1000$ badges are fine.. that’s not a probably I’m not watching the whole thing but their prices are fine no one is forcing you to buy it :D
I normally see Badges priced at 25-100 dollar range, and at cons they go a little higher but NEVER in the thousand range
Like, I get 1000$ for fursuit parts. Cause those take a lot of time and materials! But a little badge is a lot. I get the about 100 range since I would think sometimes they are drawn traditionally. 1000 is too much homie!
tbf they have the right to charge 1k, but maybe if nobody is buying their badges its their issue
i think about the price tag, is up to the seller.
if the price is too high, no one will ever to buy it, good for them if it is sells. like it's never cause a problem to anyone (other artist, buyer) rather than the seller self.
it would be a different story if the price is too cheap.
@khairulq7708 never said they couldn't, but its unusual that they go for that high.
1k for a badge? It's a bit unrealistic to think a lot of people are going to buy the product, artists have every right to price however they want to. But there's a reason it's not selling.
I was like "Oh what a weird situation" in the beginning and it suddenly got worse💀
Yeah i was like “yeah it’s overpriced, but artists can price how they want, and if people think its too much, then its too much for them. The only people buying are people who can” but then… .
I will say that traditional vs digital work is often undervalued in certain spaces. It depends on what it is, but for example, the one person saying that they got watercolor art for $20 sounds like the artist was really undervaluing their time.
Yes! 20 is way too cheap for sth like that 💀
I once paid 20 for a digital piece as a student and looking back at it now, I should have given more even for that.
Yep. Watercolor is an expensive medium imo. Artist grade paint can be $10-$20 a tube. Most palettes have 12-20 colors minimum. Decent brushes can be $20+ each. Cotton paper (Arches) $20-$40 a block depending on the size.
If someone wants a traditional piece from me it's double for whatever they get in price. It isn't just the time behind it, it's the cost of supplies too. I truly love doing traditional art so my time and supplies have value
@Corpalo yeah like I'm a digital artist because I like how the colors come out on a computer for the comic style I am fond of. But I will always highly respect people who do physical art. Watercolor, pens, pencil etc. I started out with those things as well and I try to explain to people the high skill ceiling and money that is needed for the tools to do it. Like I may chage 20 dollars for a light coloring but I'd be willing to pay 40 of a Watercolor of the same type of color value. Why!? Because of the tools and skill it takes to do it. Despite it being in the same type of color range by maybe the artist themselves.
Could just be a marketing strategy. Starting out you would charge a low rate until you develop a brand of sorts, followers across multiple platforms. Stop doing comm. for a while, post lots of original art, then bring them back at a much higher price. Now that you have more people seeing your content, you're more likely to hook people who will pay a higher price. I say they probably gave that artist a leg up.
I just thought about returning to the furry fandom, started drawing a new fursona and here is a new scandal...
Yeah…. It’s always gonna be like that. But you can come vibe with the rest of us who are just as tired with the drama because it sucks :’)
(Also keep drawing the fursona, I bet it’s looking great so far don’t abandon them!)
There is always one because any group has awful people in it. The trick to any of them but especially furry is to hang out with the people you like and you'll have a good time regardless of the obnoxious or awful ones.
The art community has new drama every day same with Vtube, anime, and recently popular fandoms like Yaelorke, it’s inevitable and it sucks. The best thing to do is interact with a smaller scale of the fandom, like finding a sub-group within the community
Don't let this kind of stuff discourage you from enjoying a community or be part of one. There's always bad apples everywhere, it's up to you to ignore them.
Don't let the bad apples stop you from being a furry, focus on the good people and block the bad ones
14:38 hello Kat, those are NOT OCs and NEITHER OF THEM ARE MINORS (tho it does seem a lot like they drew Lio as a child but it's hard to tell form my phone, so yikes if that's the case)!!!! They're the main characters of the movie Promare by studio Trigger 😅 I don't blame you for not knowing it, it pretty much flew under the radar (I think it might have to do with the uncensored platonic bro kiss these characters have in the movie that probably got it nerfed)
oh and the shot(a?o?)galo thing probably refers to them too as Galo is the name of the blue haired character (who does look like sonic now that you said it😭). So it's probably a drawing or a doujinshi of them... and the shot(a) part would confirm that it's Lio as a child or maybe a version where Galo is the child 💀
The issue is still Lio is drawn as a smaller size than his design is. He has the very young boy appearance, not his typical consenting age. It's fine that they're anime yaoi. It's not fine that Lio is presented as an underage child and this artist is talking about sex
I honestly cried a lil when she said that it was sonic and some OC 💀 but i got the desire to kms when i noticed that lio looks like some fckn 6 yrs old 💀 like wtf man why do p3dophiles exists, why don't they just kts
@@Armiyana it's def not okay and i don't think the commentor thinks it is! i think the commentor is just clarifying that the art is not official/canon and that it's confirmed by the way the person is talking about it that its drawn in a way to imply/make one a minor. it's good to correct and offer insight so people don't see these characters in the future and associate them with that, but it also is good information to prove that this person is childifying ADULT characters for their disgusting likes (not even calling it a fetish)
oh tysm for the clarification!
Bennett fr does not have has his age confirmed in the story.
However he drinks alcohol, has his own job, and is an explorer.
It is speculated that he is about 19-20, but other people have their own hcs.

hello. vendor at anthrocon here. Im going to give some more context to the artist alley because i thought it would provide some interesting insight:
-This year they implimented a new place called "The bodega" which was between dealers den and artists alley and was application only that the staff had to pick you for. I was in this area and even with the bigger allowed setup I did financially worse than the previous years so I agree that the economic recession affected this con. (I still did well overall but considering I had a way worse setup the previous years its interesting to note)
The artist alley is a different story, with it being day- of spots given to artists and they absolutely screwed them over this year. While the 1000 dollar price tag on this person's badges definitely didn't help their sales, the artist alley was shoves so unbelievably far back in the convention hall you genuinely could not see them. This plus the fact artists in the alley were only allowed 1 display cube of height for their displays meant from a distance they legitimately looked like the same tables people were using to chill/eat at. I was in the artist alley the previous 2 years and it was NEVER pushed out of the way like this.
Another note is most badges DO NOT cost around 25 dollars. This is mostly from young and new artists undervaluing their own art at their first con, but if you want a badge from a talented / established artist you are going to be paying 80 dollars at the least. It's interesting how many people on twitter thought average art prices were much lower, as getting a custom piece of art is always going to be costly, even if it's "just furry art"
In terms of this situation, its absolutely disgusting and what's even sadder is I doubt they are going to be blacklisted from vending at most conventions since from what I know, there are certain artists that have been called out online for doing shady things and yet I still see them vending at cons :(
hi, love your animations.
While I agree with most of your comment, I STRONLY disagree with people who 'only' charge 20 - 25 dollars as ' new and unexpierenced' and are 'underpricing' their art.
Just like the person in the video (G4?) can charge $1000 for a headshot badge, people can charge $20 and NOT be a 'nonpopular' artist.
I GET why the popular (popufur) artists harge so much more - more people want art from them (usually just to have art from them)and I means they HAVE MORE commissions and therefore less time than most people. By being sought after they NEED to raise prices just to not be overpiled by people wanting commissions. If would be unfair and unreasonable to ask them to do 'cheaper' priced art with so many people asking for them.
Whatever gets you that green, boo!
But by saying anyone who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a non-essential item isn't worth what popufurs charge (even indirectly) or aren't as talented as the more well-known artists is GREATLY disservice to people who might just want to provide a less pocket draining service.
I am, by no means, a young or new artist, and I generally charge $25 for a full color, full shaded headshot badge.
Why?
Because I actually LOVE making them (and can do so in a speedy timeframe!)
And I know how it feels to have a character you love, want even more art for them but be completely financially unable to due to . . . Well, life.
So I make sure that it stays a price most people can afford easily.
Again, people can charge whatever they want for THIER commissions - that's completely THIER choice.
But claiming anyone who changes below $80 is new, young or just 'underpricing' is kind of ridiculous. Sometimes people just like doing something, and don't WANT to charge as much.
(Trust me - when I made art my job, it QUICKLY became less fun than it used to be. I'm slowly healing. Lol.)
And, again, I ABSOLUTELY agree about how *certain* cons just RAM artist booths in, (I'm lookin' at you, Anime cons) frankly, what amounts to a broom closet.
I had that happen on the first con I worked at.
Granted, it was local, and never worked at one before so I thought that was normal.
My SECOND con that I worked at we got the (second) main building. (And I was scared. XD Talk about a SHOCK! WTF?! Where did all this SPACE come from?!)
No hard feelings - just throwin' my two cents in. ^¥^
@@artisannoteworthywhy would you only charge $20 for a commission? If you’re independently wealthy & just doing it for fun or as a favor I’d prob just give it away free. If you’ve got quality work that people want to commission, you should let them pay you what they think it’s worth. You may need the money one day
@@artisannoteworthy Just to clarify, you do admit to purposefully undercharging as a charity to other furries? If that's the case then I think the person you replied to is right. You are undercharging.
the racist CP angle was not what i was expecting....but when I think about thats kinda par for the course.
Me that is still in the start of the video: THE RACIST WHAT NOW-
if im paying $1k for art it better be fulbody with a background. 1K for what is literally just a shaded bust is not worth it.
like lets be fucking real ACTUAL INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS DO NOT CHARGE THAT MUCH especially not for a simple shaded bust
Especially w their quality of work. Ignoring the fact that it's traced, its good quality, but not 1000$ good quality. It's very flat art, lacking lots of texture and details that would make it actually worth the price, not to mention their not famous enough to charge based on status.
Absolutely agreed, I'm an artist myself and since I talk to a lot of my friends and industry professionals about their prices and work, for that kind of money nothing less than a stunningly complex full scenic illustration would justify the price. Either that or an animation or a comic panel honestly.
@@yourlocalofficechair7953traced?? 0-0
Then don’t buy it! It’s not your money so don’t worry bout it
I hate how people tried to come at Bumii for telling the truth. Everything they said in their tweet was true. In the times we are in, 1000$ for a badge isn't gonna sell as well right now. "You're drawing attention to the artists and one of them will be a hater." Well, the OG artist posted it first and was drawing attention to their own prices. What?
Also...Magpie.....wtf. First, I am so sick of "I was so Edgy when I was younger!" I was also VERY edgy, and I definitely said offense shit when I was a teen. But I never said wild shit like I sexually assaulted my pet or I was gonna sexually assault minors???? Also, 2022 was two years ago....how old are you? If he's in his early 20s(20-24), that means at the youngest, he would have been 18 in 2022. At 18 you KNOW that sleeping with Minors is wrong! You know racism is wrong.
I used to be friends with Mag and went to school with them for practically my whole life and seeing this stuff come out about them is surreal and revolting, yet I'm not surprised at all. For years I knew of and saw their racist and pedophilic behavior (that were labeled as 'jokes'), but at the time I kind of laid it off hoping they'd grow out of it because we were still in high school. By the way, it seems some people were confused by the "6 years of art school" part; Mag did not skip high school, we attended a specialized magnet high school that focused on the arts. I don't know why they worded it as if they'd skipped high school and went straight to college, I guess it makes them feel more special.
Mag has also had a bit of a history with pricing their work insanely high, and believe it or not this isn't the first time they've had controversy around their prices. Overall, they have a pretty big ego. There's a some other stuff I know they've done throughout my years of knowing them but my memory is kinda hazy.
I figured it was an art high school situation
I like how magg is a racist but proceeds to trace and heavily reference from a black artist 😭
Doesn’t help said black artist is a massive scammer as well 😭
@@Your20droid They are?? Tell me more about it
Huffing your own farts hard enough to charge a grand for the same boring generic-ass bootleg Disney art style (traced from another scammer no less) that 684883858939375 other furries draw in for a fraction of that price is comedy gold
Yeah their style is not even special nor original
If I would charge $1000 for a half body artwork, I would have stalked the rich circles instead of going to a con where people expected things accordingly.
If I had $1000, I would have make a library from buying books from that con, damn. I won't shame people for charging $1000, but someone sold shirts, autobiography, light novels, fledged doujins, damn garage sales, and package discounts with freebies - which are more prioritized to be paid.
14:40 that aren't ocs they are the main characters of the anime Promera (for context, blond guy does *not* look like that in canon)
*Promare
I (and apparently not many other furry artists) usually charge ~20-25 dollars for fursuit badges but 1000????? HOLY HELL. You might as well get another fursuit head for that price!
That's a lil low ngl. At conventions, you can anticipate around $100 for a badge or up. Not 1k tho... usually highest I saw was like $400 for a fullbody traditional.
i charge $30 just for a flat color headshot (not a badge). charging $20 for a badge is insanely cheap
@@arrowhead8856 the only reason I’m not charging any more is really because of the fact I’m just a teen and I’m pretty inexperienced with art (despite doing it my whole life) I’ll raise the prices eventually. Especially because I do them all traditionally with inks.
tha is low broh ... lowball urselft not mean every artist should lowball their price neither
@hexthegoat Try raising it up just $5 and see if your sells for it is different.
And then try that again after alittle bit.
Weather you are a teen or not, try not to low ball yourself.
Try to think in terms of how long things take you as your hourly wage.
I love how you described Galos from Promare as "an OC that looks like Sonic". I can see it, but it's still funny to me. Some other commenters already talked about Galos and Lio and how Lio seems to be aged down in the art on screen
“It was diffrent time, we were kids” isn’t an excuse. I was a sheltered child, and when I say sheltered, I didn’t know the horrible things people are capable of existed at 14. I didn’t know the internet was an actual real thing till I was 12. I was so sheltered and naivete I literally thought that racism was vanquished along with the black plague. I didn’t even know what the N word was. I didn’t even fully comprehend what a slur was.
Yet when I first witnessed someone use it (a white kid) I picked up the vibe that it was a bad word. Just the way they said it had the same tone as a curse word (something I also barely comprehended at 14). And the way they would treat the kids of color and yell it at them, I figured out that it wasn’t good. That it was wrong and horrible, I didn’t know how, but it was. And I distanced myself from those people and never looked back cus even without complete comprehension I could tell they were being cruel.
I’m not saying I was good, I was in fact the opposite as a teen. All teens are stupid in that way. But you can still tell when something isn’t good, when it’s wrong, and when it’s horrible to the point being around it actually causes harm to everyone involved.
There’s a difference between unknowing ignorance, rebellion/being edgy, or willing bigotry.
And it's crazy to me cuz they're saying this like it was back in the 90s, yet these posts are like.... 4 years ago O.o The cultural shift excuse barely works for older millenial/genX youtubers, they can't be a younger GenZ and say 'back then' as some form of excuse. Bro wasn't even alive for it X..X
Hey! im Cody AKA SaberCoded from the last bit of your video, ive had a lot more info come out from anonymous sources about this person. They ARE 20 and it was confirmed twice by two separate unrelated people, they graduated in June of 2022. The school they went to was a school for the ARTS, the focus of that school was musical theatre, dance, and vocal/singing-- they had an ART DEPARTMENT, among other departments. it was not a school that treated its students like they were in college, they just happened to call these things "majors" to make it FEEL like college level... it was in no way college level. (next inserpt is directly from a DM someone sent to me)
they have been long time friends with crowparade, i believe formerly known as crowzperch, since about middle school. they have always been told about crowparade's controversies, and have never made ANY effort to stop being friends with them, even at the height of the crowparade's problematic past. they also developed their art style from crow by HEAVILY tracing/referencing their art-- that is a FACT. (crowparade was called out for drawing 'Cub P/rn' of their supposedly adult character that looked like an infant)
even at a young age, he never EVER took responsibility for what he would say. there was an incident with a very close friend of both of ours that drove me to stop talking to him that he has never apologized for. he knows, and has known, from a very young age that the things he says are problematic, but has never once tried to actually own up to it. he lived in a VERY diverse town that would literally beat the shit out of anyone who said anything REMOTELY racist, he was NOT surrounded by people who encouraged this behavior (other than in online circles).
Art being priced ridiculously high has been a meme in the furry fandom in the past ($5000 ych, etc). But the value is in the artist's name/popularity and limited availability. It doesn't seem like the one in the video can claim either to justify the price tag.
Personally, I've dropped ~200 for a near full body traditional badge at a con from an artist that regularly sells out of slots within an hour. The quality was MUCH better than what's shown in this video and the artist's an actual good and sweet human being.
For the art that you said looked like sonic, it's actually the characters galo and lio from the movie promare, and while they're both adults nor are they drawn like that in the actual movie, lio (Green haired one) has clearly been drawn much younger which is weird and gross.
Loli, ofc…
Hot take: A headshot for anything more than like $175 is just stupid.
Also I got blocked by them because I DM'ed them "I know you like kids bro"
I do get this is a hot take but it depends on the artists time and effort and reputation really I sold 10 headshots and full body renders for 400-450 and people definitely were willing to pay mostly because of the effort I put in and each piece took me 5-6 hours
Just an FYI! The characters at 14:41 are actually from an anime movie called "Promare". The blonde is named Lio and the blue haired dude is called Galo. (also gives context to the screenshot at 14:52 .)
Doesn't detract from how odd the art is (especially in the context that Magpie put them in), just thought I'd make a slight correction. (Especially considering these two are canonically in their early 20s.... really fucking weird to draw one of them like that.)
Fursuits are THOUSANDS of dollars. To buy a badge that is 1000$ is actually wild because you could get an entire fursuit for that much btw and fursuits are THE top dogs of the furry art community. They're 1000$+ for a reason and they can weeks to months to make. To drop that kind of cash on a simple badge is crazy to see.
Spend however you want but you must be crazy rich to drop 1000$ on a badge. That is impressive in many different ways good and bad lol.
Excusing 1000 dollar badges allow for further inflation in the future
No one will pay that. The most sought after artists get paid a premium, but they don't have to offer at the con, they open slots on their commission page months ahead of time.
If anyone bought even one of these badges, I'd be surprised.
But the real nasty business was that artists alley was largely hidden from the general public and artists were largely forbidden from showcasing their work because of new rules. This could lead anyone to believe that 1000 is the new norm and cause outrage.
The problematic garbage? The reason I left the Fandom a long, long time ago. It never gets better. The nice furries are locked into a place where you have unending CP, zoo, and racism from every corner and if you protest? The creeps will gang up on you, dox you and destroy you. And all this while the people who run those spaces wring their hands and shrug.
And before someone says it's not all like that, hun, go rewatch this video. It hasn't changed in 20 years when my clean art page had a statement that I didn't do fetish art OR art of minors/minor-looking-but-totally-an-adult characters ever. That's all it said.
I got doxxed and threatened to have my employer called to let them know I was into their trash, simply because i had called out the workaround they were using to demand their fetish art from me. I had to change my full online existence and disappear for over a year to get them to leave me alone.
That's the Fandom to me. And that impression isn't ever going to fade.
just a note: most characters in genshin do not have their age mentioned with some only being heavily implied. those information about character ages on google are old and just assumption that is not based on in-game lore nor information. most have been proven wrong too based on newer story progression and lore revelation.
not defending nor excusing their behavior btw, and i personally do not like chennett. just saying it is very possible to be hyperfixated on a character and do not know their age when the source material literally barely or vaguely provides it. bennett has the same character model as canonically adult characters and he's mentioned about buying alcohol before, which to me makes it understandable why people would confuse his possible canon age.
ur weird af. its so obvious that bennett is underage in the source material, even if you play the current updates. im assuming you're talking about the windblume event where bennett buys wine to gift to venti, but even so children in genshin interact with alcohol all the time (think diona and how she actively sells and mixes drinks as a job).
the hyperfixation explanation is also such a joke. i get hyperfixated on many pieces of media and not once did it make me a pedo
Ok I feel like I need to throw in two cents to clarify something, Bennet is a character with a lot of discourse around him in the fandom because some people see him as a kid and some people see him as an adult. You CANNOT GOOGLE the ages of the characters because they do not have canon ages listed anywhere in game.
When you google character ages and it comes up with a list of numbers, those are all just the best estimations/interpretations from whoever made the list, they are in no way canon because Hoyoverse does not reveal the exact ages of characters. Every article you can pull up claiming to have the "real" ages of characters says something different, and many of them I've seen are flat out incorrect. PERSONALLY I see Bennet, Razor, Fischel, etc as being 16-ish, but that does not give me right or reason to hunt down and vilify someone who thinks of them as 18+. This is the same rehashed discourse we've been seeing for years.
Not defending anything else in the video, I'm probably kicking a hornets nest by saying this, but please stop using fanon in arguments about serious topics.
WOW THIS TOOK A DARK TURN.....
As a Mexican who hasn't gotten a single sale so far, I'm genuinely ashamed by that person's behavior.
Bro why are people like the furry always ruin the furry name💀
Yeah I realize that it is a large fandom and most people in it are decent people but it seems like the biggest press the furry community gets on the internet is when someone from the fandom gets found out as a deplorable human being if not out right a criminal of haness acts.
I actually commented on this calling them out on their behavoir when handling this, a younger artist had asked what made their badges 1000 worth and their response was "your art looks ugly" (the person charging 1000 said that) and they got super upset at me because I said "hey don't say that dude"
As a furry on twitter, watching this unfold was NUTS. I followed them after the badge controversy but quickly unfollowed after a mutual showed me the beware x_x
Furry here. Furry art is a passion, but entering a con, it’s also definitely a business! I think you hit the mark on how you need to keep an audience in mind when selling art, and also keep in mind the state of the economy BECAUSE of your audience. Badges usually never sell that high - their art is beautiful but that’s easily 3 or 4 times as much as other con badges could cost, and sometimes being of a similar quality
On top of that it's come out that they're more than likely tracing some people's art. Not to say they trace all of their work but it's been shown that they at least traced some things. Which is also a nono and this information came out during anthrocon. Which is likely another reason this artist's sales were down
"It wasn't me, it was my friends! Blame them!"
Sure, Jan.
One thing you didn't mention... they didn't even "joke" about it just once...they made comments about minors multiple times....and also whi the hell "jokes" about zoophilia with thwir own fucking cat?! Nobody does that shit!
Also 1000k for a "special" headshot?! HECK NO!
They made jokes about minors multiple TIMES?…💀
god this is so disgusting and its crazy this all stemmed from them charging 1k for badges.
also slight correction: the 'oc' you mentioned that looks like sonic and the 'young kid' are lio and galo (whom are adults in their canon media) from promare. it's somehow worse they're like childifying adults just for their twisted desires, like going so far to childify everything bc ur THAT obsessed with it. they genuinely need to go to a mental institute and get help.
1000$ for a badge is INSANE! I know art is a luxury especially in traditional form but damn.. most furries literally get fursuits with that price. They're definitely expecting TOO much and I am unsure how they got the confidence to even charge such high prices! Because if I saw two stalls, both with similar and beautiful artstyles but once has WAY higher prices than the other, any person with braincells would obviously choose the lower price ones.
omg hi. im freaky haley. i was not expecting to get recommended this video but thank you for covering this 😭 the anon is a friend of mine ( I got the OG screenshot from them, saber took the screenshot from my thread ) and it is 100% true, as people that went to school with mag have confirmed it as well
14:46 VENTI DID NOT DESERVE THAT
havent finish the video the 1000 badges sounds like someone who isnt a furry but heard "furries are rich theyll pay for anything you know how much they spend on the costumes " and just went to a con
The fanart was of Galo Thymos and Lio Fotia from the Studio Trigger movie Promare. Their wikis state that they're both in their early 20s, so I don't know why they wanted to make Lio a shota. They also both look like their ages in the film too!
16:04 quick correction here to avoid confusion. No one in Genshin Impact has a canon age (or they do but it's left very vague) . So there isn't any "confirmed minors" except for actual child characters (klee, diona, qiqi etc)
This literally doesn't matter. They saw Bennet as a child. Even if he wasn't.
Funnily enough they were tracing over another super popular artist that got shunned while back for scamming more than $1k worth of commissions. Sucks cuz every time they posted they’d sell something for $800 and prioritizes commissions from popular artists instead of their dated 2015 queue
I think the pricing is fine but you cant complain when no one buys your art. Art is not a necessity
Oh my! I though this badge looked familiar but I though I saw it earlier. And I though it was traced from one of the Vani badges, because art gives me strong "traced from Vani" vibe.

The characters are Galo(blue hair) and Lio(blonde) from the anime movie Promare that has NOTHING to do with any of the gross stuff mentioned :( (the movie is about fighting against oppression and minorities trying to live life) Both are full grown adults(hell, Lio is even older) and does not look like a child in the original albeit quite feminine for an average man(I mean no harm, I myself am quite feminine for a man)
I know this is unrelated to the video topic but I love promare, I was quite saddened by how it was,,, yk,,, pdf file showing it and I didn't want people to know about them the wrong way :(

Your taste is IMPECCABLE.
one of my favorite furry artists ever sells beautiful high quality traditional art badges with added glitter details + sticker decals for 160$ and i think it's a completely fair price, and i plan to someday get one of my sona because there's nothing i'd like more than to support a queer artist in my area.
but i've never ever seen 1000$ for a badge? it's just a headshot with shading?? that's wild to me and i can't imagine paying that much with some way more competitive pricing, that you could probably find a booth over.
the lolicons/shotacons are gonna come for u again
There’s already defenders in the comments rn

I don't think artists have to lower prices, but they can offer a wider range of products and price points. Also, I think it helps if the prices are easy for your customers to understand. A $700 price difference between digital and traditional (in this specific context) is confusing, even if you're using high-end supplies like Copics.
When I see a table at a con, if the prices are more than 100 for any one thing, I'll probably not even stop. It's not the artist's fault, I'm just broke af and I don't want to give them false hope like I might be paying them. Also I'm clumsy af and i feel like i might destroy stuff.
I didn’t take any of this seriously in the first minutes but now wait, you cannot blame EVERYTHING on your friend group and say “ oh but they did too ! “ every two seconds to make yourself better. Saying that you didn’t understand, knew or were joking about something once as a “ teenager “ ? Okay, but over several years, where you were probably an adult ? No excuse 😭
Remember people, not only can you underprice your art but you can also overprice it
If im charging a thousand dollars its ususally for a full body with a background with color and render, like i could never imagine charging that much for a badge! Like my limit is atleast for headshots with full render is 50 dollars, oh my goodness
Edit: anyone can charge anything for THEIR art! Im not going to tell People how to price their work but in this economy thats what i would do financially to make everyone happy!
As a 3D artist, i base my prices on two things. 1 What i feel is reasonable based on my time, AND effort. 2 Do to knowing that I know how things can be hard for many people, and would like to enjoy something like everyone else. I have seen many other pieces of art around $300 to $1000 for the same things I do, and i feel its ridiculous, when I charge a fraction of those prices.
14:42 those 2 are actually characters from a movie called “promare” and I’m pretty sure both of the characters depicted are adults in the movie, so the one with the green/yellow-ish hair is purposefully aged down 😬😬 ew.
15:16 i literally couldn’t agree more. take away the backstory, and that is the body of a child. you are drawing the body of a child. it is so strange that people try to appropriate it with lore 😭
U seem to really like art and support artists, I love uu!
as part of the furry community, my badges sell around $45 max. this includes rendering, a free simple background (if wanted), laminated, and comes with a lanyard. $1000 for a badge is INSANE.
and also, the furry community does have a LOT of issues like this person. involving CP, zoophilia, etc. it's disgusting and even though it's barely seen, a lot of us want them OUT of the community. we don't consider them part of the community and try to put them on blast for stuff they've done/posted.
as of right now, i was almost scammed out of an art trade with someone i saw as a mutual. turns out they owe like over $2k to different people in the community.
WAIT THATS NO AN OC THAT LOOKS LIKE SONIC THAT GALLIO AND LIO FROM PROMARE XD Both are adult but the fact that they drew lio so young is sick >_
Your setup is so cute!!! The Pompom Purin on your mic is such a nice touch! Also loved hearing you talk :) you have a nice way of speaking! Subbed!
Dude, my first fursuit was $1000. Granted, this was back during 2017 when they were cheapier, BUT STILL- Most I’ve ever seen a traditional drawn badge cost, has been around $250-300. Thing was, the badges were fullbody, posed, and had a few background details. I’ve also seen a holographic badge for $500, but it was designed to be completely different images, from different angles (IE: Normal character portrait and then when angled, the character might have a skull for a face or be a different sona/oc). I would say the most I’ve ever personally paid for a badge was $70, after tips.
Some artists just ridiculously overprice for no reason 🤡
Really good video overall, insane that a people like this exist- but I wanted to comment on one small thing: The whole point about them being obsessed with Bennett is such bs to me. As and adult who also copes with a lot of things through fictional media, if I start getting romantically attached to a character, the FIRST thing i do is check their age. That's usually found on the wiki, same place you'd go if you WERE insanely hyperfixated on a character to learn everything you could about them. Really sickening when people try and use mental illness and trauma to excuse their actions
I’ve been in the furry community since I was in the single digits, back when the only way other people knew what furries were was from CSI. I’ve seen fursuit heads go from starting at 300$ back when I was a kid to starting at 1000$ today. I’ve seen badges go from 40-60$ full rendered to being 150$ full rendered today. But never... And I mean NEVER… have I seen a badge reach anywhere CLOSE to 1000$. My fursuit cost less than that badge. The only art things I’ve seen go for 1k+ were paintings, paint on canvas paintings. Occasionally a well-known artist would put an original piece of theirs on bid, and it would reach 1k+. The only time I’ve seen badges advertised with a 1k+ price tag was when they were being sold along with a FURSUIT. 1000$ badges are NOT the norm and tbh I really hope they will never be because that would be the sign we’re truly fucked economy wise.
Im like 10 mins into the video-
For more example on what fursona badges are and why people use em- think of them as a way to identify people. when you walk around in a fursuit, people recognize you based on your fursuit, but that connection is ofc lost when you take off the suit . To make the correspondence between the fursuit and actual human being easier, badges get used. thats just one use ofc, some who dont have fursuits also like to wear badges to share how their fursona looks like with others!
Man, I don't trace and I have a hard time selling. It amazes me how people think that they can trace (be horrible) and charge my actual rent for badges, and think they're gonna sell. Lordt. I actually lowered my prices because of people struggling, and I was still charging less than half that for a rendered full body with a simple background.
When I go to the cons, it’s to get things I can’t get online easily. I can commission a badge of equal quality, for less money online. But there I’m seeing things like amazing handmade plushies, puppets, wall art, and fursuits. Plushies can be less than $100! I normally prefer buying my clothing from small artists because the prices are similar to if I went to target, lol, so I’m buying a lot of clothes, or blankets or stickers.
$1000 at the con could get you SO much and there is no way I would spend it all in one place if it wasn’t for something like a fursuit.
As a furry, things like art, fursuits, etc are very expensive
Except if you price art based on the time and material used. In what way would art cost $60-1000
I get needing to make a living but if the product doesnt meet a standard. The high prices makes no sense pushing potential buyers away.
As an artist i agree that fursuits and art CAN be very expensive , but other than inflation and layoffs; a market of choices with other artists ( with cheaper options ) exists. I think this is similar to vtubers that some models can costs from 2k with how detailed it can get to 150 with a simpler ones. I think the op was just venting and accidentally caught strays
@@ev4d0r3Even furries should have common sense.
whilst for THIS convention it may be just a general bad go, it is also most certainly the prices. most conventions ive held stalls at, theyve never done that well tbf. its either not been the right kinda place for what i was selling, or there just wasnt the right age range/attraction i wouldve hoped for. but it is also the prices. the amount of little kids who have come up wanting to buy something from me because its something they know, only for the parent to be discouraged by the price is more than i can remember. the price IS an issue. tbh, every aspect will always impact your stall. what your selling, how many people, do you stand out, what kind of convention/stall gathering is it, and your prices. you cant say your prices "arent the issue" when they will ALWAYS impact your stall. i dont do traditional art by any means, ive always struggled with it. and with how much quality that is, it is genuinely impressive. (the quality and art style). i cannot imagine how long it takes just to do one. however, the most i would sell for that personally is 500-600 at MOST. probably 350-400 at lowest. this is because of the economy. my time is valubal and so is the effort i put into my work. the most expensive price i sell anything at is 50-60 pounds because i have to factor in the time it takes to make it, the effort, and the actual materials as well. im lucky enough to be able to have a 3d printer, lazer cutter, and sticker machine. but to get those funds back i have to sell it at a price which is reasonable to both me, and everyone else.
do i understand why this person sold their art for 1k a piece? yeah, i do. i understand because its understandable. its understandable this person places their art that much because its how much value it holds to them. but to claim that money isnt the issue simply seems childish to me because of the fact that no matter what convention your art, money will always discourage at least one person, meaning money does effect your stall. regardless of what your average is. money will always hold on impact. whether that be positive or negative. now, do i think selling it for 1k is a bit unreasonable? yeah. but i do understand why they may have put it that high. i do things such as vtuber commissions (sketch, model, and full rigging) and sell things such as acrylic standee lamps (different sizes, and different designs (including of different materials)). im planning on designing stickers, keychains, and so on once my art block fucks off, but the most i would sell something is 100 pounds. and that would either be a acrylic lamp which uses extremely complex framing, or a extremely detailed large poster. or possibly a custome item of sorts (depending on what it is).
overall, i think it is unfair to a lot of younger audiences who may have a limited budget. the most ive ever spent at a con was close to 200 pounds and i had to ask my dad for a bit of extra money just to be able to get the last thing i wanted (i think it was roughly 120-150 pounds. but even then i had been saving up and a part of that money was birthday money). am i profesional? no. but i have been selling things for little over a year and id like to reitterate, money IS an issue. is it THE issue? no. because it is clear there were other factors playing into them not getting as many sales. especially if their average is around 30. however, it is an issue. and i think one of the most important things is realising when you are selling something too high.
when i saw the piper badge, i knew it looked EXACTLY like a badge that Vani/Luxebytes/Ashketchumsays had made a couple years back, this is insane 😭 crazy part is that vani is also one of the most well known artists in the furry community
Vani WAS one of the most well-known artists anyway before they got run out of the fandom by people finally getting tired of their scamming ass after the like 15+ years they’ve been doing this shit 💀 one scammer tracing another scammer, we need to go DEEPER
A good rule of thumb: Never even sneeze on furry Twitter cause someone is gonna have an opinion. (I got harassed for just saying I didnt like explicitly fetish-y fursuits in public con spaces, yknow... around CHILDREN) 💀 There are calcuably the worst furries on there for some reason. I've been a furry, artist, suit-maker, and suiter for a DECADE and I feel "furry twitter" does not reflect the community very well.
I almost choked on my food when you called Galo a sonic-looking oc bc youre not wrong lmaoooo
1k is insane. I would never ever buy at that price. I’m surprised they have customers at all.
the thing about genshin impact character ages is that it's mostly guess work. hoyo very rarely confirms characters' ages, unless it's immortal characters like zhongli, venti, ei, etc.
to me, bennett's whole character reads as a teen, late teens/young adult max, so i have no clue how that characterization flew over this artist's head
@@ashvvBennett drinks alcohol though
Im only a few minutes in and people being like " oh i got a full traditional badge for $20 plus shipping" is so fucking funny cause unless that artist is doing small 3x4 paintings under and hour, they are 100% underselling themselves. If my size understanding is correct those $1000 badges ARE HUGE!!! thats hours of work and labor going into that badge just from size alone. Traditional art is not easy and so many artist undersell themselves just to get in the door of commissions. As someone who has done a small amount of commissions and with friends that do commissions regularly, underselling is a common place. $20 for a full rendered digital bust would make more sense plus what it takes to make it a badge (material cost) but to get a fully watercolored traditional piece, $40 minimum. TIP YOUR ARTIST PEOPLE!! Don't let underselling stay a common thing.
Edit: wtf why does it got to be child porn and racism...
14:38 those aren't oc's, they're two adult men from the anime movie promare 😭😭. Lio is drawn as a skinny twink but he isn't a shota
I saw ALL THIS GO DOWN, it’s wild
Your videos always get recommended to me almost right after they're posted lol.
Badges of this quality usually go for between 35 and 45. I saw a really neat badge that was actually wooden and that was only going for 65. In general though I think around 100 is the most anyone would charge. Charging a THOUSAND dollars for a badge that's just your basic laminated artwork is insane.
Your take about Lolis is EXACTLY how I feel about characters like Hideri Kanzaki, And astolfo.
Their art aint bad, but its not worth 1k. I've gotten full shades of two characters WITH a background, rendered far better and for like $200. Some artists over-value themselves, seriously
The most I’ve ever paid for a commission was 400 dollars for a very high-quality illustration of my Guild Wars 2 Character from my best friend. She is a stay-at-home mom and a SUPER talented artist, and even gave me a discount, so this was side income for her and I was happy to support her. I now have that art printed on a notebook I use for work. 1000!? I wouldn’t give 1000 dollars to a complete stranger.
14:39 The characters are from the anime move Promare, that looks like it aged down Lio (green hair) But then again Lio does look pretty young. Canonically Lio is around his early twenties. I just wanted to clear up what that's from just in case people think that Promare is PDF file bait or something.
Sorry if this info is already been said or if its irrelevant, it's gross that people make that kind of art of adult characters that have an enemies to friends relationship.
Edit: Nowhere in genshin is age ever mentioned for any character. You get rough estimates and timelines. Canonically we have confirmation about characters being minors and adults, like Benny. Venti is also iffy, his body is that of a teenage boy, he took the form of his human friend, a boy who died. I'm not an expert, can't tell you his age estimate. He is over 100 in spirit, his body sure isn't. Again sorry if this info has already been said.
A THOUSAND??? A BADGE FOR A THOUSAND???? If i recieved 1k for a art it would be a whole damm comic with multi pages, for a BADGE ?
Man, i wish i can sell at that price someday lmao.
the whole age and art school thing is so funny cause its only an actual argument for some countries- i was in a game design and animation school from 14 to 20 because in my country that system exists haha
This was a great video, thanks for covering this! I also made a video when the situation first came out but unfortunately had to take it down because the artist saw it and sent their following after me. Won't go into a sob story about how I was harassed and bullied but I did eat a slice of humble pie that day :') I'm 15 and from looking at all the snarky posts they made about me (some are now deleted), it's clear they treated me the way they did because they dislike underage folks. Kind of ironic they hate minors so much they'll jump on the "toxic gossip train" while also talking about wanting to 🍇💦 them. Good riddance.
not defending this person at all, but ages in Genshin are usually vague and not stated outright. Bennett’s age is only based on theories, so there’s technically room to say he could be an adult (the fandom especially is very finicky about ages).
Venti is canonically using the body of a 15 year old though lol
With an artist POV and buyer that's insanely expensive, at this day in economics and the inflation everything is expensive. Let alone most artists have struggled to get commissions. But 1k for a badge is super excessive, it's not worth 1k just for a character on a piece of paper. I could sell headshot badges for 100$ and still meet that minimum rage.
I haven't gotten a badge or fursuit yet and probably won't for a long time but $1000 is cheap for a fursuit but for a badge it better he 3d and look like digital drawing like badges are like $25 on etsy same with bases online there like $5-$20 (edit 1: I FOUND OUT I FOLLOW HIM WTF 😭
On the topic of if it's location or price that's reducing the commissions, wouldn't the artist know best? In case 1 less people show up at the booth, in case 2 more people who do show up leave the booth without buying anything.
i got a badge made that had an acrylic case shaped like a gameboy, and even that was nowhere Near costing $1k
Recently, walmart and target have actually had very similar prices, but i notice my target clothes and tupperware last longer. Like you said, though, we ARE in a recession and 1k for a badge is over the top
okay but like, I make pfp pics for peeps for like 10 dollars digitally. my preferred medium is traditional so I would probs price at like, 15 to 30 depending on size, complexity and region it came to (shipping is a beast)
The real „con“ is the price 😮
I get that hand art prices vary, but comparing caricature art from a carnival to furry commissions is not an accurate comparison. The price of a commission is based on the artist's time, skill, and materials used. The $1000+ cost does not necessarily equal or justify the price of furry art, but it is reflective of the artist's expertise and the demand for their work.
Artist should be allowed to charge what they believe their work is worth. Buyers are allowed to not buy it.
It should be the CORRECT OPINION that Loli's and Shotas are WRONG. I don't care if they adults BY AGE, if you find a character that LOOKS LIKE A KIDS attractive, you need to be on a watchlist. I don't mean a petite adult because petite adults don't look like kids, they aren't shaped like a child or have a child-like face, their proportions are different and I am sick of people arguing that in defense of lolis/shotas because they ARE NOT the same.
I am an shota artist and I disagree! :3
I don't know who the HECK actually purchaed a badge for 1k but man.. we need to have a talk about money management.
BRO I SAW THEIR BADGE COMMS ON TWITTER AND I WAS LIKE 💀💀💀 no bro I'm never selling or buying a badge for the price of a fursuit
