I'm planning to have a new one up soon! The winter break and moving my studio hasn't left much time for recording, but it's lovely to know you were enjoying it :)
I had knit two blanket squares and had a bulkier start. Now that I have found this one, I will be using it. Thank you for a concise tutorial. I hope to make a Musselburgh hat sometime soon. This was just as easy as the crochet start. =]
Thank you so much for this and all the other Musselburgh-related videos! I cast on my first back in November and struggled hard with it, ended up frogging as I measured my gauge wrong. Now that I’m trying again I’ve watched all your videos and I feel much more confident this one will be better!
I had difficulties in maintaining the last 4 stitches on the circular needle, but got through attaching them with a removable marker, the results are very satisfying. Is there a possibility that using a provisional cast on, passing the yarn through the stitches and pulling it could yield the same results?
Thanks for adding more videos on all the Musselburgh steps. I’ve been using magic loop for the 4 hats I’ve made and have had success but I’ve got ladders on my last hat and can’t figure out why. Any tips on avoiding them? Using 14 inch chia goo cable and stitches are well spaced but should it be a longer cable to avoid ladders?
Hi Ysolda, your Musselburgh hat is amazing. I’m new to knitting and I’ve just bought your pattern. If I use the 4 DPN’s method how easy is it to switch them to 16 inches circular needles. Is it just literally transferring the total amount of stitches from two dpn needles on one side of the circular needle and same for the other side? Sorry if this sounds like a silly and maybe obvious question to more advanced knitters 😊 Your help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻 Thank you 😊
I would love to do this pattern but would probably use magic loop as DPN’s are sold in sets of 4 in Australia. Yes I could buy two sets 😊 just annoying.
I am asking this question again in another way. I have the pattern. I have two markers placed. I will be frogging again. I am not getting the 4 cross. Do I need more markers? Is there a place I can go watch the Musselburgh from beginning to after the increases?
The name? It’s a town outside Edinburgh - lots of my patterns have place names and this one was originally a fishing village which seemed fitting for a classic hat like this.
I am totally obsessed with the musselburgh hat pattern! I’m on my 4th one! One I did using up my scraps and the others I used malabrigo rios from my favorite LYS . Here in Colorado, I get to wear my hat most days when hiking with my dog❤️👍🧶😄
I’m looking forward to knitting my first Musselburgh hat. I miss your podcast. Hope you come back on a regular basis.

I crochet the magic circle then picked up the stitches for knitting. Will differently be sharing this with my knitting group.
Lord, I wish I had this video in the beginning. I have started two and love this pattern.

Thank you! I hope you love it ❤
Appreciate this tutorial so much. I slowed it down even more in the settings and knit right along with you.
Fantastic tutorial! I will try these other techniques in the future and definitely to make your Musselburgh hat ❤Thank you
Love this tutorial. I’m more motivated now to start my Musselburgh hat. TY
Another wonderful lesson! 😊

Thanks, I have had the Musselburah pattern for months. Attempted the cast on and 😢
Will try again on bigger yarn and needles. Hope it works.
You can do it!

My first and last stitches of my cast on are always very loose and hard to work with :( any tips on how to correct this?
Thank you for the share!
Thank you sooo much!❤❤❤
Thanks so much for sharing 🩶
I have never made this hat yet!! I Want to but for some reason I do not understand the increases on magic loop??
Perfect ❤
Thank you so much!!!❤

Hi Julie, we also give starting directions in the pattern for magic loop, and in this tutorial!
Thank you for this tutorial it is soooooo helpful! What length circular needle do you recommend for musselburgh cast on?
For magic loop I'd recommend at least a 60cm / 24" circular needle but a longer one will be a bit easier to manage.
This is great when we do not have a crochet hook at hand. Thanks !
You’re welcome 😊

Disregard the above. Once I switched to 5 dpns I was able to figure it out and reading my work was easier.
Would you share the brand of needles, both dpn and circ, used in this video? Thank you!
Sure - the longer bamboo dpns, the black ones with metal tips and the circular are all KnitPro and I think the shorter dpns are Clover
@@ysoldateague thank you so much for your quick reply. Oh, forgot to say this is an excellent video!
Why Musselburgh?

Much too much talk !!!!
Yeah, @ysoldateague, how DARE you talk on your own video? Totally inappropriate behavior. What were you thinking?
🙄
i just skipped the intro lol
At least what she was saying was positive and helped everyone out, on the other hand what you said was very rude. Just saying.
