I like Mustie 1's style; the way he talks to the audience like we are all hanging out with him in the garage. Great fabricator and nice guy! Keep up the good work!
What a cool Project! Made to be altered. Those of us who have customized cars really appreciate that. I was cutting and welding on cars and trucks since the 70s and this looks really fun. In my old age I really enjoy watching you use the technology available today that really makes it easy to get accurate results so easy! You are by far my favorite RUclips channel!
First time you showed us the Cushman I was not sure if it would hold my interest. Looked like a boring old pointless rust bucket. But your use of this little vehicle as a wrenching project is actually working out very well and I like what I see. I kept the faith and have not been disappointed. As ever thanks for sharing.
I would have no idea how to do what you just did...and that is why I find this fascinating to watch. And it really helps when you explain your thinking.
I never have any doubts with Mustie ! This guy turns rusty busted non running garbage into gold and makes it look easy. What I like the most is his attitude and how much he enjoys what he is doing . I always find myself cussing and getting aggravated when projects don't go as planned . But not Mustie. Or maybe he just edits that part out ? LOL .
I did not at first think I was going to like you making this Cushman rear box into one pick up truck style box. As I watched this video my opion changed and I really like what you are doing in this video.
Great progress, Darrin and as always I really enjoy the thought process, asking yourself the questions and then coming up with the answers. "Imagineering" is what I call it.
Are you kidding? Come back? We live for these videos! We will always come back! This may be one of the most watched of all your videos(I Ike them all). Who would have thunk a meter maid ride would be so interesting? I love it! Thankz
To the people saying he shouldn't have cut the cushman, he rescued it, he can do what he wants. If you would have done it differently, go rescue a cushman and show us how. It's easy to hide behind a screen and post comments, it's much harder to do the actual work and teach an entire community as you go. Keep up the good work Mustie1.
SnowLeopard Pearl the point is not that it now has life or not, the point is that it is no longer the vehicle he's saying it is. If I had it, it would have been restored, instead of being desicrated.
@ Minor League Gaming: Pretty sure they don't have them in Minecraft, so you probably couldn't "rescue it"....maybe there's a princess or a dragon you could rescue or "desicrate"?
I think it looks great. From the first time I saw you messing with the bed I was thinking it'd look great as a pickup. The cushman videos are my favorite series from my favorite channel right now. People complaining about cutting up "history" and what not, I mean, to each their own... but it's a Cushman, not a unicorn, and it would likely have rusted into oblivion if it hadn't been saved by Mustie. Even if you'd rather it had stayed in its original configuration, surely this is a more acceptable outcome then the thing being lost forever.
Pretty Freakin Kool!!! Your videos just fly by, no matter how long they are. About the only 30+ minute videos I can watch without hitting fast forward...Amazing work...
It looks so much better as a pickup. Union Carbide had a lot of these Cushmans running around both the plant here, and in Puerto Rico back in the 70's. They made one into a little welding truck for plant use. Anyway, I liked the fact the trunk is gone, and really enjoying this project.
Looks good. It's great that you're taking a vehicle that has a very limited field of use and giving it a second life as something vastly more functional while still keeping the basic aesthetics. The old version was fine for what it was intended for, but was just ungainly and weird for its new life. Nice work!
Doing great mustie. I really like the scenery you have been putting at the end of the videos beautiful up anytime of year but the winter scenes are very nice!!!
Everyone is commenting on how they are upset he cut it up. I have a feeling more people are just trying to run with that to irritate. Most of you are clearly having fun with this and that's a great thing to watch. That's a lot of the fun for me walking how much fun you have and how inventive you get. You're turning this into something that you want that you can use. This is a fun project for you and other people shouldn't dictate how that goes. Keep the videos coming
Love the meter maid. Been watching from the start. Love watching the making of the bed, helping give me some ideas for my projects. I have a 1986 Chevy suburban I'm going to be cleaning up, not a complete frame off restoration but close enough.
Looking good ! And it will be much more useful that way . Bending the front side panels down like that looks so much cleaner and just looks like that's how it should be. On the tailgate however I think I would have put the square tubing on the top of the top so it matches the sides and would give you a better more durable top edge to the tailgate . I assume you will be doing something with that lip on the top edge the way it is now . The only thing I would do now is make a removable cover (maybe black canvas with stainless steel button snaps ) for the bed so you can store things like tire , jack , groceries out of the weather but if you need an open bed it's easily removed. Love your videos ! Can't wait to see this thing going down the road and completed . It's going to be a cool , versatile , economical little ride with so many uses and possibility's . Nice save !
Tip for changing out upper dies in the press , keep a couple of welding magnets on the press . Also be easier to keep fingers out of harms way . I like where you are going with the Cushman . Thaks for letting us hang out in your shop .
Still NOT sure about this build, but will wait patiently for the end result keeping my faith in Mustie. Keep on cutting chopping, welding till your time of reveal........but don't take too long you're killing us with anticipation.
Nice, Mustie!! I'm glad it worked out and you were able to bend up those small panels, it really made all the difference...the devil's in the details in this case.
I can not believe the negativity. It belongs to you, as such do what you want with it. We are but along for the journey. You are making it suitable to your needs. We have all seen your custom work and love it. Keep up the grand videos.
I'm guessing that on Antiques Roadshow 100 years from now, this piece will be worth more than the others because of the work of that famous US craftsman Mustie1.
Mustie thanks for the video, the video sounds better., starting to look like you got it!, the neat thing was you didn't freeze to a Mustie pop!! The Whole Dam thing was pretty cool to see!! Definitely a Artist at work looking forward the next adventure!!
It's looking good, I don't know if you read the comments, but I suggested that you modify the bed to haul your cool bikes around. Looking forward to the next video.
This is AWESOME!! Have been watching from the start of this project, and i'd have to say this looks amazing, really digging the route you went with it, keep up the great work! 🚨🚔
Personally I would of kept it original as that's just what I like, but I like the idea of what you're doing with it and it looks like it's going to turn out really well and looks good, can't wait to see the final result. I recon there will be some police mechanic who use to repair these watching and thinking what are you doing.
eehh, what the heck. modifications approved! first i was pretty hesitating of the fact on doeing that cutting on the bed. but indeed its on you to deside whats goeing to happen with it, and i am shure it's goeing to be awesome.👍✌️ we cant forget what would become of it iff you did not got your hands on it, it probably would be scrap by now. and i think with the rattlecans you will relic the naked steel perfectly. my experience is that white woodglue will activate rust a bit quicker, maybe thin that a bit with vinegar and then concerve to preserve it again like you did on Crustie. you may proceed. maybe thats a nice line line for the side: not "to protect and serve" but "concerve to preserve" or "conserved to protect"
HI Mustie you do a great with all the machinery that you save I enjoy watching you do the repairs. You could have just drilled the spot welds and use the holes to plug weld them to the box section. Great project.
I remember maybe about a year ago I discovered your channel. I was watching roadking and either he suggested it or youtube did. I was pissed when I finally caught up and had to wait for videos. LOL keep up the great work.
Best bet would be to run 1``x 1``along the bottom to support the hinge, plus a couple more in the bed to support your bikes. But that`s just my opinion, Looking Good !
Nice job. This'll be the coolest DogPound PickUp ever made. Changed back to the old cam again? The last video had really bad sound, but now it's back to normal. Are you going to use the lid as a full cover for the bed? If that's the idea i'd suggest slide hinges in the front (you know the ones for a removable trailergate), and over-pivot latches on the inside of the gate. Extend the lid and you'll be able to lock it. Love your Channel and your excellent projects. I do like hanging out in the garage with you. Best regards from Odin in Norway.
I'm loving this so much!!! Thank you once again for spreading you'r knowledge an wisdom with us. Hey just a suggestion , and I don't know if someone said this already, but why not just cover the lower part of the bed area? Keep the metal that's there on the sides and just fill in the lower part of it........
Great modifications, like the new look. Getting ready for the first blizzard of 2018 here, stay warm, be safe. Much better camera focus and sound in this video, sorry the other rig didn't work out for ya Doug
Hey Mustie1, love the videos. Keen watcher here in the UK. I know this comment is a bit late but you should have removed the two side panels that were too tall, cut to size with a 45deg cut on the fold atop the front panel on the roofless box and folded each out to be new sides without having the need to weld. Comments like mine are great, much like closing the gate after the horse has already bolted, lol
I think this is great. I can just picture you bombing down the street with your bike in back. I am in the process of bringing a 71 Arctic Cat snowmobile back to life. Should have it running this week. Lots of snow here in central Nova Scotia.
I actually find myself talking to you as you work. (chuckle, chuckle) Maybe think about stops made of flat stock, attached to the back of the box's square tubing, 1/4" to 3/8" protrusion, for the ends of the tailgate to bump against. Also, I get a kick out of the keep-it-original comments, as if it would be worth a million dollars to a Blue Cushman Meter Maid Collector because all the "numbers match." It's looking great and I can hardly wait to see it fitted with a ramp for your bikes. Don't forget to shoot it with a satin or flat clear when you're done. It'll be around longer that way. Keep on truckin'.
Bloody hell mustie, you got a hell of a lot done, i can see how usefull it will be :-D. And it looks almost the same, i bet when its finished and painted/smoothed it will look spot on :-D. Great job so far, it will be strong.
Really nice work, Mustie, in planning & laying out what metal must be worked to give you a solid pickup box & tailgate. Outstanding mechanical problem determination and resolution skills! Oh, and Happy New Year 2022!
You could cut the side pieces off and put a piece of square tubing at the bottom of the sides and then build a few hinges out of 1/2 inch round stock and 1/2 inch pipe. Put the hinge on the outside and then be able to drop the sides down or take them off. From the outside it would not greatly affect the looks but it would give the vehicle a lot useful options. On top of that it would be a lot like VW trucks.
Ha! I have that same exact thermometer setup. What's ironic is that I started watching the video exactly 24hrs after you filmed it yesterday. Too bad I couldn't post a pic (I took one for proof). A little extra work you could have made the sides fold down like Crusty. Possibly even, you could also utilize the boxes in the bed floor by adding doors above them, then you have some extra hidden storage space's in the bed. Either way, I like where your going with it Darren, thanks for sharing. -Jason
You can turn "POLICE" into "POLITE" by covering the "C" with a "T". Just a thought. Loving the Cushman project Mr. Mustie. I might have cut off bottom 6"-10" of the sides to lower them and eliminate the rot. But then you'd need a wider brake. I think it would look cool with lower sides, plus it shows off more of the bikes. Just my $.02.
I like Mustie 1's style; the way he talks to the audience like we are all hanging out with him in the garage. Great fabricator and nice guy! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Musti1 love your work and the way you speak to us ,it really feels like we're there in a buddy's garage. Keep up the creativity 😎

I, too, was a little apprehensive about cutting it, but I do like the result so far! Thanks for letting us hang out in your garage.
I would have no idea how to do what you just did...and that is why I find this fascinating to watch. And it really helps when you explain your thinking.
I could watch your videos all day long. But unfortunately I'm right up to date. Looking forward to the next one.
You are really showing your expertise talent with the Cushman. Awesome job and keep up with the videos, I am enjoying them.
I had my doubts about how that would turn out but you proved me wrong! ...Nice work!
LOL .
It's the blue taped fingers that count.
Haha, I was feeling the same way.
I did not at first think I was going to like you making this Cushman rear box into one pick up truck style box. As I watched this video my opion changed and I really like what you are doing in this video.
Excellent work! Like how you decided to keep as much of the original metal and the patina!
I love how you saved the original look-well done!
Great progress, Darrin and as always I really enjoy the thought process, asking yourself the questions and then coming up with the answers. "Imagineering" is what I call it.
Nice realisation ! The lines are more gracious and you kept both the original spirit and the patina. 👍🏻 Love this cushman !
Are you kidding? Come back? We live for these videos! We will always come back! This may be one of the most watched of all your videos(I Ike them all). Who would have thunk a meter maid ride would be so interesting? I love it! Thankz

by chopping it it is no longer rescued.
he could of left it to rot in the field and leave it for the mice to turn it into dust
SnowLeopard Pearl the point is not that it now has life or not, the point is that it is no longer the vehicle he's saying it is. If I had it, it would have been restored, instead of being desicrated.
To be honest, it was trash when he started. The purists are totally insane in this case.
@ Minor League Gaming: Pretty sure they don't have them in Minecraft, so you probably couldn't "rescue it"....maybe there's a princess or a dragon you could rescue or "desicrate"?

This is one of the best videos on this project yet. Thanks Mustie1!

I love how you used the original parts to make the pickup bed, awesome mini truck.
Was perturbed by the flat bed idea. Like the the standard look you went with. Great work Mustie!
Actually liking it so far, I would have thought a flat deck would have looked better but your plan is really growing on me. So thumbs up bro.
I can not believe the negativity.
It belongs to you, as such do what you want with it.
We are but along for the journey.
You are making it suitable to your needs.
We have all seen your custom work and love it.
Keep up the grand videos.
Wasnt a fan of cutting up the box but that turned out great. You nailed it! Looks awesome!
love the bed design Mustie, i couldn't have done better myself! Your right on point with it.
As usual you are the great thinker teach. It’s really looking good. Cold here in Indiana also.
Good weekend to stay in and fab. Show us some pics of the area after your blizzard, and good luck
Wow, this is looking great, Mustie! Looking forward to more videos!
I have to hand it to you my friend. You are an excellent fabricator.
just finished watching the rest off this vid, its looking great, and looking factory wich i really like. great work mustie.
Looks way better than I expected. I really like it.
I think the bikes in the BACK of the cushman in the BACK of crusty will shut DOWN any car show! GREAT JOB! 😍
now l need a big old antique flat bed truck to put it all on,
I'm guessing that on Antiques Roadshow 100 years from now, this piece will be worth more than the others because of the work of that famous US craftsman Mustie1.
Mustie thanks for the video, the video sounds better., starting to look like you got it!, the neat thing was you didn't freeze to a Mustie pop!! The Whole Dam thing was pretty cool to see!! Definitely a Artist at work looking forward the next adventure!!
Nice to see you are using as many of the original panels as possible.
It's looking good, I don't know if you read the comments, but I suggested that you modify the bed to haul your cool bikes around. Looking forward to the next video.
I think the value of this has more than doubled becoming a pick up,Good Job!
Nice work! Glad you bent those forward side panels, that made a big difference. Very professional job.
Your really good at this. Your making it look like it was always like that, and you make it look easy.
This is AWESOME!! Have been watching from the start of this project, and i'd have to say this looks amazing, really digging the route you went with it, keep up the great work! 🚨🚔
This series has been a blast!
really nice work, bed of vehicle is so much more functional , great build

Awesome Mustie, you are making it better than it was. I like the way you noodle things through.
I love the way you make me talk to my computer YOU dont listen but i still tell ya thanks love the work you do and the way you ask us
Great thinking outside the box and great job so far.
Enjoyable watch the work you're doing on the project..nice job👍
I was a doubter , its really cool ! way more functional , great job !
Incredible job, didn’t destroy the look.. or the paint... great talent! Great vid.... Happy New Year
I'm picturing sort of a mini Crustie when you're done. This is going to be a fun vehicle!
eehh, what the heck. modifications approved!
first i was pretty hesitating of the fact on doeing that cutting on the bed.
but indeed its on you to deside whats goeing to happen with it, and i am shure it's goeing to be awesome.👍✌️
we cant forget what would become of it iff you did not got your hands on it, it probably would be scrap by now. and i think with the rattlecans you will relic the naked steel perfectly. my experience is that white woodglue will activate rust a bit quicker, maybe thin that a bit with vinegar and then concerve to preserve it again like you did on Crustie.
you may proceed.
maybe thats a nice line line for the side: not "to protect and serve" but "concerve to preserve" or "conserved to protect"
Excellent work hope your back gets better
Looks better than before great job God bless
HI Mustie you do a great with all the machinery that you save I enjoy watching you do the repairs. You could have just drilled the spot welds and use the holes to plug weld them to the box section. Great project.
yeah but there was like a hundred of them every half inch
really cool series - thanks for sharing
I remember maybe about a year ago I discovered your channel. I was watching roadking and either he suggested it or youtube did. I was pissed when I finally caught up and had to wait for videos. LOL keep up the great work.
Liking whats changing on the back great to turn something into what you need for one off a kind
that thing looks so much better as a pickup. Good choice
Reconstruction of the Cushman meter maid, going very well Mustie, love to see that ! 💥😲💥😲💥😲💥😲💥
except now it's not a meter maid, and thus not a reconstruction.
its a pro mod. it 'll be fine.
Best bet would be to run 1``x 1``along the bottom to support the hinge, plus a couple more in the bed to support your bikes. But that`s just my opinion, Looking Good !
I think that would be a good idea, but i think he will do that anyway
Wow !! You turned it into a pick up..cool..
Looks great, coming along nicely! I like this little project. Guuud stuff man
-Pidge
Awsome. Can't wait to see more!! Be safe and have a great new year
Has a nice look to it now. Blend in some blue paint.. Perfect!
Happy new year to everyone
Nice job so far sir, keep it up and thanks for the hard work you put in to share your time and projects with us..
Love the back to back. Video's.
Much better camera focus and sound in this video, sorry the other rig didn't work out for ya
Doug
Love it, I would now frame the bed to march the cab and cover it with canvas, you know WW2 2 1/2 ton truck style. I'm sure you have something in mind.
This is definitely a better look and when you get done with it will be a lot stronger.
Well done man! Its a cold beast here in sjersey this morning it was around 8. Come on spring lets go !!
Perfectionist! I would have left it, but I like your bender not to mention the plasma cutter,
Hey Mustie1, love the videos.
Great series! I'm really enjoying it.
I would do the floor first then you can make the Tailgate match, love your work and love the Meter maid. Keep up the good work.
I'm enjoying the Cushman I can't wait to see what you're going to do about the tailgate latch
Nice one Mustie Always look forward to your vids UK Pete
You could cut the side pieces off and put a piece of square tubing at the bottom of the sides and then build a few hinges out of 1/2 inch round stock and 1/2 inch pipe. Loving the Cushman project Mr. Mustie. I might have cut off bottom 6"-10" of the sides to lower them and eliminate the rot.
But then you'd need a wider brake. I think it would look cool with lower sides, plus it shows off more of the bikes. Just my $.02.
Or he could wet-sand off the P and the O and watch people give him a wide berth. "Hot damn, you say that thing's full of what?!?"
That looks really good. I knew you could fix it up nice.
I like fun projects, this one seems to be a lot of work for a tricked out meter maid vehicle. Hope the paint jobs makes it look smokin
You should name the Cushman "Crustina" since it's like Crusty's daughter.
Ill tell you what, your a hell of a fabricator. That's awsome!
