Here are 10 other subtle differences between Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild.

• 10 Subtle Differences ... Игры
The ability to drop weapons from the quick menu or when you open a container and your pouch is full is one of the best QoL features added to the game.
they still need to make it so you can just throw items from the quick menu. why you have to press R first is just beyond me… let me press R in the menu
You can do this ? lol , when I want to drop a weapon, I equip it from quick menu and just throw it like a spear
Totally agree! And then the lack of an option to fuse weapons in the menu balanced out the positive.
This was the main difference I noticed because of how convenient it was. I was thinking, "aww, that's sooo nice of you Nintendo"
@@dart_ yes it literally gives you a button prompt in the quick menu that says drop
another subtle difference (if I'm not mistaken) is that, if you're paragliding in the rain, there's a new pitter-patter sound for the rain hitting your paraglider that wasn't there in botw
I swear that was already in BOTW, but it was much quieter
The overall sound design seems touched up. I noticed the rain on the glider too. I find the subtle improvements to the rain and snow effects make me less disappointed when it rains every 5 minutes
@@floatingsuburbia the rain sounds so good now
And the rain effects in general has been improved, in BOTW everything looked glossy when raining, it's still the same for TOTK but it's been reduced a lot
I JUST pointed this out while streaming to friends. I'm so glad others notice because it is a very satisfying sound as someone who loves rain.
One thing I’ve noticed: in Breath of the Wild, you do not regain stamina while swimming up waterfalls (Zora Armor), while in Tears of the Kingdom, you do!
Also you can move left and right in the waterfall as well as jump out at any time by hitting X/B
If I’m not wrong, you also swim up automatically and open the paraglider automatically
I’m assuming they did this to make traversing sky islands easier
There is actually a quest where this is absolutely necessary. Go to the roof of the temple of time on the sky island to find a construct to give you the quest. I don't know what exactly unlocks it, as it wasn't there when i went there, before leaving the sky island for the first time.
@@Naryoril It's prob somewhat related to the zora quest line, but I'm not sure how far in you have to be, since the zora chest piece is almost necessary for the quest, unless you create a flying machine
The added visual effect on the Spicy Pepper updraft isn't just for show. It's also been made much stronger than a normal fire updraft.
Ever tried a pinecone with a fire?
They're fricking crazy compared to spicy peppers.
We all used the pinecone in front of the Npc who tells us not to do that.
It's even crazier if you burn more peppers at the same time!
@@thechugg4372 That's how we got across too
@@thechugg4372 nah i didnt know pinecones could do that til seeing pointcrow. I built a log bridge lol.
As you can guess, Tulin's cave was a feat. Had to climb the vertical shaft when i could have just used a pinecone
Another difference is that now the npc's react according to the things you're doing; for example, using fire weapons near them, and they will express that its too hot or that they will burn alive. In botw npc's will only tell you to stop.
this feature has been amazing for korok torturers
"Pretty flash"
-Korok getting struck by a lighting bolt
Pretty sure they have dialogue when you ride a vehicle too close to them too.
Also they always talk about rain when it starts raining, which I don’t think was in botw but I don’t remember
Botw had a few unique npc reactions, like for example if you pulled out a remote bomb near the pumpkin farmer in kakariko he'd say "A blue pumpkin?!?!"
My absolute favorite change is the shrine noise change. The dings are waaaaay less irritating. And it points you to the right area
You mean the sensor? Yeah, thankfully it's a lot less ear piercing now
They're easier to find, thankfully
I also love the fact that as you near it, if you're above the shrine the bleeps are followed by a lower pitched tone, and if it's above you they're followed by a higher pitched one. So even if you don't look in the bottom right to see it telling you above/below, you can tell :D
@@AlaiaSkyhawkThat's the kind of awesome subtle detail that reminds me of the old Nintendo. They still got it!
I haven't played totk yet (finishing botw first). how does it point you to the right area in totk? I've had a lot of annoyance with the botw implementation
I noticed the bullet time change immediately when I got my first bow and honestly I love the change. It makes me feel like I’m not rushing or wasting stamina while carefully aiming
It was simply unnecessary because you time you have to hit the ground is already your timer anyway
They probably did it because it can take awhile sometimes to choose what item you want to attach to your arrow. I love it
Bullet time was already op why did they have to buff it
@@juanpaz5124 realistically it's a buff and a nerf
The buff is that you can take however long you want to place your shots perfectly, the nerf is now you can only get off so many shots
@@sweetieswifey627 Ur right, didn't think this through
an extremely subtle difference is also link's cape animation when he's riding horseback with no weapons on his back. Looks much more free-flowing and realistic in totk
I noticed it specifically with rushrooms but when you shoot cliffside mushrooms down with an arrow they dont drasticly shrink in size like they do in botw. It's 100% more satisfying to collect them love it
You could shoot down the mushrooms lmao?? 😂😂😂 I never knew that
@ominousvirus5278 you can do it with most things. Bugs will be destroyed like chu jelly though and i think elemental fruit does too. I only played totk a little on my friends switch but knew about shooting and knocking down harvest materials in botw. That's how to do korok apple tree puzzles and and easy way to catch lizards and crabs etc without sneaking and you can do it with fish too. Electric arrows work best on fish but bombs do fine as well as regular arrows. If you shoot apples the arrows stay in and you can collect both.
Fuck me, haha, so much time wasted climbing
@dojdina Actually a blizzard rod specifically will have a huge area of effect blast that will knock down all rushroooms on the wall, better than arrows-
@@thecrimsonfuckeralucardlor5087 The best way to solve Apple tree puzzles in BotW is to Stasis the apple that needs to remain and then cut down/bomb the tree. It's so much quicker and easier than individually removing the apples.
The stamina only depleting after you shot the arrow mid air its awesome for "panicky-there-is-too-much-stuff-happening-in-the-screen" players like me. Awesome video overall, it also would be cool a video going over the memories and discovering each specific location where the memories are happening.
I unconciously knew shooting arrows feels better now then in botw, great to see that its real and how/why
For sure. The new method may lower the skill ceiling by adding a hard limit to the number of times you can shoot, but it raises the skill floor so that mid players such as myself can aim and shoot more easily. I love this change.
@@Celestia282NO I HATE THIS STUPID CHANGE THE SKILL CEILING IS SO MUCH LOWER A NOOB CAN NOW DO THR SAME AS A PRO PLAYER AND BEFORE THE LONGER YOU WERE IN BULLET TIME THE FASTER STUFF WOULD GO THATS GINE ITS SO STPID
THERE SHOULD HE A SETTING TO CHANGE IT BACK BECAUSE IM NOT TRASH AT THE GAME LIKE YOU
@@Celestia282THE CHANGE IS SO TRASH AND MAKES THE GAME TOO EASY I HATE IT
@@BoredomStudios Calm dude
Fixing the ‘opens chest, inventory is full’ interaction was something I was sooo hoping they would do, along with fixing climbing in the rain (which it appears they kind of did), I just wish we could pet the dog!
I think the reason they removed the message when you whistle and the horse couldn't hear it is because you can use the whistle to call the Sage summons to you at any time while they are active, and since the horse is not necessarily close by this message would appear even if you were only trying to call the summons.
Also that notification and sound effect was so useless and annoying
0:40 the Spicy Pepper updraft in TOTK is as powerful as Revali’s Gale
Revali: Spends years honing his skills to master the art of creating an updraft to instantly get into the air from the ground.
Link: *Instantly does it using a couple of spicy peppers*
right i use that shit ALL the time
you should see what a pine cone does
Pinecone is higher and also rocket shield.
Yeah. It’s like they took just broke down BOTW abilities. I see it in a lot of things. BOTW was like xy and TOTK is x + y
My favorite visual effect of the game is using recall during rain and seeing each individual rains drop freeze
You should use Hylian pinecones instead of spicy peppers for an updraft in totk for an added bonus
I'm assuming they didn't do that in the video to cut down on spoilers, and because both games contain spicy peppers
@@helenm1085 Putting a pinecone in a fire to make it bigger isn't much of a spoiler imo. If I'm not mistaking it's written in the description or one of the mazes
@@camillo4308 Theres also a guy at the Lucky Clover Gazette that says he didn't realize how big a fire he'd make when he threw pinecones on one, and the intended way to get across to Rito Village is by throwing some onto a fire for the updraft.
Do pinecone updrafts reach revali’s gale level?
@@Kurameno they do, might even be stronger
The most subtle difference I have found is that link's "standing still' animation is slightly different. When you come to a stop after walking or sheathing your weapon or doing anything really, if you pay attention to link's right hand right as he enters his idle animation, he ever so slightly unclentches it. This suggests that they wanted his hand more open when he's standing still, so they modified his idle stance to reflect that, but all his animations don't end with his hand like that. So when he stops, they had to animation blend his hand into the new pose.
I think the water thing is because totk encourages finding a patch of water to dive into when we cant glide anymore
The reason for removing the "It seems [Horse] couldn't hear your call" -text is because they added a new feature for the whistling, you can call your Sage Spirits closer to you!
Dang. I didn't realize that.
yup
ohh i didn"t know that, that's actually really helpful for when i need to zap someone and riju has managed to move halfway across the map
Also you can tell with the whistle that they updated the audio (or the engine), on BOTW the sound is mostly flat, but on totk, there’s echo, the sound is beefier and clearer. It may be hard to notice, but it’s a great touch
For the bonus stamina when we touch water, it’s happen to me one time and I didn’t understood why,
I was just very happy to survive
Only time it’s happened to me is when I’m climbing and I deplete my stamina and hit water, I think it’s just so that you still have a chance to get to land and not instantly hit water and die
Its even funnier when you land in the middle of a lake and the extra stamina isnt enough
@@kxngvxmp Yeah this kind of mechanic is usually known as a "pity" mechanic or a "second chance mechanic". One of the best forms of quality of life improvements imo, at least in singleplayer games
Considering they want you to use water to break your fall at least once the game, they probably wanted measures to make sure you could get to shore if your stamina somehow ran out.
Once you get the glider though it's not as important.
@@josephrichardson7254 at least once is a understatement tbf
not only is the melting ice vfx different, simply having something like a ruby fused weapon out, *even if holstered*, will melt the ice. basically you can just switch to a ruby magic rod and melt any ice
the point here is that you don't have to hold the weapon to melt the ice. as long as the weapon brings link's temperature up, you can do so while its still on your back. you dont have to hold it out or strike at the ice anymore
something i noticed too is that the throwing animation or the throwing window seems to be longer in totk, probably so that we can switch to the item menu and not throw away our weapons by mistake
You can melt ice in botw too, using flame swords or fire rods... the ruby fused weapons are basically just a replacement for them in totk.
Igneo Talus heart also works
@@memelurd7341 Rubies, Igneo Talus Hearts, Flame Gleeock Horns, Red Lizalfos Horns... and I think possibly Fire Chuchu and Fire Fruits also work too.
For the second part, imagine you yeeting your silver lynel sword off a cliff when you just wanted to throw the glowing flower lol
@@onepointsix3684 recall lol
Link has gotten wiser in the last 5-6 years
Similar to the bullet time stamina change, pulling out the Scope while falling will also slow time down as if you were in bullet time (without any of the audiovisual effects). No idea if this was in BotW, I think maybe you couldn't use the scope midair?
The scope completely makes you stop in mid air so you can look around all you want
Love this change. I use it to mark shrines and other important areas while descending
@@thechugg4372 Not quite. if you're falling, you'll still fall VERY slowly in scope mode, and if gliding, you'll still go in the same direction. the stamina wheel even shows up so you can tell how long you've got before falling.
@@thechugg4372 no, if you look at an enemy through the scope mid-air, they are still moving slowly, so link probably still move slowly too
I’m not 100% sure if this was in botw or not but if you use your paraglider in the rain in Totk there’s a rain hitting a tent like sound effect.
They also changed the sound design on the melting ice to include a watery layer instead of just the sizzle as well, which is really satisfying to listen to. I don't believe it was in BOTW.
the reason for the whistle message going away is probably because whistling has other uses in TOTK aside from just calling your horse. I never knew about the spicy pepper thing, I've been using the pinecones to create an updraft
I've been using rocket shields like a dolt...
Spicy pepper, sunshroom, or 4 bundles of wood can all create updraft in BotW
#5 actually stamina does decrease when in bullet time it just so slow that it is not noticeable, it takes about 7-10 minutes for a single wheel to deplete
at that rate its either an oversight or a learned decision by a coder who was able to produce some game breaking bullshit with unlimited falling stamina and needed a failsafe to always reset it without effecting the actual player experience.
@@TollyH My guess is: If stamina isn't currently used, it's recovered. So having 0 stamina usage for bullet time would probably mean bullet time would restore stamina.
@@TollyH Ah, right. Diving doesn't recover stamina after gliding, and it probably doesn't use stamina (i never tested several minutes of diving for obvious reasons), since no stamina wheel pops up if you just jump off a sky island. There goes my theory then.
Another change is that parrying stal hinox's bones they fly to their eye instead of disappearing on the ground
Love these videos, thanks for making them.
I like most of the changes, and I didn't think I would.
HOWEVER --
I do wish you could still select a -rune- Purah Pad ability without immediately going into "use mode." Sometimes I just want to prepare, not use it just yet.
Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. Switching between ToTK and Splatoon 3 always has me reaching for the wrong menu and activating the abilities.
You can if you're in midair or swimming or climbing
Isn't the pad only for map and camera
Tho still runes are a better name than *right-hand abilities*
Flip side- In combat when I need recall *now*, I’d hate for it to take longer. This speeds it up when you need it.
Was just playing BOTW yesterday, on Wii U (As i see you doing here as well) and that up-draft thing could've helped me immensely for what i was trying to do, i totally forgot.
If you're precise, you can actually chain updrafts together by dropping peppers and grazing them with fire arrows mid-air
I noticed the arrow stamina stuff last night, and was pleasantly surprised. On the one hand, you probably can’t get as many shots off in the same chunk of stamina, but being able to actually use the slowed down time to aim without panicking and missing my shot anyway is immensely helpful.
The first one I noticed was the refilling of stamina in water. Actually just found out it was the “it seems ___ couldn’t hear your call” change. Seriously I love all the small details total added for for better quality of life! Super helpful
Or in the case of "couldn't hear your called" removed for less quality of life :(
@@thechugg4372 you can whistle the companions to your side now. Probably the reason
No more point naming my horse, God.
I don't know why but something i loved looking at when i took that first dive into the water is the massive splash that happens with the water shooting up and raining down for a second. It just looks really nice.
an amazing effect to sell the impact
Me too. I visited my mom the day after I got the game and I specifically jumped into water so she could see it rain down.
5:30 This change is a life saver!!!
6:35 is such a underrated and nice change
Wait I just had a sudden memory. What happened to the people who said the clouds in TOTK were literally impossible without having a switch 2?
Lmaooo remember when they said it would just be like a dlc and not a new game
They went out to lunch and bought a slice of humble pie. That's what happened.
They cheated a bit with the clouds in this game. They're layered 2d textures that always face towards you and aren't volumetric in any way
@@waffles245 you know what’s also not actually volumetric ? Your hair
@@IsraelLlerena so true bestie! My hair is a collage of textures that only appear to look three dimensional
How do you even notice these my guy
by playing the video game. hope this helps!
@@todd3143😭
@@todd3143IJBOL
Aspergers syndrome
They don’t know what grass is unfortunately
The new quick menu is such a godsend
Thanks for doing these videos! It's fascinating to see all of the little improvements. The ability to drop an item before replacing it with a new one from a treasure chest is so nice and smoothly done.
Found something pretty cool: I had just killed the Luminous Talos under the Deya Village ruins, and while I was seeing if the magic staffs make the Talos hearts do anything -- when I noticed:
_this game has mist dynamics!_
The fog on the ground will move dynamically to movement and weapon swings!
I didn't notice before, I don't remember seeing mist along the ground until this point.
But the fact that those kinds of details are in the physics engine is amazing.
A much smaller change, but just as much needed imo is one to Link's backflip animation, if you L target and jump back for a backflip with your shield out in botw he holds the shield more or less in place and it looks really goofy, but in totk they've fixed it so that when doing a backflip Link holds the shield out to the side, like you would irl.
I noticed #6 a few times in my playthrough. It makes climbing walls over water much more bearable!
Thank you for the slow motion recaps. it actually saves people who are interested in the video from having to rewind just to fully interpret the differences. Keeps the video flowing, so all done
i think i liked the botw melting ice more, it just feels right
I noticed the ice melts much faster in TOTK and I appreciate that
Does ice slowly thaw and then break into massive pieces when you apply a fire torch to it?
@@Nopeasaurus idk i dont play
Love this series! I can't wait for the next one! I feel like I'm seeing that the amount Link slips when climbing in the rain is a greater distance in Tears of the Kingdom. Would love to see if that's actually true
I think that's true, it's much harder to climb in wet environments in ToTK like almost impossible, but that was just from my experience.
That shows us links guardian ability is the bullet time move, I'm glad link left and mastered it for us
Heres a nice detail, whenever you wear the champions mask from BoTW. The sage spirt will aslo wear a mask depending on which mask you're wearing
I really do think they perfected a lot of things in this system it’s really nice !! Even subtle changes makes it more immersive
I didn't even know about the spicy pepper thing in BotW
I don’t think I can ever play botw again after playing totk😂😂
There is new splash animation and sound when you jump into the water from high altitudes. The water splashes higher in the air and the drops fall down around you, really cool detail.
first video i watch of you and the intro is FIRE
As someone who spends and unreasonable amount of time with horses in these two games, the removal of the “couldn’t hear your call” message was very disorienting. I just assumed my horse was in range but wasn’t responding for some reason.
4:55 also if we run out of energy while paragliding, we still have one more chance to draw out our paraglide to land safely
Something I've noticed in totk is when you have the zora armor equipped and are jumping (or falling) into a waterfall Link will automatically start swimming up. While in botw you just fell down into the waterfall.
SOOOOOOOOOO helpful😩
How about this: Upgrading Gear from the Great Fairy no longer puts the upgraded gear at the back of the inventory.
the stamina wheel display can show the RED (not glowing white) across multiple wheels when one of the rings is about to be depleted, in TOTK, BOTW’s red section just stops at the terminal (where the meter switches rings at the top) until the red is completely gone on outer ring.
Had not even realised the changes to stamina consumption in bullet time 😮
It's a shame they removed the music for the Temple of Time Ruins in TotK
Quality of life improvements are so much appreciated
these are making me so excited for when i get totk :D also still learning new things about botw!!
Nice video! Another thing I noticed was that the lightning and thunder sound slightly different, and, too me at least, the lightning is less cartoonish looking
Also the blood moon is in super high definition in the cutscene, like it looks incredible
4:25 this saved me more times than I would like to admit
I actually noticed most of these on my own. I have abused the stamina refilling in water mechanic many times. Though, I wasn’t exactly sure what the trigger was.
Another ice change I greatly appreciate: hitting melting ice with fire weapons greatly speeds up the melting in TotK, while in BotW it barely affected it.
??
I always used three fire arrows to remove large ice crystals. I see no difference in TOTK.
Literally not true lmao
Don’t worry, it seems way faster to me too!
I noticed this as well. It's faster in totk
@@winstonsol8713 fire _weapons_
That midair bow stamina change explains why I was able to aim at a construct that launched a rocket at me even after gliding and free falling to the point of having a tiny red sliver of stamina left to pull out the glider just before I hit the ground. I was kind of amazed that I had enough left to aim and shoot before landing.
This is excellent , thanks for sharing .
I would like to share something I noticed the first time I played Botw.
Can you hear the birds singing at 5:01?
It is the same soundtrack that the one used in Megaman Legends for ps1 or n64
1:22 Something I’ve noticed in the TOTK footage is that the sound effect for melting ice is a lot more noticeable than in BOTW.
"As long as we don't touch the ground again" Sounds like a fun new objective in glitch hunting
There’s a bridge in Kakariko, under which an apple was stashed in BotW. In TotK, there are two apples.
The change to bullet time is amazing! Helps to get a better headshot.
It helps when you don't have to write a completely new game engine. TotK is like Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time.
Great video, but I'm not sure if "subtle" is the right word for number 7. It's a fairly simple mechanic, but it's a vast improvement and instantly noticeable.
It's always the little and subtle changes that make all the difference.
-- The water stamina change -- I thought I was just rubbing the cliffside long enough to get a second of stamina back, didn't realize it was a new feature. Probably added since people will be landing in water after depleting paraglider stamina right?
-- Bullet time stamina -- One of my favorite changes. Makes bullet time and vertical combat options so much more fun. Also just nice to be able and observe what's around me / aim without loosing three elixirs of stamina in just a few seconds.
Love all the updates. Especially being able to drop weapons when your inventory is full. However, is it just me, but I think I like the way the old water droplets looked? Overall, great improvements.
A subtle difference I noticed is in botw when you flurry rush, the text says "Flurry Rush". In totk, the text says "Flurry rush" with a lowercase 'r'
Omg How did u not notice that it is so 💯 obvious 😮😮😮😮😮
Wow how I didn't noticed it :o
Maybe was because I play the game in Spanish, and just say "Atacar" (attack)
@@CebGIN English: *fancy move name*
Spanish: ATTACK
I do love that a lot of the same stuff that was possible in botw were moved over to this game, like with the spicy pepper updraft. I love testing to see what still works
I noticed bullet time one when fighting lynel. It made the combat easier.
i noticed the one in the thumbnail when i was admiring how hot link was and was surprised when he looked down but rlly just walked off a cliff
at 3:45 that sounds like a part of Rennamon's Biomerge Digivolution from Digimon Tamers.
The fact that this was suggested the day D4 comes out is not a coincidence
One thing I noticed is your video clips look MUCH better when zoomed in on BOTW. Is there a change in TOTK to explain this?
Another small thing is that climbing waterfalls with the Zora armor now functions like standing on the ground from a stamina perspective. The wheel will refill as you climb, instead of it draining a small amount and then staying constant.
With the bow stamina one I’m so grateful for it bc my aiming sucks so it takes me so long to fire mid air and hate when I ran out of stamina in botw but down I can take longer time without stamina running out
i actually like the old melting effect more, the droplets look more shiny and realistic, its satisfying to look at
I had no clue about bullet time not using stamina if you don't fire the bow. I kept trying to fire my bow as quick as possible. I thought it decreased while in Bullet Time but also decreased faster when firing the bow. I never paid close attention to it I guess.
#6 is such a nice change, just a beautiful quality of life decision that I never expected to be added but am so thankful was
The close ups and side by sides were really interesting. I would like to see more games reviewed like this-- for games as in this case, where the sequel gameplay looks identical at first glance. Examples: Super Maro Bros/Lost Levels. Castlevania 1/3. Zelda Hourglass/Tracks. Mario Galaxy 1/2. Gunman Clive 1/2. Also anything that was remade in HD or 3D. There are hundreds.
this thumbnail image is so funny it looks like the virgin vs chad meme
Tbh BotW Link is the Chad; man has no fear. Just walks up to the edge of a cliff and doesn't even look
How do u get shots at the end
I noticed bullet time seemed to last longer but I didn't realize why that was.
That weapon switching one has actually messed me up a few times. i wish I could switch it back to BOTW style.
my question about the weapon chest drop thing. In some instances, seemingly randomly, the popup won't happen, and I'll need to manually drop the item like in BOTW. this only happens sometimes though. Very confused as to what triggers the popup to happen
I dont know why in my game the "climb down" button only appears at a certain distance from the edge ;/ no matter how far or close im on the edge i have to be at a certain point until it gives me the option to climb down.
When you beat the game the Title screen adds the three extra wall murals that were covered by the rubble at the beginning.
the face link makes when using his stable points to get a reward is very funny
The blurred water droplets on ice I bet is the FSR the game is using for resolution. It does that in other games like dead space remake
How is it that I have over 400hrs into BotW and and only NOW learning that burning peppers creates an updraft?!!
3:35 new slowrunning strat
