      @Eli Woods Possibly, but it might be smarter to not want the spotlight and let Gotti get all the attention, while they continued to make bank. Eventually Gotti was caught on tape by the FBI, but not Sammy (in the end, he is among the last ones standing).

    • @ninjanizzle
      @ninjanizzle 3 года назад +4

      @Eli Woods They planned in advance to kill Gotti too if he didn't work the way they wanted. Plus they probably preferred not having all that heat on them. On top of that it was a death sentence as they killed the boss of bosses without permission, someone was going to retaliate sooner or later.

      @@ninjanizzle I heard that in killing Paul Castellano they had to get permission from the Commission cos you can't just kill a Boss without the say so from the bosses of the other 4 Families, Gotti n Co they could have been murdered for even thinking it never mind asking, they thought Paul was keeping a lot of business scams secret when it's supposed to be shared with the other Families?

    • @ninjanizzle
      @ninjanizzle 3 года назад +2

      @@68majortom That's correct they had to get permission, BUT THEY DIDN'T. None of the other bosses signed off on it, which is why the Genovese and Lucchese families started killing Gambino men. Part of their beef was they felt was giving too much of their scams to the other families. The real reason was because Gottis crew was selling drugs, so Paul could've had him whacked, but I recall hearing he was going to demote him and break up his crew. Also Paul wanted Ruggiero to turn over the wiretap tapes he had after getting caught talking about drug deals and Paul too! Once his uncle Dellacroce died there was nobody high ranking enough to stall Paul anymore on that. If they got permission there would've been no need for any retaliation hits.

The production value, the tone, the pace, the infliction of direct quotes, all of it- makes this podcast the greatest done to date. Franzese's stories are good but he doesn't slowly go in depth too much, but rather glosses over a lot of stuff with general "sum up" statements. He also is protecting his newly-spun reputation and doesn't lay all his cards on the table when talking about himself. It's as if he wants to tell us things without telling us too much. I'll bet his stories would draw more followers if he told them after drinking half a bottle of JD and is sufficiently loosened up.

Frankie seemed to have a great foresight in regards to John’s character and I’m curious why he would still allow it. The Bosses on the commission were just arrested and facing trial (including Castellano) in one of history's biggest RICO cases. Whoever took over for Castellano was going to be a huge target for law enforcement. Not to mention facing the wrath of unsanctioned hit on a boss from the rest of the Commission. DeCicco was very smart in helping to course-correct the family and bide his time. Had Chin Gigante's car bomb retaliation hit its intended target (Gotti); ironically DeCicco would've been boss.

Law enforcement had those guys wired up all over the place. The Golden Rule but you don't kill the boss was broken all throughout the history of the New York mob going back to maranzano and Joe the Boss. Pauly was distracted chasing his maid around the White and he let those guys get out of control. Not to mention all the Psychopaths Thor running around New York City at the time

    I believe in life there are pivotal moments that can decide the future of ones life/organizations. In this case if they killed Gotti & Ruggerio the downfall of Cosa Nostra may have been prevented (at least for a time). Money still flows, Sammy never testifies, and dozens of people don't get locked up. Not killing John went against everything Cosa Nostra supposedly stood for. Its real hypocritical to kill the boss of the family to return the 'Cosa Nostra values' when the person plotting the takeover broke every rule in the book.

      @@benoneill4318 I don’t think the director/producer is shit, I think they have a certain vision and I enjoy what they put out. Just would like a bit more relevant photos. We’ve all seen Paul dead in the street, maybe some photos that aren’t as well known? Stuff like that.

    Nice to finally hear it from the horses mouth. I've heard this story 100 times but hearing sammy tell it really exposes exactly what it was. I wonder if sammy ever regrets this hit as Gotti would have been killed and the story would be very different.

      Does he really, though? I've been following him closely and he is referring to the same few hits despite being part of 19 hits (at least). This hit against Paul he has talked about over and over again.
