@mikes51501 what is an average musician? Because statistically 90% of players give up in their first year and never reach intermediate level.. so technically just being able to jam/improvise simple licks in key and on time makes a person well above average.
This is what I was about to say. An average musician would have never had the chance to play along side Jeff Beck. Johnny obviously won't die being ranked in any top 10 guitarists or vocalists lists, his singing voice is average at best, his guitar playing is definitely above average at times, but not expert/master level. But what Johnny has that musicians, even ABOVE average ones in this day are missing, is Johnny has actual SOUL. He sings sincerely and plays his guitar well to match. That's why I listen to him over most modern musicians.
It's simple, but quite fun. There aren't very many guitarists that play three note, or diatonic, shredding away in rapid note succession, that are actually fun to listen to. Once you get bored with the speed adrenaline, there's not much left musically. I love listening to Tony Iommi, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page.
I saw Johnny Depp playing with Jeff Beck. I felt thatJjohnny was just a poser, with his way-out costume, and his Telecaster hanging down to his knees. I would guess that even Beck's guitar tech could play circles around Depp, and suggested on "The Gear Page" guitar forum, that Johnny must have financed the Beck tour, or perhaps bought him a new tour bus, to get in with the band. Jeff Beck and Alice Cooper didn't/don't suffer fools lightly, and both would be serious about who they play with, so maybe I'm wrong.? (PS. I got banned from the guitar forum for my comment...)

Playing an instrument is more than just showing off your skills and playing difficult songs. What Johnny's doing isn't him trying to show the world that he can play the guitar. He's just having fun jamming with his friends. Just the way he plays the guitar shows that he has a lot of experience and he is one with his instrument. He feels the music he plays. He puts his soul into the music he's playing. Most musicians can't do that. Sure there are plenty of musicians with high skills but plays like a freaking wood with zero emotions. Sadly I'm one of those musicians. Sure I'm pretty good at playing my guitar and just like you I can easily play what Johnny is playing here but I cannot express the same emotions he's showing while playing this song. You weren't able to capture the soul of this song either even though your notes were all accurate. I know musicians like Johnny. In fact one of my mentor that taught me how to play the guitar plays exactly like Johnny. He has incredible skills but doesn't go around showing it. He might teach you to play like your favorite shredder but he prefers songs that bring emotions. So yes, Johnny is an incredibly talented musician and knows how to play the guitar VERY well. There shouldn't be any doubt about it.

I just want to know why people always say Johnny Depp is an "AVERAGE" 🎸guitar player or he just plays "BASIC" chords. Johnny is self taught and has been playing guitar since he was 12 years old and has been in quite a few bands. Being that he is now about to turn "60" years old that means he has been playing guitar for literally "48" years. Poseur.
Theirs playing and playing , amongst players he’s not good , from what I see here .
His guitar playing is mediocre at best. The way he carries on with his "Rock Star" persona, playing expensive guitars and being in a band with famous musicians you would think his playing would be above average, but it's not. I'm sure he has time to practice and hire a good teacher right?
No, he can not play... he has zero intonation, no chops, no tone or skill. But... he does have acting credibility for which he is allowed to join bands because he brings in the chicks... that's all... I've heard 10 year Olds at guitar center who play better. Actors always want to be musicians.. but great musicians don't want to be actors...fact !!!! He's a poser!!! When he can stand on stage and trade competitive licks with Joe satriani, then I'll be a believer..
He is not a great guitar player. End of.
just be honest Depp is an embarrassment on guitar he should stick to acting
Not really you don't have to be that technically talented, he's solid.
What is the use of this kind of video's? Judging......smh
He sounds better than you do! Plus he even wrote the freaking song!!
JD ...Stick to acting... End of story.
Johnny’s playing is better than yours don’t diss him!
😂🧙♀️
You are far too kind. But i think you know that inside. His live performances are garbage.
Just an average player tbh. Nothing he is playing is blowing me away
No offense dude, but Johnny sounded better than you.
@@SteveBrownleesMusicPortal 😂
Yea JD is no good at playing guitar.... after all these years and for somebody playing with Jeff Beck, he is surprisingly mediocre
At 58 he still plays at a basic level. He is a total poser
Its good enough for a punk band !
Does it really matter he's enjoying himself and he's not bad by any means
@@gvibes69 sure, but not much more than that
That's where my mind goes to. Who knows. I'm sure with all the rigorous acting schedules, he wasn't really able to pick up the guitar as much as he'd like to..but still. Like..either you fot it or you don't..seems like he just does it for fun and he's not that interested in being any better than the skill level he's at. Otherwise, yeah. He'd be alot better at 58 than that. That sounded like me when I was in my early 20s I'm 42, and I can play circles around him. He missed alpt of key phrasings in that mode that he's playing in that sclae that he could've utilized even simply. You heard this classic rock tease us with them playing phrases like I would've played. It's not super complex, but not as simple as what Depp was doing.
@@davidpatteson3848 I agree with you . As a musician you know that skill needs time and practice to develop.
Dude you are no better than depp haha
😂
"sort of simple" "not very creative" says the guy who has 76 views and 3 comments. He's played with Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson, what have you done?
Just giving my opinion…….I thought he was great, and if you played an instrument you would understand. Great solo tho, I was impressed 😊
@@pjl8119 completely agree, I thought he was great and let’s be honest…….if he wasn’t Depp he wouldn’t be playing with Beck etc, not taking anything away from him at all. The bloke is a powerhouse of an actor and is enjoying playing with some greats so fair play to him 👌
@@thatclassicrockguy9268 he plays with Jeff on tour because he wrote a song called “This is a song for Miss Hedy Lammarr” and Jeff invited him to make an album together.
yawn
