Her inaction is worse than impulsive. She caused Luke to die.
@@markbrown8533It's still bothering me of how no one ever taught to bring Rhaenys to Storm's End instead of Luke because Rhaenys is half Baratheon and she would be better to convince Borros to join forces. Also, her dragon, Meleys a.k.a the Red Queen is also as agile as Caraxes and it could easily avoided Vhagar and Rhaenys has more experience to ride dragon than Luke as Arrax still too little. @@Bioshocker66609 Otto was trustful, until he played Alicent to marry his late grace.
@@Wordlifematt Otto was not trustful. He ran a political intelligence empire, and killed and murdered and burned all the same as Daemon. Only he did it neat tidy political ways all the while acting in his own interest. Viserys was delusional and out of touch. The kingdom was born from melted armies. Daemon refuses to use diplomacy the same way Viserys refused to use brute strength, and it makes them both terrible leaders. Criston and Alicen and Rhaenyra and Viserys all live in a bubble where the fairy tales of past honor were real. They were not ever real. This is probably one of the most realistic fights between a couple I have seen on screen. Not overly dramatic, just raw emotion, both pressing each others buttons, the anger and the astonishment when the other hurls an insult. Class acting and writing.

Spoken like a true warlord. Rhaenera thinks strength in numbers in terms of supporters will win the Throne via peaceful means but the cold war turned into a hot one the moment Aemond killed Lucerys and Daemon had Jaehearys assassinated.
@@Senate300yes, but I would say it was bloody in the moment they decided to usurp the throne. Daemon and Otto are the only ones who can see reality as it is
@@ginopinori Love them or hate them, both understand that neither of their party is safe until the opposing side us completely eliminated. And thats something Rhaenera, Rhaenys and Alicent fail to grasp.
From what the overall narrative of the series seems to be is that the men around them Alicent & Rhaenera are pushing the DOD more and they're treated like victims of circumstances beyond their control and a patriarchal society with little agency over their actions. Only the former is held more accountable than the latter.
You could’ve told me this dialogue was lifted from Shakespeare and I wouldn’t be surprised. It feels like the writers wanted to emulate an argument between Coriolanus and some hybrid of Emilia and Cordelia.

You can really tell Emma got their start in Shakespeare this felt like a play unfolding. Beautiful

Damon: Take A Breath!
I do think the running theory still holds that Daemon does not, in fact, want the crown. We've seen how diabolical he can be to get what he wants, if he wanted the throne he would have already taken it. What he's always wanted is to be accepted by his older sibling (Viserys) and to have a voice at the table. Daemon was always at his best when Viserys approved of him, and at his lowest when his brother didn't, and just wanted to be seen as smart and capable despite his vices and impatience. If I had vowed to protect the king, vowed again to protect the queen after his passing, then fought, murder, bled, and went to war on her behalf, it might irk me a little bit too that my loyalty was being questioned.
There is undoubtedly some dark part of him that doesn't see Rhaenyra as a queen, even thinks he could do it better. I think even he would acknowledge that. But I think acknowledging a perceived reality isn't the same as acting out on it. Just because Daemon thinks he'd make a better ruler doesn't mean he has any intention of taking it, only that he's bitter that he feels his older brother who never understood him used his own niece as a tool to keep him in his place.
Daemon is still a monster, and I'm not saying any of Rhaenyra's accusations aren't true. But I get why he's angry here.
I still believe he does want it. He even started an entire war for that reason. As for your argument, it is completely valid, as Daemon was loyal to his brother and would never usurp his throne or hurt him. The same cannot be said for his niece, though…
@@_antillas8674Daemon literally crowned her and is on his way to assemble an army for her at harrenhal he's fully loyal to his family.
Daemon: Please 🙏 Calm 😌 Down!
@@_antillas8674 two truths can be right at once. daemon wants the throne because he knows he would be better suited to rule but he also is not an outright usurper or kinslayer and he is loyal to whoever is lawfully the heir. he might want the throne but he doesn't want to get it by cheating. otherwise if he truly wanted and did not care for family or morals, he would have gotten it by now. more than ever i think it stings him that even though he did all the dirty work, his brother and NOW rhaenyra still do not give him the credit and trust he should have gotten long back. he is right, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, both viserys and rhaenyra only know how to whine and act moral but do not want to do the hard work and make tough decisions.
agreed!
The face she makes before daemon puts his hand on her cheek because she expects him to possibly choke her again but she doesn't want to show weakness ☹️
Really great acting. When these two are on screen, I want more. They both had valid points. Daemon just wants Rhaenyra to be strong and not make the mistakes Viserys make and Rhaenyra have to deal with the consequence of Daemon mistake. Not to mention this is fresh off of Luke death and everyone is grieving. Grief messes up people in different ways. However I feel they will work it out.
In GOT? Wishful thinking. An amicable end for *someone* at best. For everyone? Not likely. LMAO
Saying Daemon just wants her to be strong is a generous interpretation of his issues with her. I think it's more that Rhaenyra's right: he wants to be the one making the decisions because he believes he knows best. He doesn't respect that she is the one who is in charge, and so he does whatever he wants and damn the consequences (which are almost always bloody because Daemon is a violent person, and what he wants is usually murder or revenge).
@@seanp2871 This! I can't believe anyone could have such a charitable interpretation of Daemon's actions.
Nope he is right. Daemon only wants her to be strong but she has shown herself to be weak since the beginning. @@seanp2871

Less emotion , more thinking …
This couple is truly the heart and soul of the show.
I love how she stands her ground while he gains control of himself. I love her for that, she’d been through enough. All the emotions she showed in just a few seconds whew!
I love how both of them use Viserys memory as a tool to further their own interests, and neither of them understand nor will ever be able to understand the true reason why Viserys had chosen Rhaenyra as his heir, or why he was so incredibly stubborn about It. It's right, Viserys didn't make her an heir because of her character or her wisdom. It was because of Aemma. It was because If he wasn't corrupted by the obsession of having a male heir, Aemma could have lived and survived. Viserys risked his reputation, everything, to keep Rhaenyra as an heir because he loved her desperately, because Rhaenyra was the last bit of Aemma that was left to him in his world. The choice was his chosen redemption act. To defend It and be worth of Aemma's forgiveness in his mind, he was determined to walk to the Iron Throne and sit on It while he was nothing more than a walking corpse just to defend Rhaenyra. Surely he didn't trust Daemon one bit when he made the decision, but It was never about that.
They will never know the truth, how can they? If only they knew. But maybe It's a blessing in disguise that they can never know.
Dude, Viserys was weak and stupid and the main reason for all the war to come imo
@@kristianpadley5562 a very weak king who was not suited for the throne, but could be assertive when pushed around much. Ultimately, he was a good man at heart, though a bit short-sighted despite being at times surprisingly insightful
@@kristianpadley5562 Have I ever said what I think of Viserys as a ruler? No. I only talked about his reasons for keeping Rhaenyra as his heir. Reasons that don't include Rhaenyra's qualities as a ruler, and neither his despise for Daemon at the time. The reason was Aemma and his own personal guilt, plain and simple.
The man surely was a weak king under many aspects for most of his life, and his love for maintaining peace around him at every cost made him lack in assertiveness, his cowardice or laziness surely created a fertile ground for this civil war; but his love for his daughter and his guilt towards Aemma and the situation around her passing are undeniable. Simple as that.
You totally forgot about the vision of the long night that was passed down by Targaryen rulers. Daemon didn't respect or believe in dreams (dreams didn't make us kings, dragons did), so Daemon wouldn't be fit to rule because he might risk neglecting the passing down of the prophecy. This surely must've been a major consideration in choosing Rhaenyra over Daemon
Not killing people right and left, not raping and pillaging other lands, betraying his friends and family, and not burning cities to the ground does not make him weak. You probably think Daenerys would have been a good Queen.

Two masterful performers going back and forth like this is amazing television. Matt and Emma were born to scene partners.
Emma D'arcy deserves an emmy for this season.
This episode was beautifully shot, directed, acted, not a single weak performance by anyone. Bravo
Daemon is a bit unpredictable and ruthless but he does love her and has aided in her pursuit for the throne Ngl .
Literally she asked HIM to marry after driftmark for the main reason to make her claim stronger and that no one would challenge. He was going to go to pentos with his daughters and not back to kinds landing like viserys asked him. He then faked laenors death for HER to that they can marry. Of course out of care and love it was the best option for them.
And now everything he has done essentially after they got married was for her. Now this is where it bugs me a little that I’m sure daemon knows the reputation he has around the kingdom (duh obviously having by your side is important rhaenrya) and he doesn’t care what they think about him but it’s always been about his family’s option that he cared most about and now rhaenrya is basically treating him like viserys did and that upsets him and low-key he is kind of being over looked in a way in terms of strategy. He was been wanting to go to harrenhal since season finale but rhaenrya didn’t want that. Last ep was the same thing while she was looking for Luke’s remains he was willing to get on the dragon after vhagar and/or go to harrenhal but he had to stay behind. I think that’s scene with Rhaenys was great because even after their differences he went to the 1 other person he can trust to fight with him… his cousin because he is justifiably angry and I think in that moment daemon also could’ve needed some validation for his anger and he is not getting it from the rest. This scene and the Otto's one was just pure phenomenal acting! What a great episode!
The Cargyll fight as well.
I actually feel that Daemon in his own way, had the best intention at heart. By best intention I mean, to aid Rhaenyra get what she wanted. "I want Aemond Targaryen" were her exact words. Daemon immediately moved to grant her this wish. People keep talking about how Daemon wanted to be King, but the entire heir talk is just part of his mischief.
He always looked to protect his brother, immediately bent the knee when he returned from the Stepstones, placed the crown on the head of the ruler twice (one for Viserys and one for Rhaenyra.
Viserys said himself, Daemon has no interest in the throne. Much like Aegon said at first, he has no taste for it. But he deeply respects what it symbolizes and what it means to sit on it.
Fully agree. At this point during the Dance, Daemon is rather unselfishly supporting his wife.
Like when most consorts do, at least their son will be next in line. But no! He specifically supports Jace, a half Targaryen but his wife's son, as her heir. He fortifies Dragonstone for her, crowns her, raises an army for her, (in the book) carries out vengeance for Luc to support her, then crowns her again in Kings Landing, guarding her from any attack. What he gets in return is only an unwanted consort title (not desirable for one who is a grandson of a king, pureblood Targaryen prince and the most legendary man in Westeros at this point), his own son only being fourth in line, and her constant mistrust.
I just don't see how you can write this as selfishly wanting power.... The show writers just miss the history and motivations of Daemon that are there in the Books.
The guy was smirking while they were in the council discussing Jahaerys' death. Rhaenys imediatly knew who did it.
I kind of disagree. Daemon was itching for war. When Rhaenyra said she wanted Aemond, I think he just used that as an excuse to indulge his bloodlust. (And if it had the added benefit of pleasing his queen and wife, that was just a perk.) He undermined his queen by going around her. Had he succeeded, Rhaenyra would have forgiven him though. The fact that he shows no remorse (he was literally smirking during the council) for the decapitation of a little child-something for which he is indirectly responsible-makes it all the worse.
Daemon is complicated to say the least.
In a weird way, he genuinely loves his family and has little interest in usurping the crown. Having said that, Daemon likes the power of being king consort and hand of the king, and he sees Rhaenera and Viserys as weak willed and compromising, thus blocking his own more warlike interest
Imagine the ending like GOT Daemon stabbed Renira in the back 😅😅

When Rhaenyra accuses Daemon of plotting "his war" when she was in labor. Go rewatch Episode 10/S1, Daemon did EVERYTHING CORRECTLY.
• He knows Otto's plan will be to send a small band of assassins & do it thru stealth. So he organizes what little force they have on Dragonstone to watch the skies & the beaches. They dont have much men, but they can be vigilant & LOOK stronger than they are.
• He correctly understands that no more time can be wasted. The Greens had a head start & they need to play catch up & FAST. So he wants to secure the Riverlands & Harrenhall bc he knows strategically that will tip the war in their favor.
Jace walks in & says nothing is to be done w/out the Queen's consent. Daemon has the maester send the ravens anyways -- again, time can't be wasted.
All Daemon did in those crucial hours/days when Rhaenyra was struggling thru her birth -- something we've seen the MEN can do nothing abt -- He took the assertive role to PROTECT HIS QUEEN/WIFE & THEIR KIDS (present on Dragonstone) & in many ways to secure her claim as the rightful heir/ruler.
So when Rhaenyra answered Jace when he asked "Where's Daemon?" & she goes, "I dont know...gone to madness...gone to 𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘳..."
AND she throws that back in his face in THIS argument...dafuq??! He did what was necessary, he acted appropriately & he probably got them ahead of the curve which they desperately needed at the time.
It's bizarre that even Rhaenyra cannot recognize that.
EP7/S1, Rhaenyra BEGGED Daemon to join her. "I cannot do this without you". He was more than happy to fck off to Pentos & not deal with Westeros or it's politics/GOT. But he agreed for HER sake. & she KNEW Daemon's "darkness", in fact that's one of the key factors why she wanted him, "they will fear what else we may be capable of [together]". She wanted him & everything that comes with it.
When she accuses Daemon of "using her"..SHE USED HIM to secure HER claim & also to have LEGITIMATE heirs/kids, so ppl would potentially stop questioning her kids parentage. Make it make sense, Rhaenyra 🙄
& when she said her "I want Aemond Targaryen" line, she LOOKED directly at Daemon with a "do what you do" look in her eyes in that scene & she knew he's been out for blood since he learned Viserys died & they usurped her throne...what did she think was gonna happen?
& what responsibility will she bear for HER part in it? Bc she could've also said aloud "I want him dead, but we'll make a plan". Or something. When she singled out Daemon, she couldve pulled him aside & said "We'll do it together. Promise me." Point is, she had power/authority that could've prevented him from taking actions. Since we've seen him frustratingly idling by when he feels he should be unleashed. He obviously has respect & restraint...he doesn't like it, but he is capable of it.
This comment just gets it as you can’t dilly dally when it comes to war
Him organizing war efforts while she was giving birth would have gone over better if he consulted her
Aint no one without autism is reading this, bud.
@@gazzadonaNah Maradona every time.
@@marineldelatado Yeah it almost feels like Rhaenyra hasn't really processed that war is going to break out any day. She's not as delusional as Alicent but it does feel that she still hasn't grasped the reality of the situation.
Two actors at the peak of their powers. What a scene 👏🏽
With that acting, Emma D’Arcy will have grown men cry at the end of this series.
I noticed that Daemon got a theme song in this episode. It plays right after the scene where he leaves the room and walks down the hallway, and again when he leaves on his dragon. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure we haven't heard this tune before
"You sought greatness but shrink away from spilling blood to achieve it." Such a great quote.
Daemon and Tywin must have a dialogue because they would be friends for life
Pretty sure Tywin would hate Daemon, if only because he's too unpredictable.
@@amorojaz27 You can hate someone but still respect him. That's what I'm talking about, I'm absolutely sure that they would respect each other
Tywin only used force when he needed it. He is more like Otto
The fact that Max put out this clip from Episode 2 shows it was hands down the BEST scene of the season so far. And I couldn’t agree more!
I was in awe watching this scene. I'm especially impressed by the emotion in Emma's voice. Replay this clip and listen only. You'll see what i mean.
Hello,How are you?
Rhaenyra, in her heart, knows what Daemon is, Everyone does.
That's why I hate him
And what is that? He is what he is and that is, only greatest of them all
@@RomarioPatricecringe
I don't think anyone really knows what Daemon is, even himself
@@Magnonx fail to see the cringe
This just proves that her relationship with Daemon has always been chaotic, even violent. The subtle flinches Rheanyra does when he runs over to her of when he slams the door. Even his daughter was worried when she saw the broken dishes when she went to the queens bed chambers. Fantastic acting.
Even in her grief for her murdered son and stillborn daughter, she's still horrified by the fact Daemon is responsible for the murder of a child in avenging Lucerys, even if he was targeting Aemond.
Does anyone notice right after this moment?
Rhaenyra stopped Jace from going to patrol outside Kings Landing, when he volunteered.
But Baela, who is Daemon's daughter? No, she can go. Even though she appears like she really cares for Baela. She is clear which child she is ready to endanger.
But Baela is his son future wife.
I noticed that too, but I think it’s understandable considering she just lost a son
I think she doubts if Jace can control his impulses if he faces another dragon but she believes baela would follow orders, that's why she sent baela
He’s not only her son, he is heir to the iron throne. The Greens are more likely to target her heir after Aegon’s heir has been murdered.
Right now, as far as Hightower propaganda and accusations are concerned, it was Rhaenyra who ordered the killing. Strategically its her sons who would be the ones targeted in revenge. Baela being the daughter of Daemon makes her less of a target. That seems like a reach of a criticism of her decision. I saw it as respect for Baela's even keeled temper and decision making. I like the way they are writing Baela. Now if they discovered it was Daemon who ordered the killing? Then Baela is a target. But Rhaenyra isn't revealing that and in so doing protecting Baela and her husband while shouldering the blame.
HE WAS NOT AFRAID OF YOU, DÆMON!!!
they said somewhere about hiring theater actors in these roles & you can tell w/ emma darcy performance probably my favorite scene of hers so far
One of the best written scenes in the whole series. Kudos to this episode’s writer, this felt like a medieval argument between a couple going through a divorce
This is some great acting here! A very good scene 👍
The acting was top notch. I never sae them argue before in the show. They always shared a bond closer than anyone else in the show. It was painful to watch. He really thought he was trustworthy for her but forgot that he was also part of the reason for that trust and abandonment issues she has. And tbh i agree with daemon too. He has so many good points. Both of them do that makes this more painful.
I fully understand Daemon's anger in this scene. Blood and Cheese was brutal and was definitely misplaced anger on an innocent child, but honestly, what more could the man do to prove his loyalty to his family? If Daemon wanted the crown, he could have taken it any time. The fact that he didn't, always stood by Viserys, put the crown on Rhaenyra's head, took it personally when her son was killed, and laid down his life for her cause says it all. His hotheaded temper earned him a lot of enemies, but at least he was always honest with his brother snd wife about what he thought. Meanwhile, Otto schemes behind Viserys back, and he's appointed hand of the king.
Hello, How are you?
Daemon is right, her inability to act is what's going to cost her more in the end. Daemon maybe a hot head at times but he's willing to lead his men in battle plan strategies and put his life on the line no matter what happens.
They just lost her son, they were allowed to grieve.
@@emilyfrench481 while ur grieving ur enemy would be planning. And the greens literally acted within a day of the death of jaehaerys while rhaenyra was gone for days.
@@emilyfrench481
Agreed but this is war, her son won't be the only casualty. She still has to act even when one's close to her are lost, that's where I think daemon's experience would have an upper hand. She could have always bent the knee if she didn't want war, this is what comes with it
I think Daemon is also frustrated because all he could see in his wife is his own brother and all of his perceived weaknesses for being an absolute monarch at time of war
Rhaenyra and her council's hesitations could really be frustrating for a man of action like Daemon, and had things gone according to his plan, no one would probably have an issue with what he did.
Rhaenyra already had a lot going against her and didn't need another hit. She is the one who has to live with the 'Rhaenyra the Cruel' moniker, not him. If they let it be known that Daemon carried out the order without her express knowledge, it will make her look like she can't control her own household. If they tell people it was a mistake and Aemond was the real target, they're going to look incompetent. They do need to take more action, but as their figurehead, it's Rhaenyra's image who suffers when blunders happen.
Daemon could have just said what done is done, we are at war, I’m not sorry. But he genuinely cares what she thinks and how she feels. In spite of himself, he tries to say what she needs to hear without lying. Meanwhile, she’s digging up stuff that no longer matters cuz she has no other ammo. Her father is dead and Daemon never turned on her or tried to take the Iron Throne from her. He’s her royal consort, the father of her 2 youngest sons. His sons will sit the Iron Throne. She really thinks he’s so petty he would intentionally betray her or undermine her in any way? Calling him pathetic when he gets the vengeance she asked for is just unfair.
She didn't ask for Jaeherys to be killed. She wanted Aemond dead. Unfortunately, she married a murderous bully.
Daemon’s way of doing things just allowed Rhaenyra’s rightful wrath to become a horrific act that alienates her from the smallfolk and noble houses alike. I’d be questioning him too, If I were her.
Just as Otto sought power without being king, Daemon has taken to grasping for power in a different way. Rhaenyra's struggle with Daemon parallels Alicent's with Otto. She isn't bringing up past things that don't matter anymore. She is highlighting a pattern of behavior demonstrating his truer sentiments regarding her and the throne. She asks him he if truly accepts her as queen and snakes his way through the conversation before unraveling and outing himself and his true feelings about himself, her as queen, and his brother. He is dismissive of Rhaenyra both as a person and ruler and says as such because he believes("knows" in his mind) that her and his brother's way of ruling is wrong. His actions do not reflect careful consideration of her, but of himself.
When I see them here I get reminiscences of how it might be when Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys lived within those walls.
He’s so dramatic slapping both cups
Daemon loves Rhaenyra, it's evident in his actions through his own ways and his own moral compass maybe only few could grasp
How is that evident? I don’t see love in his actions at all
you don't choke someone you love
You mean like when he choked her?
These two and then otto, just chewing up the scene
I love the creative freedom the writers have with this show to craft these private scenes that werent talked about in the book. And they are really working it to the best of their abilities. The writers love these characters and it really shows
what is with these 2 and rest of the cast? especially aegon (tom) going all put this season? like damn his screaming was top tier.
Season 1 didnt get a single emmy nomination for acting and they took that personally
The acting in this scene was perfection. They both embody the characters and the emotions so well. I for one do not thing Daemon desires the throne but i know some people do. This scene really brings out more of their character and its so sad and amazing to watch. I was honestly almost brought to tears watching this scene. It was amazing and it will stay with me for a while. These two are one of mt favorite parts of the show and their relationship is so interesting and amazing to observe and analyze. I hope they can learn to trust one another again, even though it may not happen.
But aside from that, love the actors and these characters with my whole heart and season 2 is gonna be an emotional ride (as it is) ❤
Love that music after “you’re pathetic.”
Daemon is 100% right
The thing is, without Daemon, Rhaenyra is crippled. Not only would the realm see her as weak but she would lose a man who can command authority and has experience. He is also probably the most dangerous dragon rider. Even more so than Aemond because of his experience and bond with Caraxes. If Daemon abandoned her or worse, decided to help the other side, the war is over.
She's realizing that the only men she can trust are her sons
Me IRL 😢
I wouldn't go that far but she definitely lost the guy (at least for the time being) who she felt would be her pillar
In the universe if this show, not even that.
I dont think there were honorable men as Harwin, his father, Leanor, Viserys etc

Glad to see her finally, TRULY call him out. Don't know why so many people still like this guy. Is he badass? Yes. Is he an INTERESTING character? Absolutely. Is he on the correct side of this conflict? IMO, yes. Is he a GOOD guy? NO.
She didn’t even care where he went. Phenomenal acting
mom and dad are fighting 😭
2:25 you can just feel the frustration in Rhaenyra’s voice when she tells Daemon this cause he refuses to understand and see why Viserys kept him away.
Daemon was right, Viserys was weak and Daemon was the stronger brother, and he declared Rhaenyra his heir just so Daemon couldn’t take the throne. Facts❗️
Daemon is a worthless deadbeat.
They have great chemistry, really good acting!
One thing I agree on with Daemon , is Viserys was a fool , he's the one who created the war and divided the realm by naming Rheanyra
It was a stupid tradition. King Viserys was right to break with this ridiculous tradition. Case in point, Rhaenyra was a superior ruler than Aegon by any measure. And there would not have been any division, if not for Otto Hightower's treachery - beginning with pimping out his own daughter and then usurping Rhaenyra's throne in favor of Alicent's poorly raised son.
Yeah, but he was smart enough to not trust Daemon any further than he could throw him.
@@amorojaz27 that's why we have war now if Daemon had been king none of this would have ever happened
@@hereiam8 Daemon is a murderous bully. Not someone anyone with common sense would want in a position of power.
@@ehansbrough593 and that's what you get when you break a tradition and a huge expectation such as male primogeniture , it naming Rheanyra as heir over Aegon the 1st born son was the problem
Regarding the nature of each other I feel both are right. Daemon nature definitely had Viserys & others seeking to Deny him becoming a future King. Rhaenyra also gotta remember she not only begged him to be here but that they are also in a full on war.
Phenomenal acting. This scene felt so real and so immersive, just incredible.
The acting was soooo goood!!!!! The way she said DAEMON! Nicely done
