- Friends, I am so excited to be sharing my 20th episode with you! Thank you SO MUCH for all the love and support you have shown me. In this video, I show you how I make an insanely delicious meal: Eru.
Eru is the traditional meal of the Manyu people of Cameroon. The eru leaves are called okazi/ukazi in Nigeria. A similar meal to the one I show you in this video is prepared by the people of Cross Rivers State in Nigeria.

YOU are awesome Precious....wish I lived at your house specially during dinner! 🤓 African American who loves African food... I would just call them greens... every African culture seems to have some version of this.
This is also called Afang soup in Nigeria. You got the right stuff and you are talented chef.
Rex Essenowo yes its very similar to Afang. Thank you so much!
Rex Essenowo we actually use waterleaf too! I only used spinach because I can't find waterleaf where I live.
I attended a Cameroon event, and the eru was good. I wanted more, so I decided to make my own. Your recipe came to the rescue. It was the best eru I have ever made. Thanks!
Love the Video, Eru is my favorite dish and I also love fresh vegetables from africa so I am growing my own waterleaf sweet bitter leaf and other African vegetables here in the US. Keep up the good work.
Proper afang soup has to be prepared with the leafs from camaroon , it taste absolutely delicious.Cameroon is my second home i just need a boat ride to go over and get my eru with snails😋😋but in Akwaibom our leaves are also pounded to give it that lovely consitency
Loyal follower of Precious core, you've saved me from embarrassment several occasions, i must publicly thank you.
Jerry Ville that's so fulfilling to know. Thanks so much for taking out the time to let me know!
I'm telling you.
I am Nigerian from the northern part of cross River state and we share a boundary with Cameroon and this is our ethnic soup we call it Eruru soup. Best soup in the world 💯👌🏽the men from my place can eat this soup everyday all year round 😊
Thank you sis for confirming with my own method as I see others putting eru before water leaf or spinach .your method is the best
Omg I made this soup for the the first time last week using these directions. Precious gives the best meal prep directions on RUclips. The eru came out perfect and my family enjoyed this meal. Thanks Sis Precious you are amazing blessings!

Before I really didnt like to cook ahha. Cuz Im living abroad so I felt like it's too difficult or complicated... plus being from the Littoral region of Cameroon I did'nt really know how to prepare the almighty #Eru... tho we used to cook it at home but I was'nt paying attention lol. But when I started following you I got to learn a lot cuz you actually make cooking simple. I will be preparing my first eru today 24/11/17 and Im sooo excited 😊 cuz eru is in my Top 3 of best food ever on earth! Thank u maa, your young sister/daughter from Cameroon God bless ya

Thanks hon. Great recipe. I am cooking this. Looks yummy.
Aunty Precious, eru is my favorite food and this looks so delicious! I cant wait to get my ingredients after this quarantine. When will you release your cookbook?
Hi friends, here is a note for you. A few of you might not find the comments you posted under this video. That's because I deleted the first Eru video I posted. The video you commented on was missing a part so I had to delete it and put in the missing footage then upload again. Thanks so much to one of you who alerted me about the missing one. So sorry that your comments got lost with the first video. But I read every one of them and I appreciate them. Thank you all for understanding!
Precious Kitchen Precious ur eru is perfect.
aww this is so lovely tanx sis..i am nigerian and we make it just like u guys but we call it a different name ...
Vegitable soup my dear. It looks perfect.
Thank you!
You really know how to cook. Looks yummy 😋 😋 😋 😋
At 7:30 it looks like greens. I think the term you are looking for in English would be stew. Stews are less liquid but still moist and are full of chunks. Can be chunks of meat or large chunks of veggies. But that looked delicious!
kirlanda4ever thanks for your kind words, dear. Stew sounds interesting!
Your recipes are a great help to me any time am short of how to go about a particular dish
So glad to hear that!
My son loves this so much
Perfect video 👍
OMG IT LOOKS SO TASTY THANKS FOR THE RECIPE
You are welcome, Priscille.
I like the way she started with the cooking 🍽
Thank God I found the Chanel to perfect my cooking skills especially eru I need to perfect my skills on that
and the best procedure I could easily understand, cos I want to learn how to cook it ,))
Wow this is awesome dear thank you
Yum
Hey Precious you are the bomb I like ALL your recipes and procedures and they all work well for me. Thank you very much. And your wooden bowls are so nice, where can I get mine?
Nkwain Ngeah thanks so much, dear. I bought my bowls from a garage sale. Depending on where you live you could get something similar online.
Precious Kitchen thank you . 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Hello, I am Korean and I have a friend from Cameroon. Eru is my friend's favorite Cameroon food. I want to cook for him. Your cooking video looks very easy and simple. And it looks very delicious. Can you teach me the recipe in English?
I'm Cameroonian and my friend is also Korean.
W h a t
precious you no go kill me with your cookings love it
lilian okafor thank you dear.
Is there a substitute for eru/ukazi leaf in America?
Good job sister
Awesome video love from pakistan keep it up:)
We call it fumbwa in congo. And we cook it with mamba (natural peanut butter
Looks like callaloo or Jamaican Spinach c:
In Guyana 🇬🇾 we called it eddo leave or dasheen leave ...love it very much.
You just gave me an idea. I don’t always care for a lot of regular spinach but callaloo is good to me in bulk. Maybe I can make with that 😀
@@allthatsheiz yes share it with us!
Chaii Precious I literally salivate at the end of each of your videos.😂
angel Nancy and
Hi Aunty. Is it normal if my eru was bitter?? What am I suppose to do next time for not having this result?
Delicious Cameroon dish
greaaaaaat @Camer.....
Made my first eru. It was epic thanks to you. I'm male and live alone in Bamenda. There's no excuse for not being able to cook anymore
You can say that again.
HI PRECIOUS, I JUST SUBSCRIBED ON YOUR CHANNEL
I'M FROM NIGERIA BUT LIVES IN SOUTHERN AMERICA I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL IS VERY EDUCATING. I OWNED A RESTAURANT HERE AND I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ERO IN MY MANU PLEASE WHAT CAN I USE AS A SUBST FOR ERO/OKAZI ? THANKS
hei sister, u have a great recipie. i want to ask if the baking soda help to bring back the gree colour to the eru?
ako teclaire the baking soda helps the eru looks greener. I used dried eru here and you can see that it looks green. However, if your dried eru is very brown I doubt it it will become very green. Hope this helps.
ok sis God bless you. sure it helped
I'm so mad I have no idea where my background is from. I see similarity in Jamaican food and African dishes but I know our culture is a culmination of all the lifestyles of Jamaican ancestors from Europe, China, India and Africa. Wish I could find my tribe and really learn about my African roots. Sigh.
This recipe reminds me of how we cook collard/kale/turnip green in the USA. I'm wondering if I can find Eru greens here? Would most African grocers carry it? Thanks for the video - I feel like I can smell it through my iPad! Lol
Yes, you can find it dry and packaged in African grocery stores.
Yes it will be called Ukazi leaves
Super
We are waiting for crayfish rice🤗
this recipe is so wow but want to ask how to make very green eru...that recipe I've not yet gotten
Hi precious, where do you buy the ERU LEAVES? I want to prepare it plz
Hi, I get the leaves precut and dried from African stores.
Waoh! Now i know an alternative way to cook dried eru. I think it's better to call it sauce rather than soup because it is not watery.
Right? Sauce sounds better than soup.
You are so nice... thanks for the recipe
Omg i love eru with gari
khanbibi me too!
Me three!
MyYTChannel Me four
Love the feeling from your face after eating😘😅
Good evening ma pre please help me I have cook eru and water leaf is much inside and water doesn't want to dry off what can I do🙏🙏
hi , can i go about it without the crayfish ? actually i cant find any where i live . anything to replace the crayfish? Thanks in advance
Hi, unfortunately crayfish is so crucial in this recipe. My mom always says it is the key ingredient. Can you find dried shrimp, though? That will be the closest thing to crayfish. Also use shrimp seasoning cubes (Maggi) if you can so the flavor is enhanced. Hope this helps.
Precious is the eri soaked in bicarbonate soda with cold or warm water? For how long?
Warm water for 8 hours or overnight.
Thank you.
Just Subscribe to support your Channel! Wow food looks great love spinach. So different, I like cat fish 🐟 & Shrimp 🍤 but don't like other fish's. 🥰
I realized that when I add oil into my eru before the water is dry in the pot, the water never dry completely. And I make it with Maggie prawns, it tastes better
Pls I really wish to know the exact proportion of fresh eru to water leaves.
I want to try this but what is Eru called in the US?
You can find Eru in African stores labeled as "Eru", "Okazi" or "Ukazi". It is sold dried.
Show show lol it seems like you do your hair every week, looking beautiful. as for that eru hmmmm i don't want to go to the kitchen now ohhh .my mouth is so salivary now ohh
Lol at show show!
What are eru leaves in english ? I am in the United states and would like to try this dish
Precious I think I have had this before, but agussi was in the spinach, can you do a spinach and agussi with the fufu recipe please, or is this 🤔 the same recipe just without the agussi?
No, that's another recipe. I will keep that in mind.
u look so natural and beautifulB-) let me watch the video now
Dana TCHUISSEU thanks darling.
Please how long do I boil the meat for
Hi Shania, you boil it until the meat is tender. The timing will depend on the toughness of the meat. Hope this helps.
Can you use frozen spinach. I'm short of time cooking today. Don't want to go through fresh spinach lol
You can.
NO CRITICS BUT JUST TO COMMENT, you have the perfect recipe,. good procedure but your eru is very watery, leave the water to dry out then add the palm oil. if you like it wet then add a little bit of water after the oil. never add palm oil while the eru is still boiling or cooking in the water leaf or spinach. am sure your eru taste nice but it looks watery. try what i mentioned you will see a great improvement on how your eru taste and even looks. and also add a little cray fish when your meat and kanda is boiling not all of your cray fish just a little and let it cook with the fish adds more cray fish taste to the eru and gives it more flavor. then you can add the rest of the cray fish after the oil just as you did. eru seems easy to make but you need to know what to put in and at what time to have the perfect eru. great job babes, i really love your channel i learned how to make njama njama from you . so am also giving you a little tip on eru . i wont comment on how you eat it, its totally wrong but its your style so just enjoy
great job
Tabe Ebangha thanks for sharing, dear! I totally get where you are coming from about the eru being watery. But note that I am cooking dried eru in this video. From experience, cooking dried eru the way you mentioned often results in very chewy eru. That's why I let it stay moist - this method works perfectly everytime with dried eru.
Also, I don't think there is a wrong way to eat eru. My mom is bayangi and growing up, I was never told my way of eating was wrong. I'm curious - could you please explain what the right way is?
Thanks for the crayfish tip! I'll definitely try that.
Precious Kitchen exactly! you where never told but that doesn't mean it's right. Never mine , as I said enjoy. It's your way. I eat it as you do some times but it's wrong but it's better to eat it as you do bcz I do it too. And it way easier. But it's not right am not getting into details of how it should be eaten if you where never told even by the bayangi you have at home then she too doesn't know. The traditional way of eating it is dying out. Am almost forgetting it my self. Your method is easier and I do it too but it's totally wrong. I was never told that I eat Achu the wrong way until some had the courage to tell me and I learnt the right way but still not perfect, so how you eat it doesn't matter the most important is that you enjoy it and it gets to your tummy. Which is why I said I won't comment on your eating style cuz it doesn't matter but if you want to learn the real way to eat eru I will gladly teach you or u can ask real bayangui in your neighborhood
Precious Kitchen my mum never told me either that I was eating it wrong only others told me that I was doing it wrong. So you can also learn from others not only from your mum and not only because she didn't tell you it was wrong.
Your right dry eru is kind of weird but let the water dry out and then add in the oil then if you want it wet add water after the oil not before, it makes the eru look like porridge you porridge plantain, the water and oil mixture, And soupy but if you add water after the oil it is barely noticeable. A perfect eru is moist but not soupy as u said and I know it's dry eru so water is necessary but add a little after the oil. Just try it and then let me know how it went. I really love your videos especially the Achu video and the Kati Kati video learned a lot. Thanks a million
Precious Kitchen an also from my experience of cooking dry eru. If you use the right amount if spinach you won't need water just cuz it's dry eru . It will be just perfect and not soupy cuz it's dry eru. It will turn out as the fresh one weather it was soaked in water and baking soda or not
@@tabeebangha1151 you said all of that just to say that you wouldn't tell her the correct way to eat it. Even after she asks you the correct way you turn around and say "I'm not going to get into details..ask someone from your neighborhood." What sense does that make?? You should've just kept your mouth closed or made the correction. Just telling someone they're doing it wrong and not providing the correct way is a waste of time.
Something to call it that's in between stir fry and soup like you ask.. we say a stew.. maybe that is the word to use?
+1
Eru is just cooked vegetable so I wouldn't call it a soup. 😉😉😉
the eur looks good, my dear your kitchen looks different. you don change house? abeg you fix make miss girl puff puff?
No na de same house. Ah never make miss girl puff puff before but I make awesome gateau. Will share a recipe soon.
