      Just sent in my standard 7.62x39 upper back to BCA due to inconsistent feed and ejection issues even with enhanced firing pin with both steel and brass. I hope the issue can be fixed. I really like the platform.

    I burned out a BCA 7.62x39 16" barrel with roughly 6k rounds through it over four years, I learned a few lessons with the build.
    The replacement barrel had AK/bushmaster 7.62 style feed ramps which was a huge upgrade for feeding and not deforming soft points.
    1. enhanced firing pin is a MUST, you don't need extra power hammer springs. Black rifle arms makes the best one
    2. Your extractor WILL break within 1500-2500rds. It's the nature of the bolt face geometry. I have used a Colt gold extractor spring with insert and no oring and have had no issues after 3k rounds, wish me luck. I've heard black rifle arms makes the best extractor as well.
    3. Adjustable gas blocks really reduce parts wear and recoil. Highly recommend upgrade.
    I have one suggestion for a serious upgrade, PLEASE make midlength gas system barrels! The parts wear/breakage will be significantly reduced!

    • @elyriggs9346

      What adjustable gas block did you get?

      @@elyriggs9346 I run ERGO adjustable gas blocks, but if I had to do my build again I would choose a superlative arms bleed-off gas block.

    • @randomidiot8142
      @randomidiot8142 3 года назад +7

      Yes, please on the mid length. Or even rifle with an 18" barrel. I choked my gas port down to almost nothing and it was still locking open with steel case.

    • @SuspiciousGanymede
      @SuspiciousGanymede 3 года назад +2

      @@randomidiot8142 I had the same experience, try an A2 or VLTOR A5 buffer setup. You can run an H2 carbine/VLTOR or A2 rifle buffer even with the gas turned all the way down with roughly 30% less recoil.

    • @randomidiot8142
      @randomidiot8142 3 года назад +3

      @@SuspiciousGanymede I tried something similar with my 18" mid 7.62*39 and even with just enough gas to lock back I was getting really bad brass case rim scars from the extractor when I was running a light (empty) buffer. My 10" has a 7 oz buffer (heavier than heavy), standard spring and tuned gas, and it runs really smooth. I'll be going heavy to save brass rims from now on.

    I am super excited! I just purchased a 20 inch right side charging handle, full complete A.R. 15 rifle chambered and 5.56. The only thing I have to say that’s negative up to this point is when I purchased it directly from Bear Creek Arsenal is that it does not come with a magazine. The firing pin is a nice touch because I have to put the enhanced pin in all my rifles in that caliber in the past. Another reliability upgrade is to switch over to the five coil extractor spring from sprinco, that extra pressure really helps with reliability for these rifles when running suppressed.

    LMT makes a 7.62x39 bolt. That seems like the best option. Still, bear creek is doing a hell of a job. I think this is a very smart move for them, financially. They are filling a very niche roll that not too many companies mess with. And I keep seeing more and more people wanting an AR chambered in 7.62x39. It's a smart decision honestly. You'll have a gun that has almost complete parts compatibility and can fire the 7.62x39. Shit... That's what the acr was made for.

    Depending on what you're using for a fire control group sometimes it takes more than a enhanced firing pin. Especially, when you're using a drop in trigger. You can bend the forks out on a standard hammer spring and get the extra energy you need to detonate the round. You can also bend the hammer spring on a drop in trigger too if you can take it apart. Another trick, you can sand the tail of the bolt to get more firing pin protrusion(.041), that's usually the last thing I try and it always works.

    I bought an upper awhile back, all light primer strikes. Replaced with their newer bolt and enhanced firing pin, nothing. Replaced hammer spring with Wolf extra power, about 50/50 light strikes no matter what kind of Soviet ammo. Installed an h2 buffer and red Sprinco buffer spring, no change.. Bought a whole different upper from BCA and put all my innards in it (to keep it scientific), works great. That means the first upper was out of spec in the chamber causing the round to sit too far forward, preventing the pin from reaching the primer enough much of the time... Doesn't take much. Wonder if they'll let me return or replace the out of spec upper?

    I have several BCA uppers including 2 in 7.62X39. After a few rounds on an upgraded bolt it had to be returned for replacement. No problems with the other, both have the upgrades. No problems with any other BCA uppers either.
    I wish BCA would sell the bolt indepently or at least get the 7.62 BCG back in stock. I like spare parts for everything! With one failure it is more important to me to have a spare bolt or BCG. I'm happy to pay for spare parts as the warranty turn around was fast with the exception of sending it to and receiving from BCA.

    It would be nice if you guys would go back to the older enhanced firing pins. I have one from about 5 or 6 yes ago still going strong. I had some of your latest in a current build and one of them broke first time at the range. I’ve also noticed your latest uppers do not fit up as tight to different lowers as they used too. I know supply issues and increased demand could play a part but wanted to throw that out there. Thank you

    I was at a gunshot last week. I had and old SKS that had broken a firing pin, so I bought a new firing pin. I have a couple SKS so decided to sell that one. On my way out I passed a guy’s booth that was selling Bear Creek Arsenal Uppers. He had a 7.62x39 for a real good price, so I bought it and an Anderson Manufacturer Lower for under $440. In put iron sights and a Red Dot on it and am going to sight it in tomorrow. It says it has the enhanced extractor and firing pin, so we’ll see how it goes!

    I've successfully built two BCA 7.62x39 HBAR uppers. 7.5" and 16". Both run steel casing no issues. I love the 16". The main issues I think are with the magazines. You have to either modify the mags or go through different magazines to find the right one which will fix cycling issues. Oh and the enhanced firing pin is a must for steel cased ammo.

    Hard primers is only part of the problem. Just about any "mil-spec" 7.62x39 ammo has slightly recessed primers as well. The 5.56 NATO primer is nearly flush with the case. So a mil-spec AR firing pin tip is slightly too short to reliability set off "mil-spec" 7.62x39 primers. Also, if primer hardness was the issues, a longer pin wouldn't be the fix, since that doesn't add more force. Only a heavier hammer spring would add more force. Yet that is usually not necessary. My lower has a very light hammer spring but I am using an enhanced firing pin and 7.62x39 goes bang every time. YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY.

    I had an issue with cycling. Carbine buffer was too light and the casings kept getting caught and jamming. I saw other day to use an H3 but when I tried that the bolt wouldn't eject the casing. Finally tried an H2 buffer and it works beautifully. Using the Billet 10.5 upper, standard charging. Only have used brass ammo so far. And fwiw I did put in an enhanced FP and had no issues using the brass ammo. I would have left a 4 star rating cause the upper was not ready to rock right out of the box, but apparently you don't allow everyone to leave a rating 😁. It's going to be a fun shooter though.

    I could found the main reason why those extractor failed so quickly (someone's failed around 200-300 rounds). I went to range three weeks ago and the BCA gun failed extracting from the first round. I had to use extreme effort to pull out the steel case for about 20 rounds. The force I used to pull out the cases might be over 40 lbs because I have to secure the gun and use two hands to pull the handle in order to extracting the steel case. It was not fun at all. And the steel cases' neck has at least half lobe area, which is about 1mm wide.
    I would say the quality of the chamber might be the main reason caused those extractor failed. I sent mine upper back and still not get back yet. Will upgrade later after I get back.

    I've been having issues with both my BCA 10.5" uppers with carbine gas. Brass runs fine, but steel short strokes and fails to strip the next cartridge, fails to extract, fails to eject, fails to go into battery, etc. Every 5th round or so leaves a stuck case in the chamber

I called recently over an extractor break and they were out of enhanced pins, probably because they're implementing them into the new setups. They took care of my extractor though no problem. Are the bolt faces made of SAE 4140 it better that will make up for the thin wall bolt face. Also a nickel boron coating or a EPC108 ceramic thermal coating would help performance with steel cased ammo. We use said coatings on high performance pistons and after 1,000 hard runs at the track 1/4 mile we have minimal carbon buildup it's a great coating and can withstand the punishment.
