Well i was an alcoholic for about 20 years. Non alcoholic beers actually helped me a lot to quit alcohol. I tried almost every non alcoholic beer from every part of the world. I spent lots of money in non alcoholic beverages but i never regret it. 2 years clean and sober.

This is why i left recovery, opinions can be very dangerous making you live in constant fear and anxiety that your going to go back to your old ways. Its so sad i used to love recovery and fellowship but my life now socialising playing golf hanging around with friends who drink and being able to enjoy a non alcholic beer and just live a normal life free from watching and analysing every single thing i do is far more rewarding then chasing the approval of people in recovery. I must note i done the first 5 years in my recovery never going near non alcholic beer and working a very strong program but now living everyday life i feel no desire to have an alcholic beer or do drugs. Shame i cant go to meetings anymore because of people like yourself judging peoples decision's we are all different some people are stronger then others and some people need to avoid everyone who isnt in recovery both are fine you got to find your on way, just a shame people like you look down and judge other people in recovery not doing it like yourself. Not everything is a problem be happy and no1 rule dont pick up and enjoy your life.

5:25 Fail a drug test for alcohol by consuming non alcoholic beer?
Where the hell did you hear that? Gossip from your friends?
It's so funny to hear those kinda talks sometimes. Talking nonsense, thinking they're right. And simply being to ignorant to do proper research.
Normally I wouldn't bother. Just go about ignoring things like that. But this topic is touchy. Lots of people I know told me how NA beers helped them stay clean.
So to everyone reading this and struggling with their addiction, non-alcoholc beverages are good to slowly ease out of it. Or for anyone who doesn't want to give up on beer entirely. As long as you stay with the non-alcoholic there's nothing to worry about.
    And here's why:
What happens first to any liquid you drink? It gets cleansed in your liver. All harmful substances (like alcohol) get broken down and flushed out. To get drunk you'll need to consume enough alcohol where your liver can't keep up and the alcoholic blood reaches the brain.
And THAT is just not possible with any 0.5% beverages. Your liver gets rid of it to quickly. You'd need to drink more than 12 large cans in under an hour just to get tipys. And truthfully, you'll get sick before you get drunk if you drink that much.
Fun fact: Lots of softdrink have small amouts of alcohol in them. 0.3% in coke. But you dont get drunk on coke now do you?

Would you tell a meth addict that coffee is a no-no? Caffeine can be a powerful stimulant as is nicotine; no shortage of coffee and cigarettes in AA even though AA says to swear off all drugs and alcohol. Anyway that seems analogous to Vodka vs. O'Douls. Anyway if it works for you go for it imo. And if you relapse alternatively then it was a bad idea. Case by case basis I say.

Put it this way if you think about drinking non alcoholic beer to get the euphoric recall and you start thinking maybe I should just get the real thing then that should be alarm bells for you right there. I only started drinking non alcoholic beer 2 years into recovery because I was sick of drinking coke all the time. I don't get the craving to drink an actual beer and I don't feel the need to drink all of them at once either. I could have a 6 pack of zero beers in my house and forget that I had them. That would never happen with the real thing in addiction! So all the things people said maybe was a big problem for them, i knew one guy in rehab who said the sound of cracking open a can made him want a beer. Then again that's early recovery for ya, I think it's important that you reached the state of neutrality towards alcohol and you assess beforehand and check your motivation for drinking non zero beers. I think in early recovery I wouldn't advise it but once you've done some work on yourself you will know what your conscience deems right or wrong.

You really needn't worry about the 0.5% alcohol in NA beers. It's impossible to get drunk on that litttle bit. Or get addicted again for the matter.
Every liquid gets cleaned first in your liver before it moves anywhere else in your body. And 0.5% alcohol is so litte that you liver has no problem getting rid of it immediately. And after that it's just like any other softdrink. As long as you stick to NA beers you won't ever mess up your recovery.

Even after this video I am still not sure whether I am helping or teasing myself
My favorite NA beer is 'Penns Best' and here in VA it can be bought in a 6 pack of cans for $4 at our local Total Wine. It is far better tasting than ODouls and a fraction of the price. I remember seeing how expensive non alcoholic beer was in the regular store and thinking whats the point when I can get the real thing for the same price or less. A lot of times the price alone was enough to keep me from at least trying to get better.
Another thought, when I 420d it up (which I am not advocating) a large part of how I became addicted to beer was to help manage cottonmouth. So these kinds of things may be good for those who do not wish to stop smoking but do want to cut out alcohol.

NA beer is a great alternative for me when I go to a bar with my friends and doesn't make me feel isolated or left out in the social group. As for the alcohol content, .05%? Sure maybe some folks should be avoiding it, but for a lot of us? Not a worry. You'd be surprised by the amount of food, drinks and medicine that have alcohol in it.
Frankly, as somewho who works with addicts professionally and as someone in recovery, y'all seem like youre encouraging people in alcohol to continue having alcohol control their lives by distracting how they can maintain sobriety. You're taking and individual's power away.

Nonalcoholic beer doesn’t even taste like beer. We were allowed to have it in Iraq when I was in the Army. We were not allowed to have real beer. PEOPLE DID HAVE REAL ALCOHOL. They either got it from the Iraqis, had it sent from home or made their own “prison whiskey”.
I can understand that it can be kind of a “gateway drug”. People say Marijuana is not a gateway drug, but, I disagree. Some people use weed, then get curious about other drugs. They sometimes try other drugs after using weed. I happen to use Medical Marijuana. I don’t use anything else except alcohol and Chocolate. I mention Chocolate both as a joke and seriously. Because, I am allergic to milk, but, I don’t care, I still love chocolate. It has a chemical in it that affects your brain. It makes you feel good and it tastes great!
There has been a lot of research done on sugar. Scientists gave 100 rats Cocaine and sugar. They got them addicted to both. They ran them through a maze with 2 different exits. They did the maze several times. They knew the location of both exits. The Scientists putt Cocaine at One exit and sugar at the other. About 97 of the rats went straight for the sugar and not the Cocaine.
That proves Sugar is much more addictive than one of the world’s most addictive drugs (Cocaine)!
I have never been addicted to anything except Chocolate. But, I know a lot of people who are recovering addicts. They were addicted to either drugs and/or alcohol.
Most of them have successfully recovered. Some have relapsed. In fact, I have an uncle who was an alcoholic. He went to AA and stopped drinking for 5 or 6 years. Then he started drinking again. He eventually committed suicide. He shot himself.

I feel it depends on individual to individual. My dad is a recovering crack addict and he actively avoids certain streets and sections of town cause just being in the area triggers his cravings. I had a horrible energy drink addiction and since well, you can buy them anywhere I had to try really hard not to let smell and surroundings trigger me. I switched to coffee and gator-aid to help curb that addiction. I found that I was addicted to the rush of the caffeine and the rest of the stimulants that was inside the drinks as well as the fruity taste, so I found that black coffee paired with a gator-aide helped me break free from that. So I find that for some, an alternative or an outlet that is similar helps, and for others, it does not help.

Damn. That’s the hood stuff. One time I mixed real lean codine (purple ) with the jolly ranchers and ginger ale. Then took 3 shots of 151 Bacardi and blacked out then woke up at an house party getting grinded on by a bad rican.
