Thank you for remembering that there are non-right-handed folks in the world! You have warmed my heart! Now scurrying over to watch the other video....
OMG, you are amazing! Thank you so much again, for helping me through this Musselburgh hat cast on. After 6-7 tries, I found your video, and I am on my way!! YAY to you. AND, by the way, welcome to Portland, Maine! Hope you enjoyed your visit. It is a great place to visit, and an even better place to live, so Welcome! And thank you again.
THANK YOU!!! I am on my 6th hat and have always struggled with this cast on. Today I tried your method and within 5 minutes I was increasing and already on a roll. Best explanation ever.
Grazie mille, Natty! You've made this so clear and understandable. I just bought the pattern, watched a video about the pinhole cast on with dpns and nearly gave up the whole idea. Then I watched this video. I can do this. There is a musselburgh hat in my near future. Thank you.
as a crochter the cast on wasn't the hard part, but I definitely needed the how to flip the stitches and get them ready for magic loop tutorial. Thanks for this.
At last! I have struggled with this cast on for.ev.er and yours is the best tutorial I have seen. After following along, this is the first time I finally got it. Thanks so much. P.S. As the mom to a lefty, it's pretty cool that you did a whole video just for them.
Thank you so much for the right AND left hand videos. I crochet left handed but am an English style knitter. I cant wait to make my first Musslerburgh hat!!!
Thank you so much I’ve tried all day to cast on for my hat with just the knitting needle .I couldn’t figure it out. I found this video and I was so excited that it worked . I bought the pattern. I’m working on my first hat .
I like how this got posted a few hours ago, and I just bought this pattern literally last night, and now I feel prepared to do it, thanks to your tutorial!
Thank you so so very much! The clearest and easiest tutorial for this hat pattern cast on yet! I so appreciate how you also show in detail how to correctly get the stitches oriented on the knitting needles before actually starting the project. I was totally missing that part:)
This was a very clear video. I actually struggled so much with the crochet cast-on I gave up, until I found a video that did almost the same thing but using knitting needles throughout. But your version is so detailed, I may well try this again.
Thank you so very much for your tutorial, because casting on with double-pointed needles gives me 'the vapours.' I infinitely prefer to work the Magic Loop, so now I will purchase the Musselburgh Hat pattern. I live in Canada, where cold temperatures require well-padded, layered hats. Bless you for making the Musselburgh Hat achievable for this Magic Loop advocate.
Natalie, this is the easiest tutorial that I have been able to follow . Yourinstructions are clear and precise. And slow enough for me to follow along with you. I have knit two Hats and had to at cast on rip off cast on so manyalmost gave up on knitting a hat at all. But, I’ve feel confident with these instructions, and video I think I will be knitting Quite a few hats in the future. Thank you thank you thank you😊😊
I bought the pattern last year and absolutely could not figure out the cast on…SO THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You explanations are so clear and easy to understand! I can hear the “teacher” in you😉Now to cast on a HAT!!!!❤️
Thank you!! I have watched so many videos and even took it to my LYS who very kindly started one for me but I made a mistake and wanted to start over and could not do it. This is EXACTLY what I needed to see to try again 😊
Wow... what a great clear slow precise tutorial! I am a crocheter and knitter, so this start is right up my alley! 😊 thank you for making the beginning of this hat pattern easy! I do like using magic loop, and not dp's... so thank you ! New subscriber here.
I can’t thank you enough for this tutorial! I’m a crocheter who is learning to knit and I’ve been wanting to make this pattern so badly but the cast on has been what has been stopping me from attempting this project.
Love this pattern. I have 3 Musselburgh WIPS going right now. Didn’t think of changing the orientation. What a great idea! Thanks for making this tutorial!
Omg Natty....your awesome...lol...I've made several of these now, and the itch has started again to knit more!...but the cast on is tricky...you make the best and most helpful videos....kisses to Toaster!
Thank you so much! I’m starting my 4th Musselburgh hat today! They are so fun to make and this starter is icing on the cake! Did you know the history behind them? I believe they were used by WWI soldiers, because they were so warm, and since they were extra long could also be as a scarf or heaven forbid a tourniquet if needed.
Thank you thank you thank you soooo much! I've tried to cast on this hat 20 times and couldn't figure out how to make it work. Can't wait to make mine start now.
Thanks Natalie. I've just started my fifth Mussellburgh hat and followed your video for the cast on. It is so neat. I'm also a left handed knitter. soooo good. Thank you again
I have been so anticipating this tutorial. I want to make the hat. I bought the pattern, and this seems so difficult to start. I am a new knitter I year in today! Thanks Natalie ❤
Thank you sooo much! This is perfect timing, since I am about to cast on my very first Musselburgh in a few days :) So, thanks for the very clear and helpful tutorial!
Amazing 🙌🏻 I have never been able to successfully knit in the round so far. Seeing your Musselburgh hats made me want to try, but that cast on was an exercise in frustration. Crocheting it is genius.
Natalie! Thank you so much for this. I’ve been wanting to knit this hat for years, but so afraid to start one. I’m hoping I’ll be successful now that you have done this video. 💜💙
I know that this is a paid pattern but I have heard some knitters having issue with the increases? Is there a way for you to do a tutorial on how increases are done? Not the count of the stitches because I wouldn't want you to give out the pattern itself, but rather the process on how the increase is done? I'm a visual learner and I would love to see how the steps or maybe method of how the increase is done? I hope I made sense. I'm hesitant to buy the pattern is I can't understand how the increases are done because then I will just be stuck and not do the pattern... and money down the drain. Thank you.
Hey! I think the issues people have had is understanding how to set up the increases, spacing-wise. It is written in a more complex way than needed, in my opinion. The increase technique itself is just m1r and m1l. There are tons of tutorials out there for those specific stitches! If you have any trouble setting up the increase row, feel free to email me: knittynatty @ gmail.com. I’m happy to help!
It would be great of you had authorization to do a tutorial for the hat. I'm only two years into knitting and would love to have my own collection of Musselburgh hats. I bought the pattern about a year ago and haven't had the courage to give it a go😊🤭😬
Thank you for the amazing explanation! I have tried to start this hat I don’t know how many times only to frog it. Maybe now I can get through the increases and finish one.
Excellent tutorial, Natty. I had trouble years ago with this cast on , since then Laura has remade her original video and by George I got it the first time I watched it. The next Musselburgh I make I’ll use this method and see how I like it. I knit and crochet so I’ve plenty of crochet hook sizes as well as interchangeable needle sets. ;) New Subbie here, just learned of you over the past weekend.
I just went through your tutorials, yesterday, looking for this! Lol! I thought I had missed it. But, I found your cuff down sock series (which I LOVE! I did leave a comment too! 😊). I will be checking out the toe up series too. I've made my supply list of things that I need to pick up so I can make some socks and give the afterthought heel a try. This cast on looks so much easier than using DPN's and I think I can use it with the pattern I've found for a hat that is a similar construction to the musselburgh. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For your wonderful tutorials. I always learn so much! 💜✌️🧶
Hi Natalie. Just watched today's video. Love the tutorial! I'll have to try that next time. Looks a lot neater and easier than a long tail. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Thank you so much! I had started the hat with a provisional cast on from the bottom up but felt like I was cheating! I really wanted to do it crown down and your video was fantastic!!
I hated this cast on! I would do magic instead, but it didn’t look great. This video is awesome and I can’t wait to try it. There’s a blanket I liked and avoided because it had the same cast in. Thank you for this!
Legend says that if you stand in front of a mirror and say, "Musselburgh Hat" three times, Natty appears and knits a hat for you in 15 minutes 😂😂
🤣😂🤣
😂
Oh, wouldn't THAT be nice!
❤😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for remembering that there are non-right-handed folks in the world! You have warmed my heart! Now scurrying over to watch the other video....
Pretty sure I've watched every Musselburgh cast on video, but yours is the only one that works for me. Thank you!
I'm a crocheter and this is one of the only knitting tutorials I'll ever understand 😂❤
I have to watch this every time I start a beanie. Lol
Thank you Natalie! ❤❤❤❤
Perfect. So much easier than fiddly DPN’s. Thank you.
OMG, you are amazing! Thank you so much again, for helping me through this Musselburgh hat cast on. After 6-7 tries, I found your video, and I am on my way!! YAY to you. This is so much easier than the other videos. Thank you so much! I think I can do it now.
Thank you SO much for this video! Your directions were clear and easy to follow and my first Musselburgh has been successfully cast on.
You are so welcome! Great job!!
What a fantastic way to start a hat, so easy. Thank you for all your sleepless nights while you were trying to figure it out.
Of all the videos I've watched about how to do this cast on, yours is the very best! Thanks for showing me how to do this :)
Thank you for this tutorial! It is very clear and makes the start of the Musselburgh Hat beginning so much easier. 😊
This was suuuuuuper helpful! Thank you! Making my first Musselburgh now!
Omg I was literally searching for a tutorial on the pattern cast on to find your 16 minutes ago uploaded video. 😂😂😂 it was a sign for sure!! ❤❤❤
Whoa!!! Perfect timing!!
a magic circle is an open knot. bless you for this, I finally understand
Thanks SO much! I’m a hybrid- crochet/knitter and this makes this step simpler👍🏻
At last! I have struggled with this cast on for.ev.er and yours is the best tutorial I have seen. After following along, this is the first time I finally got it. Thanks so much. P.S. As the mom to a lefty, it's pretty cool that you did a whole video just for them.
You are a terrific teacher. Very clear, well paced. TY❤
Thank you so much for the right AND left hand videos. I crochet left handed but am an English style knitter. I cant wait to make my first Musslerburgh hat!!!
How easy it is when you find the right video! Thank you so much for the clear instructions!

You are an excellent teacher I hope you do more tutorials. I’m left handed and so grateful you showed it both ways 💕
A really helpful tutorial. Thank you! Forwarded it to my nephew who is attempting the Musselburgh for the first time. Best wishes!
Thanks Natalie. Going to finally cast one on soon. Ya know, after all the holiday knitting.
I know I am late to the game but this cast on method helped me knit this hat, finally!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've been waiting to start my first Musselburgh because I knew you promised this tutorial!!! so excited!
Yay!!! Enjoy!

Hahaha you got this!
Same!!!
OMG same! I bought the pattern ages ago and have been too scared to cast on 😂
Natalie!!! I love you for this! Ive had the yarn and pattern in a project bag for ages just puzzled on how to start. Youre the best!
Ditto
I live in Musselburgh and have never heard of this hat. Every day's a school day!
I’m so curious-Since you live there, is it pronounced Mussel-burrow or Mussel-burr or Mussel-burg?
@@Nicelady29Neither. It's pronounced Mussel-burrah.
How timely! I’ve been procrastinating casting on another Musselburgh. Thank you so much!😊
This was a very clear video. I actually struggled so much with the crochet cast-on I gave up, until I found a video that did almost the same thing but using knitting needles throughout. But your version is so detailed, I may well try this again.

Omg thank God! I’m casting on today and I was freaking out because I couldn’t figure out the gauge chart!
Love this episode! Will Kent be sharing some of his northern lights photos with us? We saw them in S.Indiana! But no good photos.
Thank you so much! I had started the hat with a provisional cast on from the bottom up but felt like I was cheating! I really wanted to do it crown down and your video was fantastic!!
