This doesn't have to be complicated. Just remove the income cap on Social Security. Include Social Security taxes on bonuses, stocks, and dividends. If any of the people earning all that money suddenly went broke and were over 65 or became disabled they would still draw Social Security. Also, anyone receiving benefits over 7 years should no longer be reviewed and receive a non review letter. It would help eliminate some unnecessary administrative costs and rework. Finally, allow everyone to work and earn as much as they can without any negative impact or loss of income after the 10 year benefit mark. It's not likely that anyone with chronic health issues could sustain permanent employment in the long term, and whatever they earned would be taxed anyway. That would encourage people to try to work at something without the fear and stress of losing their income if one of their conditions worsened or relapsed. These measures would permanently remove the threat of insolvency and simultaneously pull millions of beneficiaries out of poverty. Just a thought.
I'd much rather a 1 time sustainable raise than measly COLA's that aren't even done yearly and COLA's that are done affects SNAP, Medicaid, Housing and a host of other benefits. It's all dependent on their definition of inflation. We MIGHT see a 3% COLA this year.
