My girlfriend passed away last year in February and brian fallon is the only thing that kept me from wanting to end it all , but everything gets better with time, this song tears me up everytime I hear it
I’m very sorry for your loss. I can say that I, unfortunately, know the feeling. I was 20 when I had a drunk driver take my pregnant gf from me. I’m 40 now… the pain is still there we just kind of learn how to get on by. It’s been 5 years for you and I hope that you’re still around and thriving, my friend.
Lat night I remembered being 17... I met a girl with a taste for the world And whiskey And rites of spring. Spent every night with cassettes that she likes in a car that I borrowed a lot.. I could never get her to believe 😪
I dont mind the new take of this song on his album but this version is so much stronger. The verses are much better lyrically and i just prefer the mood of this. I can take this version a lot more seriously, the one on his solo album almost feels like a parody of a country song rather than a credible song. Fallons my hero but im so annoyed he hasnt at least tried to keep the mood of this song.
Tbf i think red lights is pretty much the same just with added polish. I kinda prefer the new version of smoke but thats cos i wasnt a big fan anyway. But yeah tampering with them seemed strange
***** I am fully aware this song still exists yes, but thank you for reminding me. Appreciate it... I look at albums as a whole, rather than individual songs, I just think the album would have been stronger if this version was on it
+Asmunar Becktenov It has a more honest less over produced feel than the one on his new album. The problem with Brian and the gaslight is they started out real and honest and the past two albums have been way way way over produced by music execs who want to appeal to more people and its watering down the music in my opinion. I just don't get the same connection anymore.
The way the verses and bridge is structured, this song sounds like a precursor to "Halloween" from the Get Hurt deluxe edition. P.S. yes this version is way better than the one he ended up releasing on Painkillers, which is actually one of my least favourite songs on the record.
Thanks for posting. In my opinion it's the best version. The other one is good, but in my subjective stance I love this one way better. Now, I do have some personal reasons, which these lyrics particularly, in their order resonate closely to me, but I also feel that how everything is portrayed and composed just works better. Again, subjective, the other version on Painkillers is great! I just connect with this one more.
It's all subjective in the end. I have the same reasoning but for the album version. I can relate more to the order of the lyrics there but doesn't mean this isn't pretty good as well. We're lucky to have both versions
Hope to see more from Molly and the Zombies or Horrible Crowes since Gaslight are taking a break. Need to get my fix of Brian's music one way or the other!
Butch Walker royally effed the Brian Fallon album, which should have been the next Born in the USA. The songs Fallon wrote for that album are the best he's ever done, that's including 59 sound. The songs written for this album should have made it his best ever but it's not even close to top three (Elsie, Amercian Slang, 59 Sound) and that's on Butch Walker as far as I'm concerned.
+Daniel James glad it's not just me who prefers the zombies versions. This has a sadness that genuinely suits a lonely mile munching drive in my old truck. The album ... Less so
I liked the way the album was recorded for its own sake, but this was poorly done on the record. The line where he says 'I could never get her to believe' on this song on Painkillers is bizarre, it sounds awful. As an album overall though I think it's great, even if some songs might have been improved upon individually.
No info about it . I guess Gaslight is too busy with promoting their new album, so Brian can't find the time to decide what is he gonna do with this material..
Rob Wells They don't plan on recording a record. According to Brian this is just something for fun, and everything they record won't be mastered, but will be released online for free.
Brian Fallon is a national treasure
My girlfriend passed away last year in February and brian fallon is the only thing that kept me from wanting to end it all , but everything gets better with time, this song tears me up everytime I hear it
sorry for your loss mate
Hope you are doing well
Same here
I am glad you are here. Me too. He is a beautiful soul

😪
Everything Brian Fallon touches turn into to gold, so there you go! This is Great :D
Amen
Even covers it's like who covered who, Brian didn't write this?! 😮😂
this is my favorite song of all time at the moment. Infinitely happy that i came across this.
I melt away every time he says Listen to me.
I love this way more than the one on painkillers
Agreed. Same with Red Lights.
Totally agree! Unique sound
agreed!
Agreed
Unbelievable that this could ever be edited. It’s perfect this way.
this may actually be my favourite song ever written.
Gaslight
crowes
dear music industry just try and stop brian....
my hero...
+fartinazoodle Yeah he is awesome isn't he! One of my favorite lyricists. And his voice is so great!
+predator92lol007 Let me rephrase that. My favorite lyricist!
Don't say that shit!
The industry is so F-ed up that there is a better chance of them taking you seriously to try and be politically correct!
Brian Fallon. What a legend. Another great piece of work.
Taking great song and making them better😂. This guy might save rock and roll.
As big of a fan as I am of both Brian and GLA. I can't believe Ive never gave this a listen. I prefer it so much more.
What a song... respect and love to all here
Brian Fallon = Genius
Always my go to when i'm thinking of HER

+Mike Deakin Completely agree. All of the MATZ songs are flawless, should have been re-recorded but left untouched.
Tbf i think red lights is pretty much the same just with added polish. I kinda prefer the new version of smoke but thats cos i wasnt a big fan anyway. But yeah tampering with them seemed strange
+Mike Deakin I agree, never should have changed it
100% agree... the solo album is so over produced, you lose what his songs have always made you feel. least favourite recording by far
***** I am fully aware this song still exists yes, but thank you for reminding me. Appreciate it...
I look at albums as a whole, rather than individual songs, I just think the album would have been stronger if this version was on it
Every band he is with, he slays!
Loved painkillers but this version is just in a different league. I think it hits a lot harder
***** thank you sooooo much for uploading these, brian fallon is my favourite artist! and this is so special. thanks brother
I know the feeling. :) No problem bro ! :)
brian fallon = king.
That's gold Jerry, gold!
brian fallon is a god.
I've listened to every song from upcoming Painkillers but c'mon this one is purely the best, so emotional and powerful
+Asmunar Becktenov It has a more honest less over produced feel than the one on his new album. This right here, is gold.
Thanks for uploading these mate. Would love them to record an album!
Call it a lie or whatever brings you back to life 😍
Still listening in 2024!
Brian is absolutely amazing, I remember his first ep, this man has more talent then most of the bands.
The way the verses and bridge is structured, this song sounds like a precursor to "Halloween" from the Get Hurt deluxe edition. P.S. yes this version is way better than the one he ended up releasing on Painkillers, which is actually one of my least favourite songs on the record.
Love from England
This is a fantastic song!
Back here
I love this song. Amazing
Thanks for uploading! Great track and and more poetic genius that we've come to expect from Brian!
PrepperWorkShop His album?
PrepperWorkShop what the fuck did I write? Well, way to take to the bait so satisfyingly dick head
Thanks for posting.

I also fell in love with this version and it's nice to hear from somebody with the same opinion. Cheers mate !

This is real music.

Album now!

yes, I couldn't agree with you. But I have noticed he does reuse lyrics much like Springsteen
Doesn't Brian get to hear the product before it's released though?
+Daniel James glad it's not just me who prefers the zombies versions. This has a sadness that genuinely suits a lonely mile munching drive in my old truck. The album ... Less so

Maybe the new version is a follow up.....

Do you still have the video / song file for smoke? I miss the original
Why did you change it Brian!!
Michael Marron
We're pretty lucky to have two well recorded versions.
Rarely happens.
good on you mate... pity the new version is shit
I may be hearing things but doesn't the 2016 version pick up right where this one leaves off?
He changed it for the painkillers album, but I much prefer that version
But both are amazing....
I fucking love brian fallon!!!!! Where can u buy this album????
No info about it . I guess Gaslight is too busy with promoting their new album, so Brian can't find the time to decide what is he gonna do with this material..
You can't buy this album. They wanted it to be free online. Just get youtube downloader and get all the songs you can find.
+reakinhavoc they are going to include versions of some of this material in his solo album
this and two other songs are on his solo album, but not nearly as good as the Molly versions
+Daniel Thomas No one else believes me. Thank you for this.
oh yeah
Brian Fallon changed this song for the painkillers album, the whole song is different, he only kept the chorus.
it's better here...
🤘🤘💚
Hey Brian, When is the Molly & The Zombies album out?
Love this track!!
I'm not Brian, but I think they haven't announced the release date yet. :) I can upload four more songs from the upcoming album if you guys like it.
Vuk Djordjevic Please do!
Rob Wells They don't plan on recording a record. According to Brian this is just something for fun, and everything they record won't be mastered, but will be released online for free.
Oh shit different version
Does anyone else get reminded of "Take it Easy" by The Eagles?
Where for aut elvis
It's too country
