Their catalog is a great progression, but prepare yourself, their last album from 1994 called "Boingo" takes a somewhat dark turn. LOL

Little Girls and Just Another Day are my two favorite OB songs. The band made an absolutely insane cult film called Forbidden Zone which is definitely NSFW but has the best soundtrack I've ever heard.

If you’re into The Network you ought to listen to Ain’t This The Life. Theory of Reality takes a lot from that.
Also the Weird Al connection is You Make Me, which is a Boingo style parody that uses parts of Dead Man’s Party and Grey Matter.

Listen to "NASTY HABITS" which is an amazing song, plus it is the Boingo song that gave inspiration to Danny Elfman for the Pee-Wee's Big Adventure soundtrack. As a matter of fact, I think he used the actual intro from this song in the movie!!

Oingo Boingo is, hands down, the BEST live band from The New Wave 80's era. They are one of the most talented New Wave Bands. I saw them in concert 3 times. Hardly any of these "so called" RUclips reactors has really dived into the real meat and potatoes of Oingo Boingo. They all have been sampling their most commercial drivel - Weird Science, Dead Man's Party, Just Another Day, etc... Don't follow the rest of the sheep. Here's my advice - Their best album is "Nothing to Fear." The top 4 songs you should listen and react to is 1. Grey Matter 2. Nothing to Fear (Song) 3. Reptiles and Samurai 4. Why'd we come. Stay ahead of the curve. Be the first brave soul to review these songs. You will be eternally grateful and a better reactor for it. And please inform me when you are going to react to these song(s). Thank You

As a rock band, Oingo Boingo started as a ska and punk-influenced octet, achieving significant popularity in Southern California. During the mid-1980s, the band adopted a more pop-oriented style, until a significant genre change to alternative rock in 1994.
"New Wave". That was the rush of British bands in the early 80s hence the name "wave" as it's what they rode over on. The two John's in the band were both buddies of mine from teen years and grew up in the San Gabriel Valley...;)
They were one of the best ska inspired bands from that era though and inspired bands like No Doubt from Anaheim. They had some amazing Halloween shows in places like Irvine Meadows, Universal Amphitheater and The Greek and I wouldn't be able to talk right for days due to singing all night after one of their performances...:)

If you decide to react to some more songs from them, I highly reccomend:
'Weird science', 'nothing bad ever happens to me', 'gratitude', 'stay', 'dead man's party', 'insects', 'violent love', 'wild sex (in the working class)', 'Elevator Man', 'we close our eyes', 'not my slave', 'helpless', 'goodbye goodbye', 'grey matter' or 'just another day'.
Btw, this was the first video I've watched from your channel and I can already tell that it's good, and that you send out cool vibes.

If you want to hear a more dark and hardcore song by Oingo Boingo, listen to “Why’d We Come” or “Islands” off of the album Nothing To Fear. Every song on their first three albums are great, including the solo album Danny Elfman did in 1984 called So-Lo. I saw them live twice in the 80’s. Two of the best shows I’ve ever been to!

then follow up with their next two albums: Nothing to Fear - Good For Your Soul.
I was addicted after this first song back in 1981 already - and I LOVE the way this song grabs you immediately by so many good stuff and keeps up your fascination through the whole thing. Go for more! Enjoy :)

If you want a more punkish version of this song there is a seperate recording from their 1988 alive recording session. Its a great record of their greatest hits re-recorded in a very sharp style. I recommend off that album “dead or alive (1988 boingo alive version)”

Someone else mentioned No One Lives Forever and I have to agree that it it one of their better songs, probably my favorite off the Dead Man's Party album. The band, in general, is hard to pin down for a genre of music. The catch all New Wave fits, they get ska elements, as well as punk and Jazz. Every band member is a multi-instrumentalist, well maybe noth the drummer, Johnny Vatos Hernandez, because every song has drums, but surpisingly not every song has guitar, some have xylophones, accordions come out, and violin shows up in at least 1 song.

I grew up listening to Boingo and they are still one of my favorite bands of all time. Most of us 80’s teens also listen to Sleep and Matt Pike. Nice intro…
Boingo are way darker than this song too. Just explore the first three albums. Only A Lad, Nothing to Fear and Good for Your Soul. The last, self titled album in ‘94 is also, very dark.
BTW! I love when you said “SHIT!” You got it ! It’s difficult music to play.

Oingo Boingo wasn’t in UHF but they were also on Dr. Demento with Weird Al who was a big fan and possibly inspired to do parodies by some of their early songs which were parodies (“Open Eyes” and a version of “California Girls” with lyrics about alien chicks) and Weird Al was a guest star on Danny’s Nightmare Before Christmas show which I saw on my birthday last October. You might also like his new album which is a fusion of punk and classical with some metal.

    • @charlessalzman4377

Weird Al did a style parody of Oingo Boingo with the song "You Make Me" on "Even Worse" and Weird Al filled in for Catherine Ohare's Shock during Kidnap the Sandy Claws for the Nightmare Before Christmas concert in 2021. I think it was an added date.

@@charlessalzman4377 Yeah I saw that show last October for my birthday. His voice is so suited to Elfman’s music. He didn’t capture their sound as well on his style parody as he managed to capture Devo’s for “Dare to be Stupid” though but they’re a hard sound to capture since they were changing all the time.

    • @charlessalzman4377
      @charlessalzman4377 Год назад

@@nuclearcatbaby1131 the problem with capturing thier sound is you need to figure out which sound to do. I think he did a good job of getting somewhere between Wild Sex and Running on a Treadmill.
If you want to hear a band that captures thier sound check out Mary's Danish, Stuck in Wundertruck (I think that was the album name).
And if you want to see thier aesthetic check out the video for Martini Ranch's "How Can the Laboring Man Find Time for Self Culture"

You were kinda annoying me with the pauses, until I realized that you were catching the detail and genius of the band and Elfman. They can be over-the-top, and so most people either get turned off, or say revealing things like" this is So cool!!!" I have never heard anyone catch the progressive influence, and dig on the technical mastery, and really pay attention to the little quirks that Elfman throws in just to see if anyone really cares. And, no one has Ever said "This is going on my playlist" before the song was even done.
There were so many ways you could have failed here..... and you didn't. Thanks, man.
Edit: Just glanced into your playlist... no other Oingo Boingo reacts! Time's wasting! JK, thanks again.
