      All while leaving the working classes destitute in the closure of the mines and the forcing parents to pay for their child's milk if they do so choose to have it.
      That women may have won a war but she left her own people in a worse state we were before she came into power.

      Thanks, dude. Did that a long time ago, dude. Studied her policies extensively, dude. Tough, smart, freedom-loving leader, dude. To conclude otherwise is to ignore an avalanche of facts and data, dude. Perhaps you loathe her because you are one who needs government help to survive every day and loves the thought of cradle to grave running of your life by the government, dude. Perhaps a socialist hammock - instead of a safety net - is what you see as "fair" for Britiain's populace. Thatcher would most certainly not be the kind of leader you would gravitate to, dude. I understand. Dude. Not enough handout's to keep your kind of citizen fat, happy, and content, dude. So sorry, dude, but she was the best, and together with Reagan they defeated communism and totalitarianism without a shot being fired, dude. But, I suppose that's only good news if you don't think communism and totalitarianism are good things, dude.

    Absolutely a fabulous speech that should be required viewing by high school students. She articulates a philosophy that has been maligned by those who are confused and those earn a living by suggesting that the complexities of social and economic problems can be easily solved by simply taxing the rich. As Lady Thatcher once said, "sooner or later you will run out of other people's money." Her wisdom resonates today as strongly as it did when she was in office. All of us are indebted to her for her leadership.

      Reading the massive amount of disinformation about Thatcher on RUclips, I realize that people who were born after 1990 don't even know that she was ousted because she pushed a tax that was so unfair that it provoked massive unrest in Great Britain. Look up "poll tax" or "Community Charge".
      There is a reason why she was and still is hated by those who have lived under her rule, especially in Scotland, Wales, Ireland and northern England, i.e in the less wealthy areas of the UK, that she methodically destroyed. Also she was a racist, bigot, scornful, homophobic, mysogynistic, heartless person.

    We have gone backwards since she left. The Labour government knocked down my home which I had saved for in cash by living in a car three years. They knocked it down and gave me a shared equity home which will be all there's by the time I die. Lay our also took us into a stupid war which Noone in the UK wanted. I went from being a free speaking artist to a worker for a council with fat cat backstabbers running the businesses without any care for what went on in the front line. Thatcher stood for freedom. You could live in a cardboard box if you wanted to, or you could become an entrepreneur millionaire. These days you get moved on even if you sleep outside a cathedral under God's name. Thatcher let kids buy shares with pocket money and they had money before they even left school. She's the bees knees.

    Love her or loathe her, it has to be said that she was a giant among pygmies.
    Which brings me to my point. She was very lucky that, for her entire premiership, the opposition was badly led and extremely weak. Foot was a formidable parliamentarian but, by the time he was appointed leader of The Labour Party, he was too old. The world had moved on, and image was deemed to be as, if not more, important than policy. Thatcher understood this, Foot didn't. And as for Kinnock....... he was like a naughty schoolboy quivering with fear in front of the headmistress! If The Labour Party had done what it should have done, and elected Denis Healey as leader when Callaghan resigned, things could have been very different.

    Another fellow Scotsman who recognises greatness.
    Margaret Thatcher was a truly great, strong and determined leader.
    The UK, Europe and indeed the world could do with leaders like Margaret Thatcher now in these troubled times. She had the determination and resolution to see her policies through - policies that were always in Great Britain's interests.
    Margaret Thatcher also had some other qualities lacking in many of today's leaders - foresight and vision.

    • @SpectatorAlius

      But of course, there is no way she would have been become PM there. And she was not tellling the truth when she said employment got better under her reign. Unemployment was worse for years. That is one of the main reasons you can still see a lot of hatred expressed for her in these comments.

      Alex Romanov That is very naive speculation. If she had lived there then, she would not have even the dubiously admired characteristics the conservatives still praise her for: she would have turned out like Ana Pauker instead:(

    • @DeviatorStress
      @DeviatorStress 10 лет назад +5

      SpectatorAlius During 13 years of Labour under Blair and Brown, Thatcher and her legacy has been re-written. In reality, she was very popular, brought economic prosperity after a disastrous time under Labour where the IMF took over and debt soared. Labour and the left re-wrote history to paint her as hated and evil. You will find that most people throwing hate-comments at her were born after her time in government and grew up under Labour. If she was really that unpopular and evil, she wouldn't have won so many elections.

    • @SpectatorAlius
      @SpectatorAlius 10 лет назад

      DeviatorStress It sounds to me like you are the one doing the rewriting fo hisotry. I remember all too well how people under Thatcher complained bitterly about the very high unemployment under her reign. It took a long tiem for Britain to recover from that -- and that was no thanks to Thatcher.

    As an American, I have a great deal of respect for Margaret Thatcher's accomplishments in office. I find it hard to understand why my British friends do not feel the same way. Something magnificent happened in the late 1980's when leaders like Thatcher, Reagan, and Gorbechev were on the world stage. We went from a world where nuclear conflict between NATO and the Warsaw Pact was a REAL possibility to a peaceful coexistence. People tend to forget this too often.

Just imagine, whatever your opinion if Maggie had gone back to Europe instead of David Cameron and specified (not asked) for reforms. I can't help thinking that the country now would be in a lot better shape under her leadership.

      Thatcher would never have signed the Maastrict treaty and as for the Lisbon treaty I think she may have destroyed several of her infamous black handbags over it.
      Brexit under Thatcher:
      Thatcher: That is the deal the UK are offering.
      EU: Sorry we don't agree with it

    Margaret Thatcher was an extraordinary woman, leader and politician. She transformed Britain from a country going backwards fast to a growing nation on a healthy economic footing. Of course she polarised people, that's what great leaders do - their business is progress not popularity, and such was MT's enormity that she achieved both, you don't become the longest serving PM in 150 years if you're not popular. Thank you Margaret, for your outstanding contribution to this country and the world.
