FR it's a damn shame Tai Chi became more about Spirituality, and Exercise for People as a way of life. As many Combat Tai Chi techniques are useful in the Back Pocket to have. Such as one of the first principles taught being Rooting and Unrooting. Even at only 115 pounds I have had people 200 plus pounds trying their hardest barely be able to Budge me. Mixed with Wing Chun, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Savate makes for Mean Close Combat Combinations while always having a Flowing Defense even Mid Strike where your most Open, and Vulnerable. Mixing Soft Parries, Hard Blocks, and Windmilling Defense using the Forearm and Elbows. Even accidentally gave someone a Boxers Fracture once with a Elbow Block to the Knuckle. And the guy was known for having Stone Like Hands that would pierce to the Marrow with Pain and they weren't kidding.

The fight being interrupted by the earthquake is a beautiful nod to the theme of mortality. Ip Man explained in the second movie that no matter how skilled you are, you will eventually succumb to nature. Here we have two of the most skilled masters in a duel, but nature does not wait or care; it happens upon you and the best you can do is try to get out of the way…just like they did by taking shelter under the table.
One of the many things Chinese martial art movies do well that American can't besides choreography and camera work is how well you can really see the differences in fighting styles. They have such a natural rhythm or flow with their strikes and counterstrikes almost smooth like a dance.
This is by far one of the best scenes in the entire Ip Man series. It’s unmatched by most fighting scenes. Kudos to the Director, the Actors of course (BOTH are on top), and the little magician of photography behind the camera and the wizard in the editing room.

Ip man already won a fight with a half-way kick into Master Wan abdomen but he intentionally stopped his kick. Master Wan went crazy mode soon after because Ip Man had been going easy on him a whole fight.

I think with single hand, Ipman had 3 dominations ,while Master wan had got single dominaton. While Ipman hand is injured saving wans daughter few hours back+ cancer suffering ,it was obvious Master wan dominated initially.
I don't think it would have taken Ip Man long to find an opening even if the fight continued with two hands, Ip Man just had to get used to Wan's style
I don't think it was Ip getting used to it. I think the real reason Wang had the upper hand initially was because ip man was also being careful with his injured hand. While wang was using both hand fully. When the put one hand behind they were on fair terms again and ip didn't have to worry as much about his injured hand. (That's my thought)

In real life there are many situations where Chinese people are from different regions and speak different dialects but are still able to understand each other in conversation even though they prefer to continue speaking their own native dialect. I'll say the two dialects of Chinese is probably about 60% the same especially in Spoken languages. Written Chinese is about 95% the same because of sentence structures. Granted there are written words in Cantonese that is not used at all for Mandarin speakers.

There was such a tournament in ancient times. The Lei Tai was such a tournament back in the old days. You can see a version of it in Jet Li's film "Fearless". That elevated platform where two man can fall over the edge if they are not careful is the Lei Tai arena.

I see Wing Chun as more fluid and practical rather than pretty prose and pose. Though it is Donnie Yen, I don’t believe Wing Chun masters would forbid some technical changes in improving the art. After all, changes allow flexibility which consequently brings improvements.
