This is one of the most beautiful and perfect piano concertos. And it's so vibrant and full of energy; written by a man who was 66 years old! Just incredible music which should be heard more often
It is really not an easy piece for the pianist, but also the difficulty isn't necessarily apparent to the audience. It's like the opposite of the Grieg concerto, which is easy for the piano but sounds hard as hell to those in the audience not in the know.
I hadn't heard this piece in decades. I forgot how truly beautiful it was and how interestingly it was constructed with the main theme of the first movement returning in various incarnations in all the movements (cyclic form ). It needs to find a contemporary champion to introduce it to new audiences.
I love how he starts the whole piece peacefully and finally grows into astonishing and brilliant music. With similar vibe of Brahms Piano Concerto No.2, but better melody and sweet harmony.
Cordialement.
I don't think the lack of bravura passages in this piece, to seduce soloists, is the root of the problem for this piece. As a concerto it doesn't compare well with those by Saint-Saëns, let alone the obvious greats. It is lovely to hear new repertoire for jaded ears liked mine, but this is not a strong concerto.
I like this concerto but themes are pretty bland, almost too scale-like and predictable. Main theme of 1st movement actually has possibilities, but ends up pretty predictable and non-dramatic. We need some surprises and Lalo's development is pretty bland. Within this framework, I do enjoy this concerto!
Yeah, exactly. Those left hand octaves are impossibly fast at that tempo. You'll hear that the pianist plays only the top note of those 32nds, omitting the lower note.
The greatest of all composers Beethoven frequently wrote solo parts that were difficult, if not "impossible", to play. And he didn't care: what he had to say as a composer superseded any grumbling the performer had to make.
This has always been one of my favorite concertos. Lalo is quite an underrated composer IMO.
Interesting to see the piano at the bottom of the score.

I regret that I have but one thumbs up to give for this marvelous piece.
Wow, what an amazing piece. Waited for it quite a time.
Thank you, Bartje!
Why....why is this piece so underrated??? Sublime beauty flows from start to finish!

Really beautiful Concerto. I like the beginning of the Allegro (exposition) here: 3:03
really nice work,,,, plenty fine pieces by Lalo
Everywhen listening this work, I am remembering "Lawrence of Arabia".
noice thanks for doing this :D
thank u
Didn't know he wrote a piano concerto.

Welcome to my favorites:)
Now I feel bad for underrating Lalo on the previous vidwo
This has parts reminding me of Tchaikovsky's piano concert No. 1.

16:28 is what happens when non-pianists write piano concertos
are you reffering to the fast octave jups in the left hand? I'm just curious as i'm not a real pianist.
Yeah, exactly. Those left hand octaves are impossibly fast at that tempo. You'll hear that the pianist plays only the top note of those 32nds, omitting the lower note.
@@Malignus68 not to mention the stupid right hand part that holds no interest whatsoever...but yeah, those octaves.

@@Malignus68 Those jumps are not actually that difficult. Each jump needs to be thought of not as two seperate notes, but as a single motion.
