I remember accidentally downloading this, instead of the album version, back in the old Napster days. Consequently, this has always been the one I prefer.
i want to slap this drummer. WHY IS HE SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! prince was a genius for creating the drums on this but this drummer brought it to life. I feel like this is michael bland. i could be wrong but either way sheeesh!!!!!! EDIT: being the 80s likely bobby Z
@@Blogspierre this band was proto NPG, I’ve seen some refer to them as New Power Soul, others Camille. But either way, half the band became NPG anyway.
@@BlogspierreThis is Sheila E on drums, Levi Seacer on bass, Milo Weaver on guitar, Boni Boyer & Dr. Fink on keys, Eric Leeds & Atlanta Bliss on horns.
*Ahhhh Listen to that TAPE HISS!* .YOU CHILDREN HEAR THIS????! + Punchy, Clear, Full, Solid and the louder you turn it up the better it sounds! Now try that on PROT-TOOLS AND PRESONUS
@@tinpoh934 It's mislabelled. This is in fact the audio from a live performance on May 4, 2001, on Jay Leno. It's not from 1987 (although that's when both songs Ballad of Dorothy Parker and Four were originally released). The video of this performance was available for members of the NPGMC (NPG Music Club) via his website (it was the NPG Music Club Edition # 4). Prince (keyboard, vox), John Blackwell (drums), Rhonda Smith (bass), Kip Blackshire (keyboards, vox), Najee (flute, saxophone), Geneva (dance)
@@NewPaisleyGeneration U’re 100% mistaken my friend. I’ve watched the actual video of this performance countless times over the years and it’s the exact same recording. Absolutely. 100%. Sorry, my friend 🤷♂️. Plus if U (or any1 who’s a die hard) know what Shelia’s sound is like, it’s obvious it’s not her on drums. Ijs.
What a Band!
SOTT/Lovesexy Band really shines here

It’s Sheila E actually. And Levi Seacer on bass. They had been playing together for years when P had them replace the Revolution.
@joel2421 thank you!
Singing each and every word xX ...mmm. learned to sing all these sweeping my mamas house ..cleaning...helping the babies... Every day...4love xX 🎵💜😄
Wow what a great rendition of my favorite Prince song. I like how jazzy it is, NPG had chops for days. Totally differently vibe from the album
Says 1987 demo. NPG started in 1990. This is just Prince & Eric Leeds, I’d guess.
How do you have a favorite song

Great jazz version of a great funk song. I love love love them both. And the drummer is crushing it. Amazing! Thanks for posting this gem
Wow and this was live in 87.....💜💜💜💜💜
We Want MORE 🙏🙏🙏
Prince's most underrated mid-tempo song.....It would have been fun to listen to him convert more of his catalog to jazz interpretations......
Perfection
Simply a beautiful ballad..... Thanx once more 4 sharing, my dear.💜💜💜
My favorite song she laughed It was Joni singing, Help Me I think I’m falling …
I took another bubble bath, my fav.
Excellent musicianship!! In my opinion, the NPG band ran circles around all the others. Hands down. Thank you for posting!
This isn’t NPG, tho. They started in 1990. This is a 1987 demo.
Interesting, I so prefer the Revolution.
BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️
If Ballad Of DP were a Madhouse track.
Fantastic rehearsal. This is one of my most favorite songs by Prince! Thank u 4 sharing.💜💜🙏
Beautiful x

Four 😅🔥🔥
@@DJMoonWalker25 Thanks 🙏🏾
Is silver better than gold?
Great version but the album version is perfect.
Who is on drums?
On drums is the late John Blackwell...rip
The title says it’s 1987 so i assume it’s Sheila E.

Sean Parker. Wrong. It’s not this performance. It’s sound similar but it’s not the same.
It’s Sheila E. on drums.

This dude with a psycho
Wrong timing.
Prefer Album Versions he was a musician first and thats cool to play at a concert
Album versions are too “polished” at times and I love this version!
Sorry not wrong timing just not right.
Do you love the LoveSexy?
Was the lady cab driver , Dorothy Parker? 🤔
