Wow, blast from the past! Haven't heard any Oingo Boingo in ages. My favorite from them is "Stay" from the "Dead Man's Party" album. Quintessential 80s sound. Thanks for the reaction SAD!

Oingo Boingo weren't just "another 80s band".. they were a trailblazing underground band that OTHER bands imitated, and eventually had some mainstream success before Elfman started doing movie scores full time. They were heavily influenced by Ska and punk, but Elfman was always looking to break new ground and try new things. If you wanna hear "PUNK" Boingo, check out their first album, or their Demo EP.

I enjoyed that. I loved the way it sounded on my vintage equipment.

In their earliest incarnation they were the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. I saw this early version for a midnight show at the Fox Venice Theater in Venice Beach CA. And then I saw them as Oingo Boingo seven or eight times after that. Most of those times before they'd even put out their first LP.
Absolutely one of my favorite bands.

I saw them live several times - always a fantastic show! The audience never stopped bouncing. If you've seen the movie "Weird Science", they did the theme song to that one, and they were featured in a few other films too. But of course, the most lasting fame for Boingo came from their lead singer/songwriter Danny Elfman (that's the guy down at the bottom), who went on to score dozens of popular films (and still does) including Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman, Spider-Man, Corpse Bride, and my personal favorite "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure".

I used to go to their halloween shows...which were actually more like Día de los Muertos shows...whenever I could. They were awesome live.

they were def. 80's. My favorites are the first 3 albums especially 2nd and 3rd albums (so many gems), and Solo. 1st hit was Only a Lad. Big commercial album was Dead man's Party which had big soundtrack hit : Weird Science. I like the early stuff, not so meh.

Pedestrian Wolves Danny Elfmans cultural commentary attracted me back when they came out.

Oingo Boingo is a better live band - a SoCal phenom thru the 80s - their Halloween shows were epic They evolved from an artsy performance troupe founded in the early 70s by Richard Elfman, into an 80s rock band fronted by younger brother Danny.
Here's a 1976 Gong Show clip featuring the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo - Danny Elfman is in the troupe at this point. ruclips.net/video/tsmwVWELBBc/видео.html
This is from their 1995 farewell concert DVD performed at the Universal Amphitheater on Halloween night ruclips.net/video/HnEkodpneqI/видео.html
