@@green323turbo True, there is always an interplay between any of the combinations of Stones guitarists, but the commenter singled out Keith here, who, along with Mick, was surely playing some great guitar on the tour. This has always been my favorite Stones album, live or otherwise. When people ask me why Sam Cutler started that introductory line calling the Stones being the "greatest rock and roll band in the world" I always refer them to 'Get Yer Ya Yas Out.' They were at the top of their game on this and the following tour. And rock and roll (as opposed to a great many groups now playing "Rock") was what they were playing. Thanks for responding and for digging the Stones!

I was at the 2nd (late) show on Friday, November 28, 1969 at Madison Square Garden. Incredible energy and audience vibe. The reason Mick J. says "sorry you had to wait" is due to interminable gaps between acts. That waiting part was awful. Stones finished after midnight. Opening acts in order were Terry Reid, B.B. King, and Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Unforgettable experience!

I was at one of the shows there that weekend too; after all this time I forget which day. At the show I saw (same opening acts you named) the Stones came onto the stage at midnight. Mick said "Sorry you had to wait," but then pissed me off by adding "We had to wait too, right?" I think the delays were because the shows were being filmed and recorded--you can hear the reference to the busted button on "Get Your Ya-yas Out." I had to leave before the show was over (missed "Satisfaction") in order to catch the last train home.

Saw them in Los Angeles on this tour with the same lineup. The 2nd of two shows that night started two and half hours late because the first one did.
They had an ice hockey match in the afternoon and had difficulty getting the ice off and the floor layer down to start the show.
The Stones finished at 5 IN THE MORNING!!!! It was all worth it!

You have to hand it to these gentlemen, 'cause they really did something for rock and roll. The rhythmic sense and sense of energy, of syncopation, of driving sound is in my eyes their gift to rock & roll and we should use that gift for the music of the present.

Stones had 2 secrets in 69 their best year of all, Bill Wyman's boomin bass and Mick Taylor. I have been searching for that Omega shirt since 1969 and I cannot ever find one. Nobody will even make one. My dad thought it was a That girl shirt, Lol that'd work though, this was when Mick danced cool, before his um lessons I would like to have that 69 Gibson SG of MT's. At some point I think around Black n Blue they went from their live Gibsony sound rough and rock'n to the Fender sound, sweet cleans but it misses that Gibson punch in the mouth later on, this is Gibson heaven. The Stones had this loose wobble to their sound anchored by Billy the bottom bass man.

The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing
WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep Mick Taylor in the band.
For starters, they could have PAID him. He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals.
In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band.
    They did not...
With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE
DAY, Keef couldn't hold a candle to him.
Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist.
Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius.
Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana.
    No doubt about it.
The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics. The band was never the same after 1974.

I recently listened to the audio book about Altamont it was 9 hours of Stones Heaven, after Altamont . The Stones were smart they hired Chip Monck who designed their stage and lighting confronted a member of the Angels stealing a large custom purple carpet that was part of the Rolling Stones stage set and lost his teeth being hit in the mouth with a pool cue. He later tracked down the person and managed to trade a case of brandy for the carpet, that rug is still somewhere today, just search Altamont audio book, highly recommended.

@FenderJaguarMan12 Ok now I understand! The era with Taylor is also my favourite, I don't think anyone was jealous of anyone really, they were all great. To me Taylor is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) British guitarist of all time. But that's just me :) Taylors vibrato is very unique, and to me he has a unique style of playing that is very fluid and melodic. In this video I think he overplays a bit, but this was 1969 and he had just joined the group.

Mick Taylor left the Stones for 2 reasons: He would die because of drugs. His nose was almost boring when he left. The other reason is that keith was jealous of him for being so good with the guitar and keith created a tense atmosphere because of this. A loss to the rock. Love the way plays the riff during the chorus, by scraping his hand across the strings. Check it out. Hes gotta be in open tuning.

Incorrect. Drugs were a big issue, as he was trying to keep up w/ Keith w/ the partying. Yet the "jealousy" thing is bullshit. Keith's always been candid about being in awe over Taylor's ability as a soloist. In a recent interview, Keith spoke of Taylor's virtuosity, saying the '69-73 years were Keith's favorite as a live band & that if he had HIS way, Taylor'd still be in the band. Taylor left because of musical boredom & Mick & Keith's refusal to give him song-writing credits.

@@keeponrollin7922 Allen Klein was the founder. Ronnie was his nephew (I stand corrected). That was him at the studio. There is another shot of him giving Mick a funny look when they are waiting for a helicopter to take them to Altamont.
He bought out his uncle for the rights to be the Stones manager.

Everyone ,allways says about what a great lead guitarist was Mick Taylor -and he sure was- but noone have ever noticed that he couldnt play equal good on rythm guitar, i mean with tension and nerve like Keith ...............Whats done is done . The Stones were great before and after Taylor and the guys still plays good . I prefer the duet Keith-ronnie but the years were past and they never had the influense to do new songs like those of the Taylor era

Compare the joyfulness of the crowd during this song to the absolute sadness of the crowd around the stage at Altamont.
