  • Here is part 1 of 2 in a series documenting my entry in to our That 70's Build. I am building the Tamiya Pak 40 from 1975. In this video I go through the sprues and instructions and finish assembly.
Part 2 will deal with priming, base paint and all weathering.

I've built a boat load of these. and loved them. crew needed work but after removing all belts and straps, added toothpaste tube straps, they even started to look up. really cool adam.

When this kit appeared, it was actually very good representation of PaK 40. It had obvious problems, comparing to today's standards, but with a simple change of a barrel, it looked pretty amazing. I have very fond memories of building and painting several of them for me and my friends and what I like the most about the old Tamiya kits is they always put the crew figures in the box.

i actually love these old Tamiya kits. modern kits intimidate me. (besides if kit ends bad, i blame the kit)

Good kit for the nostalgia build. Love the Tamiya Pak 40 kit.....true classic build. Hope you do the crew. Shep Paine once said...."A good paint job can improve a marginal figure." Have fun.

Very nice assembly. It has good detail for an older kit. Looking forward to paint!

I got nearly done with this kit....once...the wheel broke off. This is really a very high skill kit, you can build anything if you can complete it error free.

Congrats. I purchased the same kit in 1997: lovely kit, really nicely done. Building it was a pleasure. It may seems complicated but it is not at all. Tamiya did a great job here.

I kinda like those Tamiya figures. They are efortless to build and they add a lot to the kit. And fit quality is great in Tamiya.

Most excellent Adam! Nicely done sir very clean build. Many people assume that the Pak 40 and KwK 40 were the same gun this is of course completely false. The Pak 40 was actually substantially more powerful than the KwK 40 and the ammunition was not interchangeable. The KwK had bottle neck cases and used lower pressure ammunition. The Pak 40's ammo was straight walled and longer allowing for more propellant charge.

This was my first Tamiya kit that I purchased back in 1976. They need to make a Pak 38 as well. Many of these are in gun emplacements on the Normandy beaches.
