He was a tortured and troubled soul, who was gifted from above with a talent that has touched the hearts of generations, and through his recordings, will continue to touch those of future generations. Rest now Billy, you're finally at peace. 🎹🎹🎹🎹👑🕊
I gather some people have been, errr, squabbling here? I don't get it folks; Preston is supremely talented. His gospel roots show STRONG here. If you have any soul at all you have to be moved by his delivery of this great, great song. So everybody chill and just enjoy this, it is really superb!
The 70's were 30 to 40 years ago. Seems like yesterday. I get comfort in knowing that we're here only for a little while. When you get to feeling lonely just remember that this world is not your home and you're only here for an instant when compared to eternity. I loved Billy Preston's music.
How the Lord can work through a man who was raised in holiness from a young age....I waited until 22 to get the spirit...I can tell this stuff is from above!
Billy Preston proves without a doubt on this live version of "Change is Gonna Come" that he was one of popular music's greatest "soul powers". I officially induct him into the "Soul Music Hall of Fame". Thank you Billy for the joys you bring.
R.I.P. Mr. Preston. You are brilliant. People, if you love Billy, please watch "I was made to love her" It was one of his last live performances before he passed, and I think it was one of the best live performances of all time. Miss ya Billy.
Billy Preston great pianist, in honor of George Harrison he showed his ability on the piano, was too much, deserves all predicates to be on the sidewalk of the best musicians of the 20th century.

Billy was just so talented. I never tire of listening to his music. He wrote "You Are So BeautifuL' Wish he could have been with us longer. RIP..Missing you all these years.
I was so very lucky to have seen Billy Preston in an outdoor concert series called "Summerthing" in Boston, not sure what year but was 1972-1976 time frame. I attended a LOT of concerts with many different, terrific performances - Grateful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Zappa, Elton John, Dr Hook - many. But there was no one, NO ONE, who exuded such sheer JOY in his music as Billy. It was absolutely impossible to sit still, or even to sit! I have never forgotten that day and I never will. I've loved him ever since.
Billy was about the 4th band to play out of 7 or 8 other bands at an all day show in Birmingham around 1973 or 1974, we loved Billys show so much we all piled in a car and drove to some college campus to hear his solo show about 3 weeks later. Got right up next to the stage for the entire show.
Billy Preston was a beast on the organ and piano. One of the best in the early game in music. He played with the likes of the Rolling Stones and other great bands. P.I.P(play in peace)
This song is so personal to me. I tear up and almost weep when I hear it. God knows I've been thru alot. Listening to Billy Preston performance is almost a spiritual enlightening. Thank you Billy and RIP.
I happened across this guy's music today while watching the very first episode of Saturday Night Live...and I became an instant fan! I recognized right away that there was something special about him. I hate that it took me so long to discover this.
Billy called me in Buena Park, from Hollywood, right before Nothing From Nothing Means Nothing hit the radio. I hadn't seen him since 1962 and in "63 I enlisted in the army, as a private, while he was introduced to the Beatles at the same time. I had no clue, as I walked into a local bar to have a beer and heard some Beatles music on their radio. I asked the waitress whose crappy song that was and she said, "They are the Beetles!" Billy was playing the piano for them, at the time!
Have you EXPERIENCED his performance of “ THAT’s the way GOD PLANNED IT” at George Harrison’s “ CONCERT FOR BANGLA- DESH”?? .. If you haven’t.. I urge you all to see it!!!
I cant stop being teary eyed! I love you so much uncle Billy! I feel like you are Always around me. Sometimes when I feel down, your songs pop up from nowhere and you play a cheerful song just for me! Im sorry that I didnt make the most of the time I had to spend with you. I used to love to watch you reherse when I was little, you lived in Tapanga Canyon and a few years agowhen you lived in Ladera Heights! A change HAS come uncle, a Black President! Wish you were here to see! Rock on!

Easy to see that the lyrics on this song really means something to him and to everybody who suffers. There's almost nothing nowadays compared to great songs like this one.
RIP Billy Preston! Great Gospel arrangement for this classic and very different from the string laden original Sam Cooke recorded of the song he wrote. I like both versions very much.

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ev'r since
It's been a long time, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there, beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep tellin' me don't hang around
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
Then I go to my brother
And I say brother help me please
But he winds up knockin' me
Back down on my knees, oh
There have been times that I thought I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will
