His cueing technique & positional game broke all the rules & his energy was all over the place - you could get an anxiety attack just watching him twitching and prowling like a Lion. Even playing John in a friendly, he couldn't help being the same as if it was an Embassy final - total focus but also ruthless in his obsession for always wanting to be at the table brake building.

A private game between two rivals, friends, enemies, brothers, dedicated players. It's not about scoring points or winning a trophy, not even 'winning' the game, it's two masters of the art showing their class, proving themselves in ways not often seen on a big stage. It's this that turns snooker / football / tennis etc from a sport into beaty

Alex certainly was a snooker genius - a title that's only ever been applicable to him and Ronnie O'Sullivan. Alex's main problem was his inconsistency - but he would take on pots that no other professional would dare try ...and sink 'em, more often than not. That pink and black (one handed) are two fine examples. Stephen Hendry - great match player that he was - would still be there tryin' to pot those two balls. Ronnie has managed to control his ' madness ' and that's why he's streets ahead of any player in the history of the game. If Alex could have done the same - even for just 5-6 years ..he would have been virtually unbeatable in that period. .

That Pink and Black was like a magician. “If you believe it and can see it you can do it”. A true snooker visionary, ahead of his time. What a player and character. Yes he could have perhaps won more but with Higgins it was an acceptance of the whole package or nothing at all. He played to the beat of his own drum. R.I.P Alex.🙏❤️.x

Alex was an anomaly. By standards, his stroke mechanics were terrible and YET he could do anything he wanted with the cue ball. His timing had to be perfect to play that way and to emmulate his playing style would surely result in bad habits for the mere mortal. He was absolutely genius by definition. It really is a shame that he struggle so much in other aspects of his life.
