Pissed as a fart but still manages to pot that ridiculous Pink and then the Black with one hand.
Always a naughty boy but incredibly gifted and entertaining
There will NEVER be another like him
Amen,Norman!!! He brought such panache, charisma and artistry with it too..
I love watching Ronnie, but Alex - what can I say? I think without him, Ronnie might never have picked up a cue! Legend. I met him in a pub in Ireland, shook his hand and told him he was the best player ever!
'If you believe it, you can do all sorts.' Words to live by!
It's because of Alex Higgins that Snooker became so popular.
He's the reason, I started watching snooker, ronnie osullivan, is the reason I'm still watching snooker..
I agree 100%
That's good damn right.
My friend that’s the best message I’ve ever read in my life ! It’s like a quote out of the movie 300👍
With Jimmy White in between
Add a bit of Bill Werbeniuk in as well lads
When Alex Higgins play snooker, its like watching sport, art, and theatre in the same moment......he shows much more passion than all the others.....The sport of Snooker isnt the same without this legend. Respect from Norway. Rest in peace.
A legend , the legend , forever a legend
and i consider it as THE NO.1 BEST TRICK SHORT EVER...yes..why it declared as a Trickshot? because Alex as mentioned it ealier before he pot the blue ball that he wanted to pot the tricky pink and get position to pot the black with one hand, did you think that all set up?of cause it's not, this is beyond our imigination..THAT'S WHY i CONSIDERED IT AS THE BEST TRICKSHOT that Alex has did it in the GAME..it is not like other player set up the balls and do a trick..its not the same.
In My eyes Alex was the Best snooker player ever. Often tipsy and had his demons but no one knew the table like he did and he was the best to watch play. Sadly missed. R.I.P Alex.
His record against Davis would suggest otherwise.
@@Romamb And when you consider how many better players than Davis came since the 90's. Alex Higgins was no doubt an incredible talent and he made some crazy shots and breaks back in his prime, because he was willing to take risks no one else would at a time when the game was way more defensive than it is now. Still, Alex Higgins wasn't even the best player of its own golden years. Steve Davis, Jimmy White were both better than him. He never made a professional maximum and his break building statistics are not that impressive in comparison to Davis and White at the time... not to mention someone like Stephen Hendry and later Ronnie O'Sullivan... i mean, the players in the tour today, all top 128 ranked players will probably complety outplay Alex in his prime, so that just shows how much the game has evolved. Alex was never even considered to be the best by the fans of the sport, i mean how could they when you they were wintesing Davis completely dominating the competition... Higgins was one of the most naturally gifted players at the time, but the best? I don't think so.
What a awesome pink&black wow 😮
@@zardoz8023 to say someone now would outplay Alex is nonsensical. The equipment is different the balls are different, the cloths are different. These changes make the game so much easier than in the past (for a pro) so if Alex was playing in this era he'd have those advantages and would still be a top level guy. Comparing eras serves no purpose imo.
@@Romamb Tell that to Stephen Hendry who got completely outplayed since 2005 and had to retire 7 years later... and he was considered the greatest talent of all time, why didn't all these changes in the equipment made it easier for him? Instead he got completely dominated by the rest of top 16, and had to retire with his last ranking win at the age of 36 and last world title at the age of 30... Your argument is nonsensical
That one handed black was one of the best shots I’ve ever seen wow what a player he was,no other like him ,true legend of the sport
@@gwynjames and he predicted it as well which is even more amazing
He was amazing to watch even sitting at home watching on tv. He walked up to the table like he was playing pool in a pub with ten pints on board. He made snooker exciting. RIP 👍
I was always fascinated by his playing. Reckless as hell and sometimes incredibly lucky - but also moments like this of nothing more than sheer brilliance. R.I.P.
Legends of the 80s. I grew up watching these great players. The best thing is you never knew what Alex or Jimmy would do next. We'll never see their likes again 😕
Don’t we miss him snooker fans. Flawed but brilliant
Flawless yet flawed, it really is a fine line between genius and crazy.
And such great entertainment
Pure Genius !!
Most geniuses are fundamentally flawed when away from their field of expertise.
@@Richard-Bullock Chemical addiction is perfectly understandable IMO. Higgins was rarely sober on the job, let's be real. Life's short and weird.
Alex did for snooker what his countryman George Best did for football. They set the world on fire. Both utterly bonkers but charismatic beyond belief and in the name of all that is holy, pure God given talents. RIP you crazy geniuses. Oh and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the memories.
You said exactly what I was thinking. They had talent but also they worked very hard to acquire and maintain their skills. Also I agree very much.....thank you for the memories.
I would include Paul Gascoine as well. All had incredible god given talent but were their own worst enemies. So sad. 🙁
Best was a drunken twat as well.
@@jasonlee3247 calling someone a "twat" because they have problems with alcohol is a bit harsh, don't you think? But for the Grace of God, there go we...
From a time when snooker was great to watch.
The look on JV's face after he one-handed the black in the middle....... Priceless.
We miss you Hurricane!
And pit bottom on it to avoid a potential in off haha
the first one is the most incredible snooker shot I've ever seen. The rails in snooker are so unforgiving and the distance is so long.
mind blowing how he potted that pink and black.
@MrAbletospeak What?, on the sofa?
@@justtowatch111 He's correcting the original use of the word 'rails' by suggesting 'cushions'....I think?!?
@@davidsanderson5918 Yip, I was being silly
He will have put a little bit of spin onto the pink to make it hold the cush. “Its a hard shot” he says!! He was always fantastic to watch; saw him live in exhibition games too.
Ronnie is entertaining but there's nobody like Alexander Higgins. Never will be.
Honestly there wouldn't be The Rocket without The Hurricane
@@kurtpunchesthings2411 Or the Whirlwind.
Alexander Gordon Higgins
@@wanderer1955 this is also true another legend of the game
Genuis Alex Higgins should have won more world championships by far ...... Best player ever seen sadly missed by many
Best snooker player the world has ever seen
RIP to one of the greatest characters in sport.
Lol....
"Sport"....🤣
Forget today’s glamour tv crap shows this is the real deal. Those shots are amazing.Respect from Denmark.
The world was a far better place with this man in it, pure class. Glad I was around to see his antics.
Incredible snooker player invented some of the shots the young guns play today. RIP Alex Higgins A true legend of the game, The Peoples Champion.
Snooker television music boxing we're never going to see any more like the Hurricane Sinatra Elvis Morecambe and Wise Muhammad Ali Des O'connor Cilla etc etc!! We've seen the best now all we've got is what's left.!!!! I miss them all !!
Being addicted to youtube watching them all like I do. 😁
Sammy Davis Jr - Francis Sinatra - Dino Paul Crocetti ( Dean Martin )..
And what is left shit shit shit etc. etc.
The pc lefty brigade have sooked the life out of entertainment and fun🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🤔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
There are still some genres with active living legends, but fast fading out. Nothing much good on the horizon.
I have played snooker for many years.
My arthritic hands are giving up now my older brother got me into the game
and I have enjoyed immensely over the years.
My late brother passed away 3 years ago aged 66,devastated is on word of 100;s I could describe.
I haven’t picked up my lovely cue which he bought me from a snooker and billiards shop in Manchester.
I miss it terribly the nights we spent in our local social club.
He met Alex Higgins and John Virgo in a snooker hall in Salford where Virgo comes from and Alex was living in Manchester at the time.
Them shots are unreal.the black is probably the hardest shot into the middle bag in the game at that angle is a joy to watch a maestro of the game in action
RIP Our kid and rip Alex
Thanks for the recount. All the best buddy.
I hope you are keeping well
Thank you
Never get tired of watching this legendary player.
No one on the planet can pot a pink and black like that with a first take. True genius of the game... Alex Higgins. Legend. Met him once in Blackpool at the Norbreck Castle...
The hurricane! I started watching snooker in the early 80's and this man was the only one to root for. The only one.
Unbelievable Alex Higgins shots, what a talent he was.
RIP Alex Higgins, a legendary snooker god.
that's why Alex is legend!
THE most talented snooker player ever!
God bless Alex Higgins may he rest peace, A true true (LEGEND)
THE BEST PLAYER THAT EVER GRACED SNOOKER.
NEVER TO BE FORGOT.
ALWAYS TO BE REMEMBERED.
(RIP) ALEX HIGGINS.
Second best player Ronnie number one
We all have our vices in life but his love the game and his erratic behaviour I can kind off relate to him. Wish could've met tge man.
THE
How the fuck is he bestbplayer ever? He only won 2 world titles! Didnt win many other tournaments in between! Ronnie is greatest player ever then hendry, davis, white all beter
OF*
we will never have a player like Alex Higgins
The greatest showman !! Miss his presence !!
Absolutely an incredible genius in my opinion nobody has ever come close to this man! Rest in peace Alex your a legend of all time 😔😔👏
He isn't even sober and makes the pink, which is impossible and then goes straight away to sink the black one handed, from that angle. All, in one go!😱👏🙌❤️
The only player ever who could pull of these 2 crazy shots,...... Alex Higgins was the player that got me interested in snooker,....he was an absolute genius when he was in full flow,...and to me he remains the greatest shot maker the game as ever had.......pure talent , and what a character
I always tried to be like Alex when I was playing snooker, and this was in the early 00s. I had this video and would practice those shots for hours. Pure rock and roll snooker, love it!
You can hardly understand Alex, but what a great player he was.
Aye, very strange person but a brilliant snooker player.
Flawed like all people who possess genius.
If you ignore the fact that he was from Northern Ireland (as in the local accent can be difficult to understand, I had a conversation or two with him back in the day, but then I'm a local) - I suspect the reason why he was difficult to understand in this particular clip was because he was "pickled" - as in not sober, I believe you can even hear him having a drink whilst he is off camera putting out his cigarette...
mental illness.
Quite honestly mental illness had led to the greatest humans in human history.
Probably drunk
I feel uncomfortable watching him somehow, really peculiar bloke
Genius!! no one will ever come close to him. 🤩 Always will be people’s Champion.
Visualize it. And If you believe it, you can do all sorts.
Beautiful
I love that he said "all sorts" and NOT "everything you want", which is some of the dumbest bullshit you can say.
The words of a true GENIUS
If you believe it, you can do all sorts. And 20 gin tonics will certainly help a little XD
I love this phrase
I love all sport but without a doubt Alex Higgins is my favourite sportsman of all time a true entertainer and absolute star, RIP Alex
Playing risky shots when relaxing at home with some mates is all very well, but the really shocking thing - and one of the reasons people adored Alex - is that he'd have attempted exactly the same pots in the deciding frame of the World Championship or the Masters.
Win? Lose? Bah! Just play the game! :-)
That pink is surely the best shot ever...the man was a genius...God bless you alex.
Don't be sad that he died, be grateful that he lived, and that he graced us with so much entertaining snooker over the years. He might not have fitted the mould of 'normal', and everything about that is what made him special. I can't think of a single thing I would like to have seen differently about the life of Alex Higgins. He lived the life he wanted to live.
There won't be another Alex Higgins, and the reason is not because such a person won't exist, but because when they do, society won't allow it.
Fabulously put.
Alex, Jimmy and Ronnie. All flawed and all geniuses that made the game worth watching across four decades.
Drunk as a Lord and still does that.
Great stuff...
Alex “simply the best “ !!!!!☘️☘️☘️☘️
These shots are ridiculous, outrageous, genius
And people wonder why I never watch snooker anymore. R. I. P Alex, you were one of our own, up the northern ireland 🇬🇧
I still keep digging my old vhs tapes all the time full of exiting stuff
Awesomness...Living Legend...and Legend after hes gone...but...not forgotten.
the peoples champ
really he was
Geeza was a genius! There’s not enough said about him in the sport. I’d love to see a prime Alex Higgins vs a prime Ronnie O’Sullivan. Man, that’d be fireworks!
I remember reading a story about the boxer Lennox Lewis, who was an excellent pool player, and liked playing high-stakes-games in the USA when he was in his training camps for fights. He used to play 1k dollars per frame, against the local talent, or anyone with money.
So Alex Higgins happened to be in town, and at this time he wasn't doing very well physically. He was deep into alcoholism and very thin, frail, and drunk, so Lennox thought, in that condition, he might be able to take him.
So in 10 frames, I believe Lewis potted about 4 balls, and Alex won all 10 frames!
This is amazing, if it turns out to be true.
+empower93 empower93
Wow, this is amazing, thanks 4 the info.
Cracking story
Pangur Ban. No, it wasn't. Clearly, you didn't read the news story about what happened on the link above.
Cj M and then Higgins spent his winnings on booze and being a twat
Lucky enough to watch him at his best. There will never be another genius like him in the game.
I remember years ago now when i was standing across from The Crucible in Sheffield during the World Snooker Championships and i could see a crowd of people looking up and i wondered what they were looking at so when i also looked up Alex Higgins was standing at an open window with his snooker cue in his hand looking down and interacting with the crowd below who were cheering, Alex then threw his chalk down into the crowd, it made my day and i was walking on air the rest of the day. I have never forgotten this special moment in time.
Probably the most talented player ever to pick up a snooker que, a genius.
The best player ever a pure genius of the game & a exhibitionist
Be there baby !!!!!
Oh my god.. What style.. What a confident!! Legend
Its was his Destiny to be like a blinding light...a lightening strike that hit the table to leave us all asking each other " Did you see that?" whilst the thunder rolled away into the distant night.....We Will Never See His Like Again...Brilliant.
Not just the two best shots by Alex Higgins , the best two shots EVER played by anyone in the history of the game! Bloke was a magician. Rip genius.
That was seriously good. Even JV was blown away.
I saw Alex play in a exhibition when I was a kid with my dad. He was like a rock star when he came out. Cue held aloft in his left hand. Awesome memory cheers dad love ya.
Out of this world talent. Unreal.
Brilliant, what to great snooker shot, by one and only alex Higgins
Probably tipsy and just because he could, a truly phenomenal pink and amazing 1 handed black, there’s nobody like the hurricane.
What can I say he played better with a nice beverage shall we say what a legend
Recently watched "Snooker Gods" on iplayer....I had tears rolling down my cheeks in the third episode, of Alex Higgins at the Crucible in 2010, shortly before he died....Very, very good documentary series....He may be gone, but my God, never forgotten....
Alex was quite simply the greatest natural snooker player ever, It’s a shame he couldn’t control his demons
If he could have controlled his demons, he would have been Steve Davis. Is that what you want? You can’t be both.
paul nah if he could control his demons he would be more like Ronnie.
@@simonmiller8917
Imagine if Ronnie could control his demons.......
Gifted a pure genius born with a cue in his hand. Why so many fell in love with the game of snooker a legend.
This frame is - in my opinion- the most magical frame in history. Alex's tragic life and all the noise surrounding him goes away and is suspended by that magical line at the end "you can do all sorts " ball in the hole... cue tossed across the table... walking out of here, don't need to watch it drop...
perfection
That isn't a "frame" lad, it's a trickshot.
Those two shots are in a different league,Amazing
Hands up! He is the greatest shooter in snooker history. Ronnie is game's best, Alex is people's best. More of a entertainer. The People's Best-known Huricane! Hats off sir
Higgins knew just about every shot you can play .
absolutely insane...hes hammered as well. incredible
The Master of masters 🙌, Alex never be forgotten.
The word genius is so often used but Alex Higgins was definitely a genius
Yes, he could hit a ball with another ball and make it go into a hole 10 feet away. This man is genius! How does he do it? Forget Einstein and Galileo, this guy!
Lol, you are funny
@@bontronblock he was genius in the sense that he could visualise and see angles better than anyone,Im sure there was something in his brain, spatial skill or idk exactly, but snooker is mostly hand eye coordination and visualisation it takes skills. You probably have never played snooker so you dont understand it.But its not as easy as it looks and to make these shots you have to be a genius. No one can pull these off.
Not only mathematicians are geniuses. The brain doesnt have only math ability and logic,it is alot more complex. Some artists are geniuses in their way as well.Genius is when you have some special innate ability in ur brain which makes u good and talented at certain fields which require those skills. And Alex was genius by definition.
The greatest snooker player ever, we are only talking about snooker because of him forget ronnie .
Greatest smoker ever .
If this wasn't filmed then JV would be that guy in the pub telling that ridiculous 'honest to god' story about Higgins again while his mates roll their eyes
JV is ok , very great friends with Alex , Jimmy , Stephen etc. you need a rain check son
Thats how you can pot them if you are unique !! The Hurricane !! One of the best cue-artists we have ever had the pleasure to see. He made shots that only a few are blessed to spot, imagine , or pot . What a amazing snooker-player he was that man....Cheers...
sheer talent. I wish I could get that black with two hands
Dave, shuddup!
That was the easier of the two shots.
Sheer talent? More like an affinity for the game coupled with many thousands of hours of focussed, dedicated practice. "Talent" is such a cop-out IMHO - though it was a well intentioned compliment. 😁
@Dave Byrne hahahaha
@@rebbeshort lol. Go to your local snooker club and try and replicate that black. Most professional players would turn that pot down - it’s a horrible angle
Best shot i have ever seen on the pink ever no one else could do apart from alex god bless mate sleep tight
Incredible shots. Alex was a genius.
Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Rocket Ronnie. The 3 most exciting snooker players to watch. Never a dull moment
agreed!
Alex Higgins is the only reason snooker is as big as it is today . And it was even more popular when he played
Worthy of the gods. Brings tears to the eyes.
This what I miss ,his twitching, his thinking his habits then a solution . fantastic player ,that made watching, ,and game so popular greatly missed.
Probably the most naturally talented snooker player of all time
Absolute genius, put snooker on the map in the 70s
The master at work RIP Alex.
Alex was incredible middle pocket player along with his other snooker talents.
How great was this man,I saw him play a couple of time and always watched him on tv,the game lost a legend when he left us,but you have to think about what he did for snooker truly brilliant and a pleasure to watch.😎😎👍👍
Alex Higgins. what a genius.
Sheer genius or what! Didn’t even even bridge for the black, just the one hand needed. This is when snooker was REALLY entertaining. God bless you Alex.
Eat your heart out Ronnie fans......THIS IS The greatest ever snooker player
Na don’t be daft, Ronnie won’t be eclipsed, EVER, but Alex was undoubtedly raw talent.
@@georgejung5429 on a level playing field, Ronnie wouldn't be able to stand let alone play snooker.
@@fergusdenoon1255 haha that’s one way of looking at it. I guess you’re right 😂
