This is a great song even though it is a bit over-processed on the mix. - The live version is fantastic. Muse, like The Warning, is a band that sounds even better live. Spot on review as usual.
You're my favorite reactor because every thing you say is so accurate to the actual song! The most honest true review. Your music knowledge surprises me a lot!
The version from the brit awards 2004 is the ultimate version for me. U can hear the distorted bass sound split with the synth patch more clearly. Matts showmanship with knee slides and dive bombs on the guitar are major highlights.
This is the first time I've heard the studio version as previously it was the live version. Great song but, I'm REALLY impressed by The Warnings cover now. The fact these girls not only tackled this song but aced it is beyond impressive! You'd expect older more seasoned musicians to rock a song they've written but to be 10,12 1nd14 years old and do it justice, c'mon, THAT is something special! And once again, you gave an honest and objective review from the perspective of a professional musician which is why you are one of my favorite reviewers. I like this song for it's intricate bass line, that's what hooked me but you were bang on on all points...much prefer the live version. Or The Warnings.
Absolutely & totally agree with you David about the guitar solo; I think if Matt Bellamy had done any other kind of solo, it wouldn’t have fit as well, as you said. Great review & great song 🤘
Great review again David, as with most Muse songs they get better with each listen, and the distortion you refer too works in the context of the title of the track imho. This track is from my equal favourite album from them, the other being Origins of symmetry which has just been re-released and mastered. Have to agree with everyone else too.. Muse live is the way to go!
Ah…well, I previously commented on your reaction of Muse “I belong to you” that it was my favorite Muse song. But honestly, listening to this one now, I remember that is the wonder of Muse…I just love it all. Can’t call out a favorite
Live hullabaloo /le zenith version maybe. That said, that was the song on showbiz cd that really got me into muse so the studio version isn't pretty good too..
Although I've heard of the Muse, I never really heard any of their songs until I heard the Warning do it. This is a good song and I do know they have a live version which is good also, But I still like the Warning's version better, for me it has a cleaner sound, no distortion.
The album versions of Muse are the prototypes of the songs. They never stop tweaking and developing the songs and their sound. Live is where it all kicks off. Also I'll let you into a secret. There's a square wave over the top of the bass playing the same thing. They get the mix right live though.
Muse, just like The Warning are a much better live prospect,as well as being a 3 piece-go figure,so naturally you've got the physical aspect of watching the performance to go with the music. Unfortunately the video you chose just sounded so compressed, and was not from Muse's official channel - hence the low views. But,regardless, awesome breakdown and was on the edge at one stage of whether you liked this or not.You are correct about the effects heavy comment,as at times Muse sometimes out-clever themselves, and I've been following this band since I first heard them in 1998-99.
Have seen them live a couple of times, once on this album and once for the previous album origin of symmetry. It's a big sound for a 3 piece band. This was pretty progressive for early 2000s.
Dear David, Please Muse is live so much better. Supermassive Black Hole Knights of Cydonia From Live at Rome Olympic Stadion Greatings From The Netherlands 🤘
I believe David has reviewed knights of Cydonia & it was also that version, from the Olympic stadium in Rome…. It unfortunately got blocked though. Check out his channel & look at the Muse reviews & you’ll see what I mean 😢
As a Muse fan this song MUST be heard live ... The quality of the audio is even bad I think you picked the wrong link. I hope you make a video with the ROME stadium live I'd definitely subscribe!
Dave Great reaction as usual / I am wanting to know how the Warning did in comparison/ I think a very nice treat to do in the future for songs that you have not heard before is to play them both side by side. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. PLUS take care of both reactions at the same time.
Do The live version of Hysteria @ Rome Olympic stadium! Muse is one of those bands that actually sound better live! And that is a GREAT thing! I play a few instruments, Drum's is my favorite BUT about 6 months ago I came across a nice BASS and a brand new AMP And got it for a good price and I have to say that the BASS is so fun to learn! I tried this song, and I passed on it LoL I need more practice.. I'll get it one day soon tho .. I did Learn 3 Muse Songs, Sing for Absolution, Feeling good and Citizen Erased!!
Now you have to re-score The Warning cover XDDD I think they need .5 more After listening the original do you think the bassist played over the top only for showmanship or she was trying to emulate the original sound without the equipboard it has?
Fair review again David! 👏 I'm a big muse fan and as everyone suggests - live is even better! I'd like to see your opinions on avenged sevenfold - save me Its a technically amazing song 😊 in my opinion of course.
For a fun novelty piece you could be a judge of bass covers. Misa of Bandmaid asked folks to do covers of Blooming which I don't think you have reacted to. There may be many rising to the challenge but Wave Potter was quick out of the gates. ruclips.net/video/CB9L3eyvypY/видео.html When I did a search of "Blooming bass cover" there weren't many, and the four string five string bass aspect may have deterred some. Could be interesting if you rated the covers from now on and see if your preference matches that of Misa. Just a thought.
Wtf how did this person even FIND this video 1.1k views? The official uploads have nearly 100 million 🤣 I'm legitimately impressed. I agree with you about the tone. The album version is decent, but their live shows sound a lot better.
Hey David, I seem to recall you saying you were going to learn that bass line when you reacted to The Warning’s cover. If you need any help your girl Ale has a tutorial video: ruclips.net/video/Qxs0m7GTBh0/видео.html 😉
I found tablature, but I have a hard time reading tabs. I'm much more comfortable with actual sheet music. Once I can get my hands on actual sheet music I'd love to start working on it.
It sounds like a old cassette tape that is dragging and wore out. Not sure if that is the processing or just a bad audio copy, but it's enough to make me not care for it much and I know it's a good song because of how The Warning do it and it sounds much better. So maybe if I heard their live version or just another copy of it since everyone is saying they sound much better live than in the studio version.
@@miralex67fans of The warning are obsessed with Muse for the wrong reasons haha The warning has never composed a bass line as momentous as hysteria, Imo
Check out the small print or citizen erased! this is just a heavy pop song you gotta check out their more inspired stuff im a huge fan and never really like this song, its over produced as all hell
As a bass player I say, top five bass line of rock history. This song is on the same level of Tom Sawyer regarding bass line.
Only more excruciatingly exhausting to play.
As a consumer of music, it is the best bassline ever conceived.
I definitely think the reason that solo works is because of the bassline. They complement each other so well
The guitar knows it must not get in the way of the groove. This is 100% a groove-based song so it makes sense for the solo to stick to it.
This is what I love about this channel. The honesty, the technical breakdown and absolute fairness. Excellent review and completely agree with David.
This wasn't taken from their official RUclips channel which explains the lack of views. Their music video listed there is 87+ million views.
Still get excited by this song after 18 years!!! This was the song that made me buy a beginner bass set off ebay and learn it 😆.
This is a great song even though it is a bit over-processed on the mix. - The live version is fantastic. Muse, like The Warning, is a band that sounds even better live. Spot on review as usual.

Everytime I hear this I just hear the video game soundtrack to Doom. Epic song.

Exactly, it's the best version. Many recommend the 2007 Wembley one, but it is evidently the only one they know.

My favourite song.
Nice reaction! Butttttt the live versions from Muse are more impressive than the studio versions even though they’re still great! 😄
This MUSE song is more better when they playing LIVE
And you have to check a live version, the vocals don't have that effects and it sounds pretty much better. The bass sounds exactly equal.
Absolutely & totally agree with you David about the guitar solo; I think if Matt Bellamy had done any other kind of solo, it wouldn’t have fit as well, as you said. Great review & great song 🤘

I love this album but I'm not a fan of the mixing. I wish they'd remaster it like they did with Origin of Symmetry.
Christ on a cross- just listen to the live version of whatever muse song you deign to listen to… if u pls 😇
