I love the honesty. Too many people have actually anxiety and depression and don't say anything because of the way society may think about them. Props to you for being so open.

Most days I'd rather not leave my 'house'. After I walk my dogs early in the morning, I feel safest inside, away from people.

When my C-PTSD was at its ugliest when I visioned myself driving into a brick wall never opening the curtains was not able to read anything itnwas so hard because I couldnt concentrate on what I was reading it really hurt my head, I just stayed locked up in my dark garage that only had electeicity at night during the day I had battery opperated flashlights all over so I could see. Nobody knew I was in there and I felt saft and no windows to see my reflection in a window which scared the hell out of me all the time I couldnt sleep either and not a soul understood me. It was deviatating

I have a brother who is schizophrenic. So I know what you are trying to say because my brother went thru a lot of criticism and had a lot of accusations of drug use before he was diagnosed. And for many years after. He is ill. He is not lazy or stupid. He’s sick. And I get upset when he’s mistreated. It’s sad. It’s hard. I feel bad for my mom because she won’t be able to die in peace. She will die worrying about him. She will die begging me and my other brother to make sure we will care for him. He can’t work. He has very little social skills. He’s never been away from my parents. They watch him like a hawk. He’s never been on the streets wandering or put away in an institution unless he’s been out of control. He’s in his early forties now. He’s calmed down a bit. But he’s a cancer survivor and has been hospitalized for a lot of other health issues. Some people can’t catch a break. Life is hard and at times it’s very unfair. I will never criticize you. It’s not fair that anyone does. And I can’t believe anyone would. If so, they have a serious diagnosis themselves. 😘♥️

Sounds like it genes related to his immunity that could be causing all his ills. It *is* really sad how people stigmatize the mind.

A lot of people with serious mental illnesses such as bipolar depression or schizophrenia self medicate and it has the unfortunate side effect of allowing others to dismiss their symptoms on drug abuse. Also, since drug abuse is also a mental health issue, even dismissing that as a character flaw is pretty creepy. Hope your brother gets good treatment.

In my opinion conditions like chronic depression and anxiety are not a sign of a sick person but the result of human beings being forced to live in a sick world! My guess is that most people feel the same way!! You just keep being you and find a way to cope that is right for you. Thanks for sharing. 🙏

Yes, and sensitive people are prone to this but I'd rather be a sensitive person and alive, awake and aware then being like sleep-walking zombies we see around us all the time either heavily medicated or apathetic and just don't care about this world-- you know what I mean?

Depression can be a chemical imbalance, a reaction to a loss of some kind, but more often it's the result of an injury caused by another person. This can be hard to overcome, but time and prayer too can help these injuries to heal.

Hi I've only just stumbled across your channel. Well done! You are so brave and inspirational! I also suffer with mental illness, depression and anxiety and know exactly how hard it can be when people don't understand it. I am 50 now and feel like I still have to hide it from people. I have confided in a few close friends but on the whole I "pretend" to be "normal" or "put on an act" every day just so other people feel comfortable. Mental illness is still not talked about enough or understood enough because the people who are lucky enough to not suffer will never understand. Sending my best wishes and hope you carry on bringing awareness to these misunderstood illnesses. Love and hugs xxx

So important to share our truth but very hard to do. I appreciate you for helping me and others realize that we are not uniquely impaired, that we have purpose for life ( maybe not all the time, but from time to time) It’s ok not to be cool, calm, collected and happy during our “times”. Life is a constant mix of struggles and strength. You are helping us all by telling your truth. What a blessing!

This really hit my heart because it made me feel less alone. When I'm sad, it's an acute emotional reaction. When depressed it takes me twice as long to get out of bed, it affects my concentration at work, I cry for no reason, eat more or not at all, and even a bright day looks gray for days, sometimes weeks. I subscribed like two videos ago but this one I really appreciated. Thank you for sharing.

He is dead now ( died from a malignant brain tumor) I believe, but for the grace of God, that his diagnosis could have been mine. I am much more compassionate with my patients because of growing up with him. It takes courage to be transparent and open. A huge risk. Thank you for sharing. You are a blessing !

    Katie,
You are right on your description of society's overall view of get over with it about anxiety and depression. I've had depression for thirty years and have tried every med out there also saw a psychologist for awhile, read every self help book. I have PTSD from a rape in my 20s, I'm now 59. Now I'm on ABILIFY for me it's been a wonder drug. It helps me stay positive and get past some of my anxiety and depression. It's great of you being upfront and sharing such emotional private parts of your life. Please do keep sharing and thanks for providing a place to voice my illness. Hope that makes sense. You are very brave to put your life out there like this. I've found sharing helps take some of the weight off my shoulders, I hope it did the same for you! Cheryl

I don't know what others have weighed in on this type of video but I think - know - that it will help MANY people. My vote is keeping doing them on this topic at least some of the time. Pretty much everyone either has a mental illness themselves or knows a close person who does. Speaking out your experience and thoughts on it will help us all to have greater awareness and understanding. Thank you for your vulnerability for as long as you feel that you want to be. You are a beautiful person - inside and out.

I’m the same. And I really love that you shared this. I only just found your channel but I’m glad I did.
People need to understand the difference between sympathy and empathy.
Sympathy is seeing someone stuck in a hole and saying “poor you.”
Empathy is climbing down into the hole with that person, and trying to see it from their perspective. “It feels really dark and lonely down here. Is that what it’s like for you?”
Hope this helps someone in the comments to empathise with someone in their life who might be going through something.

I know this video was a long time ago but I just found your channel. My husband has severe anxiety, emphases on severe. It’s shocking that I’m this day in age people still judge. Not sure if there are follow ups to this video or not but I’m going to look right now. Stay strong and put it all out there if it’s what YOU want to do. Much love to you 💗

I love you Katie!!! I can totally relate to you in so many ways. I had a trauma as well myself, so I understand, and hate when people try to make you feel guilty about yourself. Exercise isn't gonna cure mental illness, but awareness will help it. You're doing a marvelous job, and you're very brave for opening up on your channel about this.

Many people are struggling with personal issues in their lives. I picked up on your personal distress some time ago. Your rapid-fire conversations gave me a hint that your brain is constantly racing. Sort of like not being able to relax and slow down. I feel for you. Part of feeling "normal" lies in immersing yourself in activities that you thoroughly enjoy and that immerse you in peaceful satisfaction. It is an ongoing struggle, but you are not alone. I do hope you are in/have been in therapy. It helps with understanding how and why we feel different, and suggestions to make our lives more satisfying. Wishing you good vibes as you forge ahead. Life is a journey with many twists and turns. Chin up, and find something to smile about each day. You got this.! 😊❤️

Thank you for sharing this. It takes courage. You are definitely not alone. There is safety in the space in the car that you've created. That's ok. I have anxiety disorder that's part hereditary, and situational based on past trauma. Some days are extremely difficult to just get through. Keep talking to us. You aren't alone. I just subbed you yesterday. So glad I did. You are educating the public and helping erase the stigma about mental illness. That's POWER! GO GIRL!

Keep making video's with this subject matter And the other kinds. This is very honest and helpful for so many others with the same illness, also for their friends, family and workmates to understand. Your explanation is excellence. I am 66 y/o and have lived with this myself without doctor diagnois, because I haven't wanted to take meds. Or counselling, though I have self taught myself through living experience and two very close, long term friendships that had the same.

Can you please do more of these videos. I would love for you to have a whole channel dedicated to just these videos. I know how much work that would be for you and I'd hate to pile on more. So if maybe you can just add in a few more of these I'd greatly appreciate it! I relate SO MUCH to this video! I feel the real and rawness from you here and It's AMAZING! However I can feel you holding back/hesitant. It truly feels like you have SO much more to say on this and I truly feel like you can help many MANY others with this topic alone. Thank you for sharing and PLEASE keep adding more!!💜

Katie, thank you so much for being brave enough to share this. So many people do not understand us and think we're faking something or exaggerating, or other people misuse and abuse the words related to various illnesses which in turn minimizes them. You hit the nail on the head with everything, especially the loneliness factor. Thank you so much for this. Hope to see you on the road someday. Xoxo, Kate

I have just started watching your channel. You are doing an incredible thing by talking openly about mental health! I have struggled for a very long time with severe depression and anxiety. Yes, there is a particular name for my diagnosis but I have never shared that with even close family because it is so stigmatizing. All you say is absolutely true. You are a really strong lady!

Wow..you’re so inspirational. Not only do I appreciate you saying these things, but I appreciate you talking about your own issues and not wanting sympathy. When it comes to certain situations I always feel like my anxiety makes me less of a person because I cry when I’m so upset or angry. People make me feel so weak when I have an anxiety attack and I agree, it’s lonely. It’s hard to talk about. Thank you for talking about it. ❤️

I love this video. I have family members who deal with mental illnesses and growing up I really didn't understand. I appreciate people like you being honest and therefore fighting the stigma. Because of people who put the truth out there I've been able to reconcile some relationships that were broken because I wasn't able to understand them when I was young. Your younger viewers are so lucky that if they're in the same situation your videos can help them understand themselves or loved ones.

You are amazing and I will share this with a friend whose daughter is your age and has been dealing with mental illness for years. I’m so proud of you. Love from Bradenton, FL!
