When I took a picture, I got a "storage full", pop up on my IPHONE. I acknowledged the pop up, and noticed shortly after, that my phone screen was completely locked up and would not show what the drone was seeing in real time or any data. It only showed what was on my screen at the moment it locked up and got the pop up message. It was as if I had taken a screen shot of my screen. I did not get a pop up this time, but the screen froze again and could not get it back to current status. This was very frustrating as I had no idea where the drone was currently. I turned off the picture sync to iPhone as I as freed up some storage space. Will see if this works now without the frozen screen.
Kinda mad about the lack of goggle support. I didn't buy the Air 2 because dji said they have no plains to support the goggles. Guess I won't buy the Mini 2 also. Wish I knew why this is considering they work with Mavic 2 pro. I don't see them adding it to the Mini 2 when they haven't added it to the Air 2 yet. Come on dji!!!! Thanks Russ for all the great vids, info and review!!! This is my first stop for drone info!!!
I am considering buying a dji mini 2. I have watched a ton of videos on drones and I was not able to find the answer to one of my concerns. When you use your iphone in the controller, what happens if you receive an incoming phone call or email/text. Does the controller loose connection to the drone. This may be a simple question but never seen it addressed in any material. My phone is quite busy with emails and calls and this is a concern to me. thank you in advance
Thanks for the video. I just dont really like the new style controller compared to the older style. I have to point the controller at the mavic air 2 all the time or I get weak signal because of all the trees we have. never had a problem with the first mavic and had a lot better range.

I have not found a real answer to these questions about the DJI Mini 2 VPS. The manual says it consists of a vision camera and two 3D infrared modules, but doesn't explain exactly how/what the IR modules do. Are they near infrared or thermal infrared cameras? How does the 3D work? Is it by parallax sensing, i.e., the angular displacement of the images between the two sensors? Do we have any public information on this?
Warning if you use mavic mini battery it weights 250 g so that makes it so u have to register it if u fly it outside. U do not have to if u use the correct battery.
Understand, these are "spindle posts" not ''screws". The reason each blade has a new post is wear and bending with the old prop. With the new prop you get a new spindle that fits the hole in the prop evenly. An old, reused spindle might grind out the mount hole in the new prop.

Michael Laframboise Did you notice the new prop screws have a light coating of Loctite. Apparently why you are supposed to use new screws with a prop change? I keep Loctite around since RC helo days so I just touch with a small brush ad good to go. Blade roots sesame to be a different thickness with the longer bolts? Not worth the time. I do use Mavic MINI batteries to download videos rather than extra cycles on the MINI 2 batteries. Especially since my MINI 1 is still at the bottom of the front gate pond!
Why would you not carefully inspect the screw sizes before attempting a prop swap like this? I think you just compromised the integrity of your drones flight performance. Good lesson to learn. Glad it turned out okay for you...at least for now. I’m pretty sure you’ll have issues later, though, due to cross threading instability having now been introduced to your Mini 2.
Thanks for the info re the prop compatability. So can you use the Mini 2 prop screws when you install the Mavic Mini props on the Mini 2? Or Mavic Mini prop screws if you install the Mini 2 props on the Mavic Mini?🤔👍😎

I'm really weird about my batteries if it's my cell phone my flashlightz my drones my RC cars I've always run the batteries very low & then recharge them to 100% never a "short-cycle" I do not fully drain them (very close tho) on the Drone usually 10% is where I stop & I have had very good luck over the years I've had 18650 batteries literally last me from 6-10 years.. & if you store a battery do not leave it fully charged nor empty, around 50-70% 4 storage is perfect. There are 2 most sought-after features that the M2 has none. These are the "follow me" and DJI Goggle support. Unfortunately, DJI will not release updates for M2 to enable these features simply because M2 has no obstacle avoidance sensors. As such, it will be dangerous to operate M2 using those features due to very high chance of collision with obstacles.
I cannot believe this guy swapped the propellers and screws With different threads height and size ridiculousl what do you expect it’s only common sense check specs before you do something this stupid the drone will never be the same people always have to mess with stuff then half the time blame Manufacture if they crash it or break anything after they’ve had it for over a month especially ridiculous how stupid people can be
I know right? Damn idiot. Good thing a couple hundred thousand people learned what not to do. Since you are new here, you should know I make a lot of mistakes. Hopefully people learn from them. Try to tone down the rudeness next time, thanks.
How ungrateful a person you are. :-( We should be thankful that there are vloggers that take the risk to save us, users, for potential problems in using our expensive gadgets. You should appreciate them that they do these on their own expenses, efforts and time.
I activated my mini 2 on Sat 11/21 and saw the refresh offered from DJI and I only got to shoot before work and several low levels around the house doing familiarization with the mini 2. Then I had breakfast and went out to a clearing in the woods and made two more flights. The second one (5 min) was great but I was remembering that the refresh in the app said 48 HOURS.. and I climbed out of bed last night came down and bought 1 year refresh... I'm a 1st time so I will probably need it or do I? how many people really use the refresh?
@@RanchoBurger I used it once back in March when the drone refused to shut down or respond to pushing the on or off button... One note I had an orange dayglo skin on it (to help spot it) and they gave me a new drone and I lost the skin so if you have mods like that, you could loose them... I hope this helps. (also I've only been stuck in a tree once and when going through a tight spot I hit some props and cracked them... But for the most part I'm fairly lucky and don't try to do crazy stuff with it...
@@JeffFoliage good to know. I'll probably be getting a skin pretty quick after I get my M2, to help with visibility and hopefully lower attention from birds

As always, you have posted a very interesting and useful video, Russ. Many thanks. I wonder whether you know, for the QuickShots that have a variable distance option, what is the maximum value that you can set? Thanks.
Without sounding stupid, when you were changing props why didn't you use the same screws that go with each drone instead of changing the propellers w/said screws? If you would have used the same screws then the mounts or the female part would not have been stripped. Use the same screws change the props and you should be fine..Right? Also when changing the batteries it changes the weight.
No, there will be no DJI Goggles (both white and Race edition) support ever! Same as there is no goggle support for Air 2, which is on the market already for some months. If DJI will ever offer goggles support, then that's for a new generation of their goggles, based on code and protocols of the Fly app instead of GO4. The only option might be using 3rd party apps such as Litchi in combination with cardboard type goggles, but these are based on the DJI SDK and the SDK is usually delayed for about 6 additional months until it will support a new drone.
I have a spark and I've heard alot about the mini 2. I want zoom and occusync but is it really worth it? Or is it just about the same thing? The spark is strong probably the strongest drone ever made when fighting winds
Did anyone noticed a thin orange/yellow line at the top left corner? I had noticed in all the 4K footage from the DJi mini 2 even at DJi website they have that sensor problem. I just finished watching a Spanish youtuber channel where they talking about many many people already noticed that issue.
I bought a phantom three pro when they first came out. I put prop guards on then removed them. I mistakenly use the screws for the prop guards after removal and Wrecked all for motors. $250 repair through DJI. They know what they’re doing costing us more.
Does anyone else have this Mini 2 issue...multiple copies of the same image/file are being transferred to the iPhone after a flight. As many as 5 copies today of some images. Some are geotagged, some are not; some are unedited, some appear to be automatically edited (brightened up a bit). JPEG only is set
Weird. I thought mine was saving doubles at first but I realized when you hit export it automatically saves a copy to your iPhone before you choose where to export to…then I was clicking save to iphone and it was saving another copy.
I don’t see any reason why they haven’t already added SmartController compatibility but I disagree that many people will shell out $750 more for their $450 drone. DJI should ditch the dumbed-down DJI Fly app and move back to DJI Go4 app and restore goggle compatibility, but for some reason it seems like they’re not promoting the googles anymore.
"They are NOT the same!" Okay. I'm here to find out why the difference causes a problem... I see an illustration of the two different screws, but there's no clue which one is for the older drone. The longer screw is the Mini 2? Uhg... Will the Mini 2 screw fit through the Mavic Mini propeller? If so, then all you need is a spacer.
you might want to weigh the mini 2 with the original mini battery as one guy weighed the mini2 with stock battery and it only came in at 238 so realistically it might not be over the 249 with the mini 1 battery

I am new to DJI. How is the "best way" take care of the batteries for the DJI Mini 2 AND the battery in the controller 🎮..? Keep fully charged.? What else should I know.?
NEVER LEAVE BATTERIES FULLY CHARGED FOR MORE THAN A FEW DAYS. I learned that the hard way with puffing LiPo batteries. Lithium ion batteries won’t puff, but they will degrade which will give you less usable capacity than when new. You will loose useable flight time. -Keep the batteries fully charged as little as possible. -Store them at 40-60%. -Ensure you use them more than once every 3 months. -Keep full cycles uses (100-
It is a bit of a bummer. There is no real reason either. People say it's because of no sensors but same applies with quick shots so what does it matter
I saw someone comment that the obstacle sensor would have been added if they didn’t have a chip embargo. I’ve seen the rumor pics with sensors. My guess is next year will have. This year mini 2 is around 271g? I forget. It has room for more tech. I will wager with the sensor they will add those features. I’m going to wait for the mini 3

I have been on the fence picking up a smart controller for my Mavic 2 Zoom.... I just received my mini 2 yesterday. Curious if the Mavic 2 zoom RC will work with the mini 2. Then I will get the smart controller for my zoom.
Using the battery from Mini in the Mini2 will work , however with slightly diminished flight time...and the mini battery in the mini2 will bring you over the 250 gram threshold...so will prop guards

I turned off the picture sync to iPhone as I as freed up some storage space. Will see if this works now without the frozen screen.
Let me know
Some very valuable "real world" information for us MM, MA2, and soon to be M2 owners! Great video. Thanks, Russ!
Unfortunately I'm sure one thing that's coming is more drone regulations😕
Absolutely 💯 with the amount of idiots out there they ruin it for everyone else
Should I upgrade from the Mini 1 to the Mini 2, or get the Air 2? (Cost wise happy for all of the above)
Love your content, great stuff ❤️
Thanks for the video. I just dont really like the new style controller compared to the older style. I have to point the controller at the mavic air 2 all the time or I get weak signal because of all the trees we have. never had a problem with the first mavic and had a lot better range.
The cold affects battery life drastically. Pls. do the battery test again in warmer weather!
I agree
He says that at the end
I do agree, but it might be easier and sooner said than done. Highs in the 30s and 40s until next year where I live. So it might take some time for him too, in the meantime there are some other youtubers in warmer climates that might have what you're looking for.
Thank you, my question(s) have been answered. Incidentally as I am sure you already know, flight times will increase with warmer temperatures.
Do you know around what temperature you might see diminishing returns on this? Or what the ideal temps are?
Can the smaller M2P controller pair with Mini 2? That can really help to keep the Mini 2 as good as the Mavic Mini form factor when travelling.
What if i used the MINI 2 screws paired with the MINI 1 props? to address the ill-fitting as you said?
Found an easy way to use the mini 1 props on mini 2 without changing screws. Super simple and mini 1 props fly great and I think they are slightly quieter. Take a small drill bit same size as hole in mini 2 props and hand drill the mini 1 props carefully.don't use a drill, do it by hand and this works beautifully........
U do not have to if u use the correct battery.
thanks
Thanks for this great info.

Especially since my MINI 1 is still at the bottom of the front gate pond!
my question is can we use 2 battery same time for long flight
🤔😐👀🤦🏽♂️🙅🙇🏽♂️🥸🤣

How long is the charge time if you plug in the drone? Does it support fast charging?
Takes about 1.5 hours in my experience if you are charging through the drone itself
Had a couple friends tell me to get a hobby. Then they bought me one of these drone kits for me. Amazon delivering it in the morning. 👍😎
Oh and props on the lesson on props. 😅
So, it looks like you are in Minot, ND? I spent some time there in 2013-2014 and have really good memories. Good people, they treated me well and I had my ever first sub-zero temp experience. Nice place although way out there. It took me three airline flights to go back and forth.
Great people! Not much to do though!
@@51Drones Yes, you may be right on that one. The Air Force young lads at MAFB hated it!
I bet you if it was about 70 degrees out there you probably would have got 27 or 28 minutes. AWESOME test tho
My Mini 2 is coming in a few days, so excited!
Enjoy, get the Flyaway coverage.. lost one 3 weeks ago.. ordered another work the FlyMore Kit
@@krisfairchild2974 how did it fly away? During strong winds?
I'm really weird about my batteries if it's my cell phone my flashlightz my drones my RC cars I've always run the batteries very low & then recharge them to 100% never a "short-cycle" I do not fully drain them (very close tho) on the Drone usually 10% is where I stop & I have had very good luck over the years I've had 18650 batteries literally last me from 6-10 years.. & if you store a battery do not leave it fully charged nor empty, around 50-70% 4 storage is perfect. Sorry just try 2 help cause 🔋's ain't cheap, 4 me their not. Love the videos & God bless
very helpful.. thank you
Great facts! So looking forward to Goggles compatibility!
It's already compatible. Look at my comment I made earlier it explains how to do it. Just get a WiFi dongle and your good to go👍
Hi Russ,
Was just rewatching this as I've just ordered my mini 2 after my mini 1 copied your Air2S. Well looks like your prediction might be coming true with the Mini 3. Mini 3 & Battery only option.
Very well done, as all of yours are. I wish you hadn’t mentioned the ribs though. It’s breakfast time here now, so I have all day to think about those ribs‼️

Yo, let me just throw some mad respect at you for that VERY short and humble subscription plug early on. "If you're new here, hopefully you'll find some value in the channel. If you do, please subscribe." Not like "Hello, my name is Russ and I have a channel about tech and drones. If you're into that kind of thing go ahead and hit that subscribe button and turn the bell on to receive notifications so you don't miss out on anything I upload! I was born in the bayou of Louisiana....."
I just bought my first real drone, the Mini 2 and your video was very helpful. Good work.
Thank you for so much useful information. My drone life will be full if we get Goggle support. I love using my Goggles and hate leaving them at home. Just a bit of my personal info about my drones I now carry my Air2 and now my Mini2 in the same box and with only one remote which mean carrying is so much easier and for me super useful. Thanks again. Happy flying.
Check out my comment earlier it is fully compatible with the goggles with a WiFi dongle.. I've been flying it all day👍
Russ, Can you use the Mavic Mini prop guards on the Mavic Mini 2? Will they fit?
Does anyone know if there is a stronger motor you could swap out on the Mini 2 without doing any modifying to the housing unit on the arms? And would it even be advisable?
Russ did you notice while flying the Mini 2 and shooting video with the gimbal pointing all the way down, the forward speed will not exceed 3 mph?
Yes. Watch my initial review.
@@51Drones cool you had that covered. Looks like it gets cold early in North Dakota. I thought I had it bad in Michigan.

Why can’t people just use the correct replacement parts for their drone? WTF trying to force the wrong parts onto expensive drone cameras. GL.
I would submit that the reason they don't add "follow me" support is because if they did, no one would buy the Mavic Air 2.
Great video Russ. I dont have any dji drones yet but the mini2 looks very appealing
Can you hook up a rode wireless mic to your phone while it is mounted into the remote control for the drone?
With the Mavic mini 2 release, would there maybe be a price drop on the Mavic air 2 or maybe a new Mavic air 3 in the works?
DJI has said several times they will not support goggles for Air 2. The most obvious reason would be VLOS.
Have you had to use refresh at all? How's the last year been?
@@RanchoBurger once on it doesn't come off and it does make it stand out but it's still small and very hard to keep in VLOS...
@@JeffFoliage yeah that's what I figured. Probably get some sort of bright strobe led, hopefully that'll help, though it may not during the day. Plus I'll have to register then, I imagine. Worth it though.
Because they don’t fit inside the prop holes
My magic pro platinum in mid flight flashed a battery error and fell out of the sky. Is this a common accident/problem?
"They are NOT the same!"
Okay.

Is that what you are here for, to tell everybody "don't mess with things"? RUclips is for messing with things.
you might want to weigh the mini 2 with the original mini battery as one guy weighed the mini2 with stock battery and it only came in at 238 so realistically it might not be over the 249 with the mini 1 battery
Yes, it’s 256
Just a question
If you use a mini 2 Controler on the mavic mini will you get a better range ie longer distance
Thank you enjoyed watching

FYI. At 0:27 you say you ill answer the 5 questions that you most often hear.
The first sentence in your post says: "I answer 6 of the most common questions about the Mini 2."

-Keep full cycles uses (100-

but dji mini 1 works props from dji mini 2 ?
As always a great video. But the real question is, is that a Traeger Ranger in the background and what’s cooking?
Yes! Ribs. I love my Ranger!
This might be a stupid question, but does this drone have the "follow me" functions that others do? So it can essentially fly itself?
Nope. It will track you during the Circle quick shots mode though.
Can you move the whole time it’s circling? Like would if follow you while circling if you were on a mountain bike for example?
The one thing that keeps me from buying the Mini 2 is NO active track/follow me. If they add it later I probably will buy it.
It is a bit of a bummer. There is no real reason either. People say it's because of no sensors but same applies with quick shots so what does it matter

Ok Russ,
I've watched this video before. But now I have a question. With the release of the Mini SE which appears to have Mini 2 propellers will the Min SE props fit a Mini 1
BTW, the Mini SE release has been advertised in Australia. The Mini SE Fly More Combo will cost AUD$619
Thanks for all of that great information Russ! I have my new Mini 2 delivered and feel a lot better knowing a lot of my questions have been answered by your hard work. A little concerned for your screw issue and hoping you didn't f'up your motor prop threads. Thanks again!
