The Autel Evo 2 Pro is a top-spec 6K 20 Megapixel 1 inch sensor drone with one of the longest flight times and battery life of any consumer drone. It produces incredible ultra high definition 6k video and probably has the best obstacle avoidance system with true all direction sensors. Truly a top-spec drone for professional and commercial use producing cinematic video and excellent pictires. I unbox, setup and take it through a first flight. An annoying obstacle avoidance error crops up but all in all, it's still a truly impressive model.

A top spec semi-professional drone that isn't made by DJI.... What do you think?
Ian
Good to have someone in the market to give DJI a run for their money - otherwise, us the consumers lose.
Insurance needed lol. I would not want that falling out sky. I think you need to speak with the previous reviewer's and ask exactly what did they like about it.
The stopping while in flight would drive me crazy.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Yeah, I believe it's fixed with the latest firmware which I'm uploading today. How's that MA2S Moab Rescue Vid coming along? ;)
@@IaninLondon been busy at work, but I’m going to start pumping them out soon. The gimbal is broken on the rescued unit so I’m trying to figure that out too.
Well done Ian. I like the way you let viewers take part in your astonishment.
I try and keep it real-world! :)
I've been watching your videos for years. I like your garden and tests the range of the transmitter on the drone. This Evo2 model is really top notch. The camera creates sharp shots, the battery lasts a long flight and overall it's a really good drone.
Cheers for that! Was testing it in the wind yesterday.... Will get that up in the next couple days....👍🏻
Thank you for reviewing this product on your Channel the video at the end of this looked great can't wait to see more from this drone
Cheers for that! And VLOS is easy with this huge orange beast...... :)
Brilliant review mate..I have the air 2 and love it.
I came across one of these the other day. It was being flown by a member of the search and rescue team here in kent. They were out testing it after an update, and as I had never seen one, I took the opportunity to see what it was like.
It certainly is a cracking bit of kit, and I can see why it would work well in the search and rescue service. Very robust and easy to keep in vlos seems to be a huge benefit, and the camera with its zoom capabilities is perfect for their work. The one I saw held its position in a hover on par with the dji products that we are use to, and the rth was accurate.
I like it, and I like the fact that it can hold it's own in a world dominated by DJI.... as for hobbyists....I dont think its aimed our way, but I will certainly be giving it some careful consideration! 👍
Ian, I've watched your videos for a year or 2 now. Glad to see you get an EVO 2. I love mine and it's basically all I fly now. The long battery life and the NO geofencing are big selling points to me. The camera does great and is on par or better than most of the other offerings out there. I know multiple people who have gotten then to get away from DJI for one reason or another. There is a smart controller with a 2000 nit screen on the horizon as well, which for commercial work, and law/fire rescue will be a big selling item. The collision avoidance though annoying has saved my bacon before on a job, so it works well.
I'm looking forward to the new big-screen smart controller..... :)
Ian, so pleased you have done this vid. I really like the Evo II and have been debating whether or not to get one....I am getting one, for me there are so many plus points and of course they will be releasing the new smart controller soon, which will absolutely make my mind up. Thanks for the vid, we need more on Autel in the UK.
The new smart controller looks amazing.....😀
Thanks for a great video Ian. I really need to see your next one (good flying weather today!) for confirmation that the OA bug is fixed but I am still very impressed with my early Evo so hoping for perfection at this price!
Love the colour and size - no squinting like with the Mini 2 when it's zooming off into a bright sky! Just need a C rating to go with the 10 bit colour and variable aperture (not a fan on wrestling with the gimbal to change ND filters). Thanks for uploading!
That's an awesome place for flying drones. Really beautiful landscape there. I just love that drone. I was going to purchase it, but the cost is just a bit much for me. So, I settle for the MA2. It's just as good, but not quite. Thanks for the video, it was awesome. 👍👍👍
Great Vid as always Ian! 👍
Cool looking video and nice information, keep up the filming and flying its looking good. Thank you for sharing and have a good day
Cheers for that 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome Cinematic Footage,You have my Like
Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
Looking forward to more videos with that drone 😀
Great Video Ian!! Very Interesting!! Thank you.
Looks a beast, great looking camera functions. I guess when you get the hang of it you will enjoy it, I don't think it's for everyone but I'm sure it has its place in the drone market and always good to have competition. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. 👍👍
Thanks Karen. Yes, this is top-end large model that is not for everyone, but produces some stunning results.... More Mini 2 vids on way, I promise ;)
@@IaninLondon thank you 👍
Just to say you do some great videos. This beast looks really cool but yes a bit pricey so off to put my mini 2 though its paces. keep up the good work.
Drone looks just nice
Good and useful video - thanks.
Point the antennae down indeed! At least, that's what I've been told. I'll take Ted's quietness as his sign of approval! Evo II is on my list for someday.
Nice video. I am looking forward to Autel’s new mini they are supposed to come out with in the next few months. I think I would really like the smart controller as well! Take care, Tom
New Sub! Great review. TY.
Good first look video Ian
Thanks Lyn 👍🏻
lovely footage i always take my dji drone out to beaches, mountains, valleys and snow alps.in case im a drone expert explorer. love the footage at 10:11
Very interesting kit.
no more fly zone problems, mine turns up tomorrow got a 6 week old used one from ebay for 1100, fly more kit plus filter pack and tablet holder looking forward to it...great drones
perfect Job....
Footage looks cool and flight is so smooth.Definetely something is happening with obstacle avoidance sensors..
Good evening sir. Orange 🍊 is cool..
It's the low sun angle triggering the OA. Used to happen on the older DJI drones such as the Mavic Pro. Also occasionally happens on my Volkswagen Golf too!
I say occasionally because sun is quite rare here ☀️😂
The Autel Evo 2 6k is the best drone I've had - better than anything Dji has produced 👍
Based on what exactly?
I'm here watching your video and leaving that like and subscribing to your channel, your images are great
Well thank you kindly 😀
Looks a good drone Ian, be interested to find out why obstacle avoidance operates when no need to great video👍
@@lenhartley8904 it may be the direct sunlight there is a thread on the autelpilots.com in relation to a simular issue . I haven't had this issue yet with mine.
Love your vids Ian. The Autel is a serious piece of kit and with 6k video wow ! When will this technology end
It's crazy that the 8K version of this actually has a smaller sensor, but it's keeping DJI on their toes.... :)
Best unboxing ever 👍
Short & to the point :)
Love the look of this and what a wonderful part of the world to fly. How would this drone fit with the caa regulations? I can only dream but one day maybe I'll get something that professional
Hi Ian,
Great video as always , I have a similar problem with obstacle avoidance on my mavic 2 pro if I fly to fast it kicks in and stops the drone , very annoying, back to the evo though I thought the still pictures looked great but the video quality didn’t look so good especially compared to the M2P but maybe the finished video from the sd card is better but from watching this video I thought the quality and colour looked poor and not as sharp as the M2P. Will watch with interest your further flights with it .
I have been flying the Evo 2 Pro since July last year. Excellent airframe and the precision landing beats DJI by a long way. The camera is excellent. What lets the Evo 2 down badly is Explorer and the lack of third party apps like Litchi. Obviously as you are finding out it needs a little fine tuning to get it to fly smoothly. The batteries take forever to charge. Using the hub, the time to charge 4 batteries is 5-6 hours. If you fly pre-programmed missions, prepare to be disappointed in comparison for example with Litchi and the Mavic 2 and Inspire 2. Have fun.
Thanks John; good stuff to know. Cheers
I received the Evo 2 pro yesterday and took it out for a few short flights today. At first I didn't care for the way the quad responded to the sticks, it was hard to do a proper circle using forward, roll and yaw at the same time. Later I found the expo and sensitivity setting in the app. For those not familiar with rc transmitters, expo puts curves on the x and y stick axis so it responds less when you first move the stick and an exaggerated response with increased stick movement. Negative expo does the opposite but I don't think that is an option in the app. A flat curve give you a more linear feel, the same amount of increase throughout the stick movement. I set it up so roll, pitch and yaw are all flat curves and flies more like a DJI. I have to play with it some more to get it dialed in. The video quality was fantastic but I wasn't paying attention to what I was filming today so I filmed a lot of grass, asphalt and a sewage treatment plant.
Good points 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looks cool. With my P4PV2 the obstacle avoidance can be triggered by sunlight. Perhaps this has the same issue especially when the sun is low in the sky.
Great vid Ian, think I will reserve judgment until you have had it longer and flown more with it given its apparent foibles!
Install firmware 2.6.22. You can set exp settings to adjust the sticks. Click the icon in bottom right for additional camera options. The stopping is the firmware so just update it. You can click the OA icon in top right to turn the OA on and off
Cheers for the advice there; will do that today. Thanks.
It’s a great drone. Just different from a DJI. Once you figure it out though, you’ll love it.
I am impressed to see you doing a Preview of the Autel EVO II, as you know I have the Autel EVO 1 for over 3 years now and have had issues with their batteries, I would like to offer you to have a fly about with me here in Buckinghamshire, as I have the EVO 1 I don't think I would gain anything by having the EVOII great Video, and yes them buttons do get in the way, thank you IAN, Regards TJK UK.
Thanks Thomas. Trying out non DJI drones to see how they fly and compare.... apparently updating firmware and calibrating the sensors will fix my issues! 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon Yes updates are great and yes they sometimes sort out issues but sometimes they cause more issues than they solve, well that's my opinion, regards TJK UK.
I recon in a very short while this will end up on the shelf next to the DJI FPV gathering dust :)
It's nice to know there is high-quality competition to DJI. It is a bit pricey though. It's not much better than the Air 2S fly more combo, for considerably more money.
Get the freewill nd filters or similar big difference, love my pro 2
Hello and thank you to share your video with us, very nice review. I have a question, I was flying today and have the same problem with the obstacles avoidance that was warning but nothing was close by. Did you figure out what was it ? Thank you in advance!
Low sun apparently!
Just want to say DJI’s colors for me are not boring. I LOVE the stealth grey colors they’ve used over the years both the darker shade on the Mavic Pro and the lighter shades of the new drones. I prefer the darker out of the two.
All a bit tongue in cheek matey! :) I just got used to the Orange very quickly...... ;)
Love that drone.. Their batteries remind me of the Yuneec Q500 Typhoon batteries...
And the 3 Pro...... (you heard it first..... Wait and see...😉,)
@@IaninLondon
Ha ha Bring it Brutha!! Hello from Windsor Ontario Canada 🍁🇨🇦👋😊👍
Right across from Detroit Michigan...
Hi Ian, I bought one a few weeks ago and I love it , changed my exp .020 for everything and yaw to 50% is so smooth to fly . What firmware version are you running ?
In fairness it hadn't prompted me to update the firmware so I hadn't for this flight.... And found the full exp adjustments after filming this part 👍🏻👍🏻
What's yaw...n exp?
Any chance of a comparison video with Autel Evo 2 pro vs Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic Air 2S, after you've had a chance to fully get to grips with the Autel?
Mine flew well for several months and then suddenly started detecting invisible obstacles even at 120m up on a clear day. It would fly forward for a few seconds and then stop abruptly with the onscreen radar showing obstacle detection ahead. Calibrating the sensors sorted that out and it flies normally again.
Thanks for the heads up 👍🏻👍🏻
Did you remove all the tape from the sensors? Not suggesting they come with tape installed, but it would seems that the sensors are either dirty, faulty, or obstructed. Im still rocking the original Mavic Pro and couldn't be happier. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade and I just haven't found it yet, for my purposes anyway. Good video man, keep em coming 💪😎🇺🇲
Hi Ian. Interesting review. Ludicrous mode reminds me of the Tesla car with its insane mode. At 14m03s I was really surprised to see you flying with obstacle avoidance off, telemetry showing negative 5m altitude and what looked to me to be a perilously close shave of the tree tops. You were flying with confidence but it looked risky to me. Is that experience or luck? Say hi to Stu.
This was using the screen to see where I was flying, so this was defo experience on flying so close to tree tops.... :) Close fly-byes are always good video.... ;)
I like it, something about it just draws me to it so I ordered one. Looks like it's time for the family to go on a diet (a lot of potatoes this summer), I used the food allocations to pay for it.
So you have fun and they get healthy. Win win 😎😎🤠
I had the same issue with my Mavic Air 2 obstacle avoidance when flying in a field / woodland area and put it down to all the bugs that were flying around me.
I have the DJI mini 2 and the Mavic air 2, would the Autel lite plus feel like an upgrade?
Cheers to a fellow giant pumpkin owner! 😂 I love mine and waiting for this smart controller to ship stoked yo try it! 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I've got my eye on that smart controller.....
@@IaninLondon yeah I think unfortunately it will help a lot with the flying experience with Autel. That remote is just odd feeling a bit to me and have had connectivity issues between it and my iPhone 12 Pro Max so there’s that too. Autel is aware of issues apparently and this will at least eliminate that part. Pricey though!
Did you leave a sticker on ian👍👍nice review
I am finding stickers months after flying........ because I unbox on camera, I miss things :)
How do you charge the batteries so quickly? Ah... time lapse.
Great review 👍
Great film. Could the OA sensors have been detecting flying insects? I know it sounds unlikely but you never know...
Consensus seems to be the sun..... But also lack of the latest firmware....👍🏻
Love my E2P. Only issue is OA Calibration Tool won't work on my Macs, and it keeps giving on-screen warnings while flying.
Had same issue with obstacle avoidance, Only happens when in bright sun shine. So feel in is sun blinding the obstacle avoidance cameras. In ludicrous mode i just leave off
Interesting to know.... Cheers
Here is one from the orange brigade, very interesting....
That looks really good but for the OA, and I like the visibility and build. Sun interfering?
Expensive though.
Yes, apparently sun can cause issues.... Updating firmware should fix
Could be the low sun triggering the OA sensors? My old Mavic Pro used to stop mid-flight when facing towards the sun. Had to keep turning them off.
Yes, few people mentioned that, although was also happening flying away from the sun, but hopefully the firmware upgrade I have now applied will fix this....
Could it be that the obstacle avoidance is somehow detecting the propellers? Just a thought...
Love the colour!
Nice to see a drone that’s not DJI.
Also not sure about those buttons on the back.... Would take a while to get use to...
Wal be interesting to see more flights with it
Yep, consensus is sun reflecting on props....
need to wait for C2 even though I am desperate to buy a drone with a bigger sensor
When is the "I play with drones" merch coming out?
Good call.....🤔😀
How much does Evo cost compare to the DJI equivalent? Do you think it worth the difference? I should watch to the end of your video be asking the price 😆.
You win the lottery??? lol my dream drone but to be fair have heard some similar complaints about the obstacle avoidance.
Trying out different brands and models....😀👍🏻👍🏻
@@IaninLondon its just jealousy ignore it ha ha
do you think it’s worth the money? i have the Air 2S. Obviously i am waiting for the mavic pro 3. I think Dji has the best UI of all drones and easy to use.
I just picked one up a month ago and it is a great drone. You are absolutely dead on about the ui. It’s different, not horrible but not as good as dji. Now the drone hardware is hard to beat. Its built great and the photos are great also.
I think the obstacle avoidance was triggered by the cellophane rip-off strip that was still on the front.
Just wondering if you had the choice, would you go for this or Mavic Air 2S
Mavic Air 2 S defo..... I've done a Which Drone review....
@@IaninLondon Thanks Ian for the reply. I’m just waiting to see what the mini 3 is like before making my next purchase. I’ve sold my original mini already.
great vid ian,,,,thanks for sharing
Great looking drone, bit out of my price range unfortunately! Was the mobile phone you're using a LG Velvet?
Yes, well spotted; it's the LG Velvet.
@@IaninLondon bit of a phone geek I'm afraid 😂 shame LG are not producing phones anymore, they made some great devices in the past.
@@Avgeek1564 I know. I'm not a Samsung fan and loved the LGs over the years. Holding out for the Sony Exp iii now...... :)
Hello Ian, any news regarding the speed against wind? I'm deciding to buy autel Evo 2 pro Vs air 2s...it's the same price at the moment so I'm collecting info from the experts..
Thanks in advance for you feedback
I would absolutely go for the Air 2 S combo. Same price, much newer model, same sensor, smaller lighter body, and better in wind....👍🏻
@@IaninLondon thanks a lot for you fast feedback
Hi Ian, the trigger to the behavior of the obstacle avoidance in that drone it's the sun
HI Gabriel. That's good to know, but still annoying as it happened both flying into and away from the sun....
You know i was wondering recently why you hadn't reviewed the Evo 2 Pro....
My first drone was an Autel X Star Premium and it was a good drone, ive owned a couple of DJI drones and now have the Mavic Air 2, Evo 2 Pro and love this drone.
It's a beast! :)
Great vid as always, would love to get one but until Drones start appear with a 'C' rating i am not going to buy another drone.
Yep; fully get that.......
Hmmm.. interesting. Perhaps the object detected for avoidance is THE SUN? You've raved about the hardware build quality, but from what I can see the app is showing cropped off dialog boxes, which smacks of rushed software app programming attention to detail. Just makes you think what else has been compromised to rush out the software? Just doesn't re-assure, when they've only got THEIR screen hardware to program for!
72KPH? don't think you got near that... 52 perhaps.
Anyway we'll look forward to how you get on with it once it's been tweaked for max performance.
Perhaps I've become a DJI snob?!! but seems like someone aims to copy DJI even with the start up sound being very familiar!! 😊
Yes, general consensus is the low sun; apparently a firmware update has fixed this so I'll be testing that. I got up to 70 kmh a few times, but the OA was stopping this. And will be looking at the app display on the phone as I too wasn't that impressed with the text cropping.... But ultimately, this is just a review, not a sales pitch! :)
For that crazy price and software issues (not to mention the UI seems badly laid out on your phone), I'd rather stick to DJI.
Hi Ian, Check We Talk UAV last live video, he’s found that the camera on the Evo 2 is only 5.4K in fact the Airs 2 S camera is slightly better, regards Steve
The MA2s is good but it doesn't have any side sensors, no adjustable aperture, less flight time, no interchangable camera payload, no colour screen (FPV) in standard controller to name a few features.
I think you will be happier with the picture quality if you try to keep the EV at -.3 to -.7. An ND filter isn't necessary but if you want to stay within or close to normal camera settings I find an ND4 filter can be helpful. I don't even worry about the 180 rule. I just look for the best picture using the aperture, iso, and shutter speed settings. I think you will enjoy the footage from night flights if you can do that there.
Cheers Bob..... You find that negative EV works well?
@@IaninLondon On this camera drone I do but your tastes may differ.
Lova ya Iaaaan! Cheers from Romania!
Where did u buy it from?
Just purchased a mavic 3 thinking the new sensor would blow this away, really disappointed with the M3 what is your experience with it so far?
I'll be uploading another video on this on Friday. To be blunt, it's very half baked....
@@IaninLondon looking forward to it, hopefully the future updates will ease the wallet cost as for now kinda pssd with the purchase
nice but too expensive , so are the battery prices , thought DJI were price gouging on battery prices lol
Is that a max distance I saw of 500m can you set it greater
Yes, like DJI drones, you can choose greater distance. I was able to keep VLOS on this at over 500m as it's fairly big...
I'd think the sun is messing with the obstacle avoidance is stopping the drone. Tilt gimbal down . Fly away from the sun or turn off sensors
Yep, that's the consensus....
The max bitrate is 120Mbps whereas the new DJI Air 2S is 150Mbps -- you can bet the as yet unreleased new Mavic Pro will be 150Mbps and at least 5.4K and more likely 6K. The obstacle avoidance issue would be a problem for me.
Yep; as I say, technology moves on; Autel will need to keep up! :)
Maybe some flea stop. Eco drone 😉
I find that the Autel Evo II Pro takes sharp pictures of tree branches, leaves, and soil.
@12:21 invisible UFO following you......
