Really enjoyed installing this kit for my niece's controllers, as both the video and printout instructions were very helpful. As some other users had mentioned, zooming in on key parts would be beneficial to the video, as well as some simple explanation of things like detaching the battery connectors, and what to look for when detaching/reattaching the ribbons.
Unfortunately, the left side doesn't work with my kit and I've sent an email to customer support. I'm hoping it can be resolved without having to send it back through Amazon. I will update when I have the faulty parts resolved.
Update: The manufacturer has sent me a replacement kit to replace the faulty one. No Amazon involved, and they shipped it directly to me free of charge, no issues at all.
Great product, excellent customer service, would highly recommend to anyone who is a little mechanically inclined. 👍👍
Do they change colours while playing?
@@jonasbangel5079 yes, you can have them change colors while playing. The lights work independently from the regular controller buttons and connectivity, but it works off the same battery. You need to remember to turn the lights off when you’re done playing with the controller, or the lights will drain your batteries.
I also have problems with my own kit, but I can't find how to contact ER. Could you tell me where did you find how to contact them please 🥺?
Have you fixed it
@@thaviolara1741 yes, as soon as the new parts arrived, it worked as intended
A bit of a tricky install, but wow it looks so cool! The video clearly shows the steps to follow and if you take your time there will be no problems!
I do think that a voice over of instructions would help also (instead of just the music), as well as not zooming out so far. Stay zoomed in and focused on the joycon. But overall, very helpful!
Great to hear that! Thank you very much!!!
Instructions are for everyone without being limited to language, but I feel ya
This video is great!! I just wish it would zoom in more to show more details! I can barely see what's going on :(
Thanks for your suggestion! We will improve our future videos!!

I did my entire switch OLED in glacier blue color with the clear buttons (D pad version). Everything went well, change the strip LEDs to yellow and purple perspectively, the joy cons comes alive. Just follow the video carefully and you shouldn't have any problems.
NOTE: It pays to have some basic skill about small electronics. I'm extremely rusty on my repair skills, but I did watch the video multiple times beforehand.
Thanks! Just spent 2 hours doing my sons right joy con lol now the left side
Good daddy!
OMG yes took 2 hours for me as well but then took 10 minutes on the left one🤣🤣
@@Atw3000x Good job!
Just got mine fully installed!! Turned out absolutely amazing. I paired the black button LED kit with your guys Translucent Purple Joycon shells and its so beautiful!! I recently ordered and installed the translucent purple joycons from dbrand but they didnt fit perfectly (had to sand down the plastic) and the screwdrivers they included were cheap and stripped the screws...
I am very happy to say your guys' fit perfectly though and the tools you included felt very premium and did not strip out the screws at all. I am a very happy customer and will recommend you guys to my friends. Thanks =)
Thanks for your feedback bro!!! And we are so glad to know you like our products!!! :D
Could you make a video of your Nintendo Switch after changing the shell and adding the LED kit?
Do u happen to have any pictures or video of it I’m thinking on doing it to mine but I’m not 100% sure yet
Your tutorial was great! I fixed my grandsons switch and now i am the number one grandparent!!!!
That is really great! Salute to the #1 grandparent!!!
The kit is great, but I’m having problems. I installed the left joy-con first, as they did. But, when I was doing the right joy-con, it isn’t lighting up, and now the joy-con won’t even work without handheld mode. I don’t know what to do anymore, because I also share this switch with my little sister, who will be very angry when she finds out about the issue.
The set is great, but the right led set didn't light up at all for me
Hi, great video there. Would like to ask about this product, will the LED turn off when we put the switch into sleep mode or need to turn off by pressing the 2 side buttons from the joycons?
The patience and will power to do this 💪 🙌 👏 🙀
THIS IS SO HARD. IS THERE ANY EASIER TUTORIAL????
I was excited to start this project, this being my first time ever doing any kind of mod. All went well until the flap broke off that holds one of the ribbons down on the LEFT joycon. It’s been a week since I’ve contacted customer service twice for assistance. I followed along with the video, tested out the LEDs beforehand and they worked. At this point im anxious, but hesitant to start the right joycon. I’m determined to get this to work.
Heads up I’m having problems with it
Do you mean the flap on the Joycon or the flap on the LED flex? If it's on the LED flex, we can send you the replacement to try again. If it's on the Joycon, you need to take it to a repair store.
This is exactly why they need to sell them already done.
It's hard to find that little plastic clamp. My switch fell and the right joycon "broke" but more like came apart from the rails and the little clamp is what's missing and idk where to find replacements. What did you end up doing
also yes I know this is a year old, my bad
I just did mine and had no problems had to zoom in on some of the video but other then that they work like a charm and brings my switch to life !
The way he leaves the screws everywhere gives me "standing on the edge of a cliff with arms out" lvls of anxiety...
lol
Especially on that busy background.. would prefer an all-white one a lot more
@@kam-lw4ez Maybe we will change the background to light grey but not all white because white will makes some important parts disappear :)
When I use the color rotation setting on both joycons and sync them up, the right ends up changing colors faster over time.
Is there any reason why they would go out of sync? Shouldn’t they be on the same timing?
Clock crystals have a margin of error, this is why any clock will eventually lose or gain time, only an atomic clock can maintain near-perfect accuracy.
after installing the pro controller LED kit, i gave these joycon LEDs a try paired with the clear cherry pink joycon shells. this was a more challenging install than the pro controller given that the controllers are smaller. left joycon took awhile but fit perfectly. the right joycon went together fairly well, however there's some extremely light gapping once all together; like the LED ribbon additions don't exactly fit perfectly. took it apart several times to make sure there were no mistakes, all good.
anyone else experience this??
The process is rather intuitive. You strip everything into pieces, harvest the internals, and use the internals with a new case/new buttons while adding a LED cutout placed atop the PCB. Building it was enjoyable and it never felt like a chore to do.
Hey ExtremeRate, I have an issue on the left Joycon, OLED model. The joycon works but the buttons don't light up. During testing, with the case open, it worked fine. Here's the weird part: Swapped the mod in my original switch joycons, and it worked perfect. I'm not sure if it's user error or what - Has this been tested on OLED joycons? I saw someone else had the errors using this model, too. If it's my error, any way I can buy the left LED set individually?
Hey where you able to get it working on the oled because I'm have the same issue
YAY, been wanting some leds for the joycons. thank you!!
You are most welcome! ;)
Yooooooo if there’s a b version I’m buying. Thanks for this!!
What's the B version? The symbolic buttons? Or the Dpad version? There is a symbolic buttons version and both the all-clear and symbolic version that comes with the Dpad!!!
@@ExtremeRate where can I find the d-pad version?
Thanks for the video my controllers look so much better now 🤩
Fun process I ordered a new front and back shell and these led kit it was really tricky putting it all together haha I had to move all electronics to the new shell and then break it down again 😂😂
So... have you install it successfully finally?
@@ExtremeRate yeah but the Burton’s feel weird I might have to re open the controller and check the problem
I ordered these and I’m only now noticing that it said it’s not compatible with OLED, but that’s the only switch I have, so do you think it will be possible to install them on that?
Why don’t you guys sell these finished? I spent hours and made one mistake ruining the controller and the kids got into the boxes, mixed up and lost the parts.
if you already know how to disassemble joy cons you can skip to about 4:10
Yep :)
Thank you!
Spent 5 hours doing this and then once I finished the lights on the right joycon didn’t work. Not sure what happened.
Hell yeah! This is so gonna improve my switch battery life!
Yeah! :'D
lol
@sylvester Sim where does it say it'll improve your batter life?
@@robert_wolf6989 it's /s lol
YO!! I"m so excited for this!! Will you guys come out with a D-pad shell one?
YOOOOO!! its Comes with a D-pad ALREADY!!!
I just gifted the B version for the NS Pro controller, as well as a D-pad shell exchange for my joycons. Now I mosdef need to scoop the B versions of these and do it with the D-pad shell exchange.
Thank you!! Good luck with the installation!!!
I did one of my joycons last night and it mostly went well. I did a left joycon and my minus (-) button has a lot of problems registering. I tested it a bit with the old rubber key back vs. the new one and it seems to be an issue with the clear rubber piece, as using the original piece did not have issues. Am I missing something, did I get a defect, or is this the way its' supposed to be (I hope not)?
If there is a D-Pad version of this, I'm buying it ASAP
Oh, there is a transparent Dpad included in the kit, the installation is the same!! You can just buy it!!!

But wouldn’t you have to purchase a new shell

You guys really need to sell these predone, and as a set. I as well as many others, would pay at least 100 or more for a set of these already finished. Otherwise I'll just never have it, because this is way too much work for some lights.
Just check out Etsy. Some dudes there make that (:
@ExtremeRate This looks cool. Will you have a version with the D pad soon?

Would it still light up if I left the original buttons in there?
So excited to do this to my already modded AC switch, i modded it a year ago with ur pink sakura buttons, and i just recently got an OLED i was sad that i couldn't do this to my OLED so decided to switch out my AC buttons and use them on my OLED and do the LED sakura buttons on my AC switch ahhh i cant wait to do my second mod on my AC switch! Then my third on my OLED all with ur items! I actually tried contacting yall to collaborate on my instagram but no luck haha!
I just got these but when I got plug in the battery into the yellow LED part it’s not lighting up on the SR and SL side panel?
Do you mean both left and right joy-cons have the same issue? And are they still functional? Can the LED kit light up?
I have the same issue
How long does the battery last assuming these are to be kept on? A joycon can last up to 20 hours, I'm curious to see how much that's brought down.
The longest time I played with this LED kit is about 6 hours, the joycons are new.
@@ExtremeRate But how much the LED light battery is it and does it need to change it every month. And btw please send me the link for the LED light. I dont know where to buy or order them.

This would be really cool for the switch lite. But at the same time, i kinda never want to take my switch lite apart again lol. Installing something like this would require removing nearly everything lol.
When will it be available again on Amazon.Mx? I'm dying to have it in my Joycons
Another thing, I have my Joycon with D-Pad, will you include a special version for the D-Pad?
The Amazon MX share the inventory of Amazon US, it will be available after a few days of US inventory arrives, please wait a couple of days! And this kit included a clear DPAD, so you can install this kit with eXtremeRate Dpad JoyCon shell!!!
Thanks for this! May I know how to change and turn them off? I tried pressing SL & SR in for 5 seconds but it's not turning off. Also I tried to press them many times to change color but it's not working also.
Did I miss something from the wires? The joycon is working perfectly tho.
Do you mean the SL & SR still working but the LED can't be turned off or change color?
@@ExtremeRate yes. I can use them to my switch and it can detect but I cant turn the led lights off and change colors :(
@@ExtremeRate I realized what's going on. I can change colors and turn them off when my screws are loose. But when i screw them back on, it stops to connect the SR &SL to the LEDs. May I know why this is happening?
@@PlanetMarsChannel Is the issue happened to both of the left and right Joycons? If you loosen the screws and the issue is gone, then you have to check the connection between the SL SR ribbon and the LED ribbon, they must be connected but it seems the ribbons may be curved when you fix the screws and the connection fails then. Please rearrange the flexes and ribbons to avoid the problem above. And if you find any damages on the connectors of the LED ribbon, please let me know.
This was a very helpful video thank you very much I appreciate the time that you took to make this. However if I may some parts it was a little bit hard to see maybe you can zoom in a bit more and also maybe since you're not talking you can also just have text above the screen or somewhere letting people know that you can pull firmly I was so light with it kept thinking I was going to break it but I realized I just had to put a little bit of muscle oh so it may help the talk for some people however I'm one of the people if I can see it I can just follow along with it anyways thanks again and I hope you and everyone else that read this comment stay safe also I hope you were successful as well😜😝😖🤣🛌

this would probably look cool with transparent shells and normal buttons

broke battery wire fuck my life
Installed mine on the left controller and it worked on the initial test, but when I got it completely installed it does not at all. Im frustrated and disappointed ☹️. I am going to uninstall it and see if my joystick works period. There is little troubleshooting results in the faq area. All it says if it doesn’t work, recheck connections and try again, and if that doesn’t work, plug battery in original plug. I did all of this and nothing works. Not happy. It assumes that it will work after you try these things and but doesn’t further troubleshoot if it doesn’t. If I have to buy a new set of joycons, I’ll be really upset. These ones are only a couple months old. Not getting a good review. The directions and the demonstration video were not comprehensive and didn’t show things well enough. I may have shorted it, however, my joy on should work when battery is plugged into original plug. Deep breath. Still going to try to talk to someone, but it’s Saturday. Who knows if I will get anyone.
You missed the joycon's Sr and Sl's
This is an awesome kit, unfortunately, my right side LED's do not work after installation. The joycon itself works fine but LED lights will not come on.
Hi, it seems the LED flex broken during the installation. Please let us know your order number via email to info@extremerate.com with your shipping address and RUclips name, we will send you the LED flex replacement. But in your next installation, please aware that the LED flexes are fragile, handle them with care, every component on them is soldered with tiny tin, they are easy to broken if you don't gentle enough.
Im not gonna lie, this is dope, and ill buy it, BUT GOOD GOD THE INSTALLATION LOOKS TERRIFYING

my LEDs aren't lighting up and everything is plugged in where it should be
So i'll have to manually turn it on and slide it on to the tablet and switch it off again after im done playing? It'll keep draining the tablet battery if i dont switch it off? I aint got time for that lol

I am excited to see mine once they get here!! Any tips for avoiding stripping the screws in the joycons? That is an issue I have had in the past when working on joycons
We suggest you use a professional screwdriver kit, with different size of Y tips, use the best one to unscrew. And do remember to hold the screwdriver tight and use a hard downward force and then start the unscrew slowly
I just did that.
So, after installing this kit, the joy cons battery life goes from the standard 20 hours to 3-4 hours?
If you turn the LEDs on every time you play, then yes
@ExtremeRate So first off wonderful instructions and nice boards, but sadly watching it showed me one not easy to take back apart and two left one covers the joystick so if any repairs are needed (joy-con drift) it be too hard to fix easily. The right one almost had it done good till the led at the end. I would but if A. Drift didnt happen or if B. An alt ver came out that aloud easy removal and repair with out a full removal of well everything. So what I'm saying is unless an updated model is out this light mod will not let replacing and joysticks easily.
Thanks for your feedback. The Joycons are small and there is just tiny space inside of them, so putting the LEDs on them is not an easy job.
My right joycon lights up but the left one won't and oddly it works anyone have any ideas?
My motherboard is different. It says the kit fits both. I don't see how..
one problem i have is how to fix a drifting joycon with the led kit already installed?
Do you think that updating the joycons have any effect on the mods? I'm on the fence after reading reviews. I really want to try them. Thank you in advance
Mine didn’t work the led plug doest fit into the battery plug totally different plugs
Schon mehrere Kits bestellt, mehrmals reklamiert, und immer wieder die Linke Seite defekt. Alles richtig angeschlossen aber kein leuchten der LED. Sehr schade.. rechte Seite Funktioniert und klappte sofort..
I wish you didn’t have to remove the joycons to turn them on and off would have been cool if they came on with the console

I've already installed it with no instructions I'm just here to see how to turn them on
I'm pretty sure I messed up. It works when it's connected to the switch. But when I take it out it will not turn on. What did I do wrong?
Probably something isn’t connected or worse broken. Try to disconnect the battery and connect it again.
