Another point for the last one: One reason we're going for herd immunity is because some people, many of them with other preexisting conditions and thus at more risk, literally cannot get vaccinated for a variety of reasons and *they* are the ones anti vaccers are endangering!

I hear you, but at the same time saddened. I'm in QLD Australia, and this morning there was an article about hundreds of drivers and passengers were caught and not wearing seatbelts.... in a single weekend. They're going to ridiculous lengths to not wear them, cutting the belt and plugging in the clip, or plugging in the seatbelt and sitting over the top of the belt so the car's seatbelt warning alarm wouldn't go off. And yeah, I fully expect that the same people going to extreme lengths to not wear a seatbelt are the same who refuse to mask up. At least with a seatbelt they're not potentially directly killing others. Doesn't change the chance of a crash, just the outcome to the unseatbelted individual.
I personally know people that don’t wear seatbelts and don’t wear helmets when driving a motorcycle for the sole reason of "they can’t tell me what to do! I have my rights!" 🙄 My own mother complained when they made it a law that kids had to be buckled up in a car at all times. She argued that for “short trips” she shouldn’t need to buckle us in because it was faster to just toss us in the backseat and go. I still remember being about 4-years-old when we got pulled over by a cop about a block from our house. The cop knelt down at eye level with us and basically told us our mom was wrong and even on short trips we needed a seatbelt. He said most children get hurt on short trips close to home. So if our mom ever starts to drive and we weren’t buckled in, we were to *yell* “MOM STOP!” and get her to help us buckle up (my brother was only 2 or 3). We actually had fun taking him at his word. When she’d back out of the driveway before we could buckle our seatbelts, we would scream as if we were dying. She’d jump and slam on the brakes and sometimes hit her head on the roof (small car, tall woman, lol). She would try and convince us that it was "just a short trip", but we would wail that if we didn’t buckle up, the cop would arrest us. Or maybe arrest her for not helping us. She always looked like she wanted to throttle us, but she’d help my brother with his seatbelt, make sure mine was buckled, and buckle her own. Then we would instantly stop crying.

Interesting story that happened to me: Earlier this summer, I went to a conference for a school thing with students all around the United States. The last day, we had presentations on a topic and someone chose Equity in Education for LGBTQ+ students. A bit of backstory. I am agender and I changed my name this summer and I was allowed to put my new name on my badge for the conference. I told everyone I had they/them pronouns so they could refer to me as such and no one had a problem with it, but they kept misgendering me. So, back to the presentation. The people presenting said, "Anyone part of the LGBTQ+ community, stand up," just so they could get a feel for the room. I thought that there would be other LGBTQ+ people there, I mean I have been so used to being surrounded by them at school. So, like an idiot, I stood up. No one else did. It was so embarrassed, I just outed myself in front of everyone. After the presentation, people kept coming up to me, asking what part of the community I was and apologized for misgendering me. It was pretty nice in the end since everyone was very supportive and I never had the guts to correct them with my pronouns, so it worked out, but I know it sometimes won't, so I am working on it for this school year.

At least the students at schools are seemingly better now than they were when I was in them, I only graduated high school in 2016 and pretty much everyone I shared a class with was openly homophobic or transphobic, said a lot of worrying things. Only myself and one other person in the school were trans and neither of us really figured that out until our third year there because we were scared shitless of telling anyone. I was kind of jealous though since he was already in stealth mode and passing so well as his preferred gender, meanwhile I was waiting around in the cramped, annoying closet with all the emotional mothballs just waiting to be finished with that school. Although drama class and textiles class were a nice escape from all of the toxicity, I felt like I could breathe in those classes, because even if I wasn't entirely understood, people were less judgemental, I mean my textiles teacher was pretty much the first person who ever referred to me by my preferred pronouns and she's awesome for that, I didn't actually tell her about it either, I think she just figured it out because I made so many dresses.

Literally I actually read a scientific article sent to me by a right wing conservative about hormone blockers. What they failed to read was that the entire article presented a hypothetical scenario and no study, experiment, or evidence to prove or disprove. Same article ALSO had several sources to why hormone blockers were initially made, when they were approved for public medical use, and how they have been proven to already affect children (at younger ages than when many trans kids wish to start blockers). The article also went into depth about puberty, its three stages, what happens during each stage, and at what ages they are expected to start. *But because ONE paragraph out of OVER A DOZEN* said "hormone blockers cause androgyny and cognitive issues in this one flock of sheep!!" They used it as valid evidence to deny trans youth blockers. TLDR; I literally know that right wing conservatives do NOT use science and logic because they do not care to read or even attempt to comprehend anything. Bonus: Especially for American right wing conservatives, it is statistically impossible for them to follow logic and science when they are often the "average American" The average reading level of Americans is 7th grade (12-13 years old) and most scientific studies released are at an 11th grade (16-17 years old) reading level. So, interesting story: I was talking to my grandma about someone I talk to on Discord sometimes and they (the person I talk to on Discord) are genderfluid but, I typically refer to them with they/them pronouns unless I’ve seen them say that they want other/no pronouns used and basically, my grandma was like “I keep thinking you’re talking about multiple people, can’t you just call *her* a *she?”* and the pain I felt when I heard that was annoying, I just told her that I’d rather not misgender them and proceeded to just not use pronouns for them. I think it's all about habit, I too find very strange when people refer to a single person with they/them pronouns (especially in my native language). I'm all about the non binary/genderfluid people (in fact I feel like I'm probably NB? Idk I'm still questioning) but changing a way to speak, especially so generic and frequent is hard
@@mtteo99 One thing I've noticed about gender neutral pronouns even in English is that although people are used to using them for singular case (as many people have pointed out via example), they tend to miss the fact that all of those cases are abstract. We're perfectly comfortable with singular they for a hypothetical person, but not with specific individuals. That said, it's certainly wort the effort to try and change your speech for the better. One thing I try to do is refer to strangers with they/them in my head ("Oh, they look cute"/"What the heck are the doing???"). Gotta break the words in like a new pair of shoes

@@exist4046 I'm not the original person, but basically there's been a lot of research and discussion concluding that 1.) the impacts of climate change are going to disproportionally hurt people of color more than white folks. There's a lot of reasons for this, but a lot of them boil down to differences in income. IE: if you're rich you can afford air conditioning/moving to places that aren't going to flood/weather proof your house. If you don't have the money, not so much. 2.) there are a lot of proposals to address climate change that involve undoing some racist shit we did in the mid 1900s. For example, we bulldozed down a lot of black communities in cities in order to make room for highways. There's a lot of proposals on the table (some of which are actually being or have been carried out) to remove or shrink those highways in favor of rebuilding the communities/making more walkable areas (where you don't necessarily have to drive everywhere and by extension burn fossil fuels). I'll caveat, i'm not an expert in the specific "climate justice is racial justice" slogan, but that's how I think of it.
My guess is that it's referring to the perception that the western world is being asked to bear a disproportionately large share of the burden when it comes to solutions for climate change. Not saying it's correct, just that it's a sentiment that exists, and mainly among conservatives.

Dudes, I don't know what's wrong with 'murica, why they hate so much emotions? Emotions are one of the most reliable ways to know when something is wrong. If something feels out of place, probably is. It's a survival mechanism. I'm starting to believe that they hate emotions because feelings are more difficult to suppress or betray than morality, and they want manipulable robots or something, killing machines which don't questioning too much the orders nor the propaganda. I find the way to get people to listen to my point about being scared of the virus while being vaccinated is to harp on the asymptomatic carriers. That said, as a democrat and Christian, I was actually really offended by "God bows down to Trump." That person has to be trolling, or they're not very familiar with literally all of the Bible. The last time people worshiped a tacky golden cow, it really don't go over so well with the big man upstairs.

I hear you, but at the same time saddened. I'm in QLD Australia, and this morning there was an article about hundreds of drivers and passengers were caught and not wearing seatbelts.... in a single weekend. They're going to ridiculous lengths to not wear them, cutting the belt and plugging in the clip, or plugging in the seatbelt and sitting over the top of the belt so the car's seatbelt warning alarm wouldn't go off.
And yeah, I fully expect that the same people going to extreme lengths to not wear a seatbelt are the same who refuse to mask up. At least with a seatbelt they're not potentially directly killing others. Doesn't change the chance of a crash, just the outcome to the unseatbelted individual.
I personally know people that don’t wear seatbelts and don’t wear helmets when driving a motorcycle for the sole reason of "they can’t tell me what to do! I have my rights!" 🙄
My own mother complained when they made it a law that kids had to be buckled up in a car at all times. She argued that for “short trips” she shouldn’t need to buckle us in because it was faster to just toss us in the backseat and go.
I still remember being about 4-years-old when we got pulled over by a cop about a block from our house. The cop knelt down at eye level with us and basically told us our mom was wrong and even on short trips we needed a seatbelt. He said most children get hurt on short trips close to home.
So if our mom ever starts to drive and we weren’t buckled in, we were to *yell* “MOM STOP!” and get her to help us buckle up (my brother was only 2 or 3).
We actually had fun taking him at his word. When she’d back out of the driveway before we could buckle our seatbelts, we would scream as if we were dying. She’d jump and slam on the brakes and sometimes hit her head on the roof (small car, tall woman, lol). She would try and convince us that it was "just a short trip", but we would wail that if we didn’t buckle up, the cop would arrest us. Or maybe arrest her for not helping us.
She always looked like she wanted to throttle us, but she’d help my brother with his seatbelt, make sure mine was buckled, and buckle her own. Then we would instantly stop crying.

Interesting story that happened to me:
Earlier this summer, I went to a conference for a school thing with students all around the United States. The last day, we had presentations on a topic and someone chose Equity in Education for LGBTQ+ students.
A bit of backstory. I am agender and I changed my name this summer and I was allowed to put my new name on my badge for the conference. I told everyone I had they/them pronouns so they could refer to me as such and no one had a problem with it, but they kept misgendering me.
So, back to the presentation. The people presenting said, "Anyone part of the LGBTQ+ community, stand up," just so they could get a feel for the room. I thought that there would be other LGBTQ+ people there, I mean I have been so used to being surrounded by them at school. So, like an idiot, I stood up. No one else did. It was so embarrassed, I just outed myself in front of everyone.
After the presentation, people kept coming up to me, asking what part of the community I was and apologized for misgendering me. It was pretty nice in the end since everyone was very supportive and I never had the guts to correct them with my pronouns, so it worked out, but I know it sometimes won't, so I am working on it for this school year.
Yeah that's... not a good thing to ask people to do in that way.
But on the bright side maybe you gave courage to a scared baby LGBT+ person in the audience to be themselves?

At least the students at schools are seemingly better now than they were when I was in them, I only graduated high school in 2016 and pretty much everyone I shared a class with was openly homophobic or transphobic, said a lot of worrying things.
Only myself and one other person in the school were trans and neither of us really figured that out until our third year there because we were scared shitless of telling anyone. I was kind of jealous though since he was already in stealth mode and passing so well as his preferred gender, meanwhile I was waiting around in the cramped, annoying closet with all the emotional mothballs just waiting to be finished with that school.
Although drama class and textiles class were a nice escape from all of the toxicity, I felt like I could breathe in those classes, because even if I wasn't entirely understood, people were less judgemental, I mean my textiles teacher was pretty much the first person who ever referred to me by my preferred pronouns and she's awesome for that, I didn't actually tell her about it either, I think she just figured it out because I made so many dresses.

Literally I actually read a scientific article sent to me by a right wing conservative about hormone blockers.
What they failed to read was that the entire article presented a hypothetical scenario and no study, experiment, or evidence to prove or disprove.
Same article ALSO had several sources to why hormone blockers were initially made, when they were approved for public medical use, and how they have been proven to already affect children (at younger ages than when many trans kids wish to start blockers).
The article also went into depth about puberty, its three stages, what happens during each stage, and at what ages they are expected to start.
*But because ONE paragraph out of OVER A DOZEN* said "hormone blockers cause androgyny and cognitive issues in this one flock of sheep!!" They used it as valid evidence to deny trans youth blockers.
TLDR; I literally know that right wing conservatives do NOT use science and logic because they do not care to read or even attempt to comprehend anything.
Bonus: Especially for American right wing conservatives, it is statistically impossible for them to follow logic and science when they are often the "average American"
The average reading level of Americans is 7th grade (12-13 years old) and most scientific studies released are at an 11th grade (16-17 years old) reading level. So it is LITERALLY impossible for the MURICAN to understand the complexities of science

I was talking to my grandma about someone I talk to on Discord sometimes and they (the person I talk to on Discord) are genderfluid but, I typically refer to them with they/them pronouns unless I’ve seen them say that they want other/no pronouns used and basically, my grandma was like “I keep thinking you’re talking about multiple people, can’t you just call *her* a *she?”* and the pain I felt when I heard that was annoying, I just told her that I’d rather not misgender them and proceeded to just not use pronouns for them.

Especially in my first language (German) because she/her pronouns are sie/ihre but they/them pronouns are also sie/ihre. I think it's all about habit, I too find very strange when people refer to a single person with they/them pronouns (especially in my native language).

@@mtteo99 One thing I've noticed about gender neutral pronouns even in English is that although people are used to using them for singular case (as many people have pointed out via example), they tend to miss the fact that all of those cases are abstract. We're perfectly comfortable with singular they for a hypothetical person, but not with specific individuals. That said, it's certainly wort the effort to try and change your speech for the better. One thing I try to do is refer to strangers with they/them in my head ("Oh, they look cute"/"What the heck are the doing???"). Gotta break the words in like a new pair of shoes

I doubt whoever made that meme understands the nuances of political ideology behind “liberal vs. republican/conservative”. I’m very far left, but not anything close to a liberal. In fact, the two American political parties aren’t all that different in the grand scheme of things.

Hell yeah rats is the last four letters in democrats! Rats are furry, emotionally reliable and conscious, they're cute and care about each other, and most of all they're incredibly smart! They can do some amazing tricks if trained properly! (I used to keep rats and they're so cute and precious- I want more eventually-) Also they can eat chocolate without getting sick (In moderation of coarse and make sure your rats aren't allergic to it since that is also a concern-)
Edit: Dark chocolate is better for them because of fat content but milk chocolate is usually fine as a treat, like a little salami for the cat, as a treat (Please don't feed your cats salami it's actually very not good for them)

@@exist4046 I'm not the original person, but basically there's been a lot of research and discussion concluding that
1.) the impacts of climate change are going to disproportionally hurt people of color more than white folks. There's a lot of reasons for this, but a lot of them boil down to differences in income. IE: if you're rich you can afford air conditioning/moving to places that aren't going to flood/weather proof your house. If you don't have the money, not so much.
2.) there are a lot of proposals to address climate change that involve undoing some racist shit we did in the mid 1900s. For example, we bulldozed down a lot of black communities in cities in order to make room for highways. There's a lot of proposals on the table (some of which are actually being or have been carried out) to remove or shrink those highways in favor of rebuilding the communities/making more walkable areas (where you don't necessarily have to drive everywhere and by extension burn fossil fuels).
I'll caveat, i'm not an expert in the specific "climate justice is racial justice" slogan, but that's how I think of it.

My guess is that it's referring to the perception that the western world is being asked to bear a disproportionately large share of the burden when it comes to solutions for climate change. Not saying it's correct, just that it's a sentiment that exists, and mainly among conservatives.

So, funny enough, those in denial about being swayed by emotion are more susceptible to being swayed by emotion.

Dudes, I don't know what's wrong with 'murica, why they hate so much emotions? Emotions are one of the most reliable ways to know when something is wrong. If something feels out of place, probably is. It's a survival mechanism. I'm starting to believe that they hate emotions because feelings are more difficult to suppress or betray than morality, and they want manipulable robots or something, killing machines which don't questioning too much the orders nor the propaganda. And yeah, feelings, and people being human, are things that are in the way.

I find the way to get people to listen to my point about being scared of the virus while being vaccinated is to harp on the asymptomatic carriers. Like the scariest thing about covid, as a bartender, was how long you're asymptomatic before you start getting sick and how many people I could talk to, hand money to, even hug in that time, and now it's even more likely that I'd barely notice the virus at all and pass it on to my customers!
