@@polinarius666 Very strange. My two cents: It seems to me that she had some sort of argument with her husband that he wasn't prepared to discuss with law enforcement and she decided to leave and ended up in Asheville. I think she must have had some sort of psychotic break due to the fact she didn't inform any of her family she had decided to go there. She was probably sniffed out by a serial killer who recognised her as an easy target.
It reminds me a little of the Blair Adams case, another very strange one.

I left a comment about her disappearance on your latest video and after watching this it upset me even more about what happened to her and left me with even more questions! There's so many speculating crcumstances that just make it so frustrating not to have any answers. I feel strongly that her body is out in the woods. I'm sure that her abusive boyfriend contributed to her mental state and declining behavior, but I think she just took off in the woods. She was already running away from her problems at home - I don't think she brought anyone with her. I agree with the idea that she didn't want to get into anymore trouble. When you are drinking, you don't realize how cold it is plus your body is more susceptible because of the alcohol. She could have easily found a hiding spot, fell asleep and passed away from hypothermia without ever waking up. They say that there were no tracks, but the snow was sparse enough that she could have hopped over the bit at the side of the road and gone off through the woods where the snow hadn't accumulated. I only live 20 minutes away from the accident site and feel like I went through a similar crisis around her age. I could have been her. Praying that she is found.

She was a cadet, she was a nurse. She wasn't stupid. She probably hid in the woods from the cops after the crash. Later she came out and decided to walk to town and probably flagged down a passing car to avoid the cold. The mistake people make is thinking she disappeared in the 7m window before the cop arrived. Most likely the culprit picked her up and killed her hours later. Here, I think is the simplest explanation:
Maura’s Saturn gives up the ghost and cruises to a stop alongside Rt112 , no accident, no snow bank impacted in the grillwork, no bits of Saturn in the snowbank, and a fresh amber bulb screwed into the otherwise toasted left headlight assembly.
Butch stops and exchanges words with Maura, leaves.
Maura gathers her stuff, locks the car, walks toward Butch’s place, thinks better of it and heads back toward her car leaving enough scent to confound canines.
Maura, ducks down Old Peters Rd in order to avoid the police (maybe cruiser #001)
Maura, thinking that a search will ensue, pushes further down Old Peters Rd., perhaps just far enough to keep tabs on the activity on Rt 112.
Maura realizes shes becoming hypothermic, and way past the point of thinking straight, weighs her options and decides to push across lots toward house lights. ( maybe at the end of Mcguire Ln.
Maura takes the path of least resistance and cuts across what looks like an open field and is actually a wet pond/ marsh area.
Anyone from around that area will tell you that, because of the thick mat of rotting vegetation on the bottom, the ice in small ponds cannot be trusted.
Maura hits a soft spot and her story ends.
That’s where I would look, the pond between Old Peters Rd. and the end of Mcguire Ln. Next week iwill be twenty years since Maura disappeared, it’s possible the pond may have filled in or otherwise changed.
I used to drive that road regularly and passing by the scene always prompts some thought on what could have happened, and this scenario, I think, is the least complicated.

Not much info on that but I can relate a story. Ive spent years in the woods and I never go deep without a compass and a map, this particular time I was out hunting ( taking an armed walk in the woods with my dog) when a car went by. I was shocked, I thought I was an easy half mile from any road. Sure enough there was a road, sunken but well traveled, running right across my intended path. Go figure. My point is that things in the woods are easily overlooked. After twenty years there could be several inches of leaf litter covering everything.

The more I think about this, The more I believe:
Atwood lied from the get go, and Maura (maybe at first declined) but knowing she was looking at a DUI, on top of other troubles in Mass.
She did eventually decide to jump into Butch's Bus or Car to hide from authorities.
The tragedy in this is that in many of these rural areas with small Police Dept's it's common for local residents to offer and give assistance to police.
So when Officer C. Smith arrived he mistakingly accepted Atwood's story and in that moment accepted the help, (meaning Atwood's roose of going to search for Maura).
Atwood knows Maura is already hiding in his bus or car.
At the time it would seem innocent enough to Officer Smith, car is spun out, not a tremendous amount of damage, Per Atwood: driver was speaking then walks away.
Let's see if we can locate her.
Atwood shoulda never been allowed to leave that scene until his home, bus, car & property were completely searched.
Atwood either drove Maura out of there right after speaking with Officer Smith, or waited until everyone cleared the scene.
    Occam's Razor

It has always been my theory that she got into a car but that the operator of that vehicle did not harm her. Atwood’s house is for all intents and purposes the last outpost along rte 112 until you hit civilization again in Woodstock, which is bustling in February due to the skiing in the area. It is my belief that a good samaritan dropped her off in Woodstock at one of the restaurants or hotels in the area. What happened after that is anyone’s guess. However, remember that there are skiers visiting that area from NH, MA, ME, VT, CT etc. It’s possible that the person who gave her a ride is still out there with vital information having returned to their state and never learning of her disappearance. Ocams Razor theory- the tracking dogs stopping where they did, in front of the bus drivers house:
She never went beyond that point on foot.
Picked up? Walked to the guys house who stopped to check on her? Other questions follow that. But that is one thing that stands out, what are the odds her scent stops at the house of the bus driver and its totally random? He admitted to stopping to check on her (not saying hes guilty of anything) - but its odd.

Occam's Razor is a good theory, but it's not flawless. It leaves out a TON of possible factors, or unknown factors. It also allows us to insert our own presuppositions in determing an explanation. I think it is okay to use, but you really should not solely rely on it and pretend it's an 'end-all-be-all' to every mystery. It's really dismissive of other possibilities.

I think Maura was incredibly depressed and she could have been the hit and run perpetrator. If bad things happened in both her old and new college the problem was probably her. It sounded like her relationship was ending, she had money problems or was just interested in pushing boundaries by committing credit card fraud, she was also developing a drinking problem just like her sister.
That’s a lot to cope with especially when you’re feeling alone.
She said there was a death in the family most likely because she meant herself. She might have had the idea to commit suicide somewhere pleasant that had good memories for her. She began drinking whilst driving and made a half hearted attempt on her life by crashing the car. When she was discovered by the bus driver she panicked and believed that she might have been breathelised - she would be arrested, her dad would have been called and more shame on herself would ensue. She ran, thinking that this was the best option. She got lost, called her boyfriend crying. (Not sure if this will get mentioned) and perhaps fell/ drowned/ froze as the light disappeared.

Maybe saw her walking and picked her up. She had to think fast! Definitely feel like the guy with the cigarette is a real thing. Why would that woman say that if she didn't see. Dosen't make sense. The idea that she started a new life is very doubtful and she didn't walk out into the woods and die either. Highly unlikely imo

    • @wulfsorenson8859
      @wulfsorenson8859 11 месяцев назад +2

This exactly! She was not abducted in that ‘small window of time’ - she was hiding from the cops in the wood nearby watching. When the cop left she hit the road and eventually hitched a lift. She was most likely picked up long after that cop had left when she’d headed back on the road walking towards town. There was a report of a woman seen walking on the road a while after her crash.

I find it more likely that a drunk and distraught college kid lost her way in the dark, dense woods while she was trying to evade the cops. She was not dressed properly at all. She was not even wearing her gloves. She was extremely stressed and probably sleep-deprived to boot. And what if she had a head injury? She'd been in 2 major car accidents in as many days. That's insane. She may have been disoriented and confused. I think she died from hypothermia, exacerbated by the alcohol in her system, and her body was missed in searches. They did not even do a proper search until 3 days later. If she was spotted 5 miles from the crash site by just after 8 PM, think of how far she could have gotten in the woods before she succumbed. She may have curled up somewhere hidden in an attempt to get warm. They found human bones near Loon Mountain in 2021. I think this was 25 miles from where she crashed. Everyone thought they could be Maura's. But they were tested and it was found they had been there for at least 100 years... maybe as far back as the 18th century. They'd sat there all that time, and no one had found them until 2021! She could easily be out there.

When that happens, I strongly believe that person didn't continue on foot after that. Especially that close. I don't understand a motive though. Which could lean into the police involvement theory but based on her bf's track record and future offenses... He seems like the most likely scenario. I still just don't understand why. Who knows though, it also could have been a completely random passerby that took an easy opportunity to pick up a woman "in need." She was already out of it, drinking, had a lot going on and not thinking clearly. That makes for an easy target. Unfortunately those things do happen all the time.

I remember watching this on the news when it happened & them saying she's missing. I live in Vermont which is isn't too far from New Hampshire. I really think it's a cover up to protect someone. I truly believe someone knows what happened. I'm very intuitive & get these bad feelings about things & this case is one of them that has bothered me for so long. It doesnt make any sense why they couldn't find her. Also its strange how the time line & statements changed. It doesn't add up, some important information is missing with this case it seems.

Yeah I agree with you. This case has bothered me since the first time I watched it on an earlier season of the show disappeared. Since then i keep coming back to it. In making this video I really wanted to do justice to the case and story but at the same time not dive to deep down the rabbit hole. But what you stated had me nodding my head all the way through. Someone, somewhere, knows something and until her body is found or someone finally slips some information, this case will continue to boggle the true crime community.

Maura was killed by a man with the initials RS. She met the man online. Maura left to get away for the week after finding out Bill had cheated on her again. Maura sadly decided to meet this man along the way to her destination. At the time of the crash they were driving from Woodsville where they met up at Bowling Alley to a secondary location. Maura was following behind his red truck with wooden slats in her Saturn. After Mauras car spun out the man in the truck doubled back when he noticed she was no longer behind him and picked her up at the scene. All actual information in the case points to this. The man's initials are RS.

And her stop at the liquor store, driving a car she was having issues with for a long distance when her father was on the way to either help with repairs to her car or to buy her another one, the fact that she may have been having issues with her boyfriend & that she refused help in an area with bad cellphone service when a local man who knows the area offered to help her too?!?! I also wonder what may have lead to her having the issues at west point too? She'a an athlete, athletes normally excel at west point. It's just strange overall that she seems to have just disappeared. This kinda thing just shouldn't happen, especially to a beautiful woman with a loving family like she seemed to have (sorry if any of my statement may have been wrong in any way, i just don't like this kinda thing happening to anyone, especially a young lady with dimples & a wonderful smile).

I like James Renner and I think he makes some excellent content, but his conclusion on Maura just makes him look like an idiot.
She almost certainly froze to death while hiding from the cops to avoid a dui. In the best case scenario while searching the woods they can achieve an 80% clear rate, I would bet that percentage goes down significantly in the thick mountainous Great North Woods. Imo the best possible route to solving this case is continued grid searches.

I think it was the bus driver. Something strange happened to her as she was vulnerable, also had she been drinking in the car on the journey?
To me she seemed a trouble young women. She had no money and was doing dodgy things to survive. She wasnt close to her family. Was bill meeting her, why would he kill her? Was there any serial killers in the area? Any dodgy characters where she had the accident?
Was the accident the icing on the cake and she couldn't cope? Took the alcohol and ran into the forest and dies of the cold? Her body not being found? I think she was set alone? The people who attended her at the accident said a she was alone?
Cases like this are so sad and so heart breaking. She was definitely troubled and just wish she could be found.

I've been interested in this for a number of years and I have a proposal for a theory.
Let's first look at a very simplified timeline of the events. Maura is cited by police for using a stolen credit card to pay for pizza. She has had problems with her prior university. Then one day she emails her school saying she has a death in the family. Her dorm room is found packed up (Rather neatly by all accounts). Then she is found having had a car wreck and decides not to take offered assistance by a passerby (The school bus driver). And within minutes disappears.
At first glance these things can't be reconciled. And they can't if they only person involved in this was Murray herself.
What if she wasn't the only person involved? I posit a slightly different timeline.
Maura becomes involved in less than savory people at university. She get's more and more involved. Those around her decide she isn't able to be trusted - perhaps they think she is loose lipped or she is getting an attack of conscience. Either way they suggest a party at her family cabin. So she buys some wine and starts to drive there. Meanwhile the others write the email and pack her room up. And there are others following her. They plan to make her disappear and so they are following her on her drive, close behind in order to be shown where the cabin is. Unplanned she is in an accident - perhaps being drunk or perhaps just losing control of the vehicle. Either way she knows there is a person behind her (And she thinks they are friends) and so declines help. The person behind her comes along and picks her up as a lift to the cabin where she can contact others. And then she is disappeared - perhaps not the way the others may have wanted to do it but still accomplished.
That timeline explains all of the clues here. It leaves out the weird rag in the tail pipe but I posit that is not a clue as much as just something she did.
