For those who are curious its the TPS65982 Chip first launched mid 2015, guess its the first gen. USB C Power Management Chip...
hopefully manufactures will use other chips for current systems
@@LeoL123 yes, from TI
No shortcuts to gain experience, it takes time. Love from INDIA.
We like cheating the system but nobody can cheat the way to getting real experience. You have to walk the journey
So true.. 💯
Wow, a heart! Awesome awesome.
Seems like a easy fix but it's not, only easy for experienced people!! Great job Sir
Cool! It's nice to hear someone from the USA use the metric system for a change!
(03:37 : 440 degrees celsius).
It dependes on the gagets ur using, if it registers Celsius or foreignheight😆,
I lovet that!
The way you are confident with what you do is amazing. Sometimes I look at you changing components without testing and I am like doesn't he worry about the expenses. At the end of the day the result is mostly favourable.
I watch your videos daily and am amazed at the way you work, please don't stop making these videos .
Wow, just WOW! Don't spend your money on a 1 year course learning electronics repair, just watch this guy and absorb the knowledge!!!
Hi Mr. Alex since 2018 i really watch your videos about repairs that you do and not only that you teach viewers about almost everything in business in dealing angry customers techniques in dealing difficult situations etc., i just love the way you handle everything and i learned a lot from you i cant write it here in detail but everyone knows your truly amazing man. Im a technician here in our place in Mindanao Philippines but not as god as you are now but i keep on giving my all and applying what i learned from you i mean THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
It’s just a sad story for people that spend money on their devices and they are buying garbage, I got a lot in my store every day too to repair
I think Repairing garbage u earn a Lot unfortunate that companies don't God bless you
It’s my life thank you
@@gblargg it happens randomly some in warranty others after and even with original it’s uncertain some of them no problems the date
@@gblargg less than 0.1%
@@gblargg i have no idea, likely no one besides the internal testing team of these companies has any idea, and they absolutely would not publish it

I like the big smile and satisfaction after the job is done and the laptop is working again.
All your videos are amazing and the way you work is amazing. I follow all your videos and learn every day.🇩🇿🇩🇿
Thing from outer space, love it! Thank you for your channel its great! Found the other day what looked like a little part of wasp nest on a GPU board. Keep up the great work! There is not many people in South Africa still doing these kin of repairs especially at your skill level.
Wow!!! Fantastic video. Pretty soon I will be getting my hot air station, linear power supply, tweezers, soldering iron etc. I may order the amtech flux from your website. I've been fixing laptops but just general stuff, ranging from software, hard drive, upgrades, board, screen and keyboard replacement. With a BSc in electrical and computer engineering and background in digital electronics, I believe that I able to take my repairs (hobby) to another level. Your videos have proven to be an inspiration to me. Gob bless
I have a 2016 MBP which has only had the screen and battery replaced under warranty, so far nothing has been wrong via the USB-C ports. Thanks again for showing your hard work.
Don’t even own a solder gun but after a week of watching you I think I’m ready to commit and buy one
With experience is 10 min job, without it, minimum couple of hours. Great job
Moral of the story is experience and perseverance makes work easier. Good work brother.
That was fast Mr. I love the way you smile when the outcome is favorable and the way you look stressed out whenever a board gives you cat mouse chase...
You're very awesome...best repair channel indeed. Subscriber from PH
Another great video proves that there’s nothing better than experience
You sir is a true meaning of Professional Electronics Technician. KUDOS to the Whole Family
Another top quailty repair job 👏
Familiar Chip identified by experience...
Experience clearly is a Diamond...
Thanks for the video. Great fix...
Your experience is the bomb you know your motherboard bro
TPS65982/TPS65986 same as CD3215x in Apple devices except for the I2C addresses. The TPS65982 and TPS65986 are chips from TI that try to do everything for USBC ports. It controls whether the port is a charging port, a USB port and with external switches the port can be thunderbolt or display out. It is a power and data multiplexer and there can be more than one of these if there are more USBC ports. The master chip connects to a flash chip that holds the TI boot code and configuration for each port and the secondary chips communicate with the master chip to get their individual configurations.
One problem with these chips seems to be the internal LDO regulators and related switching. If they did away with all the external set resistors they could eliminate the analog tests and analog 1.8v rail to simplify the chip. And if all of these internal LDO regulators were separated out to an external chip that ran off of the USB ports VBUS it would make the switching part of the multiplexer more reliable and the entire system easier to repair. It would be two chips instead of one or one multiple output switching regulator chip with its input tied to all USBC ports VBUS via diodes to power each mux chip. The internal LDO_3V3 rail is only meant to supply enough current at startup for the chip to boot and use the external flash device that stores the programming and then it needs to switch from the internal LDO_3V3 over to the external VIN_3V3 supply. If it fails to switch from the internal LDO then it eventually fails. Having the voltage rails supplied by a single external chip and not needing those damn external set resistors would be the ideal setup.
Thanks for showing the bga removal in real time with the temp and flow information I think that will help a lot of people including myself. First gpu bga tryed I I bbqed it and it delaminated bubble on top of it. I think I had the heat in one place to long trying to grab something else.
After physical inspection no need to check any damage components just assume the damaged one and remove but it correctly with no failed. Great
No short circuit test, no thermal camera, no multimeter - fortune teller. Good job
"This motherboard is a joke" 😂
Experience is very useful, case in point in this repair. Sadly you cant bottle a sell experience.
We have opponents for RTR with the notion of "it's too hard to fix." They just continue to buy the same garbage that is "hard to fix" without question. Yet, when proposing something repairable it's always "it'll cost too much" despite the fact their device cost $2k. /endrant. -- You're amazing brother. As Eric O from South Main Auto says "some days I rather be lucky than good" but I guess you have both here :)
Question: how likely is it that you replaced this frequently failing chip for a costumer and it fails again?
I mean is there different qualities and manufacturers for this particular chip?
We never got a single laptop back for the same faulty IC after it was replaced, but it could happen. Same goes for Retimer chips on xBox x
@@NorthridgeFix wondering to know the same question. Thanks for the answer.
Same here since the ic was replaced with new one🤔 how is it likely to fail again🤔
Nice question.
@@optimizelogicrepair2784 bro, the genuine chip is garbage in this case. are you just spouting meaningless generalities?
No power ? No problem ! Northrridge fix everything
This is what happens when you take it to the right shop the first time keep up the good work Alex God bless👍🏼
Congratulation Alex, you are doing the job very delicately, very precisely, like an expert and always "Better than factory"... 😊
Wow that's amazing, I also want to fix board level repair soon when I can afford to buy some tool. As of now I love watching you're video man I learned a lot. Love from PH❤️🇵🇭
This channel is my online electronics university. I admire your work n it’s an art.
Working with experience. Big man you inspire me a lot. #lovenorthridgefix
Your experience is the most valuable
Interesting to see that this Asus motherboard is so small. Thought USB-C was the new thing only to see so many problems with it. Guess older is better. Nice Fix.
Experience is crucial in this line of work 👍🏻
Experience wins again, thanks for sharing your knowledge
I hope i can think like that, fix everything without always measure anything everytime i want a fix something, you're great bro
That's a prof that experience is the best teacher. Bravo to you Sir Alex
R&D @HP should contact Northridge Fix on how to design a labtop that isn't prone to failure on exact same part everytime.
That customer will be more than happy for sure
it's a pleasuse to see everyday a new video and learning each time something. thank you so much :) as always greetings from italy
Amazing work man... Don't work hard ! Work SMART !
Thank you for the amazing help you provide Alex. I fixed a HP pavilion desktop today. Shorted cap just to the left of the power Jack. At first I replaced the power Jack because I smelt burning but when I connected the power cord the charging brick made a very soft beep or squeak so that’s a short. Watched a previous video of yours and hey presto a short next to the mosfat. A world of thanks and may Irish luck be with you whatever you do.
Great fix, great experience with that chip. You wonder did the manufacturer use this chip on purpose and know that it will fail someday to make some profit for repair using their repair service center.
amazing BGA rework Alex, Knowledge and Experience is king, keep it up mate, also that cheeky smile when u say big boss has reassembled it, we all know whats coming, a working unit and a bigger smile
I wish you monitor the chip with the thermal cam under load after the fix, since this chip always fails, maybe what is making this chip fail is excessive heat, so you can prevent this chip from failing in the future by maybe adding a heatsink with some extra cost.
as always thank you for sharing.
Experience is KING , makes it quick and easy
Very nice! Appreciate you mentioning the Temps used!
Sir i don't repair laptops only playstations and controllers but sir you are amazing how can you work on every electronic thing ماشاءالله تبارك الله
Nothing beat experience. You have skill you have talent but if you have experience everything lift to another level. Great video as always. I like the way you said , awesome awesome, solid... Watch every video even my job have no relation to soldering LOL
Wow.. Definitivamente esa tarjeta madre es diminuta... Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos...
Would be nice if you could make a list almost of laptops that are worth the money - i.e. don't use known bad components, are easy to fix etc. I'm sure it would be a great help to many people!
It's nice to see you're able to buy the replacement chips for these made to fail boards though. Apple needs to take note here
Great job
a big strong experience is your force ! Felicitations !
That educated guess took some years to master. Thank you for sharing sir Alex! Awesome repair.
That is crazy, why use a chip that is known for having issues, the quality today is very low. That thing can hardly be called laptop. The job is great you're skills in soldering are amazing .
Everything now days are sadly built to planned obsolescence.
experience is king when it comes to some repairs.
Experience comes and saves the day 👌
And again..... Another day another add up to my knowledge.... Thanks man
Good experience lot's off love from south Africa 🇿🇦❤

A man with experience. Well done.
You completely amaze me the way you make a repair look easy while not. Big up your good job bro!
It's all about experience... Great work!
Experience is the best to have. You are so super 👍
Before replacing, you may have checked the capacitors. A quick test would give you more confidence.
Nice and easy work ... I would like longer videos ... I really like your works...
Wish i had half of your experience sr. Great job!
It is all about experience...well done!
Appreciated u mentioning air temps and speed. It is crucial for learning.
If I can I copy your work and practice on rubbish boards all the time and this helps me to get better.
Btw I just bought good airflow station.
Can't wait for it to be delivered.
So much to learn.
Did a great job as always but your smile will be always priceless😊💐👏👏👏👏
Alex, you always make it look so easy. Great job done again by Northridge Fix. Keep up the great work.

You make it look so easy ! Another brilliant video 👍
Those chips are used on Lenovos too. Had to replace that same chip on wife's X1 Yoga
Experience is key to success in any job education is just your passport 👌 great job 👏
Experience is the most valuable asset 👍
Bro you so good, you don't have a need for magic wand.
Experience wins everytime. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
You should test the new Aoyue micro hot tweezers that are like $60 that go with their new station. It’s not the large ones that have been around for a while they have a new one with direct drive tips. The hand piece and station you can get for under $150. If they work well it’s a game changer for those of us without a lot of money but still too much to take a chance on if they don’t work..
good job as usual, and in the case of similar laptop models, the same IC is damaged as standard :)
your expertise prevails once again
Again better then factory :D
Experience at its glory all the way. Great video.
Nice fix. Its a shame that manufacturers making rubbish these days.
