it is somehow frustrating that most of the times the repair is incredibly simple (not counting the troubleshooting skills), it is such a shame that countless simple to fix devices are thrown away
Not counting the troubleshooting skills its also knowing to heat the board up from the bottom so that cap doesn’t shoot your eye out or what if one of those caps he removed entered the 7th dimension you have to know how to figure out what goes back there and not that its just a cap but what package and what capacitance goes back and I’m just getting started take that board heat it up then bump those parts and mix them up and not have a schematic and good luck getting it back together caps change resistance tolerances also when they are in circuit and vice verse I’m sure you are getting the picture by now
Hi Alex.. can U show us how to apply heat from the bottom of the board during removing/installing components? Please advise what is recommended temp too.. ty
Good process of elimination. There was me thinking it was the chip that was water damaged. Need to get a better wite brush like yours, mine is just about done.
Very good, nice try and error work, like oldschool. Nice fix. Maybe someday you could show us the 9th dimension, were all the parts are gone. Would be interesting to see whats going on over there😂 thank you for the video. Greets
Hey boss, when heating from underneath the board, what temp do you set your hot air to? 400 still?, id like to try that technique, im self taught, and typically if im doing a repair real close to an aluminum cap, I cover it with some modeling clay /play doh, and put a more concentrated tip on. Thanks again, you shoukd start a patreon, im gonna order a bunch of stuff i dont need from your site, because you've taught me so much
650 or 700 F should handle a PS4 board no problem, depending on how well your iron compensates heat dispersion on ground planes. Having hot air or a board heater greatly helps though.
Another great video. But what about for a video, for a laptop, powered but not turning on, the fan is not spinning. Or powered on, the fan spins, but does not turn on.
What i think is, when the Laptop is working then the tea was spilled, the water goes through then made a connection with the components to cause short circuit right?
Ok I'm not sure if I have a power port problem. My G751J will power maybe one sec then turn off no screen. Battery light will blink then go solid after a few moments. I'm getting continuity though out the board. Any suggestions as to approach this repair?
For me it's all magic. Every time I'm trying to fix some motherboard, I'm trying all different things and it never works. I know electronics, workings of various devices, but I still can't seem to be able to fix a single motherboard.
There are times when you are diagnosing a board but and you do a random look and test of components but don't begin with the thermal camera which to me, would be the obvious first step after a look for damaged components. Also, What is that white stuff!!!??? I must know, the suspense is killing me!!! Tell me please!!!! OH, am I being too demanding? Just kidding. After watching to the end I see that you were just showing us that you could find the problem without going thermal. That was a very good and surprising ending. And I 'm suspecting that that white stuff is some kind of thermal paste? maybe? as I saw you trying to put some back on the mosfets.
Hi , on this Monday my Asus ROG Zephyrus 5A502DU is totally ded, so sign of charge led , battery allsow is dead, i measure to fix the battery, after i plagged the battery cable to the motherboard and put it to charge i tried to power on, but nothing, the battery got instantly dead, , what could it be?
*1:40* _That was the silica gel desiccant that the customer mentioned in their note._ 👍
Forgetting hes under a microscope I swore it was an orbie
6:31 "Okay, done. Those caps are soldered down perfectly" :)
You made my laugh out loud.
I'd love to see everything that's now in the 9th dimension!
One way ticket. Lol
A bunch of 10mm sockets
Lots of screws that fall of work benches
I hate when I spill laptop on laptop 😂 great video as always
Mmmm that bubble looked like a silica gel 🤔. Those accidents with liquid are difficult ones, clean or a mess. Nice job as always.
I thought the same, silica from a dessicant pack.
Or perhaps bubble tea was spilled and that's a dried out bubble. 😅
That smile @ 15.46 sys it all! You continue to amaze. Awesome.
Always surprise me how fast do you find the fail component... Amazing!!! like always... Another "EASY FIX"
Yeah Easy fix when you know how to find it lol. Amazing as always though
iy i
iy
@@leemajors3834 Of course. Without knowledge and experience nothing is easy. I did write "easy fix" for those ppl that say it.
God of repair... 😍😍Love form India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Thanks, Alex! Needed a good laugh today. Referring to "both caps are soldered on perfectly".
it is somehow frustrating that most of the times the repair is incredibly simple (not counting the troubleshooting skills), it is such a shame that countless simple to fix devices are thrown away
agreed. most of them can be fix.
this is already replacing subcomponent territory. most fixes don't require replacement at all.
True. I have 1 Samsung J710 motherboard that I cant find the problem ... 2 shorted caps..
Not counting the troubleshooting skills its also knowing to heat the board up from the bottom so that cap doesn’t shoot your eye out or what if one of those caps he removed entered the 7th dimension you have to know how to figure out what goes back there and not that its just a cap but what package and what capacitance goes back and I’m just getting started take that board heat it up then bump those parts and mix them up and not have a schematic and good luck getting it back together caps change resistance tolerances also when they are in circuit and vice verse I’m sure you are getting the picture by now
Just curious if use ultrasonic cleaners at all?
Great work as usual. Question, the thermal cam that is your website, is it comparable to the Flir that you use as far as pinpointing a heatspot?
These are great videos to watch if you don’t do component level troubleshooting on a regular basis. Excellent work!!!
Hi Alex.. can U show us how to apply heat from the bottom of the board during removing/installing components? Please advise what is recommended temp too.. ty
I think putting Thermal Adhesive Tape on those MOSFET is better than White Thermal Grease that already there. Great video as always!
Troubleshooting techniques of your is amaizing until you realize its matter of experience on working on different devices
I think I heard almost all the great one-liners in this video
Alex sometimes does really very funny humor or jokes 😄 😆 🤣
Good process of elimination. There was me thinking it was the chip that was water damaged. Need to get a better wite brush like yours, mine is just about done.
6:30 = better than factory 😁😁
Definitely
very good work as usual i am so happy to see this repair with only use a multi meter thanks again
Man when he soldered those two caps together and said done I almost pissed myself. That was funny as hell 🤣
As always you are top of the line with your board skills, Thank you for sharing
Merry Christmas Alex, waiting for more videos!!!
Very good, nice try and error work, like oldschool. Nice fix.
Maybe someday you could show us the 9th dimension, were all the parts are gone. Would be interesting to see whats going on over there😂 thank you for the video. Greets
Have learned alot watching your videos. Would of never knew that about the factory Flux. I would of just figured that it was excess from the factory.
Most manufacturers leave the no-clean flux on them
Good job as always, That is a great little laptop, I have the same model (now with the 980M because I blew up the original mobo LOL).
Laptop spilled on the laptop = Holiday mode still enabled
Excellent job.even if the mosphet is (hidden),our great man found it easily.thank you ALEX.
Great job again ..where did you get that mosfet is it from a donor or are they new
pretty sure he has a stock of those in inventory
@@Adonis513 but the chip looks brand new

The power of visual inspection
great fix alex good old simple diagnostics pleasure to watch ..... thermal cam and voltage injection into the 9th dimention on this fix ....
I have that same model laptop. Great system. Awesome channel
i learn a lot with you ,god bless you bro
Hi awesome job I'm a big fan I have a question
What temperature do you use for thick boards like laptops or PS4?
650 or 700 F should handle a PS4 board no problem, depending on how well your iron compensates heat dispersion on ground planes. Having hot air or a board heater greatly helps though.
Another great video. But what about for a video, for a laptop, powered but not turning on, the fan is not spinning.
Or powered on, the fan spins, but does not turn on.
Love you brother
I am from Bangladesh
And you are my idol
I want make myself like you
God bless you
Always a new experience and a worth lesson.
Did you hold your probes with your eyeballs to do that visual inspection?
repair skills👍👍👍👍
Can i have the link for the hot tweezerl
How do you know what's the concrete "type" of the replacement mosfet? Do you have a mosfet collection?
BTW, the bubble at 1:37 is part of the dessicant the customer mentioned using...
I've watched many of your videos, when you say apply heat from the bottom are you just hanging the board over the edge of the table?
Why dont you use capton tape to avoid heat on capacitor?
hey love your videos. just im a bit sad i cant see the measurements results
sir ...you are very good at your work and i subscribed to your channel it's very helpful , thank you
That weird bubble was no doubt a piece of the silica desiccant that he mentioned in the note.
great video, thanks for share!, grettings from México
Can u introduce the soldering gun u use? The plier type Thx
if not work plz check one of these tiny filters where the dark soot was , i suspect a blown filter in this area and it is probably its soot
What is the white stuff you pealed back off the mosfet and applied it again at the end? Is that thermal paste?
6:32 I started to have a headache
6:48 Painkillers applied
7:09 Something stopped the pain
Giggled at 6:33 😊
"OK, done. Those caps are soldered down perfectly."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
where do you get that soldering tweezers thing you took the cap off with?
2:45
why are the traces in a squiggle pattern? Does that have a function?
Yes. Length of some traces must be matched for high speed connections for example between CPU and RAM so that bits arrive at the correct time.
Putting that ice cream back on the mosfets… LOL
Ninth dimension is alex's storage for wild spare parts. :)))))
You never did a video on black pasted ic. Plz make a video so that we learn from you more.
emazing emazing emazing
excellent videos, amazing skills i learned a lot thumbs up bro
Nice investigational work.
What i think is, when the Laptop is working then the tea was spilled, the water goes through then made a connection with the components to cause short circuit right?
well done cheers👍
Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🙏🏻🙏🏻😍😍💋💋💋
Soldering ASMR :)
Love your videos. I've learned a lot! Thanks.
Awesome job bro keep rocking bro 👍👍👍
laptop spilled on the laptop hahaha its cool bro im not laughing im just happy,,, im a big fan sir
keep up
Can you guide me on repairs of flash circuit board which is showing short but unable to detect particular component
good job mate.
y dnt u use hot twitters to put back caps?
You are the 🐐
Those caps are soldered on perfectly 😂😂😂😂
Awesome
Man thanks for sharing.
looks like the cap let out smoke @13:54-13:57
Good eye
I hope Alex sees this in case the laptop still has issues when reassembled for test.

oh man that has to have been alot of heat generated to melt those thermal pads
For me it's all magic. Every time I'm trying to fix some motherboard, I'm trying all different things and it never works. I know electronics, workings of various devices, but I still can't seem to be able to fix a single motherboard.
Does it runs afterwards?
I need a round trip ticket to the 9th dimension to find all my missing components
Very good job 👏 👍 👌
1:40 ot is udes to dry stuff since it sucks up much liquid althoughit OS very tiny
7:19 what was that brush? I couldnt quite hear what he said
a fine steel brush
What is that white stuff and what for ?.
Good Job
That bubble might be piece of the silica beads to dry liquid spilled.
one more camera for multimeter pls
11:15 release the schmoo!
So great tnx a lot
The black stuff is Copper Sulphide.
nice Vedio ☮️👍
Super
