I agree with most that this is one of the strangest muse songs they have ever written, but since it's so different and strange, it does breed discussion and debate, nice review and breakdown, thanks for the video, have a great day!
I don’t think Resistance was poppy. I actually thought Black Holes & Revelations was waaay more poppy than this record. I think Resistance was Muse’s transition period.
Check out a song by Muse called United States of eurasia (colataral damage) the piano really shines through. The whole song has a Indiana Jones theme tune feel to it, really unique.
Matt on this song: "This song is influenced by silly circus sounds, 'Sgt. Pepper's', 'Pet Sounds' and a general 'anything goes' approach to music. It is about feeling in debt or grateful to someone for being an inspiration for creating music. The middle is from the aria called 'Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix from the French opera 'Samson and Delilah' composed by Camille Saint-Saens. The song features a bass clarinet solo which we wanted to sound like a theme tune from a children's TV program featuring teddy bears in a garden." Matt stated that the lyrics of the song were inspired by the opera by Camille Saint-Saëns "Samson and Delilah": "the idea that there's a woman tempting him to give up his (hair) or something, something biblical".
Going through your reaction videos this week…and I come upon this one. 🖤 This is BY FAR my favorite Muse song. I’ve been a fan of Muse for a long time. Great to see your reaction on this!!
Great reaction to one of my favorite bands ever next to the warning david, it looks like the girls probably took this song for inspiration on their song "Amour" with the french spoken verses.
I remember people hating this song when this album released - now people appreciate it and I’ve even seen it live a couple times. I absolutely adore Muse(first tattoo I ever got was a huge Muse shoulder piece 12 years ago at 16) and it’s interesting to see how they’ve leaned more into their pop-electronic sound since this album. Frankly, I’d love to see an even more largely orchestral album from them
Same!! That’s why I requested this. It’s in my Top 5 for its uniqueness and beauty. I happen to prefer the more “orchestral” side of Muse. I assume most fans prefer the more hard rocking/funk/punk side. That’s why I think Resistance is a masterpiece of an album
@@amassaic when I was younger I preferred the rockier music by muse and wasn't a fan of the resistance as an album, but as I've grown the resistance has become one of my favourite albums.
Musically a great song; lyrically, a bit cheesy for me & you might argue the French part was a little pretentious. Because the music was so well arranged, I would probably have given it a similar score to you David…. Great review 🤘
I think they like to experiment with music and sound, which I like, so every song doesn’t sound the same. I will listen to anything with a piano so no hate here.
You know, that is the one game franchise I have NEVER really played. I did play the online MMO they did, Final Fantasy 14, but I never really got into it. Everyone keeps telling me I should get into Final Fantasy, and I should start with FF7. Seems kinda weird to start a journey on the 7th game though.
@@THEDavidHeretic the reason I ask is because at 12:46 you play what sounds very much like the battle victory fanfare from the game. Vii is my favourite and an amazing game and story. I don't know how it'd be like to play now as a game you've never played but if you can get past the visuals, which I still love it's well worth playing. Thanks for the reply.
I'll react to anything, it's up to the requesters and what they want me to watch. They provide a link with the specific video they want me to use. So if they want me to watch live videos, they'll provide me with a link for a live video.
Was very interesting listening to your take on this song. Even tho I like it because I am a big fan of the band, I would say that in trying to be objective that this is probably in the top 10 or even too 5 worst songs in their discography. But in saying that it does have its qualities in my opinion and I'm glad you noticed them!
No offense but that’s not being objective at all lol. I’m a huge Muse fan. I’ve been one since 99, know every song they ever released, seen them live a dozen times and am responsible for at least 75% of the Muse songs DH reviews. That said, this song is in my Top 5 of all time Muse tracks. A real fan will appreciate the more unique tracks. As a fan of Muse’s more “orchestral” side, This song is one of the most beautiful they’ve ever recorded. For me, Matt’s piano work is what drew me to the band. Sorry…you won’t be getting any Starlight or Plug in Baby reviews anytime soon lol. Apocalypse Please and Sing for Absolution are on deck, however lol
@@amassaic mate what do you mean a "real fan" it's not a competition. I'm sure many fans would agree that this song is one of the lower level tracks on one of the lower level albums. I have genuinely listened to every single muse song, prefer their orchestral side and one of my favourite is in fact sing for absolution. Idk why this comment triggered you so much it's literally just a comment on a reviewers video meant for the reviewer. On top of that your comment towards me is very rude in the way you've worded it. Fans of the same genre can disagree on stuff there's no need to get hostile
@@ZEPCASTS Sorry, but you were willing to claim something as ridiculous as this being 'objectively' one of their worst songs. Lol. Would you like to back up that absurd comment?
It is a little weird, but objectively, it's incredibly well written. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant. The fact that you claim this is one of the top 5 or 10 worst songs in their discography when Simulation Theory exists is hilarious, quite frankly. Dig Down, Thought Contagion, Something Human, Get up and Fight...and then there's Madness ....I could go on. I Belong to You is not even average, it's fantastic. What you said is a massive insult to Matt's genius.
Welp, sorry to say it, but I don't think I'll be commenting much on this channel anymore. Love thee videos, but the fans of these videos are being quite toxic. Probably same type of folk that were giving you grief before. I'm sorry my man. Love the content, but I feel like theirs just a wrong type of crowd in the comments for me
Hi, I just realised that I'm actually subscribed to your channel and I've enjoyed your Muse and Nothing But Thieves reactions, and don't doubt at all that you are a proper Muse fan! I just think it's wrong to claim that a really well-written and beautifully performed song like this is objectively one of their worst songs - David himself is saying that while not to his taste, it is objectively a great piece. It just annoys some of us that songs like this are relegated to the lower ranks of Muse's discography because they are unusual, and perhaps not rocky enough. I love both the raw, rocky side of Muse and the classical side, and of course the songs that combine both. Also, I don't think the other guy who requested this reaction was trying to be particularly rude to you - he was just expressing his annoyance that you asserted that this was objectively one of the worst songs. So although I don't think some of what you said was fair at all, I meant no disrespect to you personally. I will continue to support your channel and enjoy your reactions, and I hope you are not deterred from commenting more on this channel or on Muse reactions by other channels.
To each their own but I’m a huge Muse fan (you can thank me for 75% of DH’s Muse reactions) and this happens to be in my top 5 because it’s so unique and beautiful. Resistance is my fave album of theirs. I just happen to prefer the more “orchestral” side of Muse than the hard rocking side
@@amassaic thank you for requesting this one. I love both the raw and heavy Muse, and the polished, sophisticated, classy, classically influenced Muse. The only Muse I do not like is the Muse that writes songs like Dig Down and Madness. It's about time this masterpiece of a track was recognised.
6:03 "You are my mu.." and after the french section the lyrics continue 10:57 "use". Nice little detail. You are my muse!
People always talk about Bellamy's falsetto, but I'm a bigger fan of his chest voice, especially his lower register and vibrato.
Muse never disappoints, and i completely forgot about this song till u posted this, Matt Bellamy is such a great songwriter
what amazes me is matt's playing the piano while singing
Random choice for a Muse request lol,However alot more than I 1st thought to discuss and review. Loved the Monty Python reference 🤣
