought I was going to die hiking the bee hive, but I made it. Thank goodness the trail down the backside was easy. Yes, Booth Bay is great but almost anywhere along the coast is great. Can’t wait to be back on the coast this Fall. Thanks for this video.

There is also Roosevelt Campabello, Maine Acadian culture, The Appalachian trail which runs through Baxter and Saint Croix Island, excellent place to see the tides.. We loved Maine. Ah and don't forget can't go to Maine without a trip to Marden's.

Excellent video you guys. I am so very sorry for your loss Lou Garrett's is such a horrible disease. My heart is with you I've also lost my dad...Thank you for everything about Maine which was wonderful and what I really appreciated is when you told me when the foliage is in full color. I lived in Baltimore for about 4.5 yrs late 90's and the last two weeks in October so Halloween the colors were just breathtaking. I've always wanted to do the drive up the entire East Coast all the way up into Canada and now I know WHEN to leave to catch all of it! My home state of Colorado is gorgeous also but I don't live there for the same reason we get about 3-4 month of gorgeous summer. And sure winter is great if you're into winter sports! But it lasts a good 8+ mo. not 6 like most places that are cold and snow. But personally I love Colorado in the summer just too short lived. I would always have to giggle to my family because the TV news in the fall would be going on about you've got to get up in the mountains and see the beautiful colors of the Aspens.. those clumps of scattered Aspen's I'm sorry Colorado but they just do NOT compare to the colors of the East Coast in the fall stunning! I loved Baltimore every fall I literally felt like I was living inside a postcard just walking out my front door 😆 Pictures just don't do them justice as in person!! As always safe and happy travels!💗

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. No matter the circumstance, losing a parent is so very hard. We hope you are able to get up to Maine soon and catch the foliage up there! It is definitely worth a trip and feels like you are in a post card!😉 - Jess
