Extraordinario!!!!♡♡♡♡
Vanhall is a bohemian composer who lived in Italy and mainly in Vienna. His style anticipates more or less that of Mozart, but his experience and above all his genuis is more limited. This is not a reason to forget his music. He was one of the first composers to live from his job (composition and teching) without aristocratic sponsoers). Here, we have a delicately crafted concerto for flute.
In real life, he was Mozart's friend. They entertained each other with their string quartets: Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf - vl#1; Joseph Haydn - vl#2; Wolfgang Amadé Mozart - vla; Jan Křtitel Vaňhal - vlc. It had to be a dream quartet!
My favourite concerto from Vaňhal:

Pálmai Attila It is obviously true that Mozart knew Vanhal but there is no evidence of which I am aware that they were friends; he is barely mentioned in Mozart’s letters for example. After Mozart moved to Vienna, from about 1780, Vanhal wrote no symphonies and as a composer would have had little interest for Mozart as he wrote little except facile, easy, popular music pandering to Viennese publishers’ requirements.
The well known famous quartet party at Stephen Storace’s house that you mention was recorded by Michael Kelly, however you have listed it inaccurately, Kelly has: 1st violin Haydn; 2nd violin Dittersdorf; viola Mozart; cello Vanhal. That said, I do believe that your amended roles in the quartet may actually be correct; whilst Haydn, Mozart and Vanhal were all competent players, Dittersdorf had a professional and virtuoso technique and was by far the best player. I think it likely Kelly may have muddled the violin players - he wrote his memoir about 40 years later, and I think it very likely that your list of players is probably correct.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 Thank you for your valuable information. Like perhaps Kelly, I have experienced something like this myself: in 1986 J. Frantz and Ch. Eschenbach performed in Prague Mozart's Concerto in E flat for Two Pianos, but I no longer remember who played which piano part (which one was the conductor).
Fantastisch gespielt - wo bekommt ma denn da noch die Luft her zum Atmen? Das ist echte Kunst, herzlichen Dank!
