      Jernau Morat Gurgeh that’s just how it goes, you know? This is true with everything. As I have heard said. Hard work does NOT ensure success. But hard work, perseverance, forward thinking, and just the right amount of ambition can make it much more likely!
      But even then it’s never a sure thing. It’s a little disheartening sometimes, but that’s just how it goes.

    • @Danirio96
      @Danirio96 5 лет назад +32

      @@PaulMab9 in today's blockbuster system, everybody works hard except the writers and star movie actors. Then we get almost technically perfect exercises bud overall quality films. I don't know if this is the same for anyone else, but after watching these videos (Adam going through Auction items and his armour, especially the series where he crafted the Excalibur armour) I've gained such a huge respect for the hard work that the costuming and prop department go through to make these films. Even films I didn't enjoy, I always take and second and just appreciate the world building and just sheer volume of hard work these people put into their craft to make these world's feel real whilst making the actors and extras as comfortable as possible.

    Oh wow, I'm actually in the middle of building a Ming dynasty armour. A non-prop one, made of metal.
    The "triangular maille" is called mountain pattern scale, named so because the scales look like the Chinese character for mountain: 山. They slide under and over eachother, leaving only the three pointed star figure exposed, which this prop is emulating. The reason it's only emulated is because those scales are a pain to fabricate. You can trust me on this one.
    Great to see this here, Adam. I'll go check out that film and its props. Cheers!

      Just FYI there is no evidence backing up the name of this thing. The original source does not describe how the mountain pattern armor look and the triangular shaped stuff is called "suozi" in another original source and it is more of a design pattern than actual armor.

    • @RedmarKerkhof
      @RedmarKerkhof 4 года назад

      @@caesarzhiyuzhang5805 That is good to know. The more I work on this armour, the more I suspect they didn't actually use 山 shaped scales. It just makes no sense. Your comment seems to reaffirm that suspicion.
      I knew there was no archeologolical evidence for the stuff existing but it's interesting to learn that even the name is distputed. Though I suppose it's not surprising.
      Could you tell me how to write "suozi" in Chinese characters? It might help me in my research. Thanks.

    I was one of the lucky few that won one of the tiger corps armor and it arrived in the mail a day or two ago. Sadly, I received a suit that must have been worn by a stuntman. A few of the "scales" are broken and impossible to fix since some of the pieces are gone. The symbol on the belt is hanging on by a single thread and the leather/fabric adhesive is coming lose in several spots. I started saving my pennies the second I heard about the auction and won but now am torn if i should try to make repairs or leave it as is... or maybe save up my pennies for another auction.

    • @Thanos88888
      @Thanos88888 5 лет назад

      I won a deer corps set. Some of the scales are broken as well, but it's not really noticeable. I'm thinking of removing a couple to make molds so that I can cast some replacements in resin. The paint job will be incredibly difficult to replicate though. I'm also not exactly the same size as a Chinese extra, so I had to add some extra leather-work in order to make it fit. My shield didn't come with a handle, but rather two arm straps. I'm thinking of making a new handle for it so that I can hold it easier.
      I made a face mask (mempo) to wear with it and added a paracord belt to hang a sword off. I can't wait to show this suit off in a few days for Halloween!

    I enjoyed the movie when I watched it in Shenzhen (in Mandarin). It didn’t do well but that doesn’t mean some of us can’t like it.😀Fantastic costumes.

    That is gorgeous, just stunning. Also love to see how they have solved things like the hand wraps, practical and good looking. Fake it until you make it.
    Then again I would be surprised if it was not top of the line, coming from weta :)

    I haven't watched a tested video for a long time. But I just knew, if it was a box from prop store, Adam was going to say how much he loved the huge plastic bags

    Adam! When will you do a pop up exposition on your costume collection? Someday you should have a museum/tax shelter for them all!

    Hi Adam. Like the suit. Got me thinking of Tim Burtons Batman and Bruce Waynes hall of armor . Those were some amazing looking creations. Might you be able to find any information about them?
