The 72 IS painted like the late 60's it is not named 72 for a date it is the name of 72 Boulevard in LA the Mexican/ Spanish area. They are not hand painted only the graphics are installed by hand, the belt also needs adjustment just very early and they should be lubed MR Sheen works fine other wise the belt can squeak lastly they do have vales the have hydraulic lifters. They were not a good seller which is strange when i'm out of mine with mates on sportsters and big twins mine get the most looks. This is my first sporty and i like it got the looks and a huge fun factor. After Ive installed patriot defender 2>1 pipes and a ThuderMax it really moves.
The hydraulic lifters are not all like the valves found in Euro/Asian bikes, they do not require service adjusting as such, was the point I was making. The metal flake paint schemes were popular right through to the late 70's not just 60's from what I've seen in old Street Chopper magazines. In general motorcycle terms they have sold well, there are plenty available on the used market. In comparison to other Harley models, not so much, the forty-eight sold/sells in higher numbers so it's not a common sight out on the road. I agree the attention it pulls on the street is impressive, the reactions are quite entertaining.
Congrats on the bike mate. It's a stunner! I love the idea of taking a bike like this across the country. I'll take sport bikes for now while my back is ok with it, but I can definitely see one of these in the garage down the track. What a beauty.
Thanks mate, yeah I'll aways like sports bikes too but without a drag strip to legally let it loose here I couldn't justify having a 150hp on tap anymore. That and the ever increasing speed cameras here.
That was a great video, stunning scenery even if you were on the wrong side of the road (which I guess I'll never get used to seeing..LOL) Greetings from Texas, glad you are happy.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Fun fact we originally drove on the right side of the road in the early days before the Brits stepped in & changed that, they also influenced the same deal in Japan apparently too.
@@alejandrocuevas5271 Ive ridden and owned many Harley models, currently on a Street Bob 114 yet still miss the 72 the most out of any bike regardless of manufacturer, make and model. No other bike stirs the soul better than a 72. Harley needs to be reminded that this needs to come back somehow.
Beautiful bike. Considering a similar purchade. Wondering if you have carried a passanger on your 72 with the 2 up seat? If so, how did it handle? Thanks.
Thank you, i bought that seat purely for looks. I had several passengers all of which hated the lack of comfort. It was very narrow with little padding. But it looked great.
the death wobble could not be replicated by test riders the problem is most riders when it weaves a little they grab harder and that excavates the weave into a wobble I got pulled over at 146KPH no wobble no problem!

Great review, I just got a great deal on a used 1997 1200 Sportster I also own a RAT Moto Guzzi and posted a video showing both. Nice Camera work, what is it?
Seat was from Revzilla, I think it was called Biltwell it's in another video on here about mods I did. Sissy bar was a custom fabrication off of a standard ebay sportster bar.
Good vid. Just bought myself a ‘14 model myself. Don’t know if you still have this bike but either way do you recall what seat is on it and what was your thoughts on it?
Thanks for sharing ,fantastic review . I just bought one and getting delivered this afternoon ,xmas has come early 😁 By the way what model of seat do you have ? Regards Dave from Scotland
@@keyboardheroics Thanks mate ,got it on order from the UK. Just got in from a ride on tge 72 ,fantastic bike ,beats my 3 year old triump t120 hands down . I'm 6 feet and it was really comfortable, cant wait to get back out . Cheers Dave from St Andrews Scotland
@@keyboardheroics Hi I've now got the same seat as yours ,its fantastic. Just a wee question if you don't mind me asking What tyre pressures do you use , The manual mentions 30 psi in the front and 40 in the rear when riding solo Regards Dave from scotland
Thank you. The bar itself I have no idea of the brand, it was bought of Ebay and then customized further to fit the skinny rear wheel width of the '72.
On the weekends I don't mind because I like to take a rest after 150km anyway. During the working week I keep fuel at home that I have previously bought on a cheap cycle day and fill up here so I don't have to stop for fill ups on the way to work. If I had to stop and pay for fuel multiple times a week (helmet/gloves on and off) that would drive me nuts.
OK thanks very much. Sorry I missed it! Btw its not a good review - it's actually excellent. Keep it up - borrow some bikes and definitely do some more!
Don't forget it's a torque motor, old school racers have a saying that horsepower wins sales but torque wins races. Also worth mentioning those figures are with the stock pea shooter exhaust that nobody ever keeps.
I just got one myself a few months ago and am in love, after owning a breakout and other Harley's, this is the most enjoyable by far!!
My thoughts are most riders who criticise Harleys have never ridden one. You've got smooth lines for a guy that's new to a 72 well done.
Just bought a 2013 “lucky green” 72. Absolutely love it. Nothing at all like my Harley Ultra Limited, and that’s what makes it so special. Ride safe.
Awesome, green is a great colour.
Best looking sportster ever made is the 72 Sportster. So beautiful!
I think so too
if change to longer fock, lower the rear by using shorter shock, and replace with king queen size seat, the bike will look more beautiful for sure

That's in my top 3 best looking sportsers of all time!
Sadly discontinued now, arguably HD'd most beautiful looking models. I wish I'd grabbed one a few years ago.
100% agree, the styling team earned every $ with this bike design

Breaking news, they are stopping production of the 72, the bike has death wobble issues, the freeway is not its forte.
I read that somewhere too. I'll endeavour to explain my thoughts on this in my next video.

Nice review, any find with the wobble yet at speed ?
Thanks, yes my latest video I tackle that question after several roadtrips I have my verdict.
Great Review. Did you end up selling the ducati or did you keep Both?
Thanks mate, I did. I explain why in my latest video.
What seat is that?
I'm 5'11 160 am I to big for this bike?
No, I'm 6'2.5" 200 and I feel great on it. I'll do a riding positions video shortly to show different positions sitting on it to give a better idea.
No I an 184 and its a pretty good fit. and you can easily move the bars and pegs.
I'm 6'2" and just went to try the exact same bike and felt awesome

Gday mate. Any update on the death wobbles and how many k's to a tank. Nice bike
Hi, thanks mate. Yes all is revealed in my new video uploaded last night, a tank does roughly 150km.
Maybe you said in the video, sorry if I missed it, but what kind of seat is that? Good review too.
